Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png : Standard, as always.

3.png : Generally, exhaust is the best choice as a secondary summoner spell. Despite its nerf, it still provides the most utility. I find it especially useful to stop enemies from turning on you while you wait for your team to follow up on your crowd control.

14.png : A more aggressive choice for early kill pressure. Rakan is generally more useful out of lane than in to so I personally don't recommend it.

Masteries Back to Top

Courage of the Colossus is by far the best keystone to take on Rakan. Running in to rakanr.png charm or rakanw.png knockup the enemy team puts you directly in harm's way. The massive shield from Courage in mid-late teamfights is what allows you to survive. Going 18 Resolve also gives you access to the tenacity from Swiftness, which is very useful.

Feel free to take Explorer or Recovery depending on the matchup.

rakanq.png : Gleaming Quill is a relatively inconsequential part of Rakan's kit. Its extremely low range makes it essentially impossible to harass other ranged supports with it, especially those in the current meta such as Karma and Lulu. Take it level 1 to have some semblance of trading potential and leave it for last in most cases.

rakanw.png : Grand Entrance is a very versatile skill which most of Rakan's combos depend on. Use it as a gap-closer, to initiate trades and pre-6 all-ins, to dodge skill-shots, and to scale terrain. Take it level 3 (or 2 if you have a strong all-in potential such as with 236.png Lucian) and max it second.

rakane.png : Battle Dance is probably the most core spell in Rakan's kit. Not only does it provide 2 shields for allies, but it also gives Rakan an absurd amount of mobility. Combined with rakanw.png Grand Entrance, you can dash to an enemy 1150 units away, knock them up, and still have a 550 range dash to escape. Take this level 2 or 3 and max it first.

rakanr.png : The Quickness is Rakan's core teamfighting mechanic. Run in to charm the enemy backline and knock them up for a total of 2-2.5 seconds of hard CC. Note that dashing through an enemy applies the charm so if you rakanw.png behind an enemy with rakanr.png R on, they will be charmed and unable to avoid the knockup!

3303.png  vs 3302.png vs 3301.png : Ancient Coin is really the only viable support item on Rakan. He can't make use of Relic Shield due to his ranged auto-attack and it's difficult to consistently get Tribute procs with Spellthief's Edge due to his low-ranges.

2302.png 3800.png vs 3069.png  2045.png : After building a Nomad's Medallion and Sightstone, you have 2 options: spend 2350 gold to upgrade those items into a Talisman and Ruby Sightstone or spend 2750 to combine them into an Eye of the Oasis and buy Righteous Glory. Righteous Glory gives you 35% more speed with its active than Talisman as well as an AOE slow. You will give up 45 armor and the team speed-up, but the trade-off is worthwhile.

Boots: 3111.png Merc Treads are usually the go-to choice. They provide an early source of MR and make it harder to shut-down Rakan's playmaking with CC. 3009.png Swifties are good against teams with little hard CC. 3047.png Tabis are good against full-AD teams. 3117.png Mobies are only good if you are snowballing and want to be able to roam frequently.

Support Items: I generally like to grab 3190.png Locket 3rd since rushing Eye and Righeous Glory don't provide any Armor or MR. The active shield is also extremely valuable in peeling for your team. 3109.png Knight's Vow is good to grab if your ADC is ahead or is under little threat from the enemy team. 3107.png Redemption is generally ok, but I usually will bypass it unless my team desperately needs more sustainability.

Example Builds:

  1. Normal 6 Items: 2302.png > 3800.png > 3111.png > 3190.png > 3107.png > 3026.png
  2. Versus Full AD:   3069.png > 2045.png > 3047.png > 3109.png > 3742.png > 3075.png
  3. Snowballing:      2302.png > 3800.png > 3117.png > 3056.png > 3504.png > 3026.png

VS

Karma

Hard

Karma's karmaq.png Q far outranges rakanq.png yours and she will use that to punish you in the laning phase. Her karmamantra.png Mantra karmasolkimshield.png Shield will help her team survive when you try to initiate.

VS

Lulu

Hard

She outranges you, can luluw.png polymorph you out of your rakanr.png ultimate, and can peel her allies extremely well with lulur.png Wild Growth and her lulue.png shield.

VS

Malzahar

Hard

Malzahar's malzaharpassive.png passive makes it hard to punish his aggressive positioning while his malzaharw.png Voidlings will prevent you from trading in lane whatsoever. In teamfights, he will easily malzaharr.png supress you before you can CC their team with rakanr.png your ultimate.
