Summoner Spells Back to Top

6.png

Is the summoner's that you always run when playing Olaf, I don't like  4.png  much because you don't really need it and ghost works a lot better with Olaf.In a teamfight you won't flash in front of the ennemy's adc and burst him down but rather run to him and chase. You don't take flash mostly because of your ultimate, since you can dodge any cc it's not really usefull, you can just run to where you want to go. When splitpushing ghost is a lot more usefull and when diving you need of mobility rather than a quick long-ranged dash. It in my opinion outclasses 4.png in lane as well because it's couldown is pretty short and it is more usefull when you all-in.  The only use that I would have for 4.pngis to be able to Flash+E/Q or to counter champs like 34.png,59.pngor 163.png34.png but I don't feel like it's actually needed. You can take an other offensive summoners' instead of 12.pngbut it's really risky. And I mainly use 6.pngbecause you can only go OVERBOARD when using 6.png.

14.png
That's what you usally pick at top if you want to bully a weak opponent, it allows you to stomp your opponent and get the First Blood pretty easily at level 1/3. You don't have tp so take care of always pushing the wave after killing your opponent/he went back. When used with 12.pngit allows you to keep pressure on the map while bullying your opponent on your lane a lot easier.  12.png+14.pngwould be my main choice against high sustaining champions like 48.png,36.pngor even 8.png. It is still really good ( and probably the best summoner's spell ) if you're trying to snowball your lane  easilly. You can take 14.pngand3.png If you are playing support Olaf.

3.png
That's Ivory's ( an Olaf player that I'll talk about later in this guide ) standard summoner's, it's for me the best of this game ( as good as flash ) because it allows you to 1 vs 1 anyone and win any trade. Use it at the last moment to bait your opponent when you are low hp. Consider picking it when your support has ignite or against a strong melee champion ( like Yasuo or Riven, exhaust them when they ult ). It's pretty usefull when it's time for teamfights since you can literally delete your enemy team's carries and they aren't able to do anything. ( Dont forget that it reduces armor/mr too! ) This summoner is especially good against opponents that have a predictable burst.

12.png
It is a really good summoners that can be picked for every match-up, if you use it you can clear a jungle camp lvl 1 ( OUTDATED ), help your team and it gives you a better map control. . Most of the time I use 12.png6.png because its a all around duo that works well against anything, I usually pick my summoners based on how I want to play and against/with who I am.

3.png/14.png12.pngIt is a totally viable choice, but you should build move speed items like3742.pngor 3800.png because you may lack of mobility.

With the last bruiser items, 14.png+12.pngIs a pretty good choice atm, you can get plenty of mobility and ghost isn't as much needed as it used to be ( especially thx to 3742.png ). Duo jungle or taking a camp is possible, so you can have that early advantage but still use ignite and snowball really easily. I usually use that settup against strong laners, that can possibly win trades. But dont be mistaken, you always need  ghost against few opponents, those that have pretty good escape/mobility.

I don't like tp much anymore since the nerfs, so right now I feel like 14.png+6.pngis the way to go, tp still is pretty good though.

I'll explain which summoner's you should take more in-depth in the match-up's notes ( not done yet ) but it's really about how you feel you should play your game.

S8 ->  Right now I either get 12.png+6.png or 12.png4.png If I need flash ( against Jarven for exemple) or if I am going for the poke build.

New Runes Back to Top

Go for the second build/page against a weak laner or when playing midlane, it's used best when you can completely crush your opponent only by poking. Play the lane safe, try to keep farming as well as poking, you can try E+flash or Q+E flash combo to finish them off. Or just simply build up a lead, and maybe go mid, go help the jungler counter jungle, tp bot, or simply set up a gank for your jungler. Don't all-in much with this style, just focus on having a lead and playing it safe.

The first one is for the flagship build of this guide.

You always max Q when using the trinity build or when jungling, it is your strenght and it's really important. Your axes are the essence of your gameplay, you use them to poke, trade, dive and farm.

Don't use them if there is a high risk of not hitting your opponent, it's not Ezreal's Q but more like Diana's.

You have to be carefull to not waste your mana and to not push the lane when you don't want to. Usually when you use them to poke you want to last hit at the same time or hit the ennemy's toplaner when he tries to last hit ( or even both, for advanced players ). It's your main damage source, when you trade you have to throw it right behind your opponent that you can pick it up and use it again. It does more damage than your AA so use it even if you couldn't auto attack before  ( exept if really low mana, you got a red buff, or the Sheen passive ).

You can as well max your E first, when using the full-tank build or the bruiser build. It works well when you are facing a squichy champion that doesn't have a lot of sustain. Or if you just want to heavily poke and endlessly bully your opponent out of the lane while not taking a lot of risks. If you aren't experienced with Olaf at all, I advise you to try the max E gameplay first.

I'll talk about abilities more in-depth in the Laning section. About how you use them in lane, when to max each spell and more. Somtimes in lane I don't even max W, take a point in it if you need to sustain yourself or you feel like you'll have to do a fight in which you'll have to attack a lot, always pick it if you're gonna get ganked and you want to fight back. This skill is in part why Olaf is so strong early on, when low hp you can use it and win against almost anything, try baiting your opponents into thinking that they can take you on, and fight them back with your W, be confident. ( you'll know your potential quite well over time )

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

tanky and safe starter, for easy lane and low risk early. Insane dps after 1st back since you have all the cdr and tankyness you need, no doran's blade so it might not work out. Againt easy and not mobile match-up. Good when using the Black Cleaver or Tank cdr build. You'll start with that if you know that you won't do a big melee all-in anytime soon and rather back after farming safely and get your core items earlier. ( forget about this one, will be back later with more testings )
Usual starter if you are using ignite, gives sustain and a lot of damage, only use it if you are confident, Doran blade gives you more dueling potential. Don't really do that starter anymore, just like the crystal rubi and the doran blade, will be back with more testing later, but for now don't go for this one since I cannot tell you how great it can be.
BEST ITEM IN THE GAME, BUY ONE, TWO, THREE ( just two is k actually ) IT DOESN'T MATTER, WITH THOSE URE A GOD, A VIKING, REKT THEM ALL Pick with almost all playstyles as the basic starter, with the titanic build a Doran shield can be better. It kills me but I don't do that starter anymore with the S8 trinity build, I can do it with some other build. Since the build now doesn't use lifesteal much and dont optimise it well, don't buy doran blades anymore
You can start with 5 pots and a ward when you use ignite or exhaust if you are against a weak opponent. What I do when I have to go mid. I'll talk about that more in author notes. ( OBSOLETE )
S 6 trinity starter. I'm stil trying out few things, but this will most likely be my new starter. ->NOT THAT GOOD, CAN WORK BUT YOU'RE KINDA WEAK Nevermind, my S8 starter, go for this one with the trinity build
BUY THAT IF YOURE A FAGGOT, NO RISKS NEEDED, FARM AND SUSTAIN, FOLLOW GANKS AND PUNISH RISKS, USE IT WITH TP AND THE BC/TANK CDR BUILD Gives a lot of sustain and allows you to poke a lot, you can buy this against a ranged with no sustain, but that deals a lot of damage, like kennen or teemo. Advised when playing mid or against midlane ap champs. ( max Q only )

Core Items

    S8 trinity build
Usual Late-game trinity build. STANDARD BUILD, I USE THIS BUILD 75% of the time, that's what this guide is mainly about. OLD BUILD
Jungle build these are your core items, then build whatever like the bc build
New core early core build go for all ins whenever you can when you have these items
FAGGOT MIDGAME BC BUILD, NO RISKS NEEDED THEN BUILD WHATEVER AS LONG AS YOU'RE A PAIN IN THE ASS FOR THE ENNEMIES
S8 trinity build That's your core items for the midgame You are a god, go for picks, keep applying pressure everywhere, try not to do actual teamfights, and finish the game as fast as possible
    want an offensive item ?
you need at least 20% when maxing Q. Later in the game 30% is a must have, 40% is even better. I dont usually get more than 25% most of the time though. When I go for trinity build and snowball the game. Game ends before I can purchase more.
If you need an early mr item. I usually upgrade them later in the game and take hp early instead.
Spirit Visage and Maltimortus are the best mr item, but if you need another one you can build the others listed here
you absolutely need movement speed buff/debuff items, these ones buff yours
these do slow your targets and allow you to stick to them easily
Need hp ? I usually build one of these early, for like my 1st or 2nd item
Random Jaggernaut build. All of the Jaggernaut items are litteraly godlike on Olaf, you can build all of them, depending on the situation.
BERSERKER BUILD-> BE A REAL ONE AND JUST GO, NEVER STOP FIGHTING, YOU WON'T EVER DIE, HIt, SMASH, ALL THE TIME, DON'T BITCH OUT, NEVER BE SCARED
TITANIC BUILD-> YOU'RE A MONSTER, BE ANNOYING, IN LANE SIT BACK AND SPAM E, WITH ALONG OF YOUR MASTERY 7 EMOTE, IN TEAMFGHT STAY IN FRONT AND PEAL FOR YOUR CARRIES MOSTLY
TANK CDR BUILD, KINDA RANDOM BUT IT WORKS WELL AGAINST HEAVY AD CHAMPS LIKE RIVEN, YASUO, TRYNDA, YOU CAN BUILD MALMORTIUS, DEAD'S MAN PLATE OR FROZEN MALLET IF NEEDED

Situational Items

This is the only item that you can always build, always buy it, one or two if needed.
When you use the trinity build and snowball your lane it's a good item to burst down your opponent even faster. Buy it against a weak mu. ( OBSOLETE )
These are the items that i never build on Olaf, you can build them if you want, but i don't recommand it.If you build Iceborn Gauntlet, only build it with Black Cleaver, otherwise this item is pretty bad on Olaf.
Always buy pots, mana and hp, wards aren't that much important when laning ( 1 vs 2 is a piece of cake ) but don't forget to upgrade your trinket and to always have a pink ward on the map.
I really love that item, i buy it more and more, it's the same as the doran's blade-> it gives everything Olaf needs, I'll talk about it in autor notes. ( THE NEW ONE ISNT AS GOOD AS THE OLD, ITS DURATION NO LONGER RESETS, BUT ITS STILL PRETTY GOOD ) .
Same as Shyv but when you are facing a tank.
Let me talk about what works well with Olaf and what doesn't.

What stats does he needs? Which of them scale well with this champion?

Olaf is a melee AD champion and is usually built as tank/bruiser. He has one cc wich is a slow that can be spammed if used properly, a light movement speed boost ( since the last patch I assume ) and an immunity to CCs.

Since he has no gap-closer and always has to make his way to his ennemies by running to them the movement speed stat is pretty much always needed. It helps you when you want to pick up an axe, get closer to E an ennemy or when you try to catch up ennemies that dashed/flashed away from you.

I usually tend to build at least 2 movespeed items/items that affect movement. You NEEED it, really. Even if you can perma slow someone, don't get hit by CCs, and have ghost. It's not enough. Why ? Because you got no dash and you can't do anything but run to your ennemies to fight them. Otherwise, you would get kited easily and bursted down, which means game-over for you. You also need to be close enough to your target so you can hit them with the axe, slows will help with that as well as move speed.

When playing Olaf you have to go OVERBOARD, if you aren't fast enough it won't work. You won't get the same feeling and scare your opponents as u're supposed to do. An Olaf that is slow and has no way to hugely CC the ennemy team's carries won't be considered as a threat. And being a huge threat for the ennemy team is one of your main goal.

Why would it matter ? I can just build tanky/cdr and spam my abilities, I'll kill their carry every fight.

It may seems like it doesn't matter, but it does. I feel like it actually does ease things up. If you don't apply massive CCs or/& aren't really fast the adc who will be facing you won't be scared. And it's a big problem. You have to scare him, to make him feel anxious, as a rengar player would. Because if he's scared, he'll be tilting and not play as well as he would if he was in his normal state. If a mad viking is chasing him down at incredible speed while he is too slow to hit & run properly your task will be easier. Also with actual meta with annoying shields and speed boots, you need them more than ever.

It can help you in a lot of situations.

The first that comes to mind is this one: You are fighting someone in the jungle. You used your axe, missed it or it went too far, what are you supposed to ? Auto ur opponent and pray that someone will be coming to help ? If you have some mobility it might save your life and allow you to pick up this decisive axe.

2nd one: You are chasing someone and your team is following you, ready to support you in trying to catch someone, unfortunately, you missed your axe/he is too fast ( let's say he got shielded by karma and he's a damn ekko player ). If you have no mobility related item you won't be able to do anything but go back.

As I said, it's not THAT much inevitably needed, but it does make your life easier, a lot. There are games where you won't need mobility that much, games where the ennemy team is full of slow and static champs, where your team has so much ms boosts and huge CCs that you aren't even needed. But these days, you know, this game is full of "playmaker", mobile champs and much more crap so it doesn't happen much. And going OVERBOARD is so much of a pleasant feeling :D .

As explained earlier in the Runes section, he also needs of cdr. It allows him to have his ult up whenever he needs of it and to use his abilities as much as possible. He may look like  a champ that auto attacks a lot but he actually deals more dmg using his abilities, he still auto attacks a lot. His E and Q can be reset easily and have high base dmg.  That's why a tanky/cdr build ( with or without trinity ) is usually the best way to build this champion.

My only goal when building cdr is to have >23% when my Q is maxed or if I'm maxing it. It is even more important if I'm using armor penetration.

With any max Q build  3024.png3067.png3133.png3057.png.  is usualy what I build right after my1055.png ( x 2 if need ) and my first core item ( either 3010.png or 3044.png ), when maxing E I'll be building items like 3052.png3211.png1011.png3077.png first, which give more overall strength )

Why is this so important ? It's because cdr allows you to use your axes at their maximum potential and operate HUGE all-ins which will most of the time result in a stomping victory for you and that's what the main gameplay of this guide is about. If you got no cdr, you can E, Q and AA to death ur opponent, which will most of the time result in a victorious trade, but you cant dive as you would with a maxed Q gameplay, you can't all-in as easily either.

That's why you have to be very cautious when going overboard with a maxed E gameplay, since your dps is very variable, you only have burst. Of course it's different if the opponent actually trades back in melee range against you, you still deal a lot because your items are more stats-based. But you won't use the fervor of battle mastery and your opponent can actually escape pretty easily, that's why with this playstyle you rather stand back and poke when possible, if your opponent tries to fight you get it back at him and most of the time you should win it, but don't go out of your way to try and get him, that's for  a max Q playstyle.

TL;DR You are better at trading without cdr and when maxing E, but when maxing Q and abusing of cdr you are a looooooot better at all-ins.

That was for lanning, later on you need even more cdr that you can spam your abilities as much as possible, since most of your dmg come for them ( both q and e!).  I  build around 30% cdr most of the time at the end of the game. but only 23% is really needed early to midgame.

There is an other stat that scales pretty well with Olaf, it is HP. Hp is the best early/mid game stat and that's where you want to shine as Olaf ( I mean to be the best at duelling, that's when you trade and stomp your opponent, at least when using my playstyle ). That's why I usually build HP Items first, like 1055.png3044.png ,3067.pngor3010.png
Your E costs HP, so building  hp helps you when using it and you already get passive resistance stats from your ultimate's passive. You may as well want to stack hp when building items like 3748.pngor3053.png

When using the trinity build my core items already give me tons of hp ( 3078.png1055.png& outdated->3067.png , now its another 1055.png) so I build hp later on, for my 3rd or 4th item.

Let's take a look at when I have these two items 3078.png+3742.png: ( or even 3800.png+3083.png3022.png3748.png ,  3071.png and 3800.png  and so on )

Add it 3047.png , a few 1055.pngand there you go: I can juste dive in and do whatever I want, none can stop me. I can tank turrets, high dmg and true dmg.  You dont want to be the most tanky, but the strongest. You want to win any duel, to dive and bully your opponent as much as possible. With these items as a core build you have to stmp the  game. You have enough mobility, damage and tankyness to do that, do the right choices and win the game by yourself.

What should you build ?

A lot of items work really well on Olaf, still, few of them synergise too much with Olaf for not taking in consideration to buy them.

Boots

I only build 3047.png, ONLY. Why ? Because they are the only boots that you have uses for. And they are op :^) . You can still buy 3009.png but they only provide move speed, which can still be usefull, but tabis are the best. I build swiftness when I dont need tabis at all or when using an other build, with only BC per example providing move speed and that I need some extra. Or just when my build isn't really fast-paced. When maxing E it's pretty good since you can poke in lane easier.

Why not.... 3111.png ?

You can actually build it , but with my playstyle, you dont need it. You always have ton of cdr and your ult is supposed to be up when you need it.  It's really good in a big teamfight, when you have to be the frontline and peel for your carries, that's not what this gameplay is about, with a tank/utility build it can still be built.

3158.png Only exception where you shouldn't buy tabis is when jungling. You have to buy lucidity because the cdr it gives is essential and it allow you to use ghost a lot and have more mobility very early. Rush these because Olaf is really strong in the jungle for his snowballing potential, early you are strong and these boots allow you to use more of your potential.

Core items

1055.pngLet's talk about this item. This is probably the only one item that you should buy EVERY, SINGLE, GAME. I am not joking, just buy it. Always. You NEED of it. Why? Because it's the best item that you can build and it gives everything Olaf needs to be the strongest ( which is, again, your goal as an Olaf player, and following my playstyle ). It gives HP, Attack damage and life steal. This little life steal bonus will help you going through early to mid game. You need of this life steal to win trades, sustain and tower dive ( that's why i advise you to use flat ad runes when maxing E to maximize you sustain with1055.png). I explained below why you need hp with Olaf and some ad is always nice with a melee bruiser. You have an ad ratio on your E and an other one on your Q, they aren't really good actually, but since one deals true dmg and they can both be spammed easily it's ok. Your passive gives you  tons of attack speed ( as well as your W ) so ad can  still be usefull.

You can start with 1055.png if you feel like it, but you are more likely to build it when using tp or exhaust .  These days people tends to take tp a lot, so I it's probably the best start right now  and if you aren't really familiar with Olaf you should too ( I mean, taking tp ). It's safer, and you have more sustain early  and a better dualing potential ( but less lane stomping potential on an easy lane ) . Anyway, always pick at least one, for your 1st or 2d back if not for starter, A-L-W-A-Y-S.  ( actually with the faggot playstyle or tank cdr you can forget about it ).

3078.png

Triforce

Well, that's pretty much what this guide is all about, the trinity build.

If this item is so good it's only because it is the best item that Olaf can build on his way to be the strongest. It provides everything he needs.

Look at her stats: HP, mana, ad, as, ms, ( AND 20% CDR THANKS S6 ) and two awesome passives that synergise so well with Olaf.
It sure is expensive, and doesn't give that much dmg, neither tankyness. But combined with your midgame core build it becomes perfect to reach your goal ( be, the, strongest. ).

Why do you need it ? Why does it make you so strong?

It does because of how completly usefull this item is.

You should have your trinity when you start roaming/splitpushing, when you start "assassinate" people, duel 1 or 2 opponents toplane and pushing your lane all the way.

It gives some tankyess ( flat hp is again really good mid/early, when you get your trinity ), a little mana pool which is enough for what use you have for it, some extra movespeed/attack speed that helps when chasing, dueling, pushing or just moving on the map. And this awesome spellblade passive that allows you to burst down people or turrets ( the little critical strike bonus does too! )

RIght now it's even stronger than before because it gives 20% cdr!!!! When you have your core build ( 3078.png1001.png1055.png1055.png ) you become litteraly THE BEST CHAMP IN THE GAME, perfect cdr cap, no need to use cdr in runes so stronger stats than before. No more random crits and more procs of your fervor mastery. Everything is just too perfect, NO NERFS RITO PLEASE! ( i see it comin guys )

When should you buy it ?

Trinity isn't an item that you should buy just when you feel like doing so. It's an entire playstyle around this item, a playstyle which needs to used when you have to carry and end the game as fast as possible.

Why ?  Because this item falls off when you start not being ahead of everyone anymore. The power spike given by this item is worth when you outleved your opponents ( keep in mind that the passive's dmg scales off lvl ).

Even if you are the strongest when you finished building it, it doesn't mean that you'll stay as you can be at this very moment. Your goal is to reach that power spike and use it to turn the tables and make your team win!

It may be quite simple to get fed, but to use your advantage and keep getting ahead isn't that easy.

3071_64.png

The Black Cleaver

Let's talk about this item. It is in my opinion one of the best item on Olaf at the moment. ( still really good, safe and strong.

When I first heard about its rework, I couldn't believe it, I mean, just look at these stats:

+400 Health
+40 Attack Damage
+20% Cooldown Reduction

UNIQUE Passive: Dealing physical damage to an enemy champion Cleaves them, reducing their Armor by 5% for 6 seconds (stacks up to 6 times, up to 30%).
UNIQUE Passive - Rage: Dealing physical damage grants 20 movement speed for 2 seconds. Assists on Cleaved enemy champions or kills on any unit grant 60 movement speed for 2 seconds instead. This Movement Speed is halved for ranged champions.

Look at this!

Exactly what we need! Tons of hp, some ad and 20% cdr !! And two awesome passives that work really well wil Olaf! You usually try  to kill your opponent in one trade when maxing your Q and over-using cdr, this armor shred passive is perfect for that and you are tanky enough for diving easily.

OUTDATED-> This item will most of the time be your only core item ( SV too but you can build it later on ), when not using the trinity build and when you do as well. It may seem strange but this item is still really good even if you build triforce. Not a core item but it is still pretty good, It's really expensive but may be a worth investment if you do it properly.

I would build it before trinity if i'm pretty ahead/or not at all and that I need of that extra hp pool. If I need of a lot of cdr as well to spam my abilities even more than usual. It gives a nice ms boost which does partialy stacks with trinity ( even though they somehow share the same passive, it doesn't work the same way so it's not that much of a waste ).

So with this setup I would have a lot of damage as well as mobility, I won't be much tanky against a team that got a strong dps, that's why I don't advise you to use that kind of risky build in that situation. It gives some hp so you can resist to some burst and against mixed damage( really usefull if you're roaming mid or wherever you want ) . But if you get focused by a dps-oriented team you won't last long.

You can as well build BC as you would when using a standard bruiser build and right after a 3057.png, since BC might be enough for movespeed this early in the game ( and if the situation allows you to do so ). Then buy tanky items and finish your 3078.png or go for an 3025.png if you feel like it.  It's actually the only case where you can build 3025.png. ( at least when not using  a blue build :^)  )

You'll most of the time build this item for the 20% cdr bonus, you really need it when maxing Q/when ur Q is maxed, it gives an insane dps as I explained before . If your Q isn't maxed you don't need that much of cdr, that's why I'll only build this item as my 3/4th item if I am maxing E or as my 2nd big item if I build early items like 3077.png3155.png3211.png and I really want a BC.

Why not 3110.png, and why isn't Frozen Heart

one of the core items ?

3110.png Actually used to be one of my core items, as 3071.png and 3065.png are now. When 3065.png used to give 20% cdr just using both of these items would be giving me 40%, which would be perfect since it gives everything I may possibly need. As much cdr as possible, some MR, a lot of Armor, and two absolutely awesome passives. It wouldn't give much health but it's ok since so much armor would make you invincible.

I sometimes still use that kind of build, but I really feel like 3110.png is hugely getting outclassed by 3071.png .It actually doesn't, and is still a very viable choice, but BC's stats fits a lot more my playstyle than FH's.

If you build FH you are going for  a really tanky  and safe playstyle. Which would be really good against a carry opponents which u aren't confident in laning against ( like 92.png or 23.png )  but don't be mistaken and use that kind of build against champs like 106.png86.png48.png or even 75.png. Most of the time bruiser toplaners deal mixed dmg, with abilites like their ultimate or items like 3068.png. Against bruisers you need hp or durability to swallow their huge burst but still kick their ass. I would rather advise items like 3153.png3071.png3022.png.

Even later in the game, I feel like FH would get outclassed by items like 3075.png ( for the tankyness/dmg provided, mostly when using trinity builds ) or 3143.png( tankyness/utility, when using bruiser builds ). So now I only build it when using a really tanky playstyle and/or when I would rather build 3022.png +3110.png  than 3143.png(  which basically does the same thing )  . Nonetheless, when maxing Q against a strong ad laner it would be my core and most of the time first item.

I mostly use it when not running cdr runes.

3065.png

Spirit Visage , A.K.A. the best item on this champion ( jk, trinity n1 ):

This item is probably the best you can possibly build on this champion.

It's a defensive item that makes you stronger. It only gives tankyness, but you're getting a lot more stronger. Pretty cheap, easily to build, gives some hp and mr, hp/s and cdr.

AND, this passive: UNIQUE Passive: Increases all healing received by 20%.

Why is it so good ? It's because Olaf is a duelist bruiser which fights using cdr and life-stealing.

What does this item give ? Better general sustain, and cdr.

That's all it is about, it's one of the best mr/tank item, and it gives to Olaf incredible stats that synergise really well with his abilities. Kind of the same as the other items listed above.

3156.png

Maltimortus, almost as good as Spirit Visage:

This item is almost as good as the later, but it's made for different purposes. Indeed, it synergises in the same way with olaf's kit, but it doesnt give as much tankyness, instead it gives ad and an anti-burst shield. Basically, if you need early mr. Get 3211.png to sustain the dmg you may take, and kill the laner when you get 3065.png, since you'll be strong enough and 10% can be enough against a strong ap poke camp ( the case where you're build SV first ), usually I take it against a high dps opponent, that keeps harassing me and all I need is to sustain myself and survive. Thats not how I usually play, it's a really safe gameplay, when u're playing tanky and team-focused. You take 3155.png against a high burst opponent, which you'll need to swallow his burst a kill him in the laning phase. It only gives mr, so be carefull. You cant dive, tank creeps and take mixed dmg/ad dmg.

That's why, when facing an ap opponent ( standard bruiser build, not trinity ) I'll get some hp3052.png3067.png or 3044.png( that i'll evolve into 3071.png ,3022.png3078.png3748.pngor 3065.png against a heavy-ap team ), 1055.png and then go for the 3155.png. That's what my powerspike will be, I'll get some cdr some hp, ad, lifesteal and mobility. I can litteraly 1 vs 2 if the jungler comes, and dive if needed. When I get my 3047.pngI'll be able to dive even more easily and win early skirmichies against the ennemy's botlane. At this point, an ad jungler or an adc cant duel me and won't do much harm to me anyway.

3742.png

Probably the most over-powered item right now ( still pretty good ):

This item is litteraly op, since Olaf is op and all he needs is to get close to someone and annihilates him, this item gives him whatever he might dream of. I tried to rush it, using full cdr runes, with of course 1055.png and the results were astonishing. With this setup im pretty "weak" early on ( only ad marks and a few hp sceals beside cdr ) so I get like 21055.png and then I can just buid whatever item I want. I kill level 1/3, or I back when i get enough gold for my second doran and a few consumables. Then I can just rush tankyness, since I have all the cdr I need, which is enough to be unstoppable. I can go 3.png+6.png14.png+12.png or 3.png+12.png, it doesnt matter.  It's kinda troll-ish but you can try out in normals if you got ip to waste on cdr quints ( like me :D ).

Beside this specific gameplay, I almost build this item all the time ( if my team has a lot of cc and/or move speed buff, or if I just dont feed like its needed )  it's literally perfect, no carry can escape you, and you can roam easier. You can get it early ( since the dmg are flat, it's pretty strong early on ) but as well midgame and late, the move speed stat is essential anyway.

Good items:

3022.png One of the best items when facing low mobility ennemies, they just cant escape you, I tend to build it more when maxing E.

3053.pngSynergies extremely well with Olaf's kit and gameplay. Most of the time you just go OVERBOARD into the melee and kill ppl. This items allows you to survive a lot longer and is cheap/easy to build. When used with trinity its even better since it increases his passive's dmg, when u're ahead in lvl ( which is what my trinity build is about ) your base ad which is pretty high compared to others and is at the same time amplified with this item. You might stack hp a lot when playing Olaf, and this items works better the more hp you have. Pick this instead of 3156.png if you already got3065.png and your ennemies don't have ap burst, but rather ad or true damage burst.

3075.png Really good item, when you start not being able to dominate carries easily anymore this item makes the task easy again: when only your 3047.png and few hp items aren't enough to make you a god-like viking, this item gives you supplementary strength against adcs.

3153.pngI dont build it much but it's not bad at all, I dont really like dps items, im more into straight ad, cdr, things like that which are better when u're ahead in the game. But when u're even, with standart toplaner runes, tanky builds, playing safe, etc. ( not my playstyle at all, lol ) you can consider using this item. It will give you a good dueling potential, more durability in teamfight, you chase carries easier and melt tanks.

3142.pngGives the cdr you might need, damage, and the active synergises well with Olaf's Ultimate, just use it when u're close to the target that you previously hit with and axe. Usually I'd build it with an other move speed item, so I dont have to use the active to get close to the target but to dps when I'm already close to her.

3143.png Against AA-centered opponent, especially if they are critical strike users. If there is a 157.png23.png or 114.png its pretty good.

3074.png/3748.png In my opinion this is one of the best offensive items on Olaf. I used to not build it much, becase I like Raveneous Hydra's burst and sustain better in early/midgame, but it wasnt that good later on. And it was the opposite for the Titanic. But now that you can trade them whenever you feel like doing so, it's a lot "easier" to build. I like to build it when maxing E, since its a gameplay based on stacking hp and short trades in lane. Your E+AA+3077.png compo is pretty strong and your other hp items will scale well with your 3748.png

ATM you can't change it whenever you want but they both are petty good offensive items, they allow you to pressure the map pretty heavily with the tiamat passive, and it's good to build when maxing E since you can now push the lane fast without a maxed Q.

3800.png I never really liked this item, I like to be strong, this item doesnt give you any strength, only sustain ( if you're building it as your first item I mean ). There is no more 3010.png passive when you build the full item, and it got nerfed a lot. It's a team oriented item, it gives no duelling stats.  I advise you to build it when playing jungle or as your 3rd or 4th item if you need it's active. Otherwise its a pretty good item on Olaf, ppl assume that it's even really good, but I dont think so, you can build it but I won't approuve your choice. It's indeed good but doesn't fit my playstyle, this guide is supposed to introduce you to my playstyle ;D .

Same points that befoe but now build it with a BC and it's really strong, and safe. Faggot playstyle's core items.

3025.png Dont like it much, but with 3071.png it might be good: perma-slow, caped in cdr, defensive stats, movespeed, utility, you can give it a try.

3083.png If you need to stack hp this item will always be an option Against mixed dmg team with single time, huge burst. Nice to get the 23% cap also, if your first item was3065.png for exemple.

3190.pngTeam-oriented item. Once again, not really my playstyle, and there are better mr items in my opinion, but its still pretty good.

3068.png This item is pretty bad atm and Olaf doesnt really have waveclear issues. Now with 3748.png we can have some more even when maxing E or building tanky, that's why this item isn't needed.

You might still use it, when for example using 3075.png, so you deal a lot of magical damage, against AA and ad champs, but it doesnt give cdr, so I'd rather use this build when maxing E. This is a playstyle, but I think that a build using items like 3110.png,3742.png, or 3143.png is way better.

3709.png  Probably the best way to play Olaf jungle, you'll stack hp and still deal a lot of damage, Warrior isn't bad but only if you wanna stomp the game early, and only in this case.

OUTDATED->When playing jungle I take scaling hp runes, ad marks, scaling mr glyphs and armor or offensive quints, I have some damage early and scale pretty well into mid/late-game. But there is no cdr so it might get tricky to dps properly in the early game, I always get 3071.png as my second item, since it gives the 20% cdr needed and a lot of things that I described earlier in this section. You can build 3110.png as your second item but only against a really heavy ad comp and if your team has enough damage, if you can count on them and just peel for your carries.

Now use my all around Olaf runes or ad runes with 12,86% cdr ( full blues, 2 quints and one yellow ), be carefull with those because you aren't much tanky nor you have that much damage, it's risky but you have a higher carrying potential. Build doran into lucidity, into cinderhulk, then usual items.

When going for warrior snowball gameplay, I take my trinity build runes and buy early-focused items. Things like 3155.png,3142.png3742.png . Items that allow me total dominance in early/midgame, this gameplay is kind of like Lee Sin's.

3812.png-> It's pretty decent, it synergises pretty well with3047.png,3156.png,3065.png and 3143.png ( that makes a build lol ), can give you the 10% cdr you might need, or increases your lead by making you more durable, it's really not bad.

That's all for now, I'll be back after further testing of the new items and tell you my thought about them. - DONE

she doesn't have much range so when she comes to farm you can easily hit her with your q. The only things she can do is bait you under her tower by ulting herself or dashing away but if she uses her e you can easily kill/ zone her afterwards.

team even -> splitpush/counterjungle

Latest update: Back to Top

Will have to do the laning section, will put that in there:

It's not a pure tank gameplay, but rather a durable peeler/duelist which can stomp his lane easily.

Basically, it's a really aggressive laning playstyle, you'll do nothing but trade, maxing E early and then sustain the hp lost. You have to use your AAs a lot, not spam your axes much ( just enough to slow your ennemy and then dps him ) and use your e as much as possible.

You'll only max your e until it gets to lvl 3/4 ( when using a build that gets cdr later you can continue maxing E but dont go ham too much ) , when you go back you need a cdr item like 3067.png  ( mixed/ ap opponent )or 3024.png( physical ) and you can buy an other 1055.png ( which has to be your first item ). When you'll get 20 % from your items
your Q should be maxed to his maximum rank and that's where you'll start catching people/dive. Because when your E is maxed you sure deal tons of dmg but not enough to finish off someone. That's what a maxed Q allows you to do. I now prefer to get a 3067.png+3133.png because i'll always get 3065.png a 3812.png and a with this playstyle, I want to also build 3156.pngand 3047.pngbecause it synergises so well so always get a 6.png with 3.png maybe when following this playstyle because you'll lack mobility otherwise. I also want to use a 3074.png but also 3143.png and 3742.png. So it's pretty messed up and I'm never sure what should I build, just adapt your items to the game you are playing and try to keep the logic I use as base.

Some icons glitched out in the items notes  so I have to change them, will do the laning section at the same time.
