Summoner Spells Back to Top

Heal adds a lot of utility to Oriana kit, it gives you a lower risk summoner spell to use as an escape tool during ganks, it also gives you a health advantage during fights, and into the late game will also provide some value to an ally carry that you can heal during late game team fights.
Cleanse is necessary gains matchups with key CC abilities that most likely can't be avoided such as (3.png4.png13.png) being able to instantly get out of CC will allow you to live but also actually be able to fight these champions instead of being at the mercy of their stuns.


Flash is standard on most champions, Orianna is no exception, use Flash to Engage or to Run away. 

  • You can NOT buffer Orianna's Q orianaizunacommand.png before flashing, it will go in the direction you send it.

Summon%20Aerie.png?width=64 Early game Arey provides lots of extra poke damage, in most matchups you will be taking small trades with either 1 Q orianaizunacommand.png or 1 auto attack, and building up damage over time, Arey helps with this by deal slightly more damage, and the cooldown of Arey is based on how quickly the Arey comes back to you after flying to the enemy champion and hitting them, so the closer you get the more times you can proc it during all ins. 

During the Mid game you can make use of Arey's defensive capability by giving allies a bigger shield when you cast E orianaredactcommand.png on them they will also get a small shield from Arey.
Manaflow%20Band.png?width=64 Magnaflow band makes it pretty hard to run out of mana, you benefit so much from it during a laning phase you get to cast a spell for free every minute which is huge, and during late game team fights getting a clutch free spell cast could make or break a team fight.
Transcendence.png?width=64 Mid Laners get levels very quickly, you don't lose out much by not running the other 2 options in this row, and Oriana benefits a lot by entering the Mid game with 30% CDR from this + 3165.png Orianna needs to spam lots of spells to be effective.
Scorch.png?width=64 Extra damage after hitting an enemy champion with an ability, in combination with Arey Summon%20Aerie.png?width=32 makes Orianna's poke even stronger.

Perfect%20Timing.png?width=64 Having a Stopwatch at 6 Minute opens up tons of plays to be made that simply can't be made without it, aggressive and defensive, it's also very fun to use and builds into 3157.png
Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=64 Free 5% CDR on abilities, and Summoner Spells are the main draw for this rune on Orianna it's generally good, and basically makes her 5% better.

Passive: Oriana's auto attacks deal additional magic damage, the damage builds up the more you attack the same target.
  • This is very easy to make use of by simply auto attacking, but during teamfights you may have to put some thought into only auto attacking 1 target to build up the damage.

Oriana moves her ball towards a target location, dealing magic damage it all target hit from it's path to the targeted direction.
  • This is Orianas main ability, with ti being on a short cooldown you should be spamming it often to push minion waves, or to do as much damage as possible during fights.

Damages all enemies in a circle around Orianna's ball, also slowing them and speeding up allies the move over the circle.

  • Use W orianadissonancecommand.png to maximize poke damage in the basic combo orianaizunacommand.png dot-pattern.png orianadissonancecommand.png in lane.
  • Use the combo E orianaredactcommand.png dot-pattern.png W orianadissonancecommand.png to run away from enemies, or to give an ally a shield and bonus movement speed.

Passive: The Ball adds bonus Armor and Magic Resist to any ally champion it is attached to (including Oriana)

Active: Oriana sends her ball to herself or a targeted ally giving them a shield and damaging all enemies the ball pass through on its path to the target.

  • Use for a shield to trade auto attack damage and avoid enemy damage and minion damage in lane.
  • Use in a full damage combo orianaizunacommand.png dot-pattern.png orianadissonancecommand.png dot-pattern.png orianaredactcommand.png on an enemy champion, or to push a minion wave as fast as possible.

  • Orianna ULT is on a low cooldown, so you can use this and a full damage combo and not kill your lane opponent but put them at very low health, making laning much harder for them if they choose to start in lane, sometimes giving more of an advantage than actually killing them if you deny them multiple minion waves and take their tower.
  • Late game its very important to hit ULTs on multiple enemy carries, it's very easy to enemies to lose track of Orianna's ball during teamfights.

1056.png Doran's Ring is standard on most Mid lane Control Mages, Oriana is no exception, she makes great use of all the stats provided, and continues to make use of it throughout the Early - Mid game until it is later sold, not having this item early game leaves you at a huge mana deficit.
2003.png With Doran's Ring you get to buy 2 health pots, which should sustain you in lane until your first recall, you should use these health pots aggressively early to trade your health temporarily, while the enemy spends their health permanently or atleast a trade for their health pots as well.

3165.png - Obvious good choice for any control mage giving them lots of what they want early game, large mount of AP, Mana, and 20% CDR makes your champion with already low cooldowns and high damage, have even shorter cooldowns and even more damage on abilities.
3020.png - Very cheap Magic Penetration and obvious 2nd item choice.
3151.png - Getting Liandry's as a 2nd item should be a common build path in most matches, it builds from 3136.png which gives you AP, Health, and Magic Pen coming into the Mid game, having extra health is actually very impactful making you able to tank a couple more abilities an survive to deal more damage during fights, with this being the only other item you can get Flat Magic Penetration from it is currently the Go - To item for early game damage.
3135.png -  Void Staff is a cheap 3rd item being under 3K, and around the time you will complete it in most matches will be around the same time enemies start getting Magic Resist 3211.png 3105.png 3140.png, giving you immediate value from Void Staff's passive percentage Magic Pen.
3089.png - Deathcap lets you push your ability damage over the edge, it's very expensive, and needs to be completed in a short amount of time entering the late game, so if you are never farming and always dying you will get it to late or never, but properly farming and getting kills will reward you with this item that allows your abilities to do WAY more damage than they where previously.
3157.png - A good choice against Assassin champions, it's 2.5 invulnerability has tons of uses during team fights to avoid key CC abilities or damage.
3285.png - Ludens is an ok 3rd item choice, it's slightly cheaper than DeathCap, it's more of a snowball item, it doesn't offer a ton other than extra movement speed and high base damage on it's passive, but if the game goes on much longer after it's purchase it will be much less valuable than buying Deathcap.

Anivia will constantly push in minion waves, especially after she is 6, if you can get good orianaizunacommand.pngorianadissonancecommand.png trades onto her for free than it's good, but it's very unlikely that you can get in that position without her being able to punish with her glacialstorm.pngcrystallize.png combo.

Basically don't walk into her unless you are fully engaging or she will cut off your escape path with her ULT and wall.




Oriana out ranges Annie by a lot, just avoid her Q disintegrate.png poke in lane, running 1.png cleanse allows you to avoid negate a lot of her kit, and 3111.png


Aurelion Sol


Aurelion Sol will push the first minion wave almost instantly into your tower, don't try to trade into him and an entire minion wave.

He will look to roam for the entirety of the early and mid game , don't match his roams, just push the minion wave into his tower and start hitting it, be mindful of the enemy jungler location and play accordingly, but if you follow him to lanes you will most likely lose .




Jayce Mid has a very strong level 1 - 3, start E orianaredactcommand.png to avoid his initial damage, a good jayce will go for lots of trades during this time, if you simply don't play into him and avoid him until level 6 you should be in good shape then the matchup evens out.




Avoid Katarina's level 2-3 all in, this is one of her strongest points in the game, if you do that than you can continue to play the game without being at  sever disadvantage. 

Expecting Katarina's moves is the only way to play against her, if you are reacting she moves very fast and you will not perivale. 



1.png running cleanse negates her ULT's CC, you can orianadetonatecommand.png ULT to cancel her E lissandrae.png.

During the laning phase Lissandra can only damage you by throwing Q lissandraq.png through minions, you can face tank this with your shield E orianaredactcommand.png and orianaizunacommand.pngorianadissonancecommand.png her with some auto attacks for a much stronger trade, the only way you lose the laning phase is if the jungler ganks you and she sets up for CC and you cleanse 4 years to late, or if you let her land multiple Qs lissandraq.png through minions.




You out range Malzahar by a lot, don't stand near you minion wave so you don't get hit by his abilities. 

Buy QSS 3140.png to negates Malzahar's ULT malzaharr.png

This lane plays out pretty much as a farm lane, early game don't move to far forward when Malzahar is 6 or he can ULT you and the jungler can get a free gank.




Ryze is very short range, you out range him with orianaizunacommand.pngorianadissonancecommand.png poke, the slow from W orianadissonancecommand.png hurts him a lot. 

And when in auto attack range your auto attacks actually deal good amount of damage compared to most control mages, and then you can orianaredactcommand.png some of his damage. 




Taliyah pushes the minion wave very well, avoid standing near your minions when she is doing so that you don't take damage from her Q taliyahq.png.

Ward in the lane to spot out where she moves after clearing minion waves, to spot what lane she may be moving to.

taliyahwvc.png Taliyah's W is her ticket to landing huge damage onto you in lane, if she moves forward into you than expect it.


Twisted Fate


Managing the minion wave is the name of the game in this matchup, standing in a neutral position and auto attacking minions, and trying to land poke onto TF while doing so without huge missteps.

TF also has very easy setup for a jungle gank, so running 1.png helps a lot against his gold card.




Ziggs out pushes Oriana, and can do so without much for you to do, it leaves a lot up to if your jungle can/do gank Ziggs at proper times when he is pushed into your tower, so ping a lot for those proper ganks.

Avoid his Q ziggsq.png poke by not standing on your minions. 

If Ziggs walks forward towards you expect him to ziggsw.png W you towards him into a lot of damage.

Oriana's abilities offer damage, protection, and utility, so a little of everything this comes as a blessing a curse, with most champions that offer a lot of everything, that everything has to be used and used properly to gain full effectiveness, vs a champion that is raw damage and simply needs to land an ability over and over.

oriannapassive.png Oriana's Auto attacks deal bonus magic damage build up every auto attack on the same target, that's very unique and in extended trades really helps, her W orianadissonancecommand.png offers movement speed for her if she walks over it, and slows enemies hit, this doesn't helps so much in lane outside of getting an extra auto attack on a slowed enemy, but during team fights it can really shine.  Her E orianaredactcommand.png giving you a shield, a lot of early trades will be 1 auto attack trades with you having a shield and the enemy not having one.

Oriana's kit also offers a lot in all stages of a laning phase, rather you are playing aggressive, neutral, or defensive. As long as you don't spam all her spells repeatedly without hitting any of them, you should always have enough mana for a full combo, since Oriana's mana cost are low, and a lot of her damage especially early game will come from her auto attacks.

Oriana has no gap closer besides her flash, so if you are over extended and get ganked you will have the tools of 7.png or 1.png to aid you in escaping and you should use those first, but to push all the way into the enemies tower you have to know where the enemy jungler is or else you will have to use flash 4.png to get away.

Mid Game Oriana only gets stronger, especially if you are farming well and have 3165.png, you can start clearing minion waves very quickly orianaizunacommand.png dot-pattern.png Auto attack orianaredactcommand.png dot-pattern.png auto attack dot-pattern.png orianaizunacommand.png  

pushing minion waves quickly into the enemy will allow you to ward 2055.png the left or right side of your lane, or it will let you move forward to hit the enemy mid laner with abilities while they try to CS, don't get greedy, the goal most likely isn't to get tower damage, it's easier to take the tower all at once when there are no enemies to defend it, getting poke onto an enemy laner will allow you to solo kill them in the future, or be at an obvious advantage if any fight where to break out, but if you put yourself in a position in which you are hitting the enemy tower they will likely be able to damage you, and you lose all advantage.

During the Mid Game you gain access to Oriannas ULT orianadetonatecommand.png you don't have to look for the best ULTs possible, just let it rip, it's on a very low cooldown, not low enough to come up twice during a fight, but low enough so that when you recall and come back to lane it will likely be up, or be up soon. So in lane you can use it on the enemy not even during an all in just to get as much damage as possible on them.

Once you have tier 2 boots, you can start roaming to other lanes, using W orianadissonancecommand.png to get there faster also helps, you need to look at lanes you are roaming to before walking there if you see nothing but your champion before showing up in a lane you will have no information of what is happening until your champion is physically there, but you don't have to have to roam, staying Mid will consistently give you more gold.

Make sure to always get your Blue Buff, and you may start farming Raptors after pushing out minion waves.

Late Game Oriana is all about getting Big Shockwaves orianadetonatecommand.png during sieging or any teamfight its very hard for enemies to keep track of Orianna's Ball, so you can quickly move it into position then R orianadetonatecommand.png dot-pattern.png W orianadissonancecommand.png dot-pattern.png Q orianaizunacommand.png dot-pattern.png E orianaredactcommand.png

For MAX burst, it's easiest to do this if the enemies are moving into you, if you are moving into them, they are likely to walk backwards, and the ULT has a short delay, and during that time it would be very unlikely that the enemy champions just stood still in your ULT instead of running away from it, so if  you are attempting to ULT multiple enemies that are running away you will most likely have to Flash 4.png onto them.

During the Late Game, almost every enemy champion will be hiding in the fog of war, waiting to catch someone out, don't be the guy that walks into the unwarded enemy side of the map for nothing, idling in the Mid Lane is likely your best play, if you aren't moving with your team into unwarded areas you will likely die alone. You can check unwarded bushes with Q orianaizunacommand.png for a small amount of vision. It is mostly the Jungle and Supports job to help with vision, not yours so don't go out of your way to get a good Trinket Ward somewhere, assist your allies when they move in for vision, just don't attempt to do it all yourself.

During Late Game Teamfights obviously getting a good ULT orianadetonatecommand.png is important but after that the fight will likely still be going on, and Orianna's basic abilities all have low cooldowns, so you should be continuing to spam her orianaizunacommand.pngorianadissonancecommand.png for the most damage possible, and also orianaredactcommand.png shielding your ADC is a very easy way to gain huge advantages in fights, both teams can have shielding supports, but having an extra shield from a Mid laner changes fights a lot.
