Summoner Spells Back to Top

The best korean Olaf players use 4.png 12.png. Good for high elo. My reasoning: Their jungler will dive you constantly if you have no flash because you have no escape move.
They also build 3078.png which opens up for alot of oneshot rotations with: 4.png->olafaxethrowcast.png->AA->olafrecklessstrike.png.

The majority use 6.png 12.png, and for good reason. I myself used this all the time. Some pro's compared to flash:
-Faster Chain Q's -> More dps
-Better, faster and more effective roams.
-Easier kill potential (If jungle pressure is not involved). If you land a Q with ghost they are dead. Where as with
flash you wont be able to chase them down effectivly for the kill most of the time.

Conclusion: 4.png12.png, Safe laning.
6.png12.png, Higher kill pressure and better roams. Needs very good wave manipulation to avoid ganks.

Masteries Back to Top

Keystone masteries on Olaf are all debatable. I don't know the most optimal setup after years of playing him, but I do know that Thunderlord and Fervor both work in their own ways.

Some people prefer Grasp. I don't. Mainly because it doesn't offer damage on demand like Thunderlord or Fervor. It also does less damage overall. On the flipside though, it "steals" hp from the enemy based on your max HP. So it is a viable keystone if u have a rough meele matchup.

The koreans use Fervor (18/0/12).
I have mostly been using Thunderlord (12/18/0).

From my experience, Thunderlord is only better if you have an advantageous lane from level 1. Because it offers more early game damage and easier snowball potential. (5% extra cdr, increased % dmg and Thunderlord).

While Fervor is better if you have a somewhat close matchup and need more early survivability from the Resolve tree. (+50 HP, +2 AD Reduction from AA's, extra HP regeneration).

I always max Q for max DPS and waveclear. Maxing E can sometimes work vs heavy armour stackers but you will soon realize that a maxed Q will be way more usefull in teamfights midgame.

If you end up on low HP, feel free to get W at lvl 2 or 3.(Leveling Q twice before W will however increase your Q damage by 45).

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

    Buy ASAP
    Always Tabi
Buy if they have more AP than AD
Buy if they have more AD than AP
    Core
    2nd Core

Situational Items

Rush Hexdrinker vs ap heavy laners like vladimir or if they have multiple AP dmg threats

Starting Items:

Always 2033.png3340.png. You need mana in lane.

First Back:

Get 3067.png.  Massive powerspike for lvl 6 all-ins.

Second Back:

3047.png or 3057.png depending on matchup.(use logic here). 3155.png vs difficult ap laner.

Third back:

Finish 3078.png.

Midgame:

3065.png ->3748.png.

Lategame:

3143.png->3156.png.

Questionable items:

3053.png. Why not u might ask? It increases your base AD. But your Q scales with Bonus AD. So it only buffs your E damage.

3074.png. I don't recommend this because 3748.png gives more durability and the damage scales with your maximum hp, which fits perfectly with our build.

VS

Aatrox

Medium

Dodge E whenever u can. When his E is on CD, try to trade effectivly and chase him down with Q and all in with ignite.

Think of Aatrox as a jax. Shitty teamfighter but strong laner. You dont have to force the issue!

VS

Akali

Easy

You should have no problem in this matchup. Before lvl 6 you should focus on killing her and denying her. After 6 just aim to get  3155.png+3067.png  for more Q spam and survivablity.

If she get an advantage you can usually not win a fight against her after lvl 6.

If YOU have the advantage, buy a 2043.png so you can 2vs1 if the jungler shows up.

VS

Cassiopeia

Easy

All in lvl 1 if u you can. Her lvl 2 is strong so be careful.

Rush 3155.png + 3067.png. She is free kill at 6.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

This matchup can be pretty tricky sometimes if you dont get a lead early on. He will get to a point where he is unkillable in an all in. So you should aim to kill him between lvl 1-6.

Always go for trades if his W or Q is on CD, as you will win every time.

Buy 3155.png + 3067.png first.

VS

Darius

Medium
Darius is really easy for Olaf if you know what you are doing.
I can almost guarantee you that Darius players will play aggro in the early game.(USE THIS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE). You win early all ins, just make sure you ignite him before he gets his Q off. Even if you trade your Ignite for his Flash. You have the easiest kill of your life if you just ping your jungler to gank.

Buy 3067.png + 3047.png first.

VS

Diana

Easy

She can't win unless she gets a good gank. So if she randomly plays aggressive, just assume their jungler is nearby. Other than that, enjoy your free boxing bag ;)

Olaf crushes diana before 20 min into the game. Just avoid jungle ganks, deny her cs and farm kills.

Buy 3067.png+3155.png first.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Medium

Dodge his Q and try to make him hit minions instead as it will push the wave towards you. This will open up for all-in opportunities as you will have a long distance to chain your Q's before he can retreat to his turret.

He can hit quite hard early game but you will get a better grasp of this matchup the more you play it.

Also after his lvl 6. ONLY use your ignite when you know he is going to ult.

Buy 3067.png + 3155.png , or ignore hexdrinker and rush 3067.png + 3800.png.

VS

Ekko

Medium

Much like fiora, alot of mobility to dodge your Q's.

He can put up an even fight early on. So be careful.
All in lvl 1 if you can.
After 6 you have a combat ultimate and he does not.

Rush 3155.png+3067.png.

VS

Fiora

Hard

Simular to the Riven matchup. She has alot of mobility and alot of tools to dodge your Q.

I'd say this matchup is really hard from personal experience. I just feel she outdamages you soon enough and is way more usefull in teamfights.

You need to snowball early. Which can be tricky due to her mobility.
Try to only throw your Q's when her Q is on CD for a guaranteed hit.

She can block your Ignite with her W, so keep that in mind.

First items 3067.png+3047.png.

VS

Fizz

Medium

I don't have much experience in this matchup but he can kill you lvl 6. So play aggressive before that. After your hexdrinker you will win for sure.

First buy 3155.png+3067.png.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

Gangplank scales super well, therefore you need to force fights when you can and deny him.

First items 3067.png+3047.png.
