New Runes Back to Top

New runes below.
Heyho my fellow yi players. I provided you guys three new rune pages. One focuses on Inspiration, the other one on Domination and the last one on Precision.
First of all, these are the runes I'll most likely be playing. I tried all of them already but I had best success with the first rune page.

The first rune page: Glacial Augment, out of all 3 "Keystones" this is the best to go on Yi. You provide yourself and your team a slow which makes Yi viable in early stages even without red buff. Perfect Timing, you gain a cheap zhonyas for early game, out of all 3 masteries you can take this or Hextech Flash is the best pick to go. I tried Hextech Flash aswell as Perfect Timing already, I'm not a great fan of both. With Hextech Flash you can do some fancy ganks from enemy raptors like Lee Sin/RekSai is able to. Magical Footwear clearly out of all 3 again the "best-in-slot" choice.  Futures Market reminds me of Dravens passive, which is considered useless lategame, Minion Dematerializer worst choice here since you are a Jungler. Cosmic Sight, I prefer this one over Approach Velocity, I think this is something like a "comfort-pick" you have to know for yourself what to choose.

Lets talk about the second one, I can only imagine this rune page on a lethality&warrior build or crit build.
Predator, I took predator to be more viable in midgame. Dark Harvest is a nice keystone but it doesn't fit my own playstyle. Here I can only repeat what I do say to many people that ask me stuff about Yi. You have to figure out your own way of playing Yi. Sudden Impact, Yi's Q is something like a blink/teleport, if you read his Q tooltip it is considered a teleport, this mastery also pushes your early potential. Eyeball Collector reminds me of Bounty Hunter I think it was, where you got 1% damage for each unique champion kill but instead you gain a fixed amount of value not a percentage. Relentless Hunter, I consider Ingenious Hunter bad on yi unless you play a build like Youmuus&Edge of Night and even then it is probably worse than the other masteries, Ravenous Hunter is here the 2nd best mastery for me, you only have 1 ability that damages champions this way to use it.

Now lets head to the third and last page.
Press the Attack or Lethal Tempo.
After my testings I realized Press the Attack is more viable on a crit Yi build and Lethal Tempo on a on-hit build.
I went into practice tool and tried out how much Attackspeed I would overcap with crit yi. The result was: none.
The Attackspeed was at around 2.41 Attackspeed with highlander.png. On the other hand is Lethal Tempo, Lethal Tempo is obviously a great choice for on-hit builds since you can overcap attackspeed for a short amount of time.
Triumph obviously best mastery choice in this slot. Legend: Alacrity after my testings with the new runes, I think I can say this is the best choice of all three, to be honest. I would rate Alacrity, Tenacity and Bloodline on the same stage. Coup de Grace best choice in my opinion here, a better version of the old one + you get free stats for a set amount of time.

Q is better for the jungle clear.

Now to some "PVP" action. Dont use your q everytime you got her up, first you have to get rid of what kind of champ you play against. There are times you have to engage with q of course but q is an important spell to dodge. Rather safe it to dodge e.g. fizz ult. Your W aswell, it can be a life safer so often. Dont use it to heal yourself everytime it is up, yea the heal is pretty nice but most of the player forget about the damage reduction. Sometimes you want to just w if you get bursted down by a leblanc as example. Or you are in a 1v2 skirmish and you have to wait for your cooldowns or either your teammate.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

This is not a build. I consider these items as must have items, yes you could take them all but my advice here is pick 1-2 of the NON-JUNGLE items
example build for balanced enemy teams
example build, 2/3 tank enemy comp
example build, heavy ad enemy team frozen heart/frozen mallet
example build, heavy ap enemy comp. note: my advice was always maw of malmortius over steraks gage but now steraks gage is even stronger than maw against ap comps, however if the enemy is really hurting your ass, get maw since it provides magic resist
example build, on-hit yi titanic/nashors tooth/steraks gage last item, guardian angel might also be viable
    IE>PD/STATIKK>PD/STATIKK>BT>LORD DOMINIKS>MERCURIAL crit yi build

Situational Items

Situational Items, adapt to your game and to your playstyle
Situational Items, adapt to your game and to your playstyle
Situational Items, adapt to your game and to your playstyle
Situational Items, adapt to your game and to your playstyle

I can not say it often enough when people ask me classic things like "what is the best build". You have to learn your own way of playing Yi. I see many people that ask me lack basic knowledge, Itemization, Jungle Tracking. Itemization is something you HAVE TO learn, follow the game flow decide what item you should build next and always pay attention to enemy builds. Sometimes I think it is not well thought by my side showing people finished itembuilds since I can say that most of the people won't bother reading the text down below.

VS

Amumu

Hard

Amumu is a pretty solid solo carry jungler. His ult can be game changing, if you know your team is gonna lose teamfights, try to pick him alone somewhere. Or go for splitpush and tell your team just to waveclear

VS

Aurelion Sol

Medium

Skill matchup. It depends on enemy aurelion sol experience. I haven't played that often against an aurelion sol and everytime I played against someone he got destroyed. I think Aurelion Sol is pretty decent to carry in solo queue. You dodge his abilities with your Q easily.

VS

Diana

Hard

Watchout. This matchup can be annoying af. We all know Diana well and her one-shot damage. She is one of the best examples to build the third item build. Safe your q/w for her q. Dodge it in best case or just block the damage. If you want to delete her aswell go for the full ad build. I recommend dodge her dianaQ.png with your alphastrike.png and safe the meditate.png for her passive since she will most likely proc it with lich bane.

VS

Ekko

Easy

Easy but annoying aswell. If Ekko gets pretty fed, rush bork+wits end+swiftness boots into deadmansplate. Dont engage with your Q first, he can wallhop with ekkoE.png

VS

Fizz

Medium

Well, this matchup is almost skillbased. Dodge fizzmarinerdoom.png with alphastrike.png and block his fizzjump.png with meditate.png. Easypeasy and burn him down. If he gets fed rush bork and either witsend or maw of malmortius. If he's building tanky, get all 3 of them.

VS

Graves

Hard

Graves does a shit load of damage. Dodge his graveschargeshot.png with either alphastrike.png or meditate.png. I would recommend alphastrike.png after his gravesmove.png or alphastrike.png if you see his gravessmokegrenade.png animation. Its important to sidestep his gravesclustershot.png since it doesnt move like ahri's q, you can dodge it just by sidestepping the line.

VS

Hecarim

Easy

Well, this matchup is pretty easy. If Hecarim gets fed get ninja tabis and thats it.

VS

Ivern

Medium

can be pretty annoying, he can invade very fast, provide double buffs to team (himself and another one), on-hit is the "best" choice with some tanky mix, dont underestimate his shield damage and daisy

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

Easy matchup like Hecarim. Get ninja tabis if he gets fed.

VS

Jax

Medium

This is semi medium-hard. This can be a pretty skill matchup. Dodge his jaxcounterstrike.png with alphastrike.png. Wait like 1 second, if you played a couple of games against a jax, you will know the perfect timing. If you did bad and you didnt dodge properly, press meditate.png. Use your wujustyle.png after his jaxcounterstrike.png.  Get mercurys if he gets fed.

VS

Kha'Zix

Easy

nothing to say. get ninja tabis if he is fed. If you 1v1 him and he abuses his passive+ult, press your  w  1 second after his stealth.

VS

Kindred

Medium

Kindred is pretty annoying. If you play against a experienced kindred player, she will screw you pretty hard. Well thats only for the early. Prioritize her passive, she gets a shit load of damage once she hits 5+ stacks. Here is almost nothing to dodge/block except her kindredE.png dodge the last stack with meditate.png and you should be pretty fine. Get ninja tabis if she gets fed.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

LeeSin can be pretty dominant, if he abuses his early power. That counts only if you go for early ganks. If you are against a Lee as lvl5 1v1 and you guys have the first stage jungle item (challenging/chilling smite). You will win every 1v1. Its just impossible you lose that 1v1. Dodge his first blindmonkqone.png with alphastrike.png or block his second blindmonkqone.png dmg with meditate.png.

VS

Malzahar

Medium
Nothing to say. Haven't played against a malzahar yet since he is perma banned. But if you get some juicy malzahar, show him how dominant wuju is and how crap void like void damage is (aka zero damage since void is nothin, if you got the joke). I prioritize his alzaharnullzone.png spawn and kill it first. I would probably build the ad yi build.

VS

Nocturne

Easy

Nothing to say in this matchup. If he gets fed go for ninja tabis and ghostblade into deadmansplate.

VS

Nunu

Easy

Thats just an objective control matchup. If the first drake is the cloud drake, let nunu take it and farm instead his jungle.

VS

Rammus

Easy

Easy matchup. Ignore him in tf's and kill every carry, in some cases you want to protect your adc with helping him to kill rammus. Its up to you how you will play this matchup

VS

Rek'Sai

Medium

Rek'Sai is just pretty op. She is very mobile, does true dmg with full passive and her clear is pretty fast + her sustain. Dont underestimate her, if Rek'Sai is ganking very much and not spending any time in jungle, I would recommend to do the same as she does. Rush bloodrazor into swiftness boots and ghostblade. Go for the full early, in some cases you can take the ad jungle item aswell, its not bad but you have less attackspeed dont forget.

VS

Rengar

Easy

Nothing special to say. Go for ninja tabis if he is fed, go for randuins if he is ultra fed.

VS

Sejuani

Hard

no more easy since patch 7.9. she has more cc in her kit and better damage scaling due to her passive. watchout, fights early can end deadly

VS

Shaco

Medium

skill matchup. just avoid fighting him until you have challenging smite.

VS

Shyvana

Hard

She does a lot of damage. If she's fed, go for full assassin (ad) build with steraks or mercurial+maw in it.

VS

Skarner

Easy

Uhm, nothing really to say about this since you can only dodge his E anyways. U can dodge his Q aswell, but better dodge the E because he will stun you.

VS

Trundle

Medium

Matchup sucks balls. He is pretty hard to kill, avoid fighting early, he can debuff your ad with his q all the time.

VS

Tryndamere

Hard

its hard to kill him 1v1 late. Ninja Tabis+ Randuins Omen will do the work, in some pretty hard matchups I go for frozen heart aswell.

VS

Udyr

Medium

Well, I think most of the Udyrs will go for the splitpush or wont build full dmg most likely. I think its an equal matchup, he just puts more pressure on map than you early.

VS

Vi

Medium

Can be a tough matchup early. Vi is pretty strong due to her passive shield and her W passive. She got an AA cancel aswell (E). I wouldnt suggest to fight her 1v1 until you have challenging smite.

VS

Volibear

Hard

Volibear is strong af. He just builds HP and bites the hp out of your ass. Watchout, I wouldnt suggest to 1v 1 him until you have botrk and ninja tabis + some hp.

VS

Warwick

Easy

Easy matchup. I dont think he can 1v1 you unless you do bad and miss everything, try to less his Q dmg once with your W since you cant dodge his ult or negate the dmg with W.

If he gets annoying, get QSS

VS

Wukong

Medium

Can be a hard matchup. Depends on the enemy wukong and his experience. He has a lot of burst early. I'd suggest to get ninja tabis after blood razor

VS

Xin Zhao

Hard

Xin Zhao is a matchup for its own. He can be hard to beat or he's just crap af. A good Xin want probably to ult you after you used Q, so safe it.

VS

Zac

Medium

Zac has a lot of base dmg, dont underestimate his cc aswell. Dont dive him unless you know his passive just popped. You can dodge every skill from him with Q except his ult since it bounces 3 or 4 times I dont remember sorry.

Solo/DuoQ Climbing Back to Top

  1. First of all, sorry guys. I was ill a long time with fever and I didn't had any time to do something big about the guide.

In this section I want to talk about the solo&duoQ. Many of you guys who read my guide asked me how to play solo or even duoQ properly. Well guys, there is no real answer that will lead you to win over and over. First of all, dont play a big champion pool, play a few champs and become great with them. Communicate with your team, dont force objectives if you're ahead, especially lategame a mistake can lead to your loss even if you're ahead.
I absolutely love to watch your games guys. I can improve myself a bit (being more objective), it doesn't only help me getting better decisions while im playing live, it also helps if someone reminds you about your mistakes in general, I'm talking for myself aswell. Stay focused ingame, I have a little "trick" may some cs players of you recognize this, dont stare at one point for a long time just move your cursor or shake it a little bit. Your mindset also affect your gameplay. So go motivated into rankeds, its just non sense if you go into your rankeds being prepared to lose (typical tilt), take a break, drink some TEA (josh I love black tea :D). Eat healthy, do some sports, yep thats also helps out guys. It's good for your condition aswell for your mindset. Even most of the pro players do some sports (im 100% seriouslYI :D). As long as you have a 50.01% winrate, you will climb, it just will take you a little bit longer :P
I know, many of you guys asked for some gameplays but imo I'm pretty busy due to my a-levels. I can recommend to check cowseps youtube, he published a few tutorial videos about yi. And in general if you want to see yi gameplay check his stream, since he is for a long time yi main he has more knowledge than me.

Lets summarize things:
-stay focused
-take breaks
-dont stare at one point
-eat/live healthy, do sports
-dont tilt
-DRINK TYI (Tea)
-there is no elohell

ALSO I WANT TO GRATEFULLY THANK YOU GUYS, FOR YOUR AMAZING SUPPORT SO FAR. I WISH TO ALL OF YOU GUYS A NICE SYISON (Season tho.. dem yi jokes lol)

Synergy Back to Top

Hello guys, once again its me.
Since I wanted to make this topic a long time ago and which is in my opinion underrated.

"Synergy"

I won't cover every champion and his synergy with yi. I'll try to make it as short as possible.

Obviously the best working champions with yi are the ones that can shield/heal/provide any cc immunity or damage buffs/or just bring raw cc with them.

If we take a look at supports, this would be my ranking:
highest tier: Janna, Lulu, Soraka, Zilean, Nami

good tier: Sona, Taric, Ivern, Bard

now these rankings are just for survivability.

there are supports obviously that have tons of cc and peel, they are also very good: thresh, alistar, braum, tahm kench, leona, blitzcrank and nautilus

meh supports: blitzcrank, nautilus

Now this is only my personal opinion, you may dont have the same opinion about the synergy as I do. It's not a guide which support you should pick into a yi, since all of them work well but in case of survivability and current meta there are many better supports besides the heavy cc bots like leona, alistar

An ADC (attack based champion, most likely autoattack = so Yi fits into that category aswell) usually builds damage and crit but to make crit work efficiently, you have to stack also attackspeed. That's why current meta is changing slightly. Lethality items getting nerfed, tanks get changed.
So to make crit build work you need 3 stats: Damage, Crit, Attackspeed. That is no matter what 3 items you need at least, to make it work. Thats why Lethality worked so well, because you only stacked early damage + penetration for midgame*, lategame a lethality adc will lose against a crit adc in most cases.

So I hope I could explain somewhat to you guys why it is not worth rushing ardent censer for yi. *as always a messy guide :-P*

Updates Back to Top

Guys, if you have recommendations about my guide, whatever it is like new topics, mechanics I've to explain or even if I did somewhere mistakes (since im not english native), let me know in the comment section or in league :)

About Me Back to Top

Feel free to add me in league of legends, so I can like "live support" you :D

sry for my bad english :3

Heyho duderinos and duderinas,
my name is Oleg and I'm from germany, yes Oleg is no "common" name in germany, im born in Kazakhstan (close to russia). I'm currently 19 years old and I'm attending a college. Besides playing games I practice martial arts, listen to music, watching anime (you can clearly say that by my name:D) and even draw sometimes (nowadays less than before). Of course I play other games besides League of Legends, there are many games I did enjoy and still do.
At the moment I play pretty often Warframe, League of Legends, CS:GO. I played also both StarCraft games. Which I really loved, SC1 (StarCraft 1) was like my childhood game. I didn't play that much multiplayer in SC2 (the pvp one), I most likely played co-op missions with other players. Besides those games I'm playing Battlefield 1 if I just want to play some quick-shooter. Actually I'm not a fan anymore of CoD. I used to play very lot of CoD MW or better known as CoD4. Duuuuuuuuuuuude.. those promod times were so fantastic, jesus christ.  Nostalgia right in the feels.. Well lets stop crying and continue. I played also Watch Dogs 1 and Dying Light, I liked both very much aswell. Both stories were just nice, I'd recommend everyone to buy Dying Light, it's worth it. I played also the new Need for Speed, it was nice the first hours but once you hit Lvl50, its more like meeh.. hmm....
Since we had a Wii at home I played on it a lot when my parents bought me the game "The Last Story".. dang it. That game was so beautiful, sad tho the game title was also the theme like, it was the last game the director would ever do again. I played the whole story like 19-20times. :D.
Now to some old childhood game, it is Tekken 3. Dude, that was fun. And im SOOOOOOOO HYYYPEEED about the TEKKEN 7 RELEASE ON PC LIKE ?!?!?!? WUT. jeez
So yea, lets pull the games beside. Of course I also listen to music, like every genre so far, prob I'd dislike metal I'm not sure yet. Now lets talk about anime, well I don't want it to be any longer since the pc part is so god damn long and there are not really any infos for you guys that would improve your gameplay unless you're fallen in love with me and apparently we love the same games?! Nah jokes beside haha :D .. I'm gonna make it short. I watched a lot of anime yet so far and still watch if I have the time to do so. My absolute favorite anime are "Sakurasou no Pet na Kanojo" and "Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei". Yes there are very many more anime that I very enjoyed to watch (KonoSuba.. omg now he is seriously counting everyone, A.Z, Monogatari Series, classics like death note, elfenlied and so on)

Well, thats it from me, I've prob. pretty much more to say but this is gonna take such a long part for no real game changing info haha :-D
I hope you guys got me better to know now. cheers good luck in your games
