Summoner Spells Back to Top

BEST CHOICES

11.png

Jungle? Smite? Seems legit. :p On a serious note, this spell increase your clear speed and can be upgraded into an ever more powerful spell.
TAKE IT WITH NO QUESTION!

4.png
Leona has no built-in escape so flash is a really good summoner spell for her. Use it to survive more than to get a kill.

OTHER OPTIONS

6.png

Ghost is really effective to chase or to pull out some fast ganks. It is not as reliable as Flash when it comes to escape so be careful. Also note that the shorted cooldown is good to go on a ganking spree.

3.png
Exhaust should be used to deal with heavy damage threat or to win duels due to its huge damage reduction on the target. When it comes to ganking, a slow effect being available on 3706_32.png, so you may prefer another summoner spell.

14.png
A cheesy offensive spell. Its purpose is to get kills. It is really effective when bursting a target, like during ganks. But ignite has no defensive use so it requires snowball.

Masteries Back to Top

MASTERIES

400

If other options are possible, the mastery page I am giving here is the best in my opinion.

KEYSTONE MASTERIES

Currently the best mastery is Courage of the Colossus 32. It gives an insane shield when you apply hard crowd control to an enemy. Note that Shield of Daybreak leonashieldofdaybreak.pngZenith Blade leonazenithblade.png and Solar Flare leonasolarflare.pngall trigger this mastery. This makes this mastery very easy to activate. This shield combined with the resistances given by Eclipse leonasolarbarrier.png results in an incredibly high effective health. When engaging a teamfight, this mastery clear outshines the other masteries.

OTHER KEYSTONE OPTIONS:

  • Thunderlord's Decree 32?cb=20151103094742: This mastery gives more power when ganking due to the bonus damage and the cunning tree damage. Good early but it will get outscaled in mid/late game.
  • Bond of Stone 32?cb=20151103095111: A damage reduction mastery that also helps your team to survive a bit longer. I still prefer Strength of the Ages which is more effective at staying alive.

Overall: 32 >>>>> 32?cb=20151103094742 >> 32?cb=20151103095111

OTHER MASTERIES

[NOTE] This part of the section is not updated yet becasue I am not sure yet about what masteries are the best for the 12 remaining points.

Firstly, because I want to use a Resolve Tree keystone mastery, I end up putting 18 points in the Resolve Tree.

I then prefer to put 12 points in the Cunning tree rather than in the Ferocity tree because most of the Ferocity masteries are made for champions who want to increase their already high damage, which is not what Leona 89.png can use well.

RESOLVE MASTERIES EXPLANATION:

  • RECOVERY 32?cb=20131122000310: 2 HP/5seconds is actually nice to have early game. It is not that much but still.

      OR

  • UNYIELDING 32?cb=20131122000346: Sometimes, this mastery can be better, especially against deep AD/AP teams, when one resistance will be stacked.

  • TOUGH SKIN 32?cb=20131122000244: The best mastery to reduce monster damage dealt to you. Take it!

  • RUNIC ARMOR 32?cb=20150713004703: I prefer this mastery over Veteran's Scar because in the jungle, regen is better than flat health, especially at the beginning.

      OR

  • VETERAN'S SCARS 32?cb=20131122000353: The other option. Less effective early but still possible.

  • INSIGHT 32?cb=20131122000802: Reducing summoner spell cooldown also means that Smite 11.pngwill charge faster, along with a shorter Flash 4.png cooldown. It completely outshines Perseverance in my opinion (at least for junglers).

  • SWIFTNESS 32?cb=20131122000449: Added with additional tenacity or slow reduction, this mastery can make you hard to lock. I often choose it, because being able to deal with crowd control is important.

      OR

  • LEGENDARY GUARDIAN 32?cb=20131122000553: When the ennemy team lacks crowd control or when you think raw defense will be better, then Legendary Guardian is an effective option.

CUNNING MASTERIES EXPLANATION:

  • SAVAGERY 32?cb=20131121235724: It helps clearing the jungle, and compared to the out of combat only movement speed of Wanderer, this mastery is the best choice here.

  • SECRET STASH 32?cb=20131122001006: My favorite cunning mastery at that tier. The reason I like it is because in the early game, most of the sustain will come from potions. Stronger potions, more health.

      OR

  • RUNIC AFFINITY 32?cb=20130406093835: The other option to keep jungle buffs. Since it is only 15%, I personally think it is too short to be worth picking, even if it works on Smite 11.png generated buffs from normal camps.

  • MEDITATION 32?cb=20131122000839: Not the strongest mastery but free mana regen is really good to avoid being oom too often. I also prefer it over Merciless for the same reason I do not like Ferocity Tree masteries: percent damage increase are not good on Leona 89.png.

  • DANGEROUS GAME 32?cb=20151103094738: Any kill, and especially assist, will heal you. This can mean life or death in teamfights or early game skirmishes. It makes it way better than Bandit, which is not going to generate a lot of gold for a jungler.

ABILITIES

LeonaSunlight.png Passive - Sunlight

Complety useless when it comes to farming, this passive gets all its purpose when fighting. During a gank, this can add a lot of burst damage than can result on a kill. When teamfighting, this can be used to deal a lot of hidden AoE damage. It scales quite well with levels.

LeonaShieldOfDaybreak.png Q - Shield of Daybreak

As a main cc tool, this spell should be used as often as possible when fighting. Because it procs on the next basic attack, and it has its own animation which is faster than the classic attack animation so it is possible to use a normal attack, the Q enhanced attack then another basic attack in a short time.

LeonaSolarBarrier.png W - Eclipse

Leona's main spell. When farming this spell gives a lot of armor (and magic resistance) that will vastly reduce the damage taken. It also has the highest base damage of all Leona's spells after the ultimate. This spell should be activated for every jungle camp when farming. When ganking and fighting, this is the main tool to soak damage. When used on the enemy burst, it can make the enemy players waste a lot of resources to deal reduced damage.

LeonaZenithBlade.png E - Zenith Blade

An engage spell that is mostly useful to catch targets. When ganking it can catch enemy players from a long distance but to its range. It also has a good missile speed so it is hard to dodge this spell when it is not used from afar. It also has quite good base damage and can be used to clean the jungle or to push waves.

LeonaSolarFlare.png R - Solar Flare

A strong engage spell. Due to its 1200 units range and its fair cooldown (90->60s), use this as often as possible. It is really easy to pick targets with it and then follow with your other spells or with help from your allies. It is also possible to wait for your enemies to run from you before using your ultimate so they will not be able to dodge it. The burst damage from this spell are also quite high, even higher because it adds a passive stack, so use this spell to get kills.

SKILL ORDER

LeonaSolarFlare.png => LeonaSolarBarrier.png => LeonaZenithBlade.png => LeonaShieldOfDaybreak.png

Max Solar Flareleonasolarflare.png at level 6, 11 and 16 to increase the damage and reduce the cooldown. It is by far the best spell.

Then max Eclipseleonasolarbarrier.png because this is the only spell that see two stats scale with every rank: the damage and the bonus resistances. As I said above, Eclispseleonasolarbarrier.png also has the highest base damage after Solar Flareleonasolarflare.png , so maxing it first is even more effective.

Max leonazenithblade.png second as it gets a shorter cooldown and more base damage than leonashieldofdaybreak.png, and does not have an increase in mana cost (unlike leonashieldofdaybreak.png). A maxed leonazenithblade.png makes you very sticky and hard to escape from.

For the first 3 levels, I prefer to start with Shield of Daybreakleonashieldofdaybreak.png  because it has the lowest cooldown and it resets the auto attacks when used correctly. At level 1, with only one spell, I prefer to use Q twice compared to any other spell once. Then I take every spell and I do like I said above. Just take Shield of Daybreakleonashieldofdaybreak.png and Eclipseleonasolarbarrier.png first because those two spells are the best for early clears.

Starting items

1039_32.png2003_32.png2003_32.png2003_32.png
This start is when you are starting with blue. The reason is that this start gives more health sustain that the Talisman1039.png start but no mana regeneration.

1039.png2003_32.png2003_32.png2003_32.png
The other start, to take when starting red buff. With red buff giving health regen and a way faster clear than blue (so less damage taken), this starts becomes more interesting than the other.

I personally prefer 1041.png over 1039.png because the clear speed it provied is way better.

Vision and Trinkets

2055.png
Buy one early (1st or 2nd back) and put it somewhere to defend your jungle or cover an enemy path, according to macthups. Keep buying new pinks wards when your existing ward has been removed or to cover better locations.

2045.png2303.png
Sightstone (and the upgrades) gives you many wards. Grab one of these when an important vision management is required. I recommend to buy Eye of the Equinox2303.png because it gives the most stats unless you have decided to build active items.

3340.png
The safer option. Use it mostly to cover your jungle against invades or to provide vision for your team by warding ganking routes.
3341.png
In the early gam, the purpose of this trinket is to play agressively by removing vision before ganking lanes. Later it can be used to remove the vision around objectives like buffs, dragon, rift herald or baron.
3364.png
Basically better than the basic trinket since the vision last longer. You can keep the absic trinket if going for vision from close range is dangerous.
3363.png
Another warding option. Use this alteration to provide dynamic vision, to know where the ennemy is at a given moment. Keep the basic trinket instead for objective vision.

Core items

3706.png3711.png3715.png
Rush a jungle item first along with boots.
Stalker's Blade3706.png is perfect for ganking spree against mobilie champions. The burst damage it gives and the slow is helpful against them.
Skirmisher's Sabre3715.png is instead more useful to deal damage, when facing duelists or tankier champions that can't escape but instead tank your damage.
Tracker's Knife3711.png is good to provide some vision without having to invest on a sighstone or rely on trinkets cooldowns. Take it when focusing less on combat stats and more on utility.

1401.png1413.png1409.png
The only enchant I recommand is Cinderhulk. It gives health and damage over time, which are more useful stats than the other enchants.

2032.png
It is possible to buy this potion. It is absolutely not mandatory but if you feel the game will be farm heavy or that you have to recall with so few gold in the early that the only item you can afford is this potion. Or if you want a lot of sustain.

Boots

3111_32.png
This iteam gives some MR, but the best stat in it is tenacity. Think about these boots if the ennemy team has a lot of cc.
3047_32.png
Do this if they have a feed AD champion or a full AD team. Unique passive which gives 12% basic attack damage reduction is just so broken when you can use it.
3117_32.png
If ennemy team have no kiting power and if you are in a ganking spree because these boots still give the highest out of combat mobility. Else i don't like because these boots are "useless" in teamfights.
3009_32.png
The best boots if the ennemy team has a lot of slows. With a higher movement speed than other boots when in combat, unlike 3117_32.png, these boots are good when you do not know which boots to choose.
3158_32.png
Cooldown reduction is great and summoner spells cooldown reduction is even greater. The only problem with these boots it that it is already easy to reach 40% of cooldown reduction, and these boots become less useful since they do not give any other stats.
3006_32.png / 3020_32.png
YOLO (Magic penetration is actually legit when fed as fck :p)

Health items

Try to get at least 1300-1400 bonus health from items in your final build.

3083_32.png
One of my favorite pure health item, it gives a lot: Health to absorb more damage when Eclipse leonasolarbarrier.png is activated, a lot of Health regen to sustain poke, and cooldown reduction. Please remember to NOT buy this item as a first or second item.
3107.png
Supportive item that is actually great. The stats are decent, the cost is low and the active is game changing. Two Redemptions do not stack well, so having one on you and one on your support is not that efficient but if your support is a mage build pure damage, you can grab this item.
3800_32.png
I think that this item is underated. The mix of health and mana sustain is what Leona wants for long fights and the active is nice to catch mobile champions. The cost is also quite low and the build path is excellent. The main issue I have with this is how hard it is to fit this item in a build.
3053.png
Suprinsingly not a bad item. The health it gives is nice and the shield is nicer. 30% of the maximum health means a lot in lategame, especially if it is activated during Eclipse leonasolarbarrier.png. Just the cost is hefty and the build path is terrible.

Armor items

Try to get more than 100 armor if ennemy team has more than one AD champion.

3025_32.png
Good mix of stats along with a cheap price. The spellblade damage and the AoE slow are helpul for duels and teamfights. Just note that the item is not the best armor item in the game and should not be the only armor item against AD teams.
3075_32.png
This item is incredibly strong to duel champions that rely on auto attacks. Because of the stats it gives it is a pure waste against AP champions, so get it only against pure or heavy AD teams.
3143.png
This item is really strong in late game with its passive attack speed reduction on hit and its active (and the 500 hp). Its costs a lot but its effectivness is high. With Leona using her Eclipse before using this item, the active effect will be longer. The crit reduction coupled with 3047.png and leonasolarbarrier.png makes you hard to kill for AD carries.
3110.png
You sacrifice hp for mana and 20% cdr compared to Randuin. Paired with a Warmogs and Cinderhulk this item become really effective and helps to "support" your team. Also note that this item is really cheap for what it gives making it a good buy. It is actually worth buying in early game because of the cooldown reduction and mana.
3056.png
Underrated item. It gives everything: armor, cooldown reduction, health and health regen. The problem is that it gives none of these in an important amount (except health regen) and the active is weak. It can be an option when the stats it gives are needed all at once.
3060.png
Another push oriented item. This one gives better stats than Ohmwrecker for a better price. The actives pressures heavy AP teams quite hard for a small gold cost.
3742.png
Better as a mobility item than a combat item but it stays slot efficient. As I just said, this item is good when mobility is needed so take it against full AD teams along with 3143.png to become unkillable or when you need to roam a lot.

Magic resistance items

Get the amount you need depending of how much real AP champions the ennemy team has. Usually get between 0 (full AD team) to 100+ (3 AP).

3065_32.png
Even without the heal buff, this item is gold efficient so do it if you want magic resistance and cooldown resistance. The health regen also helps a lot against poke teams. It also synergizes well with Warmogs.
3102_32.png
If you think you need to resist to high magic damage burst because of its shield, but note that you do not alwyas need it to survive burst. In longer fights, it is overshadowed by 3065.png that gives cooldown reduction and more health.
3190.png
A support item. It does not give a lot of self stats but is more directly useful to your team mates. If you are the only one that is going to build it (fckin noob support :p), then go for it.
3512.png
I know this item gives as much armor as magic resistance I have already covered many armor items. So the stats it gives are good for sieges. Resistances and health regen help to deal with poke damage and the active helps to push lanes. Just buy this item for sieges and lategame push.

Damage items

Get these when you need damage or when you are fed.

3748.png
Another strong damage item. The AoE damage helps to clear the jungle and push waves while also giving raw damage. The more tanky you are the more damage it gives and this is what you want.
3078_32.png
TONS OF DAMAGE! The mix of insane movement speed, health, mana, and sheen procs (200% of base AD is insane) makes this item a good choice. But this item costs a lot of money and it is not really effective before completed. Still the most efficent way to deal damage with only one dedicated item slot.
3022.png
A fun item to stick to any opponents. It is exensive so I do not recommend it most of the time but it can destroy immobile opponents when purchased.

VS

Aatrox

Easy

Jungle:

Good sustain but he is not really a threat for you unless he tries some level 2-3 shenanigans. But if he  does not get fed he will suffer from a lack of items to stay relevant into mid-late game.

Lane:

He is easy to gank if you flank him correctly because his only escape is predictable. If he gets behind he will be a free kill for all the game. Just take care of his Blood Well (passive) to not get baited into a countergank/dive.

VS

Ahri

Hard

Lane:

With the movement speed of her Orb of Deception (Q) and the three dashes of her Spirit Rush (R) makes her incredibly hard to gank or to catch in teamfights. You should also try to flank her to not get hit by her Charm (E) because this spell can interrupt the dash of Zenith Blade.
The true damage or the Orb are also incredibly annoying to deal with.

VS

Akali

Easy

Jungle:

Not really strong in the early game so you can abuse her team for free. You can also abuse her since she will not be able to catch you.
After level 6 as long as she is not fed she is not a problem.

Lane:

Camp her before level 6 and her game is done, she just can not do anything against you at this. After level 6 she might juke a bit but she remains easy to kill.

Global:

CC her in teamfights and she will die really quickly.

VS

Alistar

Medium

Lane:

His Headbutt (W) can negate all your engage potential if you are the only deadly target. His Pulverize (Q) will also be a problem. He is not a threat but he can counter Leona if he is played right. Just get your laners to bait him into a fight before engaging or flank him.

VS

Amumu

Easy

Jungle:

Amumu has quite a weak early game when it comes to fighting so use that to invade/fight him safely. You also have better ganks so use that to destroy his team. He also has no escapes and only his ultimate to disengage so you can focus him if he is out of position.
Later in the game he might become a problem if he builds AP and in teamfight he can ult your whole team.

VS

Anivia

Medium

Lane:

In the early game she is quite easy to gank as long as you are using good ganking paths and that your teammates have some pressure/follow up. Do not get dive-baited by her Rebirth (passive) tho. If you put her behind her lack of mobility will be a real problem for her.
In lategame or she gets fed by any bit, she is a hard threat since she can kite you and kill you. Her Crystallize (W) is just too good against champions with no free dashes like Leona.

VS

Annie

Easy

Solo lane:

Annie might have a lot of damage and cc but you are tanky enough to soak these damage and she is immobile enough to get caught by you. When ganking her, your main concern is countergank since Annie's Pyromania (passive) is usually activated by her instant spells and last long enough to allow her jungle to catch you or your mates.
Just camp her and she will have a hard time doing anything.

Support:

Even easier than in solo lane but she might have wards now. Just take a good ganking path and that should be fine. Focus her might be a good idea because she is squishy and immobile.

Global:

In teamfights, just take care of Tibbers (R) because this is all Annie is about in teamfight. She can instantly stun you with that so take care.

VS

Ashe

Easy

Lane:

Ashe is immobile and her slows will not prevent you from catching her so just camp her. If she is behind she will die to any assassin from your team and will not be a threat. Use your ultimate for her since she can not dodge it.
Just take care of the Enchanted Crystal Arrow (R) that is a really long stun. If Ashe and her team catches you, you can not escape so do not get caught for nothing.

VS

Aurelion Sol

Easy

Easy to catch and kill.

VS

Azir

Medium

Easy in the early game but once he has items, if the Azir player is good, there is not much you can do to him.

VS

Bard

Easy

VS

Blitzcrank

Easy

As a jungler, he is not a great threat for you. Only a hook on yours buffs can be realluy anoying but after that its like support Blitzcrank: don't get hooked.

A Jungle Darius is strong in 1v1 invades but he has average to bad ganks so ward you jungle so he will not invade you and then go gank lanes. In late game, he will falls off hard as a jungler.

USE THE POWER OF THE SUN!!!

Seriously: she has better clear time and better 1v1 (after lvl 6) but she really needs to feed herself to be strong in late game. Before level 6 you are way stronger than her both for ganking and dueling.

In early level he will loose soooo many health so he will not gank or invade. You can invade him easily before his level 6 and completly destroy him so think about it.

She will not invade but she will beat you in 1v1 in early game but if she don't get feed you will be able to trade her in some cases. Her ganks are predictable and if she used her spider's E to go in, get her on countergank.

VS

Evelynn

Medium

She is good to escape, good to chase and stealthed. As a jungler she will not have the Damage to kill you fast but you will never be able to duel her and you can't ward your jungle to avoid invades. Try to pressure lanes and to countergank.

VS

VS

Fiddlesticks

Medium

A very easy matchup in general but a hard one if he counterganks you because your stuns will be in cd because you used it to engage ganks. If you can take his blue early he will be really behind and you can invade him without problems, just keep your Q for his drain.

VS

Fiora

Hard

She has average/slow clear time but don't have great ganks or invade because she lacks of cc and mobility when she does not use her ultimate. Is she ults you, press W and tank all the damage. You can't invade her because she is super strong in a direct 1v1 fight but you don't have to fear her.

VS

Fizz

With his W DoT and his E escape he can win trades in early mid game without problems or just escape if he has problems. But his farm is a bit slow and if he does not get feed, he will falls off.

But in a 2v2 situation it may be different because he is weak against burst because he needs to sustain with his W. But if he is behind, he will stay behind because he needs both tankiness and damage for lategame.

But in a 1v1 he will win if you are not ahead from him. Also care his ultimate because you can't escape from it without a flash so his counterganks may be hards.

VS

Jax

Medium

In early you are stonger, more cc, more tankiness and kind of same damage. But if he start to get kills or farm, he will be a threat. He will maybe no invade because he lacks burst but he will be really more dangerous than you and his counterganks will be a threat for you.

She is a semi-carry (in the Dota meaning of this) with a good early game. She clears way faster than you, have good gank and is a pain for you in countergank cause of her ultimate. Do a difference in early game before her level when her E is not strong enough and she is still squishy. But after level 6, put wards and go for objectives with team.

VS

Kha'Zix

Medium

If you have armor and he is not feed, his damage will not be high on you but he has mobility and nice clear time so he will maybe try to go in your jungle, take some farm and gank your lanes. And you can't 1v1 or chase him. His main problem is his lack of utility so play safe and he will falls off if not fed.

He will maybe try to start to your red if you start at blue or the opposite or take your buffs later at respawn. Really hard matchup.

GO DRAFT! :D

If you face a jungle Leona, and his account is "ForceObscure", you can surrend @ 20. :P

Except his level 6 ganks and counterganks, Malphite is not a danger for you. He can chase but don't have enough damage to kill you. His 1v1 is better than yours but he has mana issues after giving blue to mid and can't gank as often as you because his ultimate has a longer cooldown.

VS

Malzahar

Easy

VS

Maokai

Medium

Easy matchup: he farm faster and has nice ganks and a live saving ultimate. But in a 1v1 you are stronger and your ganks are more deadly. In late game he is a peeler and you are an intiator so he can counter you in teamfights.

VS

Master Yi

Easy

Like Fiora he may have 1v1 damage but he has no cc. His mobility is higher than Fiora's but he only have his basic attacks to kill you. But his alpha strike is a strong monsters clearing so he can come, steal an run, but only that.

His W, his E, his R  and his sustain makes him strong against tanks. Maybe he will not invade because he does not have built-in tankiness (until level 6) or escapes but you can't prevent him to do ganks or farming.

I put hard because you can't shut him down or 2v2 him after a countergank.

VS

Nautilus

Medium

He is like you but with higher damage and cooldowns. You can't really 1v1 until you have higher spells level due to cooldown reduction but he can't invade you and is squishier. His ganks are stronger with his 4 cc (you have only 3 cc). Depending of team composition, he can be better than you or the opposite.

VS

Nidalee

Medium

VS

Nocturne

Medium

He is a good duelist and farmer but he needs to dps you, not to burst so if you see him coming he will not be a hreat for you but you can't do anything if he ganks or counterganks with his ultimate. In teamfight you have more presence than him.

VS

Nunu

Medium

Nunu is soooooo anoying. A good Nunu will just come in your jungle, consume (Q) your big monster and then run with the help of his blood boil (W). You cant do anything because it outdamage your smite and has a way lower cooldown. Even if you can trade Nunu because he will deal no damage (and after level 6 you don't fear his easy-to-interrupt-for-you ultimate) but you will not be able to kill him or to stop him from stealing.

VS

Olaf

Medium

His cc immunity ultimate is strong against you if he invades you after level 6 but before he is still stronger than you. You strength is by not fighting him but by rolling his allies because your ganks are way better than his and you have initiation when he only have diving potential.

VS

Orianna

Medium

VS

Pantheon

Easy

His early levels and mid game snoballing are his strentghs. But as a jungler he relies on succesful ganks to do this because he is a slow farmer and needs a high amout of gold. You can't 1v1 him in early game but after you get some armor, you will beat him in a 1v1 if he is not feed. Try to predict his R ganks to countergank and make him cry of his "uselessness" in late game.

VS

Poppy

Medium

Medium because she is a slow jungler so she will not invade, has no sustain, bad dueling and can't really countergank. But hard because she has a really strong lategame and you can't do anyhting if she ult on your carry (to make him blow up) or your support (to take no damage). She can just turn a game because of that.

VS

Quinn

Medium

VS

Rammus

Easy

He won't kill you for sure, but he can invade your jungle and powerball away if you don't use your cc correctly. The main problem is: countergank, he can come fast after you tried to gank and put a long taunt on you after you used your W so when you are squishy again.

Later, he is tankier than you so care of trades.

VS

Rek'Sai

Medium

VS

Renekton

Medium

VS

Rengar

Medium

You should not fear him if you are not in bushes. He does not have (if not fed) the damage to kill you and he has no escape without ultimate. As a solo focus jungler he is a bit slow at farming so if you feel confident you can invade him. After level 6 or if he has some kills he can become scary with his chasing power.

VS

Riven

Easy

Riven can farm the jungle. But she will never get there the farm she needs to get items to deal hurting damage. In early game you can't duel her but because she has no item, you should not die to her. If she does not get feed on your lanes, you can invade her and tank all the damage she will try to do. But care she can chase you after you dive or get trapped by multiple ennemies.

VS

Rumble

Medium

VS

Ryze

Hard

VS

Sejuani

Easy
Sejuani has more damage, but WAY less tankiness even with her passive. She is this kind of matchup you can destroy alone in early game (and maybe in mid game too). Don't fear to invade her if you are confident (her permaslow is anoying if her allies are coming on you). She is only a teamfight beast if she has some items, her 1v1 is ok but her sustain is really crap (even more if she is behind) and her ganks average before she hits level 6.

VS

Shaco

Medium

Hard for two reasons:

- He can steal your second buff while you are doing the first one and kill you in early game
- You can't kill him because of his Q that makes him stealth and blink
Try to ward your jungle entrance, Shaco players LOVES to steal buffs at respawn timer and kill the ennemy jungler with a behind 250% damage crit + box fear + E slow, then escape juking three or more people.
But as a teamfighter, you are way better, Shaco is not a teamfighter so if you acn force fights (objectives) ou should win. That is why i finnaly set this matchup to medium.

VS

Shen

Easy

He is slower, way slower than you (no aoe + low dps early), does not have the damage to kill you, he will just have more sustain. So? He won't be able to gank or invade you correctly, just ignore him early. He also needs more items that you to be effective late game.

BUT CARE of one thing: counterganks
His ultimate makes him a strong counterganker and a taunt after you tried a dive can result on a simple and fast death.

VS

Shyvana

Medium

Her clear speed is still really high in season 3. But because her sustain is crap, she will not invade a lot early but she will after. She is not a ganker but a duelist. If you can avoid to fight her directly, do it: ward and watch map. If you stop her jungle control it will be an easy matchup, if you don't you will suffer.

VS

Singed

VS

Sion

Easy

VS

Sivir

Easy

VS

Skarner

Easy

Skarner is that kind of jungler that will farm really fast and really safely before level to get ultimate and then gank a lot when this skill will be up. Usually skarner will not invade,  because if he has clear speed, permaslow with Q  and tankiness, his damage are low to secure a kill or force an oponent to run.

The danger is his ultimate which can make you die fast if he catch you before you use W and pull you on his allies. But in teamfights you can peel from him but zoning with you stuns and if he catchs you, let him focus a tank.

VS

Sona

Easy

VS

Soraka

Medium

I saw some Soraka jungle (and i did soraka jungle). But honestly, it is only fun, not that strong.

Soraka is 100% about farm (and maybe come a lane to heal ally) and press R to save her team. You can't invade her because she farms fast (yeah, soraka jungle farm fast) and she will be full health or near but she won't invade beacuse she is squishy and has no mobility. You just have to ignore her (she wins trades at level 3 or if she is really fed but thats all) until teamfights.

Taric

The Fabulous knight is an other support jungler (ignorable), and he has two hard weakness you can use: he is REALLY mana-hungry, and he has a low mobility. The only problem is that his ganks are strong (point and click stun), he is tanky (tankier than you) and your mates may fail to him. Just ward for them (if needed) and all should be fine in late game (when taric falls off).

VS

Teemo

Medium

VS

Thresh

Medium

VS

Tristana

Medium

VS

Trundle

Hard
Trundle is a strong duelist, maybe the best duelist of the game which is not a carry. But contrary to melee ADC (like Yi) he is not countered by tanks so he can come in your jungle, slow you, chase you, spam Q bite, maybe not kill you but forcing you to back, and steal farm before escaping. His weakness is fights, he is not that great in 3v3 or more situation. Force fights this is the best. He is also weak in mid game because he is not tanky without items. But you will suffer against a good Trundle. He will also ult you to become unkillable because it steal %armor and mr (and you have a lot with W).

VS

Tryndamere

Medium

Tryndamare is like the others melee ADC: get armor or attack speed reduction and you will be able to face him. BUT Tryndamere is harder to handle with his ultimate, his strong escape tool (E), his insane crit damage and he has a strong slow. Before having a lot of money you can't face him without having to run or to die. But as an adc he will need to get items fast and jungle farm is not enough and his ganks are not the best (but strong ganks). Use this weakness.

VS

Twisted Fate

Medium

VS

Twitch

Medium

VS

Udyr

Medium

He is like Trundle. I come, i chase, i tank, i sustain, i steal, i run. Since his buffs Udyr is a real beast (no joke here) in 1v1. You only have one thing to do: ward. You should ward your jungler and not getting counterganked because he is able to chase you and kill you really easily when your W is on cooldown. Like Trundle, you have to force teamfights, where he is worst than 1v1.

Remember: NEVER face him in a 1v1.

She farms faster than you and with a better sustain so don't try to invade her you will loose. However you have better fight presence (more when she has no ultimate) so force ganks, she will have a low countergank power, and fights (care to her "R" engage on your carry). If she invades you and you are ok in health compared to her, you can face her, she does not have the sticking power or the burst needed to kill you before your allies come get her (in some rares cases you can kill her in a 1v1).

But the problem is her lane pressure power, so care to that or she will be really ahead.

VS

Easy

VS

Vladimir

Hard

VS

Volibear

Easy

He will stack health a lot and you will never be able to kill him after that. But if you don't fight him 1v1 (he will maybe not try to), you should be fine. His strength against you is his fling that can be deadly as a countergank/counterengage and his insane execution damage that you will maybe not be ready to endure.

VS

Warwick

Easy

His is a slow farmer with high sustain. The only thing you can fear from him is to stay near when you are low life or his ultimate (but he has low damage after his R) so you should able to ignore him in a lot of cases.

Because jungle Warwick is not common in s3 i never faced a good jungle WW since months so my opinion is maybe not the best.

VS

Wukong

Easy

VS

Xerath

Medium

VS

Xin Zhao

Medium

Xin has a strong sticking power, 1v1 damage and a good jungle sustain so he will maybe try to invade. Just be prepared: if your Eclipse is up when he uses his talon strike you just tanked all his burst damage and then he is squishy without tanky items so use this window. But his ultimate is a nice disengage, he can catch you if you don't look carefully and kill you if you don't have your skills up or are low life.

VS

Yasuo

Easy

VS

Yorick

Easy

VS

Zac

Medium

Zac is like a mix between Amumu and Dr Mundo but all better. His %health damage are insane, hi sustain is insane, his jump is insane, his ultimate is insane (too mayne knockups and base damage). His weakness is burst, if you focus him when you can there is a way to kill him ... in early game, later he will be too beefy. You really need to pressure his lanes and ward carefuly (his jump can avoid a lot of wards).

VS

Zed

Medium

Zed is a carry assassin. Early game you will poop on him because he has high enerygy cost, a weak ultimate (about damage) on tanky champions and is forced to get sustain and not damage to jungle (so he is still squishy). But the more the game goes on, the more (if farmed) he will be a threat. Try to use his early game weakness to shut him down. Care: he farms really really fast.

Jungle Route Back to Top

In this section, I will quickly describe my favorite farm and gank routes.

A few notes before starting:
  • Unlike many common junglers, 89.png is terrible at starting razorbeaks or wolves level 1, so just start at a buff and get help from your botlane.
  • Razorbeaks hit her hard in the early game without 11.png to heal.
  • She rekts scuttle crab with leonashieldofdaybreak.png spam.
179.png
The route is pretty simple, get to level 3 and look for as many ganks as possible. Why level 3? For double buffs.
It does not seem so, but a level 3 89.png with double can dish out very good ganks and can beat almost any champion in a fair duel (same HP, etc.).

Here are my instructions:
  1. Start Blue buff if you are Red side, or Red buff if you are Blue side.
  2. Do the wolves camp and use 11.png if it is necessary. (both map sides)
  3. Go for the other buff camp. 11.png should have another stack, use it if you need to.
  4. Look for ganks in top lane of mid lane. If not then get the nearby scuttle crab then look again for a top or bot lane gank.
  5. Clean the remaining of your jungle (gromp -> razobeaks -> krugs on blue side, invert the order on red side)
  6. Recall
  7. Try to gank bot.

This order is often the most effective for a few reasons:
  • It uses the level 3 powerspike to apply lane pressure. Good damage on ganks and good 1v1/2v2 power.
  • Also, due to the pause in the jungle clean for ganks, red buff + base hp regen should make you healthy again to finish the remaining camps in all safety without having to to use potions.
  • Every lane has been pressure.
  • Easily done is most of games without a lot of though

Cleaning tips

Cleaning the jungle with 89.png is very simple and should not require any special thoughts. But some tips can make a big difference.
  • Abuse the basic attack reset on leonashieldofdaybreak.png. It allows to apply 3 basic attacks in 1 second.
  • Use leonashieldofdaybreak.png to prevent big monster attacks by reading their movements. Combined with the attack reset, it allows to clear big camps (like blue or red buff) quickly and without taking much damage.
  • Pop leonasolarbarrier.png once the big monster is not stunned by leonashieldofdaybreak.png anymore and before it hits you.
  • Do not use rank 1 leonazenithblade.png to clean the jungle, it costs too much mana and has too much cooldown.  The razorbeak camp is an exception as leonasolarbarrier.png + leonazenithblade.png + 1039.png procs can kill the small monsters without any basic attack.
  • Space leonapassive.png procs correclty when doing objectives with your team. On a dragon/baron, this can lead to a few hundreds damage difference.

Ganking tips

Ganking with 89.png is both very easy and very hard. She has a very good lockdown and decent burst, while having no mobility to bypass wards or catch slippery enemies. Here are some tips and recommendations to help on that.
  • Try to keep leonazenithblade.png when you can. If you went behind the laner that you are ganking, use leonashieldofdaybreak.png first and then use leonazenithblade.png once they got out of range by using a dash or their 4.png. (it also applies to leonasolarflare.png)
  • You can catch people behind minions with leonazenithblade.png and leonasolarflare.png, abuse that to manage some surprising catches.
  • leonasolarflare.png has a very low cooldown for an ultimate. After level 6, it is possible to go for this playstyle: gank with leonasolarflare.png, farm as many camps as possible, recall and repeat when the cooldown is available again.
  • Use the previous tip if you want to hard camp a single lane, this is easy and tilts people.
  • Leona is terrible at bypassing wards but the range of leonasolarflare.png allows her to do straight forward lane ganks. Simply walk to the lane from your base and ult your target, it is fast, easy and suprises people who thought they were safe with wards.
  • The damages coming from multiple procs of leonapassive.png are nice but often require too much spacing. Do not bother about them when ganking, it is better to focus on cc lock and burst.
  • When ganking bot, and hestitating which target to choose, focus the target with the least mobility. You don't want them to be able to run from you.

REMINDER: Update jungle route, ganking and Matchups (so many reworks :s)
- 27/06/2014: I wanted to update the guide with Quill Coat/New SotAG but these items are not avaiable yet for guides… FML :D
The basic idea is Get quill coat, then SotAG, then build full tank depending of what you or your team needs. The previous build stay relevant, just the Sheen rush can be skipped now.
- 04/07/2014: Just note that I am going to update my guide after patch 4.11. But later, I need a bit more games ^^
-18/05/2014: Changed a bit the item section to suggest the Madred + Spirit Stone route. Good clear speed with only cheap items.
- 16/04/2014: upgraded the item section to add the Wriggle/Feral route.
- 15/04/2014: Just a note about possible incoming changes for the guide.
I did not try Feral Flame on Leona, and I think I should because this item may be effective due to the insane clear speed and sustain it gives (which is what Leona needs in early game). It can also works as the (only) offensive item of the build instead of Trinity Force or Botrk. The only problem I see is that I may be forced into Mercury's if I want tenacity.
- 14/04/2014: Changed item section for patch 4.5. Solari is really good now and is now my new go-to MR item.
- 06/04/2014: Patch 4.5 is live. It brings a lot of changes on runes and a nerf on Leona (Rito pls…). So I changed the rune section (and the masteries too). Basically, now flat armor seals got even with armor/lvl seals so the first ones are usually not as worth as before. Because now we don't run flat armor runes on Leona and her base armor on her W got nerfed, in early game she takes more damage than before (and she also got her hp/5 reduced, rito pls...). To compensate, now I prefer use a more aggressive mastery page to use more the sustain from Spirit Stone. Also cdr and cdr/level runes are better now and lifesteal quints are not worth at all anymore (unless you plan to build Leona with a lot of AD).
- 31/03/2014: Dat 300k views though. Doge time: very views much thousands. Ok, I should stop :p
- 28/03/2014: The guide is now featured, thats really nice :)
- 18/03/2014: Wow its been a long time since last change. Changed Spirit Visage for banshee's in build because now thats Visage does not give 20% cdr anymore (since 2 patchs btw), Unless I want heal buff, Banshee's is a better defensive item.
- 19/01/2014: Changed a mastery: switch from Butcher to Expose Weakness. This mastery is OP, it is 1% free damage on 99% of champions. Butcher can not compete with it at all.
- 17/01/2014: After Patch 4.1, nothing has changed except one thing: the jungle items are OP, too much jungle sustain, it is possible to stay in jungle forever or to just farm jungle to heal after a gank. Op is OP. So I removed Lifesteal quints from runes. This is not that useful anymore. MS is the best now, AD is ok.
- 24/12/2013: I can now say that the guide is ok for season 4 except for matchup section. Thise section is hard to change because I need to play all the matchups and it takes a lot of time (and can be boring too).
- 01/12/2013: Changed a bit skill section, and last sections (after the about). Matchups will be done later. Also finished updates of Runes/Masteries.
Items changed. Added trinkets and changed some notes. Removed Talisman of Ascension, Wriggle and Lizard because now these are just bad on jungle Leona.
Maybe there is still some mistakes but this is normal x)
- 26/11/2013: Masteries updated for preseason 4. ;)
- 24/11/2013: OH MY GOOOOOOOOOD 100.000 VIEWS. WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

- 04/09/2013: Added Berseker's Greaves and Sorcerer's shoes in item section notes. Also changed masteries set adding ap/lvl and %mpen while removing %damage increase and flat AD. If i did this change it is for "versatility", "hybrid" damage are harder to tank and this changes does not make Leona slower in jungle.
