Teleport is just the best summoner for Malphite. Your job as a tank toplaner is to help your team and you can't do that if you run an offensive summoner like 14.png
Moreover you dont really have high kill potential in lane pre-6, so there's no reason tu run Ignite over Teleport.

Masteries Back to Top

0/12/18 

-Savagery will allow you to farm easly
-Secret Stash will give you some more Health and Mana sustain in lane, and you don't really need that 2% damage in the 1v1 from Assassin
-Merciless will give you a good amount of damage to low health targets, but if you feel you will need the mana sustain you can go for Meditation. It's up to you.
-Dangerous Game I think this mastery is really good for a tank, and you wont use the Bandit mastery that much.

-Unyelding is really good no matter what, you are going to build a lot of resistances, so you will benefit a lot from this mastery. I personally run Recovery only if I'm facing a really hard lane.
-Tough Skin no reason to don't pick this one
-Runic Armor is just a better mastery than Veteran's Scars. It increases your passive's shield, your health regen, your potions' healing, your Grasp's healing and so on... Veteran's Scars is just usefull into an early game all in which is not what you are looking for.
-Insight will give you TP and Flash more often, it's just better in my opinion than the increased regen.
-Swiftness pick this one 90% of the time, but if you are facing a team without CC's (remeber that Tenacity doesn't reduce knock-ups duration) you can go for Legendary guardian which will give you some more tankyness.
-Grasp of the Undying is probably the best choice for tanky toplaners. Gives you more damage during trades, sustain and a lot of damage in late game. The other two key masteries are not bad too and you can run them if you prefer, but Grasp is the best in my opinion.


WHY NOT 12/0/18?
The only reason why I prefer 0/12/18 is for the usefull things you get from the cunning tree, and you still get 5% more damage on target below 40% health. But if you want some more damage (7,5%) and you feel you dont need biscuits and dangerous game you can run 12/0/18.

Why do you max E over Q?

Because E is really strong into most of the melee matchups, and gives you waveclear too. Q costs a lot of mana and makes pretty hard to waveclear but you can max it if you are facing a ranged matchup or an hard matchup where you need to escape.

I sometimes like to max W after E if i'm planning to build only armor in the early-midgame.

Starting Items

    Probably your best start. Will give you Health and Mana sustain and a good amount of damage during the early trades.
    If you are facing a hard AD matchup and you just want to survive the lane
    If you are facing a ranged champ or some champ that deals single target damage that outsustains you (like Irelia or Trynda)

Core Items

    1. core vs ad
    2. Choose one of these.
    3. Take Abyssal if you are doing well, it increases your damage a lot and gives you a good amount of MR and CDR. build spirit visage if you are not doing that well and need just to be tanky for your team
    4. Build just one of these, choose depending on how usefull will be the Frozen Heart's passive.
    5. At this point 90% of the times Randuin is is the best choice, unless they don't have crit. chance.
    a) full build vs balanced damage
    b) full build vs heavy AD/autoattacker comp
    C) full build vs heavy AP comp

Situational Items

    This item is very strong if you build this very early into the game (like third item), since the enemy ADC wont have the armor pen, MR and lifesteal to handle this. Usually really good vs Botrk/on-hit marksmen
    Very annoying but that's all. I just build this if I need to match the enemy tank who is doing that.
    Now this gives 10% CDR, it's not that bad. I would pick this into some poke/burst compositions.

This matchup is most likely in your favour, it can be really easy or a bit difficult based on the Irelia skill and build.
At lv.1 start Elandslide.png and use it whenever she comes close to you, you will reduce her attack speed a lot. Usually Irelia takes Eireliaequilibriumstrike.png at lv 1 so she can out-trade you if she plays smart.

At lv.2 take Wobduracy.png and she will probably take her Qireliagatotsu.png and at this point if she comes for a trade just E her and kite back into your minion wave smashing her with your W autoattacks, you will probably get a good trade.

At. lv.3 take one more point into your E and if she comes for a trade just keep kiting into your minion wave trading autos.

Lv 4 and 5 are good for Irelia, she can outrade you at this point so be carefull. 

Try to get a good back as soon as you can, taking some armor and HP since the more Irelia scales with levels and the more will be hard for you to trade cause ofher true damage. Try to close your sunfire before she completes her trinity and you will be able to win at this point. If you are having troubles just push and look for a TP play.

If Irelia gets ahead in the early game the lane is over for you, so hug the turret and farm safe if it happens.
