Summoner Spells Back to Top

11.png and 4.png when jungling to help secure buffs and other objectives. No other options really.

14.png or 12.png top lane. Both work, though I think 12.png is a better pick because you can use it to help secure drag with your Jungler. I typically don't need the extra lane pressure that 14.png provides, but this is more personal preference.

4.png and 3.png when supporting, this is pretty standard right now. You can also go 14.png to counter heals if you go against a sustain lane like 16_64.png or 37_64.png.

Masteries Back to Top

6/6/18 is honestly insanely good, love how much you can get out of this mastery page.

Ferocity - 6

Sorcery will help you much more than Fury. Sorcery lets your E and Ult pack a little bit more of a punch, which is important since you aren't going to be building much (if any) damage in the jungle.

Cunning - 6

Savagery makes it easier for you to clear. You don't really need Wanderer because we're already taking 3 MS Quints. Keeping blue / red buffs (and your opponents!) will benefit you while you're counter-jungling and ganking, much more than biscuits will. You don't need them anyway, Nunu has great sustain on his own.

Resolve - 18

Unyielding is a great stat-booster since you're building full tank. Tough skin lets you stay in the jungle longer. It's a toss up between Veteran's Scars and Runic Armor, if you feel like you want your Q to heal for more take Runic Armor. Insight is great because it reduces the cooldown of your flash (for flash-ults) and your smite. Legendary Guardian is good because it gives you bonus resistance when you're in the middle of their team. Grasp of the Undying is really good right now and helps you make better trades.

Fairly Self-Explanatory in my opinion, but in case it's not, I'll give you a quick run-down.

In lane, you want to max E so that you slow more and do more damage. That's the point of Nunu.

2 Early Points in Q will allow you to sustain most harass you get in lane. It will also help you secure early drags with your Jungler. You don't need to max it because your damage is more important.

Unless you're support, you won't really need your W early on in the game. You shouldn't be auto attacking your opponent much in lane anyway, so the steroid is rather useless. It's a good second max however because once you start grouping, blood boiling your ADC will work wonders in team fights.

If you're Jungling, take this skill order:
ZQVwAvq.png
You want to start Q or your clear will be miserable. You want to grab your W earlier than you do top to help your laners catch up, and to help you counter-jungle easier.

If you're Supporting, take this skill order:
tTHuUXg.png
2 early points in W will help your ADC trade with the opponent ADC. Grabbing consume at level 5 will help you take an early drag with your Jungler.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    Typical Top start.
Use the ward to scout around when you invade.

Core Items

Typical Top Build - ROA => Frozen Heart => Merc Treads => Iceborn => Abyssal => Glory / Banshees
Cinderhulk just isn't as good right now, but if you still want to go it, here's the build. - Cinderhulk (Trackers) => Frozen Heart / Locket => Iceborn => Whatever you didn't get between FH and Locket => Banshee's
You pretty much always want to get this elixir.
Runic echoes is a really good item right now, gives you movement speed and a bit of AP for damage and healing. In my opinion better than cinderhulk for Nunu.

VS

Akali

Easy

People still play Akali?

VS

Azir

Hard

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

VS

Darius

Medium

Almost as easy as Vladimir.

Your Ice Blast is a longer range than his pull, which is the only way he will be able to do damage to you. Similar to Jax, spam Ice Blast and force him to early back. You will typically own the lane before 10 minutes.

-Rework-

Rework makes him a little bit harder to lane against (since he now has a heal) but you play this lane the same. He's a little more dangerous but he's actually not that hard for a match-up for Nunu.

VS

Diana

Easy

VS

Fiora

Medium

Play it just like Irelia, Jax, and Darius.

VS

Fizz

Medium

Has insane amounts of mobility and has two ways to escape your ult, a way to dodge Ice Blast, and a way to interrupt your ult.

VS

Garen

Hard

This champ is fucking broken right now.

VS

Gnar

Medium

You can still spam Ice Blast, but this is only assuming that the Gnar isn't paying attention enough to keep his distance. He has poke that out-ranges yours and it also slows. His Mega-Gnar form has two ways to cancel your ult and can quickly turn a fight around. Don't under-estimate him, take smart poke chances with your Ice Blast and make sure that you ward the river.

VS

Gragas

Easy

VS

Hecarim

Medium

Hecarim has the spamminess to combat yours. His all-ins are dangerous and he will win any extended trade. Thankfully, a lot of Hecarims do not like building defensive for some reason. Even if he can trade back, your snowballs still hurt. Keep your distance, consume when you can, and don't let yourself get pushed under tower. Because of his speed-up, setting up a gank for your Jungler will be difficult.

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy

Eat his turrets.

VS

Irelia

Easy

Irelia plays a lot like Jax, except she has a bit of sustain.

Zone her off just like you would a Jax. Don't attempt to dive her, her stun and ult can turn a fight fairly quickly and are great ways to set up for a gank.

VS

Jax

Easy

Jax doesn't have the early cooldowns to trade back with you. Spamming Ice Blast will push him out of lane typically before 5 minutes if he tries to farm. Careful for his stun, it's a great way for him to set up a gank for his jungler.

VS

Jayce

Medium

VS

Karthus

Easy

Squishy and can't out-damage your sustain.

VS

Lulu

Medium

Laning phase will be a breeze.

I only put this at medium because she has two ways to interrupt your ult, and can bait you into getting knocked up and turned on.

VS

Malphite

Easy

His only way to trade is his Q, and it costs him a lot of mana early game. His only other trick is an attack speed slow and his knock up. You obviously don't need attack speed to trade, so your only concern should be that he can easily cancel your ult with his own, and his ult makes it quite easy to set up for his Jungler to gank you.

VS

Mordekaiser

Medium

Hope that your Ice Blast can get through his dumb-ass passive. He has no CC to speak of and has no way to counter-act CC. Careful for his burst, his full combo hurts. His W will allow him to easily push the wave, and then go farm a jungle camp. If this starts to happen, you can take the time that he's gone farming the jungle to duo drag with your Jungler.

VS

Sion

Medium

Gets really tanky and annoying, but he can't really kill you unless he gets ahead. Try not to let him bait your iceblast.png with his deathscaressfull.png

VS

Udyr

Hard

OP as hell. If he's not banned (he should be), do not try to counter jungle. Ward and be careful for counter-ganks.

VS

Vi

Hard

She typically builds tanky, has two ways to interrupt your ult, and has mobility to get away / catch up to you if you're spamming ice blast at her. On top of that, her 1V1 potential is absolutely nasty. Her clear speed is rather good as well, careful for counter-ganks.

VS

Vladimir

Easy

Insanely easy lane. Your Ice Blast will be off cooldown at around the same time that he gets to use his Q, and your Ice Blast does more damage than his Q heals him for. He has no hard CC and his only way to escape a gank is to pool out of it, which also hurts him. You out damage him by far throughout laning phase. Be careful late game, regardless if he was behind or not he can still do damage to your carries.

VS

Volibear

Hard

Fuck this champion. Literally THE hardest matchup for top-lane Nunu. Your snowballs will do basically nothing as he charges at you and gropes you. Once he's done that, he'll slow you (which somehow is more annoying than Ice Blast spam), and to top it all off, he'll use his "execute" (a dumbass high-damage ability) to do 1/4 of your health. Rinse and repeat.

This is the only lane that I would suggest either

1) Maxing Q and starting Flask + Health Pots
2) Switching with your Mid Laner if he wants to

Why play Nunu Top? Back to Top

Nunu Top takes advantage of the fact that your AP Ratio on your E is just ridiculous. It takes minimal effort to do stupid amounts of damage and to heal yourself completely, and if you know how to make use of his passive, he might as well be a resourceless champion. There aren't many matchups that are disadvantages for him.
