Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png
Flash: Best summoner spell! Necessary to reposition+escape potential.

7.png
Heal: Great summoner spell for characters that want to play backline and don't need additional damage from ignite.

Masteries Back to Top

Fury: Attack speed necessary to use your skill rotations.

6121.png
Fresh Blood: Slightly more damage from every first auto attack is welcome for a lane dominant champ.

6131.png
Vampirism: Some lifesteal for lane sustain is always nice and it scales well with the lucian build!

6142.png
Double Edged Sword: Decent choice for damage characters, personally i think Battle Trance is better but Xiye prefers always having 3% increased damage.

6151.png
Battering Blows: Armor pen for luci>Magic pen

6162.png
Fervor of Battle: Every hit of your culling gives you a stack! great keystone for ya boy.

6211.png
Recovery: No resistances so some extra regen is the best option.

6223.png
Tough Skin: Better trades for an already lane dominant champ!

6231.png
Runic Armor: You're purchasing a lot of lifesteal in your build, so runic armor can get profit.

Lightslinger(passive): This is the key to your entire kit. Threading your auto attacks in between spells is a skill that needs to be practiced. Once you get that down pact Lucian's potential is unlocked.

lucianq.png
Piercing Light(Q): You can use this skill on creeps to poke enemy laners if you line it up well! If you move right after using your Q you can shorten the animation of your Piercing Light to auto attack or use other skills quicker.

lucianw.png
Ardent Blaze(W): Basically just used for vision in bushes and to give you more Lightslinger procs.

luciane.png
Relentless Pursuit(E):DASH-DASH-DASH. Late game this is how you'll feel. This skill is the reason good Lightslinger usage is important! The more Lightslinger procs you use the more dashes you get and in turn get more Lightslinger procs.

lucianr.png
The Culling(R): Using this to keep at a distance in a duel is what Xiye uses this for. Staying out of range of dangerous laners like Cassiopeia but still doing damage is great!

    armor pen items

Xiye starts with a Doran's Shield and potion, this start allows you to play aggressive in trades since you'll heal from them! You want to purchase Blade of the Ruined King ASAP. Preferably you try to purchase the bilgewater on a single back.

Your core consists of Blade of the Ruined King and Black Cleaver. These two items together give you great on-hit damage and armor shred. The combination will make you harder to kill and give you the ability to duel most champs.

After those two items you select between Phantom Dancer or Rapidfire Cannon. Xiye chose RFC since he needed to keep his distance against the Cassiopeia and Varus or they would engage on him.

Boot options are completely dependant on the enemy team. If they're heavy into CC or magic damage Merc Treads is the obvious choice! Otherwise I would decide between ninja tabis or Berserker's Greaves depending on the enemy. Xiye was worried about the Varus damage so he got tabi's to help mitigate it.

After those items he bought a Infinity Edge which is a great for late game since you already have Black Cleaver for armor shred. Infinity Edge is the perfect choice to get out the most consistent DPS.

Armor pen items should be considered if they're running multiple heavy tanks that you need to fight through.

Shorter trades are the way to go early. If you ever get into a longer trade you're gonna have a bad time with it. Late game you have damage to deal with her as long as you get a QSS or play it perfectly.

Introduction Back to Top

Team WE beat Misfits to secure themselves first place in their group. A big reason for that was great plays by their midlaner Xiye on Lucian. Lucian is a staple of the Chinese meta game with many players spamming it in competitive and solo queue alike. Today we're taking a look at Xiye's build and playstyle from his game against Misfits!

Early Game Back to Top

A few patches ago Lucian E got nerfed early game and it changed how Lucian lanes now. Before you would go all-in fairly regularly since your E would come back quickly through Lightslinger procs. Now you need to play a bit safer in lane. Focus on trying to Q the enemy's while they stand behind their creeps. If you have poked them down enough and you know where their jungler is, go for the all in!

You have solid damage throughout the lane, so if they force upon you don't be scared to trade back. Paying attention to the enemy jungler is a very important aspect of the game. If you know where the enemy jungler is you can focus on your laner and dominating them.

Mid Game Back to Top

Once you have completed your core items in the mid game your potential skyrockets! You have many options as a Lucian. In Xiye's game his team was behind so they grouped up and he played a major role in turning fights.

Positioning in teamfights is one of the most important aspects of Lucian. You have many options including playing backline or diving forward. Either option could be correct depending on the situation! Things to pay attention to is how far ahead you are in comparison to the enemy. In the current meta if you can kill the enemy support you should. They have so much power in protecting that they need to die. Besides that i would focus on outputting the most DPS you can!

Late Game Back to Top

Lucian late game is a monster. Xiye chose to split-push a lot of the time in his game since it forced the enemy Cassiopeia to respond. If you can force their midlaner to lane vs you, you should probably do it. Lucian can win most 1v1's late game if played correctly so with that in mind you can play forward. Make sure you aren't pushing forward if their team isn't on the map.

Vision is one of the most important things in League of Legends. If you know where the enemy is you can make informed decisions at all times. Make sure that once you hit level 9(and especially by the time you hit late game) you have switched to Blue Trinket. This allows you to ward without having to be in normal warding range!

When you do group, at this point in the game you should play front to back. Front to back refers to fighting whoever is in front of a teamfight(their tanks usually), kill them and work towards their backlines(the carries). In this way you are never putting yourself at unnecessary risk.
