Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoner Spells

Untitled-1.png

4.png Flash is the first Summoner Spell and I recommend always taking it when you're playing this champion. This is because Flash is the best Summoner Spell around. It is a really good and reliable Summoner Spell. It can be used offensively, defensively and is honestly, a really good Spell to take.

12.png Teleport is the second Summoner Spell that you should take on him. This Spell is really good because it can be used to get back to lane quicker and it can also be used to help your team. In the early game, you want to teleport back to lane after your first back. Then you should look for Teleport opportunities where you can help your team.

New Runes Back to Top

Aftershock.png?width=32For Nautilus Top I recommend taking Aftershock. This is because you can activate it with your Kit via your AA, Q, E and Ultimate.

Demolish.png?width=32 Demolish is good on Nautilus toplane because you will not be able to kill the enemy top lanes often. So having extra damage against towers is good.

Iron%20Skin.png?width=32 Iron Skin is good on Nautilus as extra armor is good even against the hardest of lanes.

Revitalize.png?width=32 Revitalize is good on Nautilus because you have shields.

In the Precision tree we will be taking Triumph.png?width=32 Triumph and Legend%20Tenacity.png?width=32 Legend:Tenacity. Triumph is good because it restores health when you get kills or assists and the other grants permanent Tenacity on take downs too.

NAUTILUS' PASSIVE IS STAGGERING BLOW!
Nautilus's Passive gives him extra damage on his basic attack dealing between 8 and 110 health ((Level x 6) + 2) and roots the enemy target. The effect cannot occure on the same target. In team fights you want to try and auto attack as many of the carries as possible and root them in place. Staggering Blow also activates Courage of the Colossus!

Screenshot_30.png

NAUTILUS' Q IS DREDGE LINE!
Nautilus' Q ability throws a anchor foward to a enemy and does magic damage to them, and briefly stunning them. Dredge Line activates Courage of the Colossus as well. The ability drags Nautilus to the landing of it. If the anchor hits terrain, the cool down will be reduced by 50%, he will also dash to it. Dredge Line has a big hitbox so it is easy to hit.

Screenshot_31.png

NAUTILUS' W IS TITAN'S WRATH!
Titan's Wrath gives nautilus a shield that lasts up to 10 seconds, giving him bonus damage on his auto attacks that deal damage to enemies around them. Titans wrath is a Auto attack reset so should be used after a auto ( Auto attack E auto attack) This can be used on towers too.

Screenshot_32.png

NAUTILUS' E IS RIPTIDE!
Nautilus' E is Riptide, nautilus creates 3 waves of explosions that circle him, each dealing damage and slowing them. Riptide is useful when clearing minion waves and last hitting. Riptide, if used efficiently can hit enemies multiple times if they are running from you, if they hit they will deal half the original damage.

Screenshot_33.png

NAUTILUS' ULTIMATE IS DEPTH CHARGE!
Nautilus' ultimate is Depth Charge, No not the ride at Thorpe Park! Nautilus sends a powerful ability that chases enemy champions dealing magic damage and knocking them up and stunning them. If any enemies are in the way of it they will also be knocked up and dealt magic damage. In team fights it could be good to ultimate the enemy support if they are bunched up. Depth charge also activates Courage of the Colossus!

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

I would recommend starting this the majority of the time. I like to take this because it gives us some AP to play around with in the laning phase.
Take this first if you're new to Nautilus or in a hard matchup. You should take this if you're in a matchup that pokes you alot.
Great Start against heavy poke/AD toplaners

Core Items

Spirit Visage should be your first item. It gives you Health, magic Resist and Cooldown reduction. I like getting this first so i can help my mid lane out by coming down at level 6 and using my ultimate to try and kill mid lane.
Sunfire Cape should be you're Second item* It is strong as it gives you a burn damage that will help you in pushing the wave, trading and last hitting. it is your core item and gives you insane early health. *You can build sunfire Cape first if you're vs a heavy AD champion in lane.
Next i would buy and upgrade boots- I recommend getting Magic Resist boots or Armor boots. This depends on enemy team comp and should be brought on that basis.
Your 4th item should be Frozen heart. You can buy this as it gives you CDR and armor to protect you from enemy auto attacks when you go on to the enemy carries.
Your final item should be Thornmail. This item is really good vs enemy champions that have AD and auto attack alot. 100 armor makes this item a must have.
Updated item, Strong on nautilus if you use it in team fights.

Situational Items

Iceborn Gauntlet can be brought instead of Frozen heart. It gives you more damage when using your Abilities on enemies.
If you have won lane, you can buy this item to get yourself snowballing harder. This item will give you more damage in team fights.
These items can be brought vs Splitpush comps- you can use these if you want to group and push a separate wave at the same time

Building Nautilus is pretty simple. Your first item is going to be either Sunfire Cape or Spirit Visage. I recommend getting the one that you need to survive the laning phase. Sunfire Cape is the one I choose most of the time because of the passive that will help me to push lanes and farm. Spirit Visage is good against AP laners or champions with sustain. Your second item is going to be Boots. You can get either Ninja Tabi or Mercury Treads. The boots you purchase depend on what you need in the game. For example you may need Ninja Tabi if you’re against a full AD or poke team. Your third item will be the other first item. If you picked up Sunfire Cape first, then you are going to get Spirit Visage next. Your fourth item shall be Frozen Heart followed by Thornmail. These two items are great against teams with lots of AD damage. They will make you incredibly tanky and hard to kill. Your final item is going to be Gargoyle Stoneplate. The passive on this item is really strong so remember to use it in team fights.

VS

Akali

Medium

This is a medium matchup because early game akali is useless, but when she hits 6 she can kill you- or do lots of damage. This all depends on what build Akali is going, If she is going ap or tank you need to put her behind early.

VS

Camille

Hard

Camille can outplay you and make you miss your Q. I would play safe early game and wait until your 6 before going for a full trade. If the Camille gets to aggressive you can Auto her and activate your shield and root her in place.

VS

Darius

Hard

Darius is a hard matchup because of his passive and he can counter you really easily with his E. If he goes all in on you, you need to shield as soon as possible and run. At level 6 you have more of a chance of killing him with ganks. I suggest freezing this near your tower, or sacrificing your tower for farm and xp.

VS

Fiora

Medium

This is a medium matchup because she can kill you easily early game. You should try to freeze it and wait for her to become to aggressive and then go and fight her. She Can Cancel your abilties and passive with her W.

VS

Gnar

Easy

Gnar is easy to kill because he is really squishy and when you have a few levels behind you can kill him. Unfortunatly a good Gnar will auto attack you every time you go to last hit. So you shouldn't be to aggressive early game. Fight him when he is not in mega!

VS

Irelia

Medium

This is a medium matchup because she is a fighter but also a tank. She can counter you because of her E. In this matchup i would freeze and ward up and be prepared to get camped. You can win this lane if you just play safe and farm it out.

VS

Jayce

Hard

Jayce is a hard matchup because he will keep auto attacking you and poking you. In this matchup i would recommend sacrificing CS for XP and Health.

VS

Kled

Medium

This is a medium matchup because he has his very unique passive That can be deadly if you are fighting him. When he is in ranged form and uses his Q. If he lands this on you, you should run way from it.

VS

Poppy

Easy

Poppy is easy because she is squishy early game. In this matchup i would harass as much as possible early game. Her W counters your Q, so keep that in mind when fighting her

VS

Renekton

Medium

Renekton is a Medium matchup because this lane is equal and can be won both ways. Whenver Renekton comes to fight you, i suggest attacking him and using your shield to protect you from the damage. Remember to AA then E so you can get another Auto from the reset.

VS

Rumble

Easy

Rumble is very squishy early game and you can take him down if you land some CC. Nautilus is good vs Him because he can shield all the damage rumble does.

VS

Shen

Easy

This is a easy matchup because you can counter him so hard! However, you should be aware of where you fight in lane because of his E he can taunt you and the minion damage will stack up hard. His W also counters your Passive autos, so beware of that. You can kill him easy if his W is down and minions go on him.

VS

Sion

Medium

Dodge his E's and this lane will be easy. If he is level 6 and you are getting a friendly gank. Stand in front behind him so he cannot Ult away.

VS

Tryndamere

Medium

This is a medium matchup because he can sustain alot early and do lots of critical damage. I would suggest trying to freeze this lane because he will chase you down if you push to far up.

VS

Yasuo

Easy

Easy match up because you can completely destroy him easy with your passive. Whenever he comes near you, root him in place.

Laning Phase + Early Game Combos Back to Top

The early game is very important for Nautilus, if he doesn't have a good early game then he will not be as strong late game as he should be. Nautilus does alot of damage early game because of his abilities and his passive. The passive damage is really good, and the root itself can attract alot of minion damage to the enemies. Minion auto attacks make up a big part of Nautilus'' early damage.

Level 1 you want to last hit the first 3 minions, if you cannot do it then use your E and get them. You want to hit level 2 first because the enemy with the level advantage may be aggressive and you will lost lane pressure if you don't get it first. They will also come forward to hit you if they are a level higher.

Once you are level 4 you should go for trades using the Sirst or Second combo suggested Below. You should rinse and repeat this combo throughout the game as this will give you surprising damage.

At level 6 you should go for a kill, you could possibly kill Toplane, but it isn't always possible. If you do decide to kill top, you will need to poke them down first- using Combo's 1 and 2. Then going for Combo 3 if you're going for a kill. Combo 3 should be used if you're getting a gank as well.

If you cannot kill the enemy Toplaner at level 6, you should push the wave and then roam Midlane and use combo 3 to try and kill them.

Combos:

1. AA , W , (R)AA , E, AA

2. Q , AA , W , (R)AA , E , AA

3. R , Q , AA , W , (R)AA , E , AA , Q

Team fighting Back to Top

When you're team fighting as Nautilus you want to use your passive on as many enemy champions as possible. You should also try to get as many people as you can effected by your ultimate.

You have Four possible choices to use your ultimate

  1. Ult the enemy Carry
This will be the most obvious one, you should ult the enemy Carry- either ADC or midlane depending on who is doing the best and will do the most damage to your team.
  2. Ult the enemy frontline
If your carries are being killed by the enemy frontline, help them out and ult the person who is trying to kill then, this will probably be another tank or a fighter.
  3. Ult the enemy support
If you focus the enemy support, who will be sat next to the carries, then you may knock up both carries and the enemy support. This is a good way of getting to the carries because they will not be able have anyone to protect them
  4. Ult the Furthest away champion
If you ult the champion that is furthest away then your ultimate will go *hopefully* through the whole enemy team knocking them all up and finally the desired champion. Note this isn't always effective but is the best way to get as many knock ups as possible.

You have a huge hit box on your Q. You should be the one to start fights by either Ulting somebody who is out of position or Qing somebody who is out of position. You need your team to follow up so make sure you are all on the same page.

Pros and Cons Back to Top

Pros
  1. His passive can root the whole enemy team
  2. Courage of the Colossus is very strong on Nautilus
  3. Courage of the Colossus can be activated on his Q, Auto attack and ultimate
  4. Can solo win team fights by shutting down enemy champions
  5. Lots of Health and Armor makes you hard to kill
  6. Can push or freeze the wave easily
  7. Can push and clear waves quickly

Cons

  1. Can be kited easy vs a good ADC
  2. Needs team to follow up after he goes in
  3. Relies on team to do damage when you are being focused
  4. Not able to win 1v1 as easy
  5. Needs time to scale
  6. hard to last hit under tower
  7. Pushes waves even if you don't want to (W)
