Summoner Spells Back to Top

ALWAYS FLASH IGNITE.

Flash sets up for kills, and of course can save your life. Plus with the cougar jump you can make some huge distance away from a dangerous situation, or close the gap from your target.
Basically, SO YOU CAN MAKE THE PLAYS.

Ignite to be agressive. For those spears that get them chip health, as well as when you go in for your cougar combo!
KILL SECURED.

Skill Distribution

Almost every game, level one start trap. Place them in invade spot openings like the river bushes and jungle openings etc.
 trap placement half size.jpg
Get a point in spear or heal level 2, doesn't matter. Usually get heal if you're already taking some damage and don't want to waste pots so early, and get spear if you're fine and want to harass. Remember not to spam spears and focus on farming, you'll just waste mana because they don't hurt as much until your Q reaches about level 3. You can also use spears to help last hit the siege minions. Level 3 you want to get the 3rd spell you don't have yet (spear or heal.) Level 4 on I say max spear, then heal, and lastly trap. Of course level your ult (cougar form) whenever you can.

tl;dr
Max Q-E-W and put points into R when possible.

COUGAR COMBO!

Your cougar form changes your Q , W, and E skills. Your Q is an EXECUTION MOVE. It does additional damage based on how much the target's health is missing. Hence, we use the Q (Takedown) last. Your W (Pounce) makes Nidalee jump forward WHERE SHE IS FACING. At first it is hard to get used getting her to jump where you want, atleast for me. Learning to control her pounce exactly how you want is essential to mastering Nidalee. This skill can be used to jump over several walls. I will include a picture of this as well as trap spots on a later date. Lastly, your E (Swipe) is an "aoe slash" where she claws everything thing directly infront of her. They buffed the AP scaling on it, so it does quite a ton of damage. Now what is the "cougar combo" you ask?  W-E-Q. This can be done in quick succession to kill an enemy. Pounce on the enemy, swipe their face off, then execute with takedown. Tons of damage (call me Phreak ;D) capitalizing damage from all spells. I used to be a scrub and use Q first tbh.
Use this when solo'ing a buff to take it rather quickly. You can even do this to steal/secure Baron/Dragon. --> NOTE THAT YOU ARE SQUISHY SO YOU WOULD HAVE TO BE ABLE TO ESCAPE WITH FLASH OR POUNCE TO LIVE. But if you die after a successful steal, it's ok, always worth.

tl;dr
W-E-Q. Pounce on them, Swipe, and Takedown for maximum damage.

Destroy Wards with Bushwacks

If you place a trap on top of a enemy ward, drag a melee minion onto the trap. This will reveal the ward and you can destroy it for free gold :D

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

A ward for early ganks/their wraiths , pots for sustain and faerie for regen. I usually buy 4 reds and 2 blues.
Doran Rings are a viable start now since they're only 400 G. Get with 2 pots. Hell even a ward if you fancy.

Core Items

Rush tear then go for Rabadons. After you want to get Void Staff or finish Archangels.
    Typical full build.
    vs. AD mid

Situational Items

G.A is always good, I usually take it. Rylais for some damage, slow, and health. Athene's if you don't get tear. Don't get both.
    Other items to think about.

YOUR ROLE AS MIDALEE

Early Game (Lvls.1-6)

Before creeps spawn, you want to trap places for invade and scout around. Leash for your jungler as usual and then head to lane. Now your early game isn't that fearsome, so focus on farming pretty much until 6. As I said above, "Use the rule, AA them whenever they go for a cs IF YOU WILL NOT MISS ANY CS."  Especially if they are melee. Champs like 3_64.png11_64.png14_64.png20_64.png28_64.png31_64.png38_64.png55_64.png68_64.png79_64.png80_64.png82_64.png84_64.png105_64.png121_64.png131_64.png They can't hurt you back (for the most part) so take advantage of your range and bully them away from CS and even lane! Now level 6. Getting level 6 is like turning 18 IRL LOL. You get cougar form, unlocking you ton of burst. Keeping in mind the opponent's abilities and summoner spells, items, and enemy jungler location, you can go cougar combo (W-E-Q) them and kill them quite fast if they are around 50% HP + an ignite.

Mid Game (Lvls.7-13)

Here is where the fun really starts. With cougar form, you can roam around the map quite easily with W (pounce.) Make ganks to help other lanes! This is a problem I see with many Nidalee players and Mid players in general. Shove the lane and gank top or bottom. WHEN GANKING BOT DON'T GO THROUGH RIVER. Go around the dragon pit in the jungle. It's usually warded at dragon so you'll end up wasting your time going that way. Even if they see you from tri-bush, you can usually still pull off a gank. Remember to coordinate with your team. Ask where wards are, if they can follow up, etc. Start off with a spear from afar, then go in and cougar combo if you can. Now if your mid lane opponent is constantly pushing mid and has amazing wave clear like 34_64.png 25_64.png then roaming may be difficult, so just farm up at lane and if chances arise kill them, take tower, AND NOW YOU CAN ROAM! :D
BIG TIP: Do wraiths whenever you can, it greatly helps your CS. Steal the enemies wraiths as well IF IT IS SAFE.

Late Game (Lvls.14-18)

Your role late game turns into a support. You poke when you can with spears and heal your team. In a teamfight, don't go cougar form and jump into the enemy team. Peel for your ADC, heal them and KEEP THEM ALIVE. Keep throwing spears and healing. If someone on the enemy team is out of position alone, spear them and execute them only if you are sure you can get them and get out unharmed. Any one person of your team getting caught will throw the game so trap everywhere and help ward. Vision will help the team so much, so ward EVERYWHERE. Especially by Baron and Dragon. Unless they form a human barricade around the monsters, stealing Baron/Dragon is quite easy so just watch their health.

VS

Aatrox

Medium

Melee champ, so use the AA harassing technique I always talk about.

"AA them whenever they go for a cs IF YOU WILL NOT MISS ANY CS."
Don't try to duel him unless he's really low and his passive is down.

VS

Ahri

Medium

Not easy not hard.

Just make sure to be careful going all in, she can get away easily with her ult. Her skills are easy to hit you since you are going to be in her face so don't dive because charm is OP. Try to go on her when her skills are on CD so she can't do anything when you pounce :)  Otherwise, play typical Nid and spear her to death >:D if you're just not hitting dem spears, farm lane and roam.

VS

Akali

Hard

You want to get her early game because you have almost no chance late game. Pre 6 you want to AA harass like I always say. Zone her and CS as much as you can. Get help from your jungler to shut her down. Once you both hit 6, shit gets intense. Let her waste her kicks and then go in!

When she puts down her circle you can do 3 things against this:
1) Place a trap inside it and throw a random spear in it as well.
2) Cougar combo inside it, the swipe and pounce will make a specific noise if they hit someone.
3) Get a vision ward and make that crap worthless :'D

Once late game comes around, when she jumps on you there is not much else you can do but heal and jump away as cougar. The only way you will kill her is from hitting dem spears.

VS

Anivia

Medium

Watch out for stun. At 6 you can't really go all in at her if unless she has no mana because she will lay ult on to you. Just focus on farming and hitting her with spears. Your W (Pounce)  can jump over her wall if you position yourself correctly as with all other walls.  If you get her on passive, lay down a trap directly on her egg. Proceed to cougar combo ^-^

VS

Annie

Hard

Quite hard matchup.

She can kill you instantly with a full combo, so watch out for the swirls indicating her stun is up. WATCH FOR THE SWIRLS.

Screen Shot 2013-06-25 at 6.09.03 PM.png

VS

Brand

Medium

Pillars hurt :x

Just do your best to dodge his skillshots and not get combo'd by him.
Once you get Cougar form, it gets easy to dodge with W (Pounce)

VS

Cassiopeia

Hard

OUCH THE HARASS.

She will bully you for days. This is a hard one. Even with heal it is hard to sustain through it all. Even at 6, if you try to go in on her she will just stun you dead in her tracks and hurt you more.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

Semi-hard matchup.

Melee champ, so use the AA harassing technique I always talk about.
"AA them whenever they go for a cs IF YOU WILL NOT MISS ANY CS."

Dodge his ruptures and you should be fine. Try to zone him, and after 6 keep him Tiny Baby Chogath ^_^

baby_cho_gath_by_nyaruko-d5ta1hf.png

VS

Diana

Medium

Melee champ, so use the AA harassing technique I always talk about.

"AA them whenever they go for a cs IF YOU WILL NOT MISS ANY CS."

Dodging her crescent isn't as hard as some people think, you can just walk towards her and you will be at the center of it :D I know, sounds easier than done, but you can get the hang of it after a couple matches. She is an all in champion, so care because her shield DOES DAMAGE SON, and also refreshes the shield -.- OP.
Spear poke a bit then go in when it's safe :)

VS

Evelynn

Easy

Melee champ, so use the AA harassing technique I always talk about.

"AA them whenever they go for a cs IF YOU WILL NOT MISS ANY CS."
THAT IS IF YOU CAN SEE HER!

Lay traps EVERYWHERE. It is also a good idea to buy a pink ward first back onwards.
Other than that, play Nidalee as usual.

VS

Ezreal

Medium

AP or AD, they will try to harass you alot. Similar to Ahri minus the charm, it's good to go in while his abilities are on cooldown. If he is Blue Ez then weeeell GG. LOL JK. You just have to poke better than him.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Easy

Pretty easy matchup.

When things get to level 6, stuff can go different directions. Ward around the walls and bushes, he will try to ult in, fear + drain. If you can survive, pounce and or flash out. Other than his ult combo, he isn't really something to be scared of. He's actually really squishy.

VS

Fiora

Easy

Bad champion, EZ.

Lol jk, no offence to Fiora players ;P

Honestly though, normal Nid poke etc will win easily. Now if her skills could parry a spear then the story would be different.

VS

Fizz

Hard

OMG ONE OF THE HARDEST MATCHUPS.

Good Fizz players will hop on their staff every time you try to spear them in lane. Stand at these places on the side (insert pic here) and they will suspect them less. If they throw fish on you, you are most likely dead, because he will dash through you and burst you down. Even at turret, they will dive, and you will die.

VS

Galio

Medium

Since he's designed to build MR you won't be doing much damage until you buy your Sorcerer's Boots and Void Staff. Nevertheless, just play as normal and at 6 be careful of his ult for two reasons: you shouldn't dive because he'll keep you there, and be wary of ganks.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

Very annoying champion. He will parrrley you and with crit will quickly make you a dead cat. I suggest building some armor. A Seeker's Armguard should do the trick.

VS

Garen

Easy

Melee champ, so use the AA harassing technique I always talk about.

"AA them whenever they go for a cs IF YOU WILL NOT MISS ANY CS."

Don't let his passive heal him. AA him and keep bullying him. His ult is a stronger version of your Q so make sure not to stay around him at low health.

VS

Gragas

Medium

Melee champ, so use the AA harassing technique I always talk about.

"AA them whenever they go for a cs IF YOU WILL NOT MISS ANY CS."

Try to dodge his barrels, they hurt quite a bit. He's a big target ;D So spear him alot. When you go try to cougar combo, watch out for his body slam.

VS

Heimerdinger

Medium

Never had this matchup so this is just my thoughts on how it would go.

Heim is a hard pusher with his turrets, and Nidalee doesn't have good wave clear until 6. Heim would put a lot of pressure pushing and have easy poke with his missiles. This match sounds quite difficult, you would need to poke him and have his turrets gone before you go in. Jungler ganks would be the helpful deciding factor if you will dominate the lane.

VS

Janna

Easy

AP Janna mid just falls off so bad. Yes, she does have some burst early, but not so much that you can't deal with it.

Ezpz. Just watch out for ganks really, she sets them up really well.

VS

Jayce

Medium

He has some crazy poke too, LIKE YO BROTHER MAN. He's stronger than you throughout most the game. It is really a skill matchup, WHO CAN POKE BETTER.

VS

Karma

Easy

She is very bursty, but not as annoying as Karma pre-rework with the heal. You pretty much win at 6+ UNLESS you fuck up or the enemy jungler ganks.

VS

Karthus

Medium

Good Karthus is annoying. Dodge his harass from his Qs and when you go in to cougar combo, make sure he will die. You don't want to stay in his Defile too long. Heal and Seraph's Embrace will help you survive his ultimates :3

VS

Kassadin

Hard

Super strong throughout the entire game. He will harass you easily pre 6 and then go all in and kill you with his combo. Try not to waste W (Pounce) as you need it to escape those situations. Have your jungler gank and shut him down and things will be easier.
