Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png Flash

Standard on most mid laners. It helps you escape, gap close, jump walls, re-position - it's simply too good to pass up. There's simply no other spell that's as versatile as Flash. The fact that you can use it to escape, dodge spells, or go aggressive is what makes it such a strong spell.

14.png Ignite

Ignite is taken to increase your overall damage and acts as an additional spell. This extra damage will give you a lot more kill potential on the enemy throughout the laning phase.

One tip is to remember that Ignite applies Grievous Wounds - reducing all healing by 40%. For this reason you always want to try to Ignite at the start of your all-in engages. This is due to the fact that it's common for players to consume a health pot at the start of a fight to increase their health regeneration throughout the engagement.

Additionally, Ignite will give you sight on enemy champions it's applied to - this does not reveal stealth champions. However, this can be important when fighting around brushes as enemies can use brushes to hide, juke you, and overall increase their chances of getting away.

New Runes Back to Top

Electrocute.png?width=32 - Electrocute is a great rune as your combo of W+Q+E activates it and gives you a ton of burst.

Sudden%20Impact.png?width=32 - Sudden Impact is really strong on Pantheon as it activates off of his W ability. Also, it gives Lethality which synergizes with our Lethality item build.

Eyeball%20Collection.png?width=32 - Eyeball Collection synergizes with assassins as it increases your damage as you get Takedowns.

Relentless%20Hunter.png?width=32 - Relentless Hunter is a great rune as it helps you move around the map and set up engages and picks.

Bone%20Plating.png?width=32 - This is mainly taken to help you deal with the harass you'll take from ranged mages in Mid lane during the early laning phase. On top of that, it does help you in 1v1 situations by reducing the enemy's damage, which you'll be in a lot of the time.

5abd57da0f30230001f3edd9?width=32 - Another rune we take to help bolster our early game. The extra health can help you take a small amount more of early game poke, while also making you stronger in early all-in 1v1s. On top of that, it then switches into damage after enough Takedowns.

Abilities Back to Top

Skill Order

pantheonrjump.png > pantheonq.png > pantheone.png >pantheonw.png

Note: At level 3 you can put a point in your E instead of your Q if the enemy is within range of being all-ined and killed. This is because once you have a point in your E your Q/Auto-attacks on enemies below 15% max health will guarantee critical strike.

pantheonpassive.png Aegis Protection

  • This passive is great for winning trades and tower diving

pantheonq.png Spear Shot

  • It provides a strong form of harass, but be careful of spamming it early on and running yourself out of mana
  • Once you have blue buff you can spam it much more frequently
  • This makes bullying melee champions in lane very easy

pantheonw.png Aegis of Zeonia

  • A nice gap close and crowd control skill
  • Allows you to output a lot of damage while the enemy is stunned
  • Keep in mind that it refreshes your passive - you can essentially get your passive up twice if timed correctly and block 2 auto attacks

pantheone.png Heartseeker Strike

  • You can use this as a tool to last hit far away minions - just activate it so that the minion is at the max range of the skill and then move back once you've killed it
  • Once you have blue buff you can easily spam this to help clear waves so that you can gank side lanes
  • In team fights try your best to hit as many enemies as possible with this
  • This skill also has a passive that gives Pantheon's autoattacks and Spear Shots 100% critical strike chance against targets below 15% of their max health

pantheonrjump.png Grand Skyfall

  • This is what makes Pantheon strong in the mid lane - it gives him a ton of mobility and map presence
  • You want to aim this skill so that it's on the enemy's escape path - try to have the enemies placed at the edge of the range indicator
  • You can hover your mouse over the skill so that you can see the exact range of your ultimate

Start With

Your standard start that gives you a ton of sustain so you can get through the early laning phase. You'll often be laning against ranged mages that are harassing you with abilities so you'll need the sustain.

Early Game

I think that Tiamat rush is the best for Middle Lane Pantheon as it gives you the wave clear needed to start roaming around. You don't have the greatest engage or laning against ranged mages in such a short lane like mid.

Once you have Tiamat you can spam your E along with it to start pushing extremely hard and looking to roam rather than trying to kill the lane opponent.

Next Purchase

Your next purchase will be a Ghostblade so that we can use the active to engage and chase down opponents as well as escape from people since we lack an escape ability.

Middle Game Core

Your next item is Duskblade, which we get for to stack more Lethalithy, as well as cooldown reduction, but also for its passive which will make give you a lot more burst damage.

End Game Build Example

This is a very standard end game build. You want to sell your Tiamat in the end game for a more useful item in team fights. You get a tremendous amount of armor penetration with this build and 40% cooldown reduction.

Edge of night and Guardian Angel give you some defensive options so you don't just die instantly in team fights.

3155.png - You can get a very early hexdrinker if you're struggling against an AP mid laner or there are a lot of AP champs in the game.

3033.png - If the enemy has Soraka, Vladimir, or Swain then you likely want to pick up this item to cut through their healing.

3036.png - This can be a good pick up if you're against a lot of tanks or enemies stacking armor.

3139.png - A good purchase when facing champion's with crowd control to lock you down. It's mainly purchased for the active ability. An example would be 90.png ultimate.

Pick one of these boots

3111.png - Get these if the enemy team has a lot of crowd control/AP champions or you're struggling in lane against an AP champion.

3047.png - Get these if the enemy has a lot of AD or you're struggling against an AD mid laner.

  • Zyra

  • She has a lot of range which makes it difficult to close the gap to burst her down
  • Her ultimate allows her to kite you around after you stun her
  • She can charm you after you stun her which will allow her to kite you and win trades
  • She can counter gank you because of the mobility of her ultimate

  • Her long range makes it difficult to close the gap and burst her
  • She can kite you extremely well once she's level 6+
  • She has terrible roaming since she has such low base movement speed. Take advantage of this.

Annie can be tough and is a borderline hard matchup because of her range, burst and shield.

Time your aggression with Annie's stun stacks as to not get stunned and kited. Don't be afraid of getting an early hexdrinker in this matchup if you need it.

Aurelion Sol

Aurelion Sol will just shove you into tower for the first three waves and then recall and purchase a Dark Seal. There's nothing you can do about this so just focus on getting what farm you can and then match his recall and purchase a long sword as you should have the money for it.

He will start to push you in again once you get back. Ward at the center of the lane and look where he roams to after he pushes and ping aggressively to warn teammates.

Once you have Tiamat you can fight back in the push battle and look to beat him on roams or match his roams.

Azir's range, harass, and kite makes it very hard to engage on him.

You definitely want to ask for jungle help in this matchup as your stun can set up jungle ganks really well.

Try your best to avoid harass. Be careful of engaging on Azir near his tower as he can ult you into his tower and win the fight.

Try to roam and impact other lanes once you're level 6.

  • She has very annoying harass in lane
  • Her level 2 is extremely strong, don't try to fight her unless you're baiting for a gank
  • She's squishy and can be bursted down easily with a jungle gank
  • Her ultimate counters your aggression
  • Look to gank side lanes rather than outplay her mid

  • His sustain makes it impossible to harass him out of lane
  • He can 100-0 you once he's level 6 if you get caught in a rupture
  • You have way better roam. Use this to your advantage.

  • Her shield negates a lot of your damage
  • Your Q harass is much stronger than hers early on
  • This lane will snowball extremely hard into one person's favor
  • Try to set up a jungle gank since she has no escapes

  • Her Q harass is extremely annoying
  • One of the strongest laners currently
  • She's a pain to deal with and it's difficult to win trades unless you get some type of early advantage
  • Try to set up jungle ganks and pressure side lanes rather than trying to outplay her mid.

  • You can harass her early on with your Qs
  • Don't get kited chasing her after you stun her since she will move too fast
  • You can counter gank her when she roams with your ultimate
  • Still, you have to be cautious when she hits level 6. She will have a lot of burst, especially if she got fed off side lanes.

  • You can harass him with your Q
  • His passive gives him sustain, which will make it difficult to zone him completely
  • Watch out for jungle ganks as a well placed Gragas ult will make it nearly impossible for you to escape

  • Her long range makes it very difficult to gap close and burst him
  • Will likely turn into a farm lane
  • You both have map presence with your ultimates, although you have a bit more.
  • You can still set up ganks with your jungle if you freeze the minions closer to your tower as Karthus has no escapes.

  • You can harass him really hard before level 6
  • Try to go aggressive once you're level 2+ since Kassadin will be very weak
  • Once he's level 6+ it will start to become hard to kill him because of the mobility from his ultimate

  • You can harass her with Qs
  • It's easy to force trades since she's melee
  • Save your stun once you're both level 6+ for her ultimate
  • You simply do more damage than her and will win trades

  • Will snowball in one person's favor
  • Kha'Zix has INSANE damage right now. Don't feel bad if you're forced to last hit with your Qs and wait for him to push to tower.
  • Kha'Zix also has good counter ganking and roaming.
  • This can be a difficult lane, but can also snowball into your favor.

  • Pantheon is an AD caster not a bruiser. You will have to adjust your build to a more bruiser type of build in order to avoid being bursted.
  • Her high burst can zone you out of the lane and 100-0 you
  • If she snowballs it will become a nightmare
  • LeBlanc has terrible wave clearing, try to force her to last hit under tower if you can

  • His harass is nearly impossible to avoid because you're melee
  • His high burst at level 6+ counters you since you're an AD caster
  • You will need to build more like a bruiser in order to deal with his burst
  • He has extremely strong lane pushing, which makes it difficult to gank side lanes without losing your tower
  • Very important to set up jungle ganks since Malz has no escapes

Master Yi

  • Yi is just a pain to deal with because of his high sustain and harass
  • You'll want to save your stun for his W if you're trying to all in him
  • Difficult to apply map pressure since Master Yi can take down your tower extremely fast
  • Set up jungle ganks pre level 6 or if you have a strong crowd control jungler like Nautilus you can set up ganks level 6+

  • Annoying harass that's hard to avoid since you're melee
  • You have to get in close to do damage, which is exactly what Mordekaiser wants
  • You need to harass him with your Q before he can get his shield up
  • Avoid fighting him near minions or you will lose the trade
  • SET UP JUNGLE GANKS Mordekaiser has 0 crowd control or escapes

  • It will likely turn into a farm lane
  • If you get caught in a bind at level 6+ you will likely die from Morgana
  • Avoid binds and harass with your Q when you can
  • Look to gank side lanes as Morgana has mediocre roam

  • Some consider Orianna a counter, but it can snowball in either persons' favor
  • She has very good harass and her shield will negate a lot of your damage
  • It's important to only engage on her if you know you will win. It will be nearly impossible for you to retreat once you've engaged on her.
  • Harass her with Qs when it's safe to do so
  • I would look to gank side lanes rather than try to outplay her mid

  • Since you're melee he can win trades with his spell combo.
  • Can snowball into your favor if you get an early advantage, but Ryze becomes extremely strong as the game progresses
  • Ryze is a slow wave clearer and a mediocre roamer. Look to apply pressure with your ultimate on side lanes rather than trying to outplay him mid.

  • Absolute pain to deal with, one of the hardest counters to Pantheon
  • He has stronger harass than you throughout the game
  • His ultimate makes it difficult to kill him.
  • If you try to go aggressive on him you will have no way of escaping. Be sure you can kill him if you decide to go aggressive.
  • Set up jungle ganks and look to gank side lanes with your ultimate.

Taliyah will shove you into tower for the first few levels. There's not much you can do about it. Stand away from your minions so you don't get hit by her abilities as she wave clears the minions. Focus on last hitting and then match her early recall.

Ward the center of the lane to see where she's moving to go roam to once she wave clears.

If you can get push priority once you have Tiamat then you can start to control her and get roam priority first and set up picks and get vision control.

Twisted Fate

  • The difficulty of this matchup is completely dependent on both of the player's skill level.
  • That being said, Twisted Fate has the ability to shut you down and snowball
  • His ultimate counters your ultimate, but yours is on a lower cooldown which you should take advantage of
  • His long range makes it difficult for you to gap close without being kited
  • He can bait you into going aggressive for jungle ganks quite easily
  • A difficult lane that comes down to player skill and junglers

  • Really annoying harass
  • Can heal any of your harass
  • Can pool your E/Stun
  • You can snowball the lane into your favor if you outplay him
  • Vladimir has no crowd control, which means he has very weak ganks. Take advantage of this by applying pressure with your ultimate on side lane.

Yasuo is a good matchup for Pantheon since his stun locks Yasuo down and he doesn't have many skillshots Yasuo can juke.

Use your Q to proc his shield and wait for it to expire before you go in.

Stand away from your minions so you don't get hit by Zoe's Q while she uses it to push minions.

Don't bother trying to aggressive poke or trade with Zoe - she's too safe of a laner. Instead, focus on E spamming the wave to compete with the push going on. Eventually you'll be able to waveclear faster than her and can transition into looking for roams, picks, vision control, etc.

  • Can snowball hard into one person's favor
  • Zyra is squishy and can be bursted down, but you're also squishy early on. If you go aggressive Zyra can land all her skills and then kite you.
  • It's a difficult lane if you're against a good Zyra, but can still be won.
  • Focus on ganking side lanes rather than outplaying her mid lane

Early Game Back to Top

  • Your main focus should always be last hitting minions early on
  • You want to harass the opponent with your Q whenever you see a good opportunity to do so
  • You can go aggressive at level 2+ in certain matchups by using your stun to get a quick auto attack in and then disengage
  • Don't become so focused on harassing the opponent that you begin to miss last hits
  • Pantheon has an okay early game, but really shines mid game. You want to use this time to farm up and then apply map pressure once you're level 6+

Middle Game Back to Top

  • Pantheon is his strongest during the Middle Game
  • Pantheon's ultimate has a very low cooldown. It's important to apply pressure in side lanes with it
  • That being said, never force ganks that aren't there. Don't feel like you HAVE to use your ult just because it's up. Be patient and wait for the right opportunity or you'll start to lag behind in last hits.
  • Unless the enemy mid laner snowballed, this is often when Pantheon starts to become able to win 1v1 fights. Sometimes it's best to freeze the lane so you can zone the enemy mid laner if your ultimate is down.
  • If your ultimate is up it's usually best to shove the lane so the enemy won't have vision on you and so that once you ult to a side lane it will take longer for the enemy mid laner to take your tower.

Late Game Back to Top

  • You have to be very careful with Pantheon late game. He's able to do a huge amount of damage, but if doing so requires you to get close to the enemy, which often leaves you vulnerable.
  • Pick your spots and don't make the mistake of thinking you're a tank or a bruiser. You're an AD caster and a melee one at that. You need good positioning.
  • You can split push as Pantheon late game since your ultimate gives you so much mobility.
  • Be cautious of being baited into diving the AD carry. If they have cleanse, quick silver, etc. They will get out of your stun and kite you.
  • You can peel for your AD carry or other members of the team if they're fed and doing a lot of damage or you can dive the enemy carries if they're out of position. Pantheon is very unforgiving if you miscalculate a team fight since he has no escapes.

Pros and Cons Back to Top

  • Great harass early game with his Q
  • His stun allows him to set up jungle ganks really well
  • He has amazing ganks/map presence because of his ultimate
  • His ultimate has a low cooldown in comparison to Twisted Fate's ultimate
  • He has amazing burst middle game

  • Is a melee champion and that leaves him open to being harassed in lane
  • He has no escape
  • Can be very difficult to play him effectively late game if you build glass cannon

Warding Locations Back to Top

Warding Locations

Ward Locations.jpg
Note: This is from the perspective of Blue Side - meaning your Nexus is South. The exact same ward spots apply if you were Red Side - meaning your Nexus is North, except that the ward spots are simply rotated 180 degrees/mirrored.

1 - This is where you want to place your 2055.png as gaining vision control of the lane brush is very important. This is because the lane brush offers the most quickest and convenient location to place 3340.png for the enemy. By placing a 2055.png it denies the enemy this convenience. At the same time, it clears the most common area we'll be moving through when we roam. Lastly, it keeps our 2055.png close to us, which makes it easier to defend and harder for the enemy to get rid of.

2 - This is the optimal location for a 3340.png as it covers all the choke points for that side of the river. Additionally, it is hidden from 2055.png that are placed in the lane brushes. Keep in mind, this is just the most optimal, that doesn't mean it's always practical. It's okay to place your 3340.png in location 1 or somewhere between location 1 and 2 if you're unable to move any further due to safety or potential missed minions.

3 - This is the aggressive version of the 2nd ward location and should only be used when you have lane control and the enemy laner is forced to playing passive. It allows you to see when the enemy mid laner rotates to take blue buffs, jungle camps, roam, or react to one of your roams. At the same time, it spots junglers that are coming from raptors/wolves.

4 - This is a very powerful ward that can easily be placed after you push the mid laner into his tower. This gives you vision on the enemy's raptor camp. This can give you a wide range of information. For example, if you place this ward early on it tells you whether the enemy jungler is invading/ganking the side he started on or if he's doing a standard clear. When you spot the enemy jungler doing his raptors it relieves pressure off of everyone else as you know exactly where the enemy jungler it is. At the same time, that opens your own jungler to adjust his play accordingly. On top of that, just knowing that the jungler ISN'T doing his raptors can give you information on where he might possibly be.

5 - This is simply a better version of the 4th warding location. However, it's more time consuming, riskier, and overall more difficult to get a ward here. The reason why it's better than the 4th warding location is that you can see if the enemy's jungler is skipping raptors and which direction he's moving towards. I like to ward here when I have a big lead and I do it after I push a wave to pin the enemy mid laner at his tower.

6 - This is known as the lane ward and you might have seen it before. This is best used against champions that are looking to roam and is typically used when you've lost lane and are behind. It's especially strong against Twisted Fate due to the manner in which he ganks. Essentially, this ward will let you see which direction the enemy mid laner moves to after he kills the minion wave. In a way this gives you the benefits of warding both sides of your lane with only one ward: you get to see if he's ganking either side lane. However, you also get to see if the enemy is recalling or just standing at his tower. Keep in mind the main downside of this ward is that it doesn't protect you against other enemies ganking your lane.
