Summoner Spells Back to Top

You wanna get Exhaust in the current meta most of the times, overall is one of the best spells right now and has a really short cooldown if you get 3158.png and the Insight mastery. Exhaust is also really good because of the current lethality spam; Lulu is really good at peeling assassins off with her kit only (probably one of the best) but sometimes you gotta Exhaust that 107.png before he leaps to your carries and brutally murders them.
Ignite might be a decent choice if you're looking for a kill lane, if you're playing against 16.png or if they don't have significant burst on the enemy team. However, I personally prefer Exhaust in almost every situation, but it's really up to you and your preferences.

Masteries Back to Top

These masteries are pretty standard honestly... During last patch we got through a huge nerf concerning masteries but that doesn't really bother Lulu and peel-based supports like her. Now you gotta run intelligence instead of precision because in my opinion that mastery is really bad right now. Also you'll get less mana off from meditation but it's still better than Merciless, statistically speaking. You can also try and run Thunderlords if you're up against a tank/melee support; gives you a lot of kill potential in lane but I really like WS since Lulu scales so well in late game with that keystone combined with 3107.png and 3190.png. If you feel REALLY confident you can try Runic Armor too and force some trades while shielding yourself but I still think that Veteran's Scars is better and overall more valuable.

I decided to go really in-depth on her skills since they're so flexible.

Passive: Pix, Faerie Companion

Pix fires a barrage of 3 bolts, dealing 15-117 ( + 0.15 per ability power ) magic damage each, at whoever Lulu attacks. These bolts are homing but can be blocked by other units.

I can't tell you how much i love this passive, it's really good when combined with 3303.png and most of your opponents don't actually expect your damage (especially with precision marks), I honestly think Lulu is one if not the best support when it comes to sneaky autos when going in and out of a bush. Your passive is great for trading against the enemy support in 1v1 especially if their range is shorter than yours, use it as much as you can during laning phase but be careful; when you hit 5-6 you won't be able to help your adc last hit under the turret anymore since you'll be killing casters with one auto followed by pix bolts so try to play around that (you can avoid this situation by simply lulue.png your adc, your passive will help him kill casters in one auto)

Q: Glitterlance

Lulu and Pix each fire a piercing bolt dealing magic damage to the first enemy they pass through, reduced to 70% against enemies thereafter and slowing them by 80%, decaying over 2 seconds

I am SO GLAD this ability got buffed a couple patches ago. Now it's way more reliable and it gives you the opportunity to max E first since your slow is now has the same value even when not maxed. As I said, Q is an autoattack reset so keep that in mind when you're trading with your autos. This spell is really good for both engaging (using e on a minion or on another champion will fire one of the bolts wherever pix is placed) and disengaging while running for your life. Mostly, you get this ability first since it gives you a great level1 spike. Provides a good amount of damage and you can also put a second point to this spell for some extra damage before maxing your shield.

W: Whimsy

ON ALLY CAST: Lulu casts erratic magic upon an ally champion giving them bonus attack speed and 30% ( + 5% per 100 AP )  bonus movement speed for the next few seconds.
ON ENEMY CAST: Lulu turns the target enemy champion into a harmless critter, polymorphing them and reducing their base movement speed by 60 for a short duration.

My personally favourite spell. I still think this is one of the most broken abilities in the whole game and it's really flexible! Speeding someone up and granting them free attack speed combined with your lulue.png bonus damage on hit is really useful but also polymorphing the enemy assassin/fed target, kicking them out of the teamfight. This is the main difference between a normal Lulu and a good Lulu player. The decision making you put onto this ability can change a teamfight by itself. You'll need practice and experience to make the best out of this spell during teamfights but I suggest to always prioritize polymorphing rather than buffing someone, at least when laning.
Unless you're playing with 96.png, really just W-E him and watch him destroy the enemy botlane.

E: Help, Pix!

ON ALLY CAST: Lulu sends Pix to the target ally, shielding them for 6 seconds if they are a champion.
ON ENEMY CAST: Lulu sends Pix to the target enemy dealing magic damage and granting true sight of them for 4 seconds.

Lulu's bread and butter. You'll most likely gonna max this ability first not only because it gives you a good trading power also because of the sinergy with Windspeaker's Blessing AND your ADC's autos will be empowered with your lulupassive.png. E max is also very convenient for poking since it has decent damage, it's point-and-click and it gives you a more accurate luluq.png right after with your E-AA-Q-AA combo. Keep in mind that during trades 2v2 you'll most likely prioritize shielding instead of doing damage unless you're about to kill someone since the shield strenght is much stronger than the damage it does when maxed.

R: Wild Growth

Lulu enlarges the target allied champion, knocking up units around them for 0.75 seconds, increasing their bonus health and causing them to slow nearby units for 7 seconds (can be self-targeted)

Lulu's ult can be used in many ways: you can use it on your tank when he's engaging in order to knock-up and slow the enemy backline while providing bonus health to your teammate, however sometimes it's better to be conservative and use it on your squishy carries when they're getting flanked/assassinated by a fed target (like a leaping 121.png that will be interrupted if you time your ult correctly). At its first rank this ability isn't much effective in terms of bonus health since it gets outclassed by reapthewhirlwind.png or sorakar.png and it doesn't work with Windspeaker's Blessing. However you'll be getting a lot of value during teamfights if you choose the right target at the right moment (while also making some clutch saves *wink*), it doesn't take much to get used to this ability and making the best out of it just comes out of practice.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    When playing a passive/losing lane
    Good in almost every situation

Core Items

    Good for every windspeaker's support
Kog'Maw lane or AA based team
when you have to use your exhaust more frequently
useful in order to roam and put vision

Situational Items

    Against heavy CC team
    Late game oriented

Start with:

Unfortunately, since the supports' build paths are almost the same there isn't much choice you got; First off, you wanna start with 3303.png because, being a really long-ranged champion, getting plenty of gold from this item is quite easy and overall getting some extra AP is really nice on Lulu. Although, if you're playing a losing/aggressive lane (63.png 143.png) you might wanna think about getting 3301.png first, this item will help you sustaining damage without losing golds (If you get spellthief without trading anyone it won't give you many golds so think carefully which one is the most valuable decision) P.S. Keep in mind that 2302.png is 300G cheaper than 2301.png so if you think you're gonna have to rush 3107.png or 3190.png early on feel free to start with Coin.

Core Items:

The difference between 3117.png and 3158.png is pretty simple. Personally I prefer having 3158.png because of the extra cooldown reduction on my summoner spells and 3.png being REALLY good. However, if your laning phase ended early, your job as a support is to roam and secure vision as much as you can (while also providing sporadic ganks) and 3117.png are great for this purpose. Both cost 900G so feel free to swap between them frequently so you can actually feel the difference.
There isn't much to discuss about these two items. 3107.png and 3190.png are really good items and almost every support rushes them. Locket is really good if the enemy team has a fed target that likes to burst or in a game where teamfights are really fast paced ( like 134.png or  61.png, using 3190.png onto their ultimates will be super valuable and sometimes can win you a teamfight by itself ), otherwise just start off with Redemption and then start building Locket. As I said though, if you're laning with 96.png forget what's written above and just rush 3504.png, trust me. Kog'Maw scales incredibly well with your buffs and this item will give him and incredible boost while trading/teamfighting while giving you decent stats (Highly reccomended if your team has a lot of AA based champions as well).

Final Build:

Your full build should be 2301.png 3107.png 3190.png 3158.png 3504.png 3222.png although I wouldn't get 3222.png every game. This item got changed some patches ago and I honestly don't like it very much. The only purpose it has now is a shorter cd cleanse and in this meta where 3814.png is over-used I don't feel like Mikael's Crucible is as useful as it should be. Sometimes, this item might save you the game by cleansing an enchantedcrystalarrow.png that picked one of your carries out of position but it's really unreliable to me if they don't have strong crowd controls.
An alternative build pathing that I'm currently testing is 3098.png 2049.png into 3107.png or 3190.png and then getting 2045.png and 3092.png. This build is much better if you wanna stall the game until late, the passive you get from 2045.png is really useful considering you'll be using a lot of actives but it slows down your build path a lot so I wouldn't ALWAYS recommend it.

VS

Alistar

Easy

Really easy lane for Lulu, poke him whenever he's in range and if you feel comfortable consider getting Thunderlord's Keystone since it gives you a lot of kill pressure during laning phase. When he engages with his headbutt.png pulverize.png combo be sure to luluw.png him mid-w and trade accordingly. If you weren't fast enough though just lulue.png your ADC (if he's the main target) and luluw.png the enemy carry (after Alistar uses his combo he won't do much more since the cooldown is extremely long) while you focus the same target as your ADC.

VS

Bard

Medium

Early on his auto and bardq.png will outdamage you no matter what so try to avoid 1v1 against him expecially if you're near something that can his Q stun you. Try to bait his Q out and then look for a trade, sometimes is better to luluw.png him since he does more damage than most ADCs early on but only if he didn't use his AA-bardq.png-AA combo yet. You'll slowly outscale him since your lulue.png will absorb both his Q and autos when maxed so try to be patient and only go for safe trades since he has sustain from his bardw.png while you don't.

VS

Brand

Hard

This is one of those lanes where you just gotta brace yourself, buy 3301.png and try to shield as much damage as you can (keep an eye of your mana though). Sometimes your E-R won't be enough to absord his full combo and during lane trading is really hard since he outranges you. He's very squishy though, if he's close enough you can look for a Polymorph and get some good poke (it's really important since he has no sorts of sustain), otherwise it's better to just luluw.png lulue.png your marksman. He's really immobile though and suffers from ganks so try to play around that and rush 3190.png to almost nullify his burst.

VS

Janna

Easy

If you have confidence on your champion this lane should be pretty easy. Try to bait her eyeofthestorm.png and when the shield expires just walk up and poke whoever is in range (Janna's range is really short so look for 1v1s) . Janna's lane is really weak, especially against a poke support like Lulu and she won't do much aside from shielding herself or her ADC. On early levels your lulue.png should be stronger than hers so keep that in mind while 2v2ing. After 6 be conservative with your luluw.png because you'll probably be looking to poly her during reapthewhirlwind.png to prevent her from healing, if you're fast enough you should win almost every trade/all-in.

VS

Karma

Medium

This one is more of a skill matchup. Early on her karmamantra.png karmaq.png will out damage even your lulue.png-AA-luluq.png combo, that's why you should look to shield yourself or your AD when you hear that "Sa ele sa tiribi". Her Q has a lot of range so try to pick 1v1s when it's in cooldown. In this lane bushes control is very important so try to keep those warded, you will prevent a lot of harass if you see how she moves. Your level6 powerspike is much stronger than hers but this really depends on who you're laning with

VS

Leona

Easy

Same as the  12.png matchup. She has a strong combo but if you deny it with your luluw.png it has a super long cooldown early on so capitalize on that and poke her as much as you can. After 6 keep an eye on her leonasolarflare.png engage and if it stuns your adc try to lulur.png him while Leona is leonazenithblade.pnging in order to interrupt her and deny her leonashieldofdaybreak.png too. If you need more tips just read the Alistar matchup!

VS

Malzahar

Easy

I wasn't sure whether including this matchup or not since I'm not seeing many Malz supports after the nerf (Lulu became really popular because of this pick). She hard counters malzahar since you can kill his malzaharw.png with one auto (even your ADC can do that if you lulue.png him) and you have so many ways to pop his passive and interrupt his malzaharr.png. You can also look for 1v1 trades though it's better to just stick by your ADCs and abuse of your stronger 2v2 almost everytime.

VS

Miss Fortune

Medium

This one is easy but a little tricky, you probably won't use your Polymorph as often since MF outranges you a lot and you really don't wanna look for 1v1s for the same reason. What you can do tho is shield her missfortunescattershot.png which is basically her only source of poke and trading while it's in cooldown. Even if you can easily interrupt her missfortunebullettime.png you'll most likely won't be close enough so it's just better to speed whoever's tanking or lulur.png the target that's closer to her to get a knockup.

VS

Morgana

Medium

There isn't much to say about this matchup, try to respect her darkbindingmissile.png and use your lulue.png to absord its damage. If she 4.png soulshackles.png it's better to luluw.png her rather than speeding someone since you'll most likely won't get out (unless she has blackshield.png). Like the 43.png matchup, just walk up to her when her Q is in CD and you should be fine (also because her darkbindingmissile.png has a really long CD early on)

VS

Nami

Hard

It's really hard to 1v1 or even 2v2 a Nami since she has good damage while providing the sustain that you don't have. You have to be really careful while trading or poking because of her namiw.png so choose carefully when going in. The best you can do is try to bait her namiq.png or namiw.png and then go for some poke. Another way of dealing with her is gaining bush control and throw some sneaky and fast luluq.png-AA at her, making her waste her namiw.png (costs a lot of mana, especially when maxed)

VS

Sona

Medium

Almost the same as 267.png but easier. Sona runs out of mana really fast, especially if you make her use sonaw.png often. Keep an eye on her passive because her sonaq.png-Empowered Auto will deal a lot of damage, so try to lulue.png whoever she's targeting to absord most of it. Keep in mind that she wins short-trades but you surclass her during long ones.
P.S. For this matchup I recommend you to read my 267.png notes

VS

Soraka

Medium
I'd put this one on easy but Soraka can really punish you if you missplay
Looking for a trade on her is always a good decision, especially if she missed her sorakaq.png earlier. Soraka, like 40.png is really harmless during laning phase but she will outscale you later on that's why it's really important to put her behind as much as you can. Don't disrespect her too much when trading her because if you go too far you'll probably end up into a 1v2 and will cost you a good amount of health or a summoner spell.

VS

Tahm Kench

Easy

Probably one of the easiest matchups, just get Thunderlord and poke him as much as you possibly can during lane, you wanna bully him a lot and try to shove the lane under his turret in order to get some really good damage since he doesn't have an istant way of engaging on you. Be careful when he's not in vision though since he can easily set ganks with his tahmkenchnewr.png.

VS

Thresh

Hard

If you're laning against a good Thresh expect to be pressured a lot. Trading him is a good idea only if you're sure his threshq.png is in cooldown and he doesn't have threshrpenta.png. If he's a good Thresh player respect him as much as you can but don't be too scared to go for all-ins since Lulu's polymorph is such a strong spell (and you can't miss it hehehehe). Try to keep track of the enemy jungler because he can set easy ganks with his threshw.png combined with 4.png

VS

Vel'Koz

Hard

Read the 63.png matchup. It's almost the same but harder (you usually don't wanna pick into 161.png) Try to play safe, respect his damage and look for flanks with your jungler since he's really squishy and immobile. If you have 429.png or 22.png as your ADC trying an all-in at 6 might also be a good idea if you CClock him correctly.

VS

Zyra

Hard

Like 63.png and 161.png but a little easier, Zyra's range is much lower that those two but try to respect her burst and focus on destroying her zyraw.png as soon as she makes them, will deny almost half of her damage and will give you the chance to look for a sustained 2v2 that you'll most likely win. When she hits 6 try to respect her zyrar.png but if you stay far enough even if she casts it you should be on one of the edges and if she didnt use her zyrae.png first you should be able to evade easily and avoid its damage as well.

About this guide Back to Top

Hello, I'm Lilyane (Lily for short) and I play support on EUW server. My current rank is Diamond 2 and I'm a Lulu enthusiast as you can see:
  Cattura.PNG

She's been one of my favourite champions from release and I always played her sporadically from season 2 to season 7. I  started playing her toplane then switched to midlane when she was the FOTM and kept playing her even after the nerfs, then spammed her during patch 7.2 'til now. I don't see myself as the best Lulu player but I'm really experienced and I wanted to make a guide in order to help whoever wanted to pick her up and learn this champion properly. There are some tricks I didn't mention in this guide because they are not as effective as they used to be (E on a minion, then Q for super long range poke is now pretty useles since you won't be maxing your Q anymore) but I still hope you find my guide useful and learn something new even if you played Lulu before. I put a lot of effort in this guide so I really hope you appreciate it and give me your feedbacks (both good and bad ones). Feel free to add me on League if something isn't clear enough. GLHF!
