Summoner Spells Back to Top

3.png4.png

The standard go to for support roles. Pretty self explanatory. Should be taken in 90% of scenarios. Should take higher priority the more hard carry like champs they have like Riven, Yi, and Nocturne for example.

14.png4.png
This is for the remaining 10% of the scenarios. ONLY take this when they have a heavy sustain comp like Vlad, Soraka, and ect. Ignite not only deals true damage but also reduces their healing. HOWEVER, if they happen to have a hyper carry or an assassin, then 3.png should be your primary choice.

Masteries Back to Top

Why 12 in cunning and not 12 in ferocity

Consistency. Consistency consistency consistency. The additional damage you can inflict from ferocity is nowhere near as valuable as the utility Cunning provides. Bandit gives you gold you need to excel and get your much needed items sooner. Mediation is to help continue to have a presence. Nautilius can be a mana hungry champ so how Mediation, along with Perseverance, comes into play is that it greatly helps throughout lane phase.

Keystone Mastery: Stonebound Pact (UPDATED)

Ever since the nerf to Courage and the new mastery of Stonebound, Stonebound has became the must have keystone for Naut. Not only the +5% health is great for him but since you're also essentially the CC master, you will always have enemy champs be marked for your allies to heal off of. It is a great mastery and something that should not be underestimated. Having the potential to heal upwards of 5k from in a game from Stonebound alone is something that should not be overlooked.

Runic Armor vs Veteran Scars

You gain more value from Runic. Also affects Perseverance mastery so you can recover for even more. No reason to not take Runic

Swiftness vs Legendary Guardian

Normally, I would've taken Swiftness anyday of the week. However, Legendary Guardian is the better option as you are not your typical bruiser or fighter type. Meaning that you're not prioritizing enemy carries and chasing them down during team fights. Your job is to initiate and peel. Not to kill.

WHY MAX E FIRST

E is your primary damage and does a decent amount too. Do decent amount of damage to enemy champs and even to help waveclear when need be. Also procs Stonebound!

WHY MAX Q 2ND AND NOT W?

To be the king of CC you gotta also be the king of consistency. Not only your Hook CCs, but also damages them. His hook already has a high cooldown starting at 18 seconds. Even if you made a successful hook and the enemy somehow got away, you would want your hook to come off cooldown pretty soon. W does provide more shield and damage, it doesnt provide CC and for me, CC is my priority.

WHEN TO USE R

Your R is perhaps one of the strongest ults in the game. It is essentially the better version of Leona where this one has almost as big of a range, is point and click, cannot be affected by tenacity, and knocks up other champs in its path. So when and how to use it to maximize profit? This is my main priority list I kinda go off by.

  1. Enemy hypercarry that is focusing my carry
  2. Enemy ADCs if their position is too safe. Could knock up other champs along the way but the main purpose is to stop them from poking for a few seconds and give your team an opportunity to jump in the knocked up ADC
  3. Multiple enemies trying to focus our carry. Whoever is closest to my carry gets ulted.
His ult should be used as a disruption and to peel. Do not blow your load from the get go unless you find it absolutely necessary and only if you can get your team a guaranteed kill or to save your team from death. Your ult can easily turn the tide of a teamfight, so use it wisely.

Why Targon first over SightStone?

This is my personal preference but sustainability is highly important. Assert your lane dominance and stay in lane for longer periods of time before needing to back. With Targon providing you a faster gold income, you will be able to buy Sightstone in no time. Most likely at the end of lane phase since thats when SightStone becomes absolutely important anyhow.

Knights Vow

Possibly the greatest item you can ever buy for Naut. While the initial stats is mediocre, it's effects is what makes this item extremely strong. Redirect 12% damage from your Vowed ally to you AND heals you for 12% your Vowed ally inflicts to enemy champions. This making you even harder to kill and provides additional defense to your ally. It is perfect to pair it with champions of the likes of Riven and hyper carries. While is it a good idea to keep it vowed with your carries, you might gain and provide more benefit to fighter champs as mentioned before. Vow it to someone who does consistent damage.

Redemption and Locket

Redemption is an extremely strong item all around and the best part about is it is that you can even use it while youre dead! Think of it as a slower and targeted Soraka ult. No reason to not get this item. Same goes for Locket.

Iceborn vs Frozen Heart

Great items for it's CD. For the majority of the time, I get Iceborn for the additional slow proc and with your E being on a low cooldown, you'll be able to proc it constantly. The only time I get Frozen Heart is if they have an heavy autoattack team.

Sunfire and Athene

Now here is an interesting combo. Sunfire's passive builds up Athene and guess what? Stonebound procs Athene's healing. So with Sunfire, Athene, and Stonebound combined, you become a Soraka light with all the CC in the world. With all of these, you have the potential to heal 10k from Athene and Stonebound. Together with Knights Vow to your ally, you guys become an unstoppable pair.

How to play Naut as a support? Back to Top

General

Peel for days. Thats all you do. Initiate with Q if you're able to obtain value, auto different champs whenever possible, and most importantly, keep your carries safe. You are a huge tank of a champion that stops enemies in their tracks and your ult is perhaps one of the strongest in the game in terms of effectiveness.

Lane Phase

He somewhat acts as a safer version of Leona. During the early parts of the game, you can safely Q an enemy and do your combo and then walk off as if nothing happened because of your W and Courage. Do not all in when they're at 100%. Just keep harassing them until they're low enough to all in. If they have superior damage, just wait till you hit level 6 and ask your jungle to help for an easy gank. He provides so much utility that it is almost impossible to lose lane as long as you have a competent ADC.

If your ADC happen to back while the enemy minions start piling up and you just got back into the lane, you can stop the enemy minions from pushing by just standing their with your W active. Patiently waiting till either your minions arrive or your ADC. Which would thus make no minion go to waste by having your ADC getting that sweet farm.

After Lane Phase

By this point, you should have Sightstone. I've seen other supports make this mistake constantly where if they go help other lanes while their ADC is splitpushing, they do not ward their side of the jungle proning them to get ganked easily. If your ADC is splitpushing, ward the side of the enemy jungle they're pushing. That way you can keep them informed while you help other lanes. Learn the difference between offensive wards and defensive wards and once you do, you'll become an effective support as a whole. Aside from that, refer to what I said above in "General". Peel for days.

To put it simple, you are 102.png105.png157.png107.png120.png92.png39.png121.png2.png(without ult)56.png245.png's worst nightmare. Seeing how effective they can be, I consider this has a good thing.

SYNERGY AND PAIRING Back to Top

With the introduction to the new items and several champ reworks, team comps has become a lot more important. While Naut can fit in with any team comp as a whole, bot lane pairing/synergy is where you should focus on the most. Some ADCs works great with Naut while others may no be able to take full advantage. Here's is my little grade list on who he works best with. Note that this is from my personal experience.

S: 29.png 51.png429.png

Context: Twitch and Cait in my personal opinion are his best pairings. Twitch being able to pump out damage from a safe distance and Cait being able to synergize Naut's root passive with her traps is an absolute monster of a combo. The recent buffs to Kalista not only made her strong again but her with Naut's ult is what I like to call perfect.

A: 222.png 236.png 15.png 202.png 21.png

Context: Jinx is in a similar position with Cait in terms of synergy because of her traps but not quite as effective. Lucian has decent burst to harass hooked foes. Sivir is probably the safest lane pair you can have and her ult can help you reach your foes. Jhin can stack CC with his root gives him time to maximize his damage output. MF's ult and Naut combo is devastating but it is the only reason why I consider her to be grade A. Without her ult she's meh.

B: 110.png  81.png 18.png 42.png 119.png  22.png

Context: Nothing special or note worthy aside from the Kalista and Varus ult combo.

C: 67.png

Context: It's probably me but of all the games I had Vayne to support has been an absolute failure. The lack of waveclear and pressure makes the lane essentially an instant loss without help from the jungler. With little to no effective utility compared to her counterparts, she will be bullied in lane to the point where you have to pray that she gets her late game times.

MORE SECTIONS WILL BE ADDED Back to Top

This is still a WIP as I am planning to add in comp counters and such. I feel Naut is extremely powerful in this season and I hope I can help people realize his potential. I personally dont like him top as he's about as effective if not, more as supporting in bot lane due to his utilities. Which would thus allow room for top laners and junglers to go for something more offensive.

Even though it says i am currently Silver 1, I was Gold 1 before the season ended and even currently I am matched up with high golds and plats in case you were worried about the credibility.

If you have any comments, criticism, or suggestions, then do not be afraid to use your voice! I hope I can improve this guide down the road and when I do finally hit Plat, I hope I will gain even more knowledge on how to maximize this champion.
