Summoner Spells Back to Top

Hey Summoners

Welcome to my Poppy guide! I have been playing Poppy ever since her rework (near the end of Season 5) and have accumulated over 500k mastery points on her. I play her in every role but mainly Top. Here I will explain in detail what summoners, runes, and items I prefer to use when I play Poppy.

YouTube (will put matchup videos in the future)

12.png: I would say TELEPORT is the most efficient summoner spell to run on Poppy top. The global pressure you provide with it is instrumental for the team when they are calling on objective control (ex. early dragon fights) or helping lanes.

14.png: Good for lane pressure. IGNITE is more of a selfish pick in my opinion and it doesn't really help outside of the laning phase. It is more of a preference.

New Runes Back to Top

Rune Setup

Grasp%20of%20the%20Undying.png?width=32- Grasp of the Undying is by far the best rune to pick out of the resolve tree. It gives you that trading potential that you need in lane (life steal + magic damage to enemy + permanent health). Why not Aftershock.png?width=32 or Guardian.png?width=32? Aftershock is a close second! It requires you to CC them in order for it to activate, which in some cases may be the case depending on the lane matchup. The positive side is that it is extremely useful in team fights as it does buff you quite a bit (armour and magic resist increase) and the shock damage after. Guardian is least likely to be picked due to it being more of a support rune.

Perseverance.png?width=32- Unflinching is favourable because of the tenacity and slow resist you get from using a summoner spell. This one is a preference pick, depending on your play style you can use the other two options.

Conditioning.png?width=32- Conditioning is worth it when the enemy team is a mix of physical and magic damage. Also it increases your total magic and armour by 5%. This one is a preference pick, depending on your play style you can use the other two options.

Overgrowth.png?width=32- Overgrowth is amazing because it gives you additional health (something Poppy really lacks) and it's never ending as well, so the longer the game goes the more health you will accumulate. Second%20Wind.png?width=32 I only get Second Wind if I'm playing in a losing match up or a poke lane (Teemo, Kennen, etc) I would say this rune pick and Doran's Shield together are good for maintaining survival in lane.

Secondary Rune Pick

Nullifying%20Orb.png?width=32- Nullifying Orb is by far the best secondary rune choice you can have. The extra magic shield makes you more of a tank and will save you in sticky situations.

Celerity.png?width=32- Celerity is good to have in top lane. Having the extra move speed can help you set up some good wall bangs, escaping ganks or even chasing down the enemy. A little extra move speed doesn't hurt the little yordle.

Scorch.png?width=32- Scorch is my go-to choice due to its good trading potential. I prefer this when I know I'm in a winning matchup and want to snowball myself.

In certain matchups it is good to get W second if they have any source of dash or if you are susceptible to ganks (aka if you push up really early).

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Normally I don't go Doran Shield unless you are in a losing matchup or if the enemy champion is ranged.
Good start. Really good for extensive trading because of the burn.

Core Items

Situational Items

Only if they have more the 1 or 2 CC. Usually having the Unflinching rune helps with tenacity.
Really good for late game to help the buff your ADC or whoever is fed.

The builds are not set in stone, they can change depending on enemy team composition. The best thing about playing Poppy is building what is best for yourself as a tank/disruptor and what benefits YOUR team. Watch my YouTube and Twitch for help with itemization.
