  1. 3.png - You can pick it when laning against certain champions (e.g. 266_64.png or 23_64.pngwho rely on AA's.
  2. 21.png - Not really needed. Would recommend it against bursty champions like 17_64.png or 60_64.png.
  3. 6.png - Not a bad choice at all. Still worse than 4.png.

ALTERNATIVE CHOICES

Ferocity Tree:
  1. You can pick "Feast" instead of "Double Edged Sword" if you know you will be facing an enemy laner with strong poke/harrass/kite. 20 health every 20 seconds may not look like a beig deal, but trust me, it will benefit you in the long run.
  2. "Bounty Hunter" is a nice choice, too. However, you should only pick it if you're sure about the successful outcome of your laning phase (convenient counter-pick, bad opponents, etc.).
Resolve Tree:
  1. Feel free to spend 5 points in "Recovery" whenever you will get punished in lane. Anyhow, I feel that "Unyielding" sinergizes very well with obduracy.png and landslide.png.
  2. "Insight" is a nice choice, too. Who doesn't want some extra CDR on summoner spells?
  3. "Legendary Guardian" will help us maximize our tankiness, especially in teamfights. Despite that, I think that 15 bonus armor/magic resist when surrounded by 5 enemies is not that much.

ABILITIES

  • Granite Shield (passive) malphitepassive.png - Granite Shield is a passive ability that grants Malphite an absorption shield with a strength equal to 10% of his maximum health. This shield refreshes to full strength when Malphite does not take any damage for 10 seconds. 

TIP: Always try to trade with your opponent with your shield up. Otherwise, wait until the cooldown refreshes (you can see the timer upon the passive icon).


  • Seismic Shard (Q) seismicshard.png - Seismic Shard is a targeted ability that sends a shard of rock at a target enemy unit, dealing magic damage and slowing it on impact. For the next 4 seconds, Malphite's movement speed is increased by the same flat amount lost by the target.

TIP: Procs on-hit effects (e.g. 3116_32.png). Is affected by spellvamp. Furthermore, The bonus movement speed granted to Malphite is always equal to what amount of movement speed Seismic Shard's target would have lost from the slow, even if the slow was not applied.


  • Brutal Strikes (W) obduracy.png - Brutal Strikes passively causes Malphite to gain additional armor. When activated, Malphite's basic attacks deal additional physical damage (scales with AP now!) to the target and nearby units during 6 seconds.

TIP: An effective minion-wave clearing tool (but remember: lasthitting is the way to go!). Brutal Strikes' splash damage can hit stealthed enemy champions, but it will not reveal them. Brutal Strikes' splash damage is amplified by critical strikes). Be sure to pop it up before you engage with your ultimate.


  • Ground Slam (E) landslide.png - Our bread and butter. Ground Slam is an ability that deals magic damage and reduces the attack speed of all enemy units in a radius around Malphite.

TIP: Another effective minion-wave clearing tool. Makes AD champions mad.


  • Unstoppable force (R) ufslash.png - Unstoppable Force is a ground targeted area of effect dash ability that causes Malphite to charge to the target location. When he reaches this location all enemy units within the area of effect take magic damage and are knocked up for 1 second, then stunned for 0.5 second.

TIP: Can be used as a gap-closer. Ganked and flash on cooldown? No problem, just R the way back! It's most effective when used against three or more enemies. Can be used to neutralize fed champions (just dash towards them and make them cry!). Extremly effective in conjunction with 4.png. Your team went into a teamfight and you're late? Don't worry, flash towards them and pop your ulti to reach the teamfight. Enemies won't see you coming.

Starting Items

    Balanced start - HP, AP, mana regeneration and health regeneration (pots).
    Against heavy AD champions (Riven, Renekton, a.s.o.) - Armor and health sustain.
    Against bully champions (Darius, a.s.o.) - movement speed and health regeneration.
    Sustain start against heavy AD champions - health sustain and armor.
    AGAINST HEAVY AP CHAMPIONS (Ryze, Vladimir, etc.) - Would only recommend this start if you're planning to get an early Chalice of Harmony.
    against bully or skillshot reliant champions - Movement speed and health regeneration.
    Against heavy AD champions - Armor and health sustain.
    Another option against heay AD champions, but with a touch of vision.
    Mobility, sustain and vision.
    The best item for early all-ins. Not recommended on Malphite, since you will reach your maximum all-in potential at level 6. Is a worthy buy after your first back.

Core Items

    STANDARD BUILD | Sorcerer's shoes - magic penetration needed for sunfire cape. Abyssal Scepter - Works extremely good with sunfire cape + magic resistance. Sunfire cape - tons of AOE damage if using magic penetration. Frozen heart - Best tanky item on Malphite: armor, mana, CDR and AS debuff. Iceborn Gauntlet - mana, CDR, armor and nice AoE damage. Size of the slow now increases with bonus armor. Randuin's Omen - armor, health and AS/MS debuff.
    CORE ITEMS | Please, read STANDARD BUILD for more info.
    A must-item for a lot of players. Malphite is a very mana-hungry champion - no more with Chalice of Harmony!
    DISCLAIMER: Doran's Ring stacking is not recommended when playing Malphite.

Situational Items

    Boots of Swiftness/Mobility - extra speed/ganking. Ninja Tabi - against heavy AD teams. Mercury's Treads - against heavy AP teams.
    Rylai's Cristal Scepter - Good amount of AP and HP. I dislike it, since we won't need the passive. We already have Q, guys! Guardian Angel - Extra-tankyness and revive. Mejai's Soulstealer - Buy if fed. Warmog's Armor - Best health item in the game. Health sustain is crazy. Banshee's Veil - Nice stats and spellblocker. Locket of the Iron Solari - Is bought usually by junglers/supports. Buy it if no other did already.
    Ohmwrecker - Stats and towerblock. Used for diving turrets. Trinity Force - Gives a bunch of stats. MS buff per hit and increased damage. Rabadon's Deathcap - Strong pure AP item. 30% increased AP. Deathfire Grasp - Still a strong AP item. Nuke. Void Staff - A really good item on Malphite. Works well with your Sunfire Cape and your abilities. Athene's Unholy Grail - Best mana regeneration item in the game.
    Always remember to ward your lane and kill the scuttle crab located in the middle of the river. A team with map-control is a happy team. Vision wards cost now only 75G and you can carry two of them.
    Buy potions for extra-sustain. Please, bear in mind that they cost 50G now!
    Morellonomicon - Provides AP and CDR. Extremely good against heavy health regenerating champions like Swain, Dr. Mundo, Trundle, Sion, Vladimir, Aatrox, Nasus and Renekton due to his passive (Dealing magic damage to an enemy champion below 40% health inflicts Grievous Wounds to them for 4 seconds).
    Elixir of Iron: +25% increased size, +300HP, +25% tenacity, and the Path of Iron buff for 3 minutes (Moving leaves a path behind that boosts allied champion's movement speed by 15%); great for tanking, boosting your allies' movement speed and prevent enemy from kiting you - Elixir of Sorcery [recommended]: +40 ability power, +15 mana regeneration per 5 seconds, and the Sorcery buff for 3 minutes (Damaging a champion or turret deals 25 bonus true damage. This effect has a 5 second cooldown versus champions but no cooldown versus turrets); nice AP/mana regeneration boost with a spot of true damage included!
    Righteous Glory: health, mana, a movement boost when moving towards towers and a decent speed steroid for initiating fights (it does no longer affect our allies).
    Luden's Echo - 120AP, +7%MS and a nice AoE damage. However, I won't recommend this item on Malphite since we are not an AP carry and we won't be able to maximize its splash damage.
    Rod of Ages - A decent amount of HP, mana and AP + a very nice passive which will give you sustain on every level-up. A very gold efficient item.
    Zz'Rot Portal - Very meta-friendly nowadays. Gives you tasty resistances, a movement speed boost whenever you move towards towers and it also spawns lil' f*ckers who will push the lane non-stop.
    Dead Man's Plate - I'm really enjoying this item on Malphite so far. It will provide us with a big chunk of health and armor, a +60 movement speed boost when fully charged and finally a crushing blow which will eventually slow the enemy target, dealing extra damage.

Darkin, please - Just try to not get poked by his aatroxE.png and get 3143_32.png or 3110_32.png as soon as possible. You should be trying to lasthit and smashing your E whenever he goes all in for you. If you don't feel comfortable at all when laning against him, be sure to pick 3.png.

A void in the ass - He will outsustain you and CC/silence you all day long. Furthermore, his R will hurt you like a banana in the anus. I would strongly recommend rushing 3165_32.png/3028_32.png/3111_32.png and buying 2031.png or 2003_32.png. Just try to lasthit and wait for jungler's gank.

Aracnophobia - Although Elise is not seen at top in the current meta-game anymore, she's still a living nightmare. She will poke you all day long and rape your rocky face with his %HP/% missing HP abilities and spider-form. What is more, she can juke your ultimate with her eliseE.png. Rush some MRes item like 3028_32.png,  3001_32.png or 3102_32.png. Picking 14.png will help you defeat this filthy beast.

Demacian justice in your balls! - Facing Garen can be a disastrous experience for newbie Malphites, but fear no more. Here are a few tips to help you out. First of all, start the game with 1029_32.png and 2003_32.pngx4, since Garen is a very AD heavy champion (have you seen his level 1 garenbladestorm.png? If he manages to land the whole spin on you at early levels you're done). Second, be sure to lasthit and run to safety whenever he activates his garenslash3.png (silence is a pain in the ass, y'know!) and his garenbladestorm.png. Rush some heavy armor items like 3068_32.png3025_32.png or 3143_32.png to start trading with him. Lastly, remember to stay away from him when your health-bar hits the ~25-30% mark, since he will evaporate you with garenjustice.png. At later stages of the match, you should have a considerably chunk of armor and Garen will not be a problem for you anymore (by the way, you should be ignoring him and smashing the faces of the enemy carries!). Remember to play safe if you're the villain.

Jurassic Park meets a yordle! - This little yordle will poke you and shred your HP bar once he gets 3153_32.png. In addition, his  gnarE.png (E on mini-gnar stance) will deal damage based on the target's maximum health, making Malphite cry a river. Feel free to rush any heavy armor item like 3143_32.png3110_32.png or 3068_32.png and remember to not fight him when his rage bar is full. Rage micro-managing is the key in this match-up: all-in him when his rage bar is low. Lastly, avoid standing near to walls when he transforms, since he will stun you for ages.

Poke, poke, poke - Jayce is all about poking/harrassing. You will have hard times during early/mid game. Be sure to rush armor items in the early stages of the game like 3025_32.png3143_32.png or 3047_32.png. Buy a 2031.png and lasthit under your tower. Wait until he's OOM or until your jungler ganks your lane. All-in him (with the help of your jungler) with your ufslash.png and you should be fine. When mid game is over, you should already have tons of armor so Jayce won't be a threat for you anymore.

Medium
Holy f*ck, it's a viking! - You shouldn't have problems at all when facing Olaf. Just be sure he doesn't poke you with his olafaxethrowcast.png (don't let him pick his axe from the ground!) and for Gods sake, don't ult him when he has already casted olafragnarok.png, since he will spam /lol emote at you until /ff. Stack HP (not armor) to mitigate his true damage.

He's a yordle, nuff' said - Rumble is one of this hard-counters you don't want to meet on the Fields of Justice. His main source of damage is a low CD/AoE ability, which will make you cry all day long. In addition, he has a very underrated (but strong) shield and a decent slow. His ultimate is living Hell. You need to rush MRes items (3028_32.png3001_32.png or 3102_32.png) and stay away from his rumbleflamethrower.png. Buying 3111_32.png could save your life. Try to bait his overcharge and punch him in the face afterwards. Every time you see rockets falling from the sky, run like a girl.

How to kick Khaleesi's butt! - If you're gonna face this monster, you should get an early 3068_32.png and 3025_32.png to stop her massive pushing potential. Shyvana is one of the most beefiest and tankiest bruisers in the game, this is the reason why you should get some defensive stat-shredding item like 3001_32.png (the extra magic resistance will minimize her damage output) or 3135_32.png. Also, don't try to trade with her when her shyvanaimmolationaura.png is up.

Another yordle. I hate yordles - He won't let you farm. His AA/blindingdart.png/AA reset combo will make you cry. Poison, insane mobility with his movequick.png, more range than you and shrooms. You're fucked, son. Buy 2031.png and hug your tower to last-hit. Laning phase will be hard, but in TFs you'll faceroll this lil' bastard.

Bloody sh*t! - Sustain, AoE, HP/AP stacking, pool, etc. He's the Devil. I'm dead serious here. Build MRes items. Try to lasthit and pray he pushes your lane, making it easier for your jungle to gank him. If he rushes 3145_32.png, you're dead. Try ganking other lanes with 12.png.

Medium
OP sustain - He will outsustain you. He will chase you when your HP are low. He will supress you. Go for the core build and play passively until you get the 3025_32.png or 3068_32.png14.png and 3102_32.png are really good choices to counter his kit. Buy 3165_32.png if you want to see a big warewolf cry.

If Vladimir was the Devil, this motherf*cker is the Devil's son - One of the champions with highest sustain in the game nowadays. If he has the correct runes (i.e. mana regen/CDR), you are doomed. He will push you out of the lane making you BTB (back to base/recalling). Whenever you see him casting a ghoul, run into the bushes to avoid being targeted by him. If he has planted 2043.png/3340.png in the bushes, you're done. Lasthit, wait for jungler's gank or try to gank other lanes with 12.png.

The nasty Flubber! - He is big, tanky, doesn't rely on AAs to do huge amounts of damage, he has gap-closer, nice sustain and he's green (Heineken lovers unite!). In order to face this sticky beast, you will need to rush 3102_32.png. As soon as he gets 3065_32.png, be sure to counter him with 3165_32.png. Always remember to lasthit, since Zac will naturally push his lane, making him an easy objective for your jungler. In order to get him efficiently ganked, try to make him waste his zacE.png before your jungler arrives so he won't get away.

There is a world of perfect harmony, where all are part of the whole. The Monolith is the essence of all creation, and its denizens are but singular pieces of it. It is beautiful in its symmetry, and in its almost complete lack of uncertainty. The rocky beings that live there know their place and work to fulfill their duties to the fullest extent, functioning almost as a superorganism or hive. Malphite has always strived to live up to his full potential, as his own personal part of the whole, serving the role of a distinguished creature questing to enforce his people's flawless vision of order.

One day, without warning, a dimensional rift opened, and he was summoned across the cosmos to the world of Runeterra. The transition was painful and terrifying for him, as he was cut off from the song of his people and the Monolith - things that had been ever-present in him since the day he was born. He raged, trapped in the Summoning Circle, as those who had called him made their plea. Runeterra was a world that had nearly been consumed by its disharmony. It was a world that needed champions to bring order out of chaos. It was to that end that the rock-creature was summoned, so that he could aid them in this quest. Looking past his own fear and apprehension, Malphite could see that this was a respectable goal, and one in which he could participate - perhaps uniquely so. Today, as part of the League of Legends, he hammers those who would seek to upset Valoran's movement toward order, especially turning his attention to those that wield chaotic magic. Unfortunately, Malphite has also begun to change, as he has been forced to face his own profound loneliness among the world's vibrant individuality.

Fun section #1 - Trivia Back to Top

  • Malphite was designed by Coronach.
  • When Malphite punches the ground with his Ground Slam attack, he leaves a glowing fist imprint of the Riot Games logo.
  • Malphite is one of a few champions that actually have multiple textures in one skin. When his Granite Shield passive is broken, he appears as though he is made of molten rock until the passive recharges and then reverts back to his normal texture. When Malphite activates Brutal Strikes he has a different type of molten rock texture with glowing arms.
  • Malphite's original cost was 3150 IP. It was lowered to 1350 IP on April 12, 2011.
  • Malphite's dance resembles capoeira called Ginga.

  • Although Malphite disagrees with  Maokai's view of life as a curse, Malphite also stated that he is "... proud to call the Twisted Treant my ally", suggesting that these two elemental champions get along quite well despite their differences.
