Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png- Always take flash. You can use it to set up plays with flash (R) or flash (Q). It can also be used defensively to escape.

3.png- Got nerfed but is still a great option. It can help you land binds, keep people in your ult, and keep your carries alive. I take this upwards of 60% of my games due to its many uses for Morgana.

14.png- Deadly in lane but doesn't do much outside of it. You can take this in kill lanes such as 119.png429.png202.png that require an early lead to win the game.

Cunning


Wanderer- You don't need to be dealing extra damage to minions since you are support. The moves speed with synergize well with 3117.png and help you roam.

Secret Stash- More sustain. You won't be getting buffs as support and you are in a duo lane so you cannot make use of assassin.

Meditation- The mana regen on the frost queen line got nerfed so I take this now. The damage Merciless gives is negligible.

Bandit- You are low income so you need to get as much gold as you can. This adds up. I view it as paying for your sight stone.

Precision/Intelligence- If you are doing build 1 you want Precision for more damage. Build 2 is focused on peeling so you want as much cdr as you can get for more binds and spell shields.

Thunderlords- You proc Thunderlord very easily with W. You can chunk people in lane with Q+W+Thunderlord. Your shield isn't up enough to make good use of Windspeakers. 43.png117.png16.png40.png37.png are spamming their shields and heals off cool down on multiple different people unlike you. You will normally only get around 2 uses off Black Shield in a team fight.

Resolve


Recovery- More sustain. You won't be building much resistances anyways to make Unyielding useful.

Tough Skin- You are in a duo lane taking auto attack damage from 2 different champions. It may not seem like much but it adds up.

Veteran's Scars- This combined with flat health seals will make you very tanky early game. The healing on your passive isn't enough to make this worth and like I said with Windspeakers Black Shield isn't up enough to make good use of this.

Insight- This is mostly the reason I go into the Resolve tree. Morgana can make a lot of nice plays with flash so having it up as much as possible is nice. The damage you would be getting from Ferocity isn't going to be the reason you win or lose compared to your summoner spells being up more.

Dark Binding (Q)- You always want to max this ability out first. The root duration goes up to 3 seconds which is insanely long. Against heavy damage match ups such as 143.png63.png or teams with a lot of crowd control you can go 3 points into Q and max out E for shield strength.

Tormented Soil (W)- This isn't a very useful ability for supporting but it has good damage on it when maxed. Its also great for picking up gold with 3303.png. The way I make this ability more useful is by building a 3116.png. Against teams with little magic damage or if you are doing a more damage oriented play style then max this second.

Black Shield (E)- This is a powerful ability. Most of the time you want to max this out second or sometimes first. It is a bigger than average shield but only shields against magic damage and crowd control. Good use of this can completely shut down some champions.

Soul Shackles (R)- You can use this offensively or defensively. Most Morgana players want to flash in and use 3157.png as often as they can but its not always the best way to use this ability. Yes in some situations it is the correct thing to do but often times you want to use it to lock down front line champions and assassins from killing your carries. This is a very high damage ultimate if you are able to get the full channel off but don't suicide for it.

2045.png Most people don't know this item has a unique passive - active ability cooldowns are reduced by 20% each. This makes it an obvious choice when using a heavy item active build such as 2045.png3107.png3190.png3157.png3222.png3158.png.

3092.png  Most of the time I just sit on 3098.png and end up selling it once i'm full build for 3222.png or 3504.png. I don't think the slow is that important but if you like building it then go for it. Its nice to be able to slow enemies and catch them out with binds or keep them in your ult. It is also very useful for popping 3102.png since most mid laners are building it.

This is the build I use in most of my Morgana games. It is very obnoxious to play against and you hit very hard with Q and W. I am able to carry games all on my own with this build but it still has utility which will help your team. I generally max Q -> W with this build but if you need to start putting points in E then you can. Since your ability power is going to be much higher your shield will be stronger so you can get away with not maxing it. You gain a lot of health from this build so you are able to get fully channeled ults without dying instantly or needing to use Zhonya right away. I recommend giving this build a try and if it doesn't fit your play style then use build 2.

3116.png This item is now very cheap and gives good utility and damage. Morgana's Tormented Soil (W) is pretty much useless as a support ability aside from collecting gold with 3303.png. Rylai makes your Tormented Soil very annoying since you can just drop it in a team fight and slow several people. I build this first after 2301.png3117.png since its cheap and gives good stats for Morgana.

3151.png I get this after Rylai. You become a serious damage threat after building this. It synergies well with Rylai and your Q and R since it does extra damage to targets with their movement impaired. You also gain 600 health from building these so you are a lot tankier than you normally would be meaning its much easier to get a full channeled ult off without dying.

3157.png Morgana's bread and butter item. The reason I don't rush this is because you will still be really squishy with it. This item isn't as useful as Rylai and Liandries once the active is on cool down. You also cannot expect to have follow up if you flash in with ult and Zhonya pre 20 minutes. Enemies can also escape your ult pretty easily unless you move with them. The 600 health you get from Rylai and Liandries makes it so you can tank some damage before you go into the stasis.

3135.png The last item is situational but I normally end up going with void. Its really good damage and isn't overly expensive. If you want your damage to stay relevant than I suggest you get this.

3117.png The reason I go with these is because Morgana is a great roamer and you can use the move speed to catch people out. This is a very aggressive build so you should get these asap and try to make as many picks as you can. Once your build is finished you can swap these out for 3020.png.

This is a very standard support build. You will be very good at keeping your carries alive but will deal very little damage. Morgana has amazing peel in her kit. Her ult can be used defensively to keep enemies off her carries and lock them down for long periods of time. The problem with this build is that your team reliant. If your Adc and mid laner are not good players then you won't be able to carry. I don't see Morgana as a true support but more as a utility based carry so I prefer to use build 1. If you aren't comfortable with build 1 or your laning phase isn't going to well then you can use this build.

3107.png This item is OP. Build it asap after 2049.png then you can upgrade to 2045.png after. You can win games with this item. Don't bother using it offensively because it doesn't do much damage but has an insane heal.

3190.png Also OP. This is going to be your next item with this build. The amount this item shields for is insane.

3157.png You don't need to build this item since you will normally be in the back off a team fight with this build but its nice to have just in case they do decide to focus you.

3158.png These will cap out your cdr and make your summoner spells a lower cool down which is nice. This build isn't as aggressive so you want to stay with your carries and have your abilities and summoner spells up as often as you can for protection.

3285.png  If they don't have any magic resist and you want more damage then get this. This is way cheaper than Deathcap. In my opinion the difference in damage isn't enough to make up for the cost. You will be sitting on just the large rod if you decide to save up which can cost you a team fight. If the game goes long enough then sell it for Deathcap once you have enough.

3089.png This item is too expensive but if the game goes on long enough I will swap out Rylai for this or if they have little to no magic resist I will build it over Void or sell my Ludens for it.

Easy

As long as you are good as using spell shield this match up is very easy. you can shove him in and poke him down. If you successful spell shield whoever he targets it turns into a 2v1 since he doesn't offer anything after his combo. Be careful for his level 2 flash cheese especially if you are shoving in. Take spell shield at level 2.

VS

Annie

Medium

She can break your spell shield very easily so if the lane isn't going well take an extra point in it early. Hold your bind in this lane. If your bind is up she will feel threatened and not want to walk up to poke. Since Annie's flash ult is instant you have to predict when she is going to do it. Its pretty easy to tell when an Annie wants to flash in so just shield your adc, push the wave, then back off till its back up. Its good to have brush control vs Annie since she can't q you if she can't see you. Annie wants the minions in the middle of the lane so she can harass you safely. If you are getting shoved in then she won't be able to reach you under tower, but if your shoving in then she can't get through the minions to harass you.

Bard

Easy

He will be a pain in the ass level 1 and 2 but after then you just out scale him for the rest of the game. If he gets hit by a bind hes very easy to kill and his q is very predictable to spell shield. The only problem in this lane is that his auto attacks can break your spell shield so its wise to pick up an extra point in it early if you notice that's happening.

Blitzcrank

Easy

As long as you are good at using spell shield this lane is a piece of cake. Get early 3117.png and follow his roams and he can't really do much. The only way he can really outplay you is if he runs at you, presses R for the silence, then hooks while your silenced and cannot spell shield. Watch out for that and his roams and he will be useless.

Brand

Medium

Brand does a lot of damage in lane so he can be difficult. Hold onto your bind and make him scared to walk up and poke. He will break your spell shield very easily. if you or your adc gets hit by his entire combo you will probably die so be very careful. At 6 stay spread apart from your adc so the ult doesn't bounce and you can win. He is very easy to gank since all brands are aggressive so try to set up ganks for your jungler.


The reason this match up is medium and not hard is because most brand players are really bad or they are auto filled supports. They don't know how to avoid your bind and will a lot of the times just walk straight into you. Vs a good brand this lane is hard.

Janna

Easy

The laning phase vs Janna is very boring. You won't really be able to kill her so you should just roam. Her roams don't really do anything and she doesn't have much damage or cc. You have a higher potential to carry than her since she is so team reliant so try to make plays. Your better off shielding your assassin late game than your adc so they can dive and kill the enemy carries without getting peeled by Janna

Karma

Hard

Her poke is really annoying and she can pop your spell shield easily. Laning vs her will be rough but its not impossible. Her move speed makes it really hard to land binds and trap people in your ult. She also can follow your roams really well. Most Karmas will play too agro and her q will naturally shove the lane so ask for ganks.

VS

Leona

Easy

She can't really do anything. Stand away from your adc so she has to chose which one she wants to E onto and shield whoever it is. If you are next to each other then she she will just Q whoever is not spell shielded. That's the only way Leona can out play you. Follow her roams you will be stronger since you are ranged.

VS

Lulu

Hard

Laning phase will be rough. Be careful when going for a flash ult because if shes quick enough and uses polymorph on you then you wont be able to zhonya. Hold your bind to threaten her from walking up and poking you and you will be fine. You have more play making potential than her. She is team reliant.

VS

Nami

Medium

Longer ranged poke supports that are able to give them self and their team move speed are going to be a challenge. Laning will be rough but you should be fine. Nami doesn't scale very well so you will be much more useful later. If you hit her with a bind she should be easy to kill. 


I would classify her the same as Karma and Lulu as a hard match up but you really just have to survive later you will be much more useful than her and actually start countering her.

Rakan

Easy

You hard counter him. You spell shield makes it really hard for him to ever engage and if he does you can Q him so he can't dash back out. His W has a delay on it so you have a lot of time to use spell shield.

VS

Sona

Medium

Move speed with longer ranged poke is difficult in laning phase. Hold bind so she cannot walk up and poke you safely. If she does get hit with bind she dies very quickly. She scales really well so be careful of her getting to late game because she will be much more useful than you. At 6 you can kill her easily just spell shield yourself when engaging on her.

Soraka

Medium

A good Soraka can abuse you really hard pre 6. Her Q is good damage in lane but if you notice that she is maxing it over W then you should be able to kill her adc. If she is maxing W then focus her. Her heal cool down early game is 8 seconds so you can all in before she gets levels in it. Don't let her poke you for free and farm till 6 then you start winning.

Tahm Kench

Easy

He doesn't really do much in lane or have much pressure. Focus him with your bind or when setting up a gank because he can swallow anyone else that you bind. At 6 watch out for his ult and make sure to ping missing. Laning is easy but he will be annoying later since he can swallow people out of your cc. Don't get swallowed and you can easily can out pressure him.

Taric

Easy

Laning is very easy since he can never stun you. You roams are better and you provide more damage and pressure. If he uses ult just disengage. Start channeling your ult once he channels his and they can't make much use of it since they will get stunned for most of the duration.

VS

Thresh

Easy

With good spell shield timing this lane is easy. Thresh needs to play aggressive and get kills in lane to be useful and you deny that really hard. His Q early on will break your spell shield and his autos can also break it so keep in mind if he lands it he can still reactivate it and dash to you and flay. Just deny him kills in lane and make sure to out roam him and you will be much more useful for the entire game. Thresh players despise good Morgana's because they can deny him really hard.

Vel'Koz

Medium

Is annoying in lane but not as bad as 63.png143.png. In my opinion hes not very good as a support because he is more gold reliant than the 2 above. Don't let him kill you and he won't be very useful. Laning will be rough but he is very easy to kill and gank. He also cannot roam at all really so take advantage of that.

VS

Zilean

Hard

He does a lot of damage and is hard to land a bind on because of his move speed. Your roams are better so get mobility boots and just roam. Hold onto bind to pressure him from walking up and poking.

VS

Zyra

Hard

Laning phase will be really hard. Most Zyra players are experienced on her since she has been meta for so long. Landing a bind through her plants is very difficult and she breaks your spell shield very quickly. I am also a Zyra players and its very easy to abuse Morgana in lane. At 6 you can actually kill her if you flash ult her and focus her down. Just make sure to use exhaust on her instead of the Adc since she will likely do more damage. Late game she is a really big pain and will be one of the main damage sources for her team so try to close out the game if possible.
