Not having tp as a top laner can really hurt but due to rek sai having a global ult she can keep global presence whilst taking ignite which gives a huge amount of kill pressure in lane phase and a lot of bullying potential.

Taking warlords over grasp or fervor  is  something I've been doing for a long time, trust me the sustain is crazy. Since as rek'sai top lane you need to be constantly autoing creeps in order to build fury this mastery give a stupid amount of health. You lose some of the damage you'd get from fervor and grasp but its worth it. You can take terrible trades but still come out ahead due to the obnoxious amount of healing from both your passive and warlords.

Starting Items

    Aggro start (most games)
    often only need in ranged matchups but most the time blade start is better

Core Items

    Titanic gives similar amount of burst to ravenous hydra but gives more defense to survive high damage lanes, I rush this every game
    Has Great synergy with hydra and finishing it gives you a huge spike in damage, Finish before tank items if ahead.
    Get these usually after after titanic and bc, this is when your dueling really starts to be strong, if you cannot 1v1 your lane opponent go for tanky items instead of this
    in hard melee matchups (eg darius, irelia, riven ) don't be afraid to buy more dorans blades in the early game

Situational Items

    I get mercs or tabi most games, Swifties if really ahead
    A good item vs burst mages as it makes it very hard for ap champs to one combo you.
    Good for negating burst damage pretty good as third or fourth item if not building the pd
    Good in some situations with on hit hard CC e.g liss, tf, malzahar
    Seems like a really solid item to finish on to have some lifesteal other than warlords
    Gives you a stupid amount of damage late game but building it is very expensive and makes you very squishy
    A solid late game item that can save you from some big mistake, is often good as a final buy
    Better in games where you cannot dual your laner and have to help the team more
    has really good synergy with her kit so if you are really needed as a front line this is the most solid tank mr item to get

Unlike most matchups DO NOT FIGHT DARIUS LVL 1! even when you have ignite he can easily kill you if you fight him outright. In the match up you need to trade before he gets too many bleed stacks on you, if he hit max stacks you want to run. his apprehend can cancel tunnel so be careful about that

you must win lane in this matchup. You have a huge advantage in lane but the later the game goes the more gp will out scale. Try to shut him down as much as possible so that he never reaches late game.

Try to avoid the hyper proc and be careful of his burst at full rage. Rek sai is easily kited however if you manage to cancel hop with unburrow it will often result in a kill due to how squishy mini gnar is.

Super hard to deal with. Will often just be able to avoid your e and it's very hard to stay healthy against her poke. Try to survive laning and get kills in other lanes with your tp.

Hard to have much kill pressure on malphite since he's so tanky and E debuff hurts rek sai's trades really bad. Malphite teamfights so much better than rek sai that an even lane will likely result in a loss. Can still bully pretty hard by pushing waves into his tower for a big cs lead.

Renekton shares a lot of similar properties to rek sai as a top laner however renekton has a lot more power purely in his ability to bully lane whereas rek sai provides more global presence. The laning phase is difficult here since renekton out classes rek sai for damage sustain and CC which makes 1v1 against him very hard and a nightmare when behind.

This lane is VERY snowbally, both ways, be very careful early in this lane as whoever gets first kill can completely dominate either side of the matchup. Riven is much stronger than rek sai late however so try not to let the game drag out too long. 3rd broken wings can be negated with un-burrow.

+ Tons of sustain with passive 
+ Ult allows rek sai to take ignite without losing global pressure
+ E deals true damage 
+ The wave clear with Q  
+ W can reveal ganks 
+ Good tunnels can make it easy to escape ganks
+ Really safe and annoying split pushing 
+ Good roaming and can easily translate lead to other lanes

- Needs full fury for true dmg 
- Isn't too great when behind (easier to destroy tunnels too)
- Can be easily kited 
- Lots of nerfs hurt rek sai laning phase hard
- Bad late game

A few Rek'Sai mechanics to know Back to Top

  • Rek'sai un-burrow is a knockup with a very quick cast animation because of this there are a ton of champions that you can really abuse by canceling vital abilities, some examples - Lee sin 2nd Q, Rivens 3rd broken wings, lissandra E, WW ult (with amazing timing) 
  • You can build up more fury by hitting multiple enemies with q, Stand in the middle of creep waves to stack fury really fast
  • With this build you have 2 ways to reset auto, use Q reset followed by the Titanic hydra reset for huge burst damage
  • You can see tunnels being stomped even if you have no vision, pay attention to this as it can give you vital information about the enemy junglers whereabouts 

Playstyle Back to Top

In the most ideal games of top lane rek'sai the focus is on crushing top lane. Try to abuse an advantage using the ignite. If you get a lead in lane zone your laner off cs as much as possible or shove them repeatedly to force them to farm under tower. with a lead you can quite consistently get first tower blood. When the enemy top is behind they will be forced to teleport to their own tower making the summoner spell useless for helping their team during laning phase. If you kill the first tower try your best to get a rift herald buff as it makes your split much more threatening. Also after tower is down take farm in the enemy jungle after shoving the lane for more gold denial. You should easily be able to flame horizon your laner if you get ahead. 

There are some situations however when you cannot abuse a lead like this. When you are in a bad matchup or have been put behind just try to last hit whatever you can, if you are really behind build tank straight after titanic hydra as you will not get to a point where you can apply pressure in a 1v1. 


Late game try to have tunnels in all 3 lane and near neutral objectives, you do not have tp so the ult must serve as your teleport, your team fighting is underwhelming if you don't flank anyway so try to push other lanes until a fight breaks out.
