Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png Flash is the best Summoner to close Gaps after Ulting when the enemy tries to escape you. I think it's kinda Self-explanatory so I won't point out all of it's benefits.

11.png Smite is obviously used as Jungle Nocturne. Also really Self-explanatory.

3.png Exhaust is good as Jungle Nocturne, when you are forced to Split-Push a lot in the Lategame, or you play Cinderhulk Nocturne, so you can help your Team out more. As midlane Nocturne it is great vs. High Burst midlaner like Syndra or Zed.

14.png Ignite is your Go-To option in terms of midlane Nocturne. It's great to secure kills and gives pressure. Also it's healing reduction can be really good against certain champs like Swain.

1.png Cleanse is a good option against enemies with exhaust, so you can get your Full Damage Nocturne burst through as midlaner. It can also be good vs a lot of Hard CC enemies like Lissandra.

12.png Essential for toplane Nocturne to make TP-Plays and, on the one hand, be able to get back into the game after falling behind, such as Snowballing your lead.

Which Different combinations you should take are explained below, in the custom Sections.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

Keystone Masteries:

Strength of the Ages

Only good when jungling in combination with Cinderhulk, or as a less experienced Nocturne Player.

Thunderlord's Decree

Best Keystone as Burst Nocturne, either with Warrior in the jungle or in the midlane.

Stormraider's Surge

Same as Thunderlord's Decree but more focused on mobility and Catch-up potential.

Fervor of Battle

Great for Bloodrazor jungle Nocturne or toplane Nocturne.

Other Masteries:

Ferocity Tree

Tier 1/2/3/4 should always be the same as above.

If going for Fervor of Battle, take Battering Blows in Tier 5.

Cunning Tree

You will never take only 4 Tiers in the Cunning Tree. If you get Thunderlord's or Stormraider's go:
Tier 1: Savagery
Tier 2: Assassin
Tier 3: Merciless
Tier 4: Dangerous Game
Tier 5: Precision

Resolve Tree:

Tier 1/2/3 will always be the same as above.

In Tier 4 you can swap out Perseverance for Insight as toplane Nocturne.

In Tier 5 you can swap out Legendary Guardian for Swiftness against CC heavy Teams.

Hint:

Different Skill orders are explained below. Here I'll just write down what every Ability can do.

Also different combos and how to use the Spells are written below.

Passive: Umbra Blade

Range: -     Costs: -     Cooldown: 10 seconds

Nocturne's basic attack is periodically enhanced, dealing (+ 120% AD) physical damage to his target and surrounding enemies, and healing himself for 10/18/26 (+ 15% AP) per enemy hit.

Basic attacks reduce Umbra Blades's Cooldown by 1 second.

Q: Duskbringer

Range: 1200     Costs: 60/65/70/75/80 Mana     Cooldown: 10 seconds

Nocturne throws a shadow blade that deals 60/105/150/195/240 (+ 75% bonus AD) physical damage and leaves a Dusk Trail for 5 seconds. Enemy champions hit also leave a Dusk Trail. While on the trail, Nocturne can move through units and gains 15/20/25/30/35% Movement Speed and 15/25/35/45/55 Attack Damage.

W: Shroud of Darkness

Range: -     Costs: 50 Mana     Cooldown: 20/18/16/14/12 seconds

Passive:

Nocturne gains 20/25/30/35/40% Attack Speed.

Active:

Nocturne creates a magical barrier for 1.5 seconds, which blocks the next enemy ability. If an ability is blocked by the shield, Nocturne's passive Attack Speed bonus doubles for 5 seconds.

E: Unspeakable Horror

Range: 425     Costs: 60/65/70/75/80 Mana     Cooldown: 15/14/13/12/11 seconds

Passive:

Nocturne gains 335 Movement Speed toward terrified enemies.

Active:

Nocturne plants a nightmare into his target's mind, dealing 80/125/170/215/260 (+ 100% AP) magic damage over 2 seconds. If Nocturne stays within 465 range of the target for the full duration, the target becomes terrified for 1/1.25/1.5/1.75/2 second(s).

R: Paranoia

Range: 2500/3250/4000     Costs: 100 Mana     Cooldown: 150/125/100 seconds

Nocturne reduces the sight radius of all enemy champions and removes their ally vision for 4 seconds. While Paranoia is active, Nocturne can launch himself at an enemy champion, dealing 150/250/350 (+ 120% bonus AD) physical damage.

VS

Ahri

Medium

Midlane

Before 6:

Go for the normal Skill Order of your Abilities, Don't try to cheese her, else she will easily Charme you into Turret when you have no Spellshield.

When you have Spellshield it can get difficult to Spellshield between her W shooting on you, but when you do it you can go on her. Don't chase too long, else she will kite you with Q Movement speed. Try not to fight her.

After 6:

Bait her Ultimate and then go All-In in between. She is easily killed and you can Turnaround with 300 HP vs. a full life Ahri as long as she has her Spells on Cooldown. Don't Ult before she uses her stacks, else she will just back off and engage you again when she has her Ultimate up and you not.

VS

Amumu

Easy

Jungle

Amumu will try to farm until level 6 and you do the same. Just give him a Farm battle, you should win it. After Level 6 Try to anticipate where he will gank (mostly bot) and countergank him.

VS

Anivia

Medium

Midlane

Before 6:

Play safe, farm safe. If she moves to you to poke you wait until she Qs you and Spellshield when she reactivates it to stun you. She will now often move to close to you to E you, because she thinks you are stunned. Q her and use your E on her and chase her down. Let her push, else this doesn't work.

After 6:

If she's in the middle of the lane or closer to your turret Hardengage her. She is veery Squishy, forcing her egg should be easy. Because you are AD, you should be able to kill her in egg form because of your consistent damage.

VS

Azir

Hard

Midlane

Farm safe and try to All-In at level 6, before you will get poked down. Spellshield his Ultimate and it will go through you without knocking you back.

VS

Darius

Easy

Toplane

Really Snowbally matchup, strongly in favor of you but can still go into his favor if you play it wrong. After level 3 you are stronger when you have all your Spells go Q > W > E. Spellshield his Q when you fight and then you can easily kill him. You are also stronger level 1, because of your Q movespeed he can't hit empowered Q, just care when he starts W. Basically just don't fuck up level 2.

VS

Diana

Easy

Midlane

You are stronger than her at every level, try to fight her as much as possible. As soon as she gets Zhonya's go roaming.

VS

Ekko

Medium

Midlane

Spellshield his second Q when he tries to poke you. He will often be surprised that his 3 proc doesn't go through without it. After 6 fight him, don't scare away, you got more consistent damage, as long as you keep him in your E range. When he rushes Zhonya's roam.

Toplane

Same as midlane, just rush a Black Cleaver instead or Trinity Force, else you will never be able to fight him.

VS

Elise

Easy

Jungle

Elise is a really Squishy jungler, rush level 6 and try to countergank her. You will always be able to 1v1 her and you are way scarier.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Medium

Jungle

Differs between Easy when you know what to do and Hard when he knows what to do. Medium when both know what to do.

He will fear you when he moves up to you, anticipate it with your Spellshield. He will also try to get 6 as fast as possible, but you are faster, take advantage of that.

VS

Fizz

Medium

Midlane - Easy

Fight him a lot before 6. After 6 you can use your Spellshield to stop his Ult from attaching to you, but you can't Spellshield his Damage once it's attached to you.

Toplane - Medium

Same as midlane, unless that your Spellshield gets more useless. Toplane Fizz is tankier and more based on damage over time. If he goes tanky first get Black Cleaver, if he goes Damage get Trinity Force.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

Midlane:

Kill him

Toplane:

Look Midlane

VS

Gragas

Medium

Jungle:

He will outgank you early. Try not to tilt and outscale him. After 6 pressure lanes he brought ahead and counter everything he did before.

VS

Irelia

Medium

Toplane

If you manage to Spellshield her E this matchup is easy as fuck. In all honesty my reactions are too slow to do it, but I have a really bad reaction time, especially for my Elo. If you can't it's still ok, try to anticipate it and if you can't back off.

VS

Jax

Medium

Toplane

Use your Spellshield half a second after Jax activates his E and he can't stun you anymore. Now fight him, you win in longer trades.

VS

Karthus

Easy

Midlane

He is squishy and has now mobility. The key to winning this is to constantly fight him. After 6 he should be a freekill.

VS

Kassadin

Easy

Midlane

He has no mobility earlygame and is melee. It should be easy as fuck to bully him out of this lane. Spellshield his Q everytime he tries to poke and All-In him when you see his E isn't up.

VS

Katarina

Medium

Midlane

Skill based matchup. If you get your E through you win, if not she does. She can start with a Cloth Armor and 4 Pots, so she will Outtrade you after some time. Exhaust is a possible Summoner Spell but works better lategame and against low Elo Katarinas (Diamond 5 and below).

VS

Kayle

Hard

Midlane + Toplane

You need to fight her after level 3 when you have all your Skills. Spellshield her Q and fear her, this matchup is easier top than mid cause you can chase her longer. After 6 you can still fight, just don't waste anything when she Ults and fear her. In Teamfights try to kill targets she won't expect or are far away from her.

VS

Kha'Zix

Medium

Jungle

You can fight him when you Spellshield his Q, but not before you didn't complete your Jungle Item. You are both farm concentrated junglers but you are faster.

VS

Kindred

Hard

Jungle

!!! There was a bug where you would die in Kindreds Ult when you Spellshield, I'm not sure if it's still existing. If not this matchup is medium difficulty. !!!

Ward your Jungle early so she can't invade you. If you can Spellshield her E you should be able to fight her easily, just walk up to her and don't be scared.

VS

LeBlanc

Hard

Midlane

Spellshield her W and not her Q. If she maxes Q it is possible to take a second point in W to equal out her W Cooldown with your W Cooldown. Care for her E when you Spellshield her W, else she can easily kill you when you are snared. Try to stay in your minions and roam after 6.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

Jungle

Lee Sin will gank a lot early but jungle less. You won't have the same pressure but you should be able to get stronger than him just farming.

VS

Lissandra

Hard

Midlane + Toplane

Sucks to be you. Try to farm safely, if you Spellshield her Snare you can fight her Pre-6. After Level 6 you need to anticipate her Ultimate you can win, if not you are dead.

VS

Lulu

Hard

Midlane

Hard, she will kite you and you have no chance of getting to her because of Slow and Movespeed. You can't All-In her at 6 cause of her Ult and Lategame she will be a pain in the ass for you.

Toplane

Medium - Easy, longer lane = more chase time. If you get her feared you can easily kill her because she is so Squishy. After 6 Snowball your advantage with roaming. Lategame she's still a pain in the ass.

VS

Maokai

Medium

Toplane

Get a Black Cleaver first Item. You are stronger than him in long fights, just don't let him poke you down and get away with it.

VS

Nasus

Easy

Toplane

You need to anticipate his Slow, which is easy as fuck in my opinion. If you do that just kill him.

VS

Nidalee

Medium

Jungle

She has more pressure than you early and is probably the only champ in the game who can outfarm you after your first clear. If you get to fight her, you are stronger, after Spellshielding her Q you can do nothing to you anymore.

VS

Olaf

Easy

Toplane

Many Olaf's will greed on you level 1 because they think you are out of position. They think that until they realize that no melee champ can fight Nocturne level 1 and then they are dead. FeelsBadMan

VS

Orianna

Hard

Midlane

Probably one of Nocturne's hardest matchups, luckily isn't played much anymore. Nocturne midlane gets countered by consistent poke like Orianna's Low Cooldown Q and her Empowered auto attacks.

VS

Poppy

Medium

Toplane

Get a Black Cleaver first Item. Fight her as much as you can, you are a lot stronger than her, just don't be near walls, unless you have to reaction time to Spellshield it, which i don't have.

VS

Rek'Sai

Medium

Jungle

Rek'Sai will outjungle you early and can be annoying if she gets ahead. With redsmite and Bloodrazor completed you outduel her, go Black Cleaver second.

VS

Rengar

Medium

Jungle

Used to be a better version of Nocturne, now Nocturne is a bit ahead I think. Level 6 your Ult still has the same Cooldown as his, make use of it, since later his is shorter. After Red Smite + your Phage Item you are stronger than him.

VS

Riven

Medium

Toplane

Extremely snowbally matchup can go to either side depended on who gets the first kill.

VS

Ryze

Hard

Toplane + Midlane

Honestly Fuck this shit. You can All-In him at 6 if he has no flash anymore and you Spellshield his first W.

VS

Shaco

Medium

Jungle

Keep your jungle warded early on so he can't invade you. After level 4 you are stronger than him. Never Overstay somewhere else he will pick you up and get freekills.

VS

Sion

Easy

Toplane

Stay in the first Toplane bush, he will walk in because he wants to Q you from the bush so you don't see it. When he's there Q him and kill him. Get Black Cleaver first.

VS

Swain

Medium

Toplane + Midlane

You are weaker than him before level 6, but when you can force his flash and Spellshield his Snare, you should be able to easily kill after after level 6.

VS

Syndra

Easy

Midlane

Take Exhaust vs her. You should be able to fight her easily when you Spellshield her Stun. Save your Exhaust for level 6, you win a fight when you exhaust her Ultimate.

VS

Taliyah

Easy

Useless Champ

VS

Talon

Medium

Midlane

Talon has no Burst Spell you can Spellshield. He has a lot Spells which have double effects like is W and his R. You win vs. him before level 6, but lose after.

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy

Midlane

Spellshield his Stun and kill him. You have Killpressure on him at every level. When he uses his W to farm, walk up, Q him and kill him.

VS

Veigar

Medium

Midlane

I just trust my friend here, haven't played this matchup yet. Add "degrapher" on EUW for more Information. Apparently it's really Snowbally and a Skill based matchup, since you still get stunned after your Ultimate reaches the enemy when you get CCed between.

VS

Vel'Koz

Easy

Midlane

1) Fight him
2) Kill him
3) ???
4) Profit

VS

Viktor

Medium

Midlane

If you get to force his Flash with help of your jungler of something like that, you can All-In him at 6 since he is really immobile. Just Spellshield his W and walk through it.

VS

Vladimir

Medium

Midlane + Toplane

Heavily Skill based matchup, the better player wins. When he has a Full "Blood" bar, let him walk up to you and when he is in Q range then Spellshield. works 5/7 times.

VS

Xerath

Easy

Midlane

Spellshield his Stun and you should be fine. He is really easy to kill for you, immobile to death.

VS

Yasuo

Easy

Toplane + Midlane

Care level 1 + 2 he will outtrade you here. Afterwards you are stronger and can easily fight him. When he engages you Spellshield his third Q immediately after he E's you and you win. Always take Fervor of Battle.

VS

Zed

Medium

Midlane

This matchup is heavily Snowbally where you are better before level 6 and he is a bit better after level 6.

Jungle Nocturne: Smite + Flash/Exhaust Back to Top

Despite being the most standard way of playing Nocturne, this has probably the most customizations. I'll order the different ways of jungling him after the different Jungle Enchantments you can use.

Viability of the builds:

Bloodrazor > Warrior > Cinderhulk

Skill Order:

Easy

For New Nocturnes, if you can't go the Full Clear (look Playstyle: Jungle) you need to skill E third, else you have it too late to react to the enemy jungler. Also in the beginning it's easier to play with E max second.

Medium

If you can full clear the Jungle without backing, but still aren't experienced on Nocturne take Q level 3 and still max E second.

Hard

W max second only gets worth it, when you know how to AA reset with your Spellshield (look: Combos). That shit is way harder than you think.

1) Bloodrazor Nocturne

Normal Items: 1419.png3071.png3748.png3143.png3102.png

Situational Items: 3078.png3053.png3156.png3065.png3026.png3025.png

Buy Order:

3071.png or 3078.png second Item?
Since the Trinity buffs you now have to decide between Black Cleaver or Trinity Force as a second Item. Don't take both of them, because you are losing the second Phage effect, which is wasted gold.

You want to take Black Cleaver vs. more tanky Team compositions and Trinity Force vs. more Squishy Team compositions.

3078.png Trinity Force Route:

If you are taking Trinity Force as second Item you want to get a Titanic Hydra third. Titanic Hydra + Trinity Force proc can delete a Squishy in a really short time.

Now you need to decide what you want. Taking Trinity Force I highly recommend also taking a Sterak's Gage for the stronger proc. Having no Resistances now, taking Guardians Angel is a great idea to cover both Armor and Magic Resist, while also granting a great Passive. In which order you take them is different in every game.

Friendly Reminder: Sterak's Gage and Maw of Malmortius share the same unique passive, so don't buy both of them.

3071.png Black Cleaver Route:

Black Cleaver is less expensive than Trinity Force and focuses more on being able to kill Tanks and be Tanky yourself. Following the Item up with a Titanic Hydra is possible, even though I'd recommend going Tanky now in most cases.

Getting a Randuin's Omen is the best way to utilize the Playstyle of Black Cleaver Nocturne. Having a slow, combined with Phage and your Q let's you easily follow the enemy adc (You should focus) until you Snare and freekill him, without dieing to it's auto attacks.

Getting some MR you can decide between Banshee's Veil, probably the best MR item every invented for Nocturne, a Maw of Malmortius, if you feel you aren't doing enough damage, or a Spirit Visage (Overrated as fuck).

Don't go Sterak's Gage without a Sheen Item.

3025.png The "You are Full AD so I'll fuck you up" Route:

After getting Black Cleaver, or if you need it early, after Bloodrazor buy Iceborn Gauntlet. Let it follow up by a Randuin's Omen and round it with a Thornmail. Congratulations your enemies will Ragequit. If you didn't get to buy a Black Cleaver earlier you can now choose between a Black Cleaver or a Sterak's Gage. You feel like you don't need more Movespeed with Randuin's Omen + Iceborn Gauntlets? Get Sterak's. The enemies are kinda tanky? Get Black Cleaver.

Runes:

3x Attack Speed Quintessence
9x Attack Damage Marks
9x Armor Seals
9x Magic Resist @ Level 18

Keystone Masteries:

1) Strength of the Ages

Pros:

- Healthier Jungle Clear
- Tankier Lategame
- Good Synergy with Titanic Hydra and Trinity Force

Cons:

- Less damage Lategame
- No Scaling after 300 Stacks

It is possible to swap out Legendary Guardian for Swiftness, depended on the Enemy Team composition.

2) Fervor of Battle

Pros:

- Easy stacking with 1 rotation
- More damage in longer fights
- Good synergy with W passive
- Some Penetration vs. Tanks
- Great 1v1 dueling

Cons:

- Worse Jungle clear
- Easier to invade

Take Fervor if you are more experienced with Nocturne and can handle the weaker earlygame, while you should take Strength of the Ages are inexperienced Nocturne player.

2) Warrior Nocturne

Normal Items: 1412.png3074.png3142.png3143.png3102.png

Situational Items: 3156.png3071.png3026.png3065.png3053.png

Buy Order:

After rushing Warrior you are aiming to get a Tiamat. Tiamat is a great Item to add extra burst on Nocturne. Further it helps you clearing Jungle camps faster. DO NOT upgrade it to Ravenous Hydra. Just having the Active is completely enough for Nocturne this early.

Getting some Armor Penetration now helps Nocturne to Oneshot Squishies. You are really Squishy yourself with this build, so try to stay aside from fights and concentrate on Splitpushing and catching the enemy Team when they are out of position.

Since you don't need more damage from now on, focus on getting a bit tanky. If you just need to survive after going in, I'd go Sterak's Gage + Guardian Angel, but both are useless after the first engage. If that's enough for your Team then go for it, If you need to survive longer Randuin's Omen + Banshees Veil would be my choice. Banshees has a great Synergy with Nocturnes Spellshield because you can save it now until you need it and not waste it in the beginning like you normally would have to do, because they try to focus you down.

Runes:

3x Attack Speed Quintessence
9x Attack Damage Marks
9x Armor Seals
9x Magic Resist @ level 18 Glyphs

Keystone Masteries

1) Strength of the Ages

Pros:

- Healthier Jungle Clear
- Tankier Lategame
- Helps to balance out the Squishy early phase

Cons:

- Less damage Lategame
- No Scaling after 300 Stacks

It is possible to swap out Legendary Guardian for Swiftness, depended on the Enemy Team composition.

2) Thunderlord's Decree

Pros:

- Higher Burst
- Bonus AoE damage
- Bonus magic damage

Cons:

- Only 1 time damage boost
- no defensive stats

3) Stormraider's Surge

Pros:

- Higher Burst compared to Strength of the Ages, cause 2 offensive trees
- Easy possibility to chase down enemies
- Chance to escape after going in higher

Cons:

- Less Burst compared to Thunderlord's Decree
- No damage over time given
- Only good when you know you get ahead

Take Strength of the Ages when you want to stay safe early and you aren't confident in your ability to survive without the bonus Health. Take Thunderlord's if you want to bring your Team ahead and you can play around your squishyness until lategame. Take Stormraider's if you know what you are doing against a Squishy Team and you know you neither need bonus damage nor the Tankyness.

3) Cinderhulk Nocturne

Normal Items: 1413.png3071.png3143.png3102.png3075.png

Situational Items: 3083.png3065.png3022.png3025.png3053.png3110.png3748.png

Buy Order:

You really want to get a Black Cleaver after your Cinderhulk. Never build Trinity after Cinderhulk, you are playing a TANK, which means you shouldn't focus on getting gold and instead give it to your Carries. You could go Titanic Hydra now, but remember: You are a tank and 3.5k gold are a lot. instead let your Team carry and just Tank the shit out of them. Which Items you buy Depends on the enemy Team composition. Titanic Hydra is a viable Last Item if you feel like you miss damage.

Runes:

3x Attack Speed Quintessence
9x Attack Damage Marks
9x Armor Seals
9x Magic Resist @ Level 18 Glyphs

Keystone Masteries

Pros:

- Healthier Jungle Clear
- Tankier Lategame
- Good Synergy with Cinderhulk

Cons:

- Less damage Lategame
- No Scaling after 300 Stacks

It is possible to swap out Legendary Guardian for Swiftness, depended on the Enemy Team composition.

Smite + Flash or Smite + Exhaust?

90% of the time you want to take Smite + Flash because of the bonus Gapcloser. The only real Reason to take Exhaust is, when the enemy Team has a Splitpush Threat you have to go against in the Lategame like Zed/Jax or Irelia.

Mid Nocturne: Flash + Ignite/Exhaust/Cleanse Back to Top

I personally got to play Nocturne through the midlane. Currently Nocturne midlane is in a pretty bad spot, even though it's still viable, especially in lower Elo.

Viability of the builds:

Raw Damage > Crit

Skill Oder:

Normal

This is your normal Skill order in midlane. W max second is a MUST to block as much as possible.

Cheese

You take this in easy/melee matchups where you wanna cheese early. Against unprepared enemies it's pretty easy to get a Cheese kill until level 3.

1) Raw Damage Nocturne

Normal Items: 3074.png3142.png3071.png3156.png3147.png

Situational Items: 3026.png3036.png3033.png3102.png3078.png3053.png3153.png

Buy Order:

As your first Item you want to rush Tiamat. It helps you pushing the wave, adds more burst and allows you to take faster Jungle camps in between the waves. You want to top it of with a Youmuus Ghostblade. Youmuus gives your Spells and auto attacks a lot more damage and allows you to Oneshot enemies.

Nocturne now can make good use out of a lot Items. Take either:

1) Black Cleaver to be able to kill Tanks better and use your Ultimate more often
2) Trinity for extra Burst and more Splitpush strength
3) Blade of the ruined Kind to catch up to enemies with high mobility
4) Maw or Malmortius if the enemies have strong AP Threats.

Afterwards you can either get more damage with buying a Duskblade or another Item from the list, or get Tanky with Guardian Angel, Sterak's Gage or Banshees Veil. I'd recommend Banshees Veil, it's  really useful for fights so you can save your Spellshield.

3025.png The "You are Full AD so I'll fuck you up" Route:

Yep that also works for Midlane Nocturne, probably even better than in the Jungle. You get your Tiamat/Youmuus Powerspike and rush a Iceborn Gauntlets. Afterwards you get either Sterak's Gage or more Armor with a Randuin's Omen. Now you take the item you didn't took before. This Build will make you deal a lot damage, while also being tanky as hell to a Full AD Team. Upgrade your Tiamat to a Titanic Hydra with this build.

Runes:

3x Attack Damage Quintessence
9x Attack Damage Marks
9x Magic Resist Glyphs / 9x Magic Resist @ Level 18 Glyphs
9x Health per Level Seals / 9x Armor Seals

Take left Route vs. AP opponents and right Route vs. AD opponents.

Keystone Masteries:

1) Thunderlord's Decree

Pros:

- Higher Burst
- Bonus AoE damage
- Bonus magic damage
- Better Trading in Lane

Cons:

- - -

2) Stormraider's Surge

Pros:

- Good vs. mobile enemies so you don't need BotrK
- Good vs. Soft Peel, because Slows won't stop you
- Better chance to Survive after engage in Teamfights

Cons:

- Less Burst compared to Thunderlord's Decree
- Useless when behind

When you have to face adcs like Ezreal or maybe Lucian I'd recommend taking Stormraider's Surge as long, as you either are in a lane you don't need Thunderlord's Decree in to win, or  you won't win anyways.

2) Crit Nocturne

Normal Items: 3074.png3142.png3087.png3031.png3046.png

Situational Items:3033.png3036.png3078.png3153.png

Buy Order:

In the Crit Nocturne build you also aim on getting Tiamat + Youmuus first, It's your best possible early build. Afterwards You try to Stack Crit. Statikk Shiv is your Go-To Item now, it grants you some Attack Speed, Crit and most important it's passive. Nocturne does not need more Burst damage to Oneshot enemies than Tiamat and Youmuus, so getting some AoE damage is always a good Solution.

Of course Crit, especially Statikk Shiv works best with an Infinity Edge to maximize it's passive damage Output.

Now round your build up with a Phantom Dancer to make sure you will Crit.

Since getting Phantom Dancer + Statikk Shiv grants a lot movement speed and Nocturne isn't as reliable as other Champs on movement speed, you can sell Boots now in favor of Trinity Force.

If you either need a Last Whisper vs. Tanks, or a BotrK vs. mobile carries, then go for it.

Runes:

3x Attack Damage Quintessence
9x Attack Damage Marks
6x Cooldown Reduction @ Level 18 Glyphs
3x Magic Resist Glyphs / 3x Magic Resist @ Level 18 Glyphs
9x Health per Level Seals / 9x Armor Seals

Take left Route vs. AP opponents and right Route vs. AD opponents.

In the Crit Build, CDR Runes are highly suggested, because you don't get much CDR until the late-lategame.

Keystone Masteries:

1) Thunderlord's Decree

Pros:

- Higher Burst
- Bonus AoE damage
- Bonus magic damage
- Better Trading in Lane

Cons:

- - -

2) Stormraider's Surge

Pros:

- Good vs. mobile enemies so you don't need BotrK
- Good vs. Soft Peel, because Slows won't stop you
- Better chance to Survive after engage in Teamfights

Cons:

- Less Burst compared to Thunderlord's Decree
- Useless when behind

When you have to face adcs like Ezreal or maybe Lucian I'd recommend taking Stormraider's Surge as long, as you either are in a lane you don't need Thunderlord's Decree in to win, or  you won't win anyways.

Ignite or Exhaust or Cleanse?

Usually you take Ignite 90% of the time. Exhaust can be good against Champions like Syndra with an equal strong level 6 All-In. Cleanse is better when you know the enemy will have Exhaust, or Hard-CC like Lissandra.

Top Nocturne: Teleport + Flash Back to Top

Especially with the Trinity Force Changes, Nocturne Toplane is probably the strongest Position you can play Nocturne on currently.

Skill Order

in Toplane 95% of the time you want to take this Skill Order. It allows you to trade in the best ways possible.

1) Nocturne

(There is only 1 good way to play Toplane Nocturne right now, but to stick to the formatting ...)

Normal Items: 3078.png3748.png3053.png3026.png3153.png

Situational Items:3046.png3071.png3022.png3143.png3102.png

Buy Order:

Since the Trinity Force Buffs, Nocturne Toplane got really, really strong. Rush it in this Order: Phage > Sheen

If the enemy Team is really Tanky you can go Black Cleaver instead of it.

Afterwards top of your Damage with a Titanic Hydra.

Sterak's Gage works just too good with Trinity Force to not build it. Also It's a great Anti-Burst Item.

Now you need some Resistances, I recommend to Guardian's Angel now, It gives Armor AND Magic Resist, while also granting a great Passive.

For your Last Item, you always need to Check what the enemy Team has. I usually take BotrK, because of it's Splitpush Power and ability to catch mobile enemies. Are more Tanky Version would be Frozen Mallet, So you can Slow the Enemy after you've Ulted on him. It also boosts your Titanic Hydra Damage. If you need more Armor or Magic Resist, Banshees Veil, or Randuin's Omen are your way to go.

Runes:

3x Attack Damage Quintessence
9x Attack Damage Marks
9x Armor Seals / 9x Armor @ Level 18 Seals
9x Magic Resist @ Level Glyphs / 9x Magic Resist Glyphs

Left Route is for playing vs. an AD opponent, Right vs. AP

Keystone Masteries

1) Fervor of Battle

Pros:

- Good Dueling in longer fights
- Works great with Attack Speed of Trinity + W

Cons:

- - -

Playstyle: Jungle Back to Top

Since Nocturne is not a gank jungler, at least pre-6, concentrate on getting your Jungle Clear through. The first time you can clear the whole jungle as Nocturne without backing while staying pretty healthy. You always want to start Golems for the CC buff. Afterwards clear every camp in the order you move to them.

(Krugs > Red > Chickens > Wolves > Blue > Gromp)

After this you can decide to take the Scuttle crab or just go back before.

Your first back should contain a Hunters Talisman and other components for your Jungle Item.

Go to your Krugs again and clear the 4 Small camps. then do the Scuttle Crab and back again. You should only have 1/2 camps left to level 6 now, get it and then look for opportunities to gank. Ask your laners for Summoner Spells.
If you see no opportunity just continue farming. Nocturne is a Carry Jungler so you should get a good amount CS and get strong by yourself.

After finishing your Red Smite you are a pretty strong Duelist.

Always look for opportunities to countergank, you will win almost every time.

Bloodrazor:

In later Stages of the game your Job will be to take out the enemy Carry. Just care to Spellshield the Support trying to get you away from him and you should easily be able to kill him. Just take care that once you are in the fight you won't get out easily anymore. You got a lot Burst Damage AND consistent damage.

Also you can concentrate on Splitpushing, No one should be able to 1v1 you and instead or a Teleport you have your Ultimate to get to the fight if needed.

Warrior:

Warrior is stronger early - midgame but weaker lategame, you need to get objectives out of catches you can make. When it comes to Teamfights focus on killing their carries, but you are not engaging. Wait until some CC is out, or a mobility Spell from a carry then go All-In on him.

Cinderhulk:

Your job is to engage and be a pain in the ass for the enemy Carry. You are likely not to kill him fast, but you are one hell of a Frontline. You try to keep as much enemies focused on you as possible, so your Team can kill them.

Playstyle: Mid Back to Top

Before level 6:

You don't want to push with Nocturne before your first back, but sadly because of your passive you are always pushing. Many laners though don't take advantage of that and counterpush you. Often you can cheese kills from them underestimating your damage, just only fight them if you think you can force pressure of any kind on them, else they will get armor the first back and your chances to kill them lower.

After Level 6:

After your first back you should have a Tiamat. You will always push the lane now, take Jungle Camps and think about your abilities to kill the enemy laner. Your Roaming isn't that strong until you are level 11, since your Ult range isn't that big.

Always keep your lane warded, if you see the jungler coming you can often kill him out of surprise because they will always be Squishy and Low-Leveled.

You get your biggest Powerspike in the game the moment you have Tiamat + Youmuu's Ghostblade + Level 11, which should happen at the same time as long as you don't get heavily fed or fall behind.

From now on every more gold you get will make you weaker in comparison to the other Champs, so use your advantage and bring your Team ahead now. Roam, push force Turrets, get Objectives. Try to Splitpush with Ultimate, no one should be able to fight you with the items you have.

In the Lategame you have to wait until ALL CC is out from the enemy Team. If that's happening you can Ult on the enemy Carry and try to kill as much enemies as possible. Just remember that with Tiamat and your Passive you deal more damage to the target you don't attack.

It will always be worth if you manage to trade yourself for the enemy carry.

Playstyle: Top Back to Top

Earlygame:

You win 95% of the Toplane matchups. Most enemy toplane won't respect your early damage. Because they are melee and you have your Q Movement speed you can chase them down easily. I often stay in the first bush to the enemies toplane and wait until they come. From then I Q them and chase them down with Q bonus damage + Fervor of battle.

Really often you are able to kill your lane opponent in the first 3 levels. No one will be able to face your damage.

Especially after getting Phage you should be able to bully everyone else because of your extra movement speed.

After Level 6:

Toplane Nocturne doesn't have the possibilities to roam like midlane Nocturne. You want to farm up until you get your 2 Items Powerspike with Trinity Force/Black Cleaver and Titanic Hydra, which is really expensive but really strong. Now you can start Teamfighting and Oneshot Squishies with the Quick Kill Combo explained below.

Toplane Nocturne is great for Splitpushing since you have TP and your Ultimate, which means it doesn't matter where you TP to, as long as the ward/minion is in Ult range to the fight. That also makes him great for roaming to Botlane. You move botlane after backing and Ult there, force 1-2 kills and TP toplane so you don't miss too much waves.

Combos Back to Top

1) Tips and Tricks to the Spells itself

Passive: Umbra Blade

- AoE works around you and not the target you are attacking
- Can work as an animation cancel with your W

Q: Duskbringer

- Does not Oneshot Creep waves, but is great to support it
- Follows invisible units so you always know where they are when you hit them

W: Shroud of Darkness

- When blocking a Spell with it while having Banshees Veil both Spellshield's go away so don't activate them at the   same time
- Can be used as an Animation cancel (more infos below)

E: Unspeakable Horror

- After using it the range you have to stay into is slightly bigger than the Cast range
- Still fears through Zhonya's if you began to use it before your enemy used Zhonya's.

R: Paranoia

- It has a bit Cooldown after activating it before you can reactivate it, so care with targets who are likely to fall       out of vision
- Stops Shen from Ulting, even if he sees his target to Ult
- Good Counter vs. Twisted Fate Ultimate because he is blind and can't know where to Ult exactly
- Does not follow Teleport and Recall

2) One-Shot Combo

Mostly used as Warrior or midlane Nocturne to Oneshot the enemies Squishies.

1) Use your Ultimate on the Target you want to kill.
2) When reaching the Target, but you are still in your Ultimate, use you Q and hit the target,
3) Use your Tiamat/Ravenous Hydra instantly after.
4) Now "land" on him, Auto Attack him 1 time.
5) He should be dead now, else chase him with your Q Movespeed/Tiamat and E.

Nice to know:

Nocturne does almost as much AoE damage as Single Target Damage, which means it is possible to Oneshot a complete Team at the same time when they stay together.

3) Quick Kill Combo (W + Passive)

Really Difficult to use in the right way, so I've made a Video.

http://plays.tv/s/Kpkf3dQtDbaM

By the way, the person speaking isn't me.

To Understand why it works:

You Turn around yourself while doing your Passive.
You Turn around yourself while doing your W, but about 10 times faster.
So using your W while Auto Attacking with your Passive makes your Auto Attack 10 times faster.
That means the next Auto Attack comes out way faster too.

You only see that in the Eternum Nocturne Skin, but it works with every Skin.

1) Auto Attack with your passive.
2) Use W to cancel the Passive animation
3) Auto Attack again.

It is possible to use Tiamat/Ravenous Hydra between step 2 and 3 to get the Tiamat damage off while being only a bot slower than without.
