Preface

Ok, so this is 7.22, preseason, with which come new runes, replacing the old runes AND masteries system.
It's pretty great, and there's a LOT of viable things, actually everything seems viable, any combination anf paths are really interresting.

I REALLY advice you to read them all, take an hour or two, learn them by heart, and you will start seeing how cool they are.

Build your runes in game lobby

Building runes after picking your champ and while having the enemy composition in front of you was cool, but you always built barely differently from a game to another. Now more than ever, building your runes while knowing the enemy comp, yours and your champ will make you way stronger. 
For instance, if you go Precision into Resolve, you want to take Triumph and Conditionning, exept if you have a healing support like Soraka or Sona where you want to go Overheal and Iron skin.

Buildig runes in pregame lobby instead of in the launcher is a little theorycrafting demanding, but if you know the runes by heart and have builds in mind you'll get used to it really quickly! Give it a try!

There I'll explain my thoughts on every runes in each section. As you can see above I've built a page for every branch, first keep in mind that I'm hardly playing a game a week for a year now, so I'm a little late on meta, etc... but also that this patch is new and I don't have absolute knowledge of every exploit or awesome combination.

Keystones :

Rek can be played with 3 keystones in jungle, I'll place them by popularity:

The most played at the moment, I think it really is not this good compared to the three last ones because Rek's way of being played is oscillating in and out of the fights, which unstacks the fervor. Still most play it and it is good in term of aggression. Imo, it's a good early/mid masterkey but really sucks later on.

This keystone is still being played, but I think it's only because of the inertia of the players. Rek'Sai is now a Damage dealer and not a tank anymore, so playing 12/0/18 is not that good. Still, if you want to 12/0/18 or 0/12/18 ( disgusting ) this keystone is the best for Rek !

Since Rek is a bruiser/finisher and she can burst, Thunderlord is a good choice, which complements well with her basic combo ( Q/W/AA/(Q)/AA/AA/AA/E ). Still, going for 12/18/0 is really ham and 0/18/12 lacks of damage, but it's the best mastery to go with in these compositions.

Masteries worth on Rek :

FEROCITY
  • Fury is way better than Sorcery. 
  • Fresh Blood is strong as a jungler. Feast if you have trouble clearing. Exposed weakness is useless.
  • Natural Talent is bonus stats. Vampirism is useless with Rek thanks to her passive.
  • Double Edged Sword as you are the threat. Battle Trance is for Tank'Sai. Bounty Hunter for low elo if you are able to solo carry. Still, it's not a reason to steal kills from the laners/carries.
  • Battering Blow because Rek is physical. Piercing Thoughts is for mages.
  • Fervor of Battle. 

CUNNING

  • Savagery is cool for cleaning (would take it). Wanderer is fun for ganking/roaming but slightly useless
  • Runic Affinity is pretty handy. Secret Stash is useless with Rek'Sai's passive. Assassin is useless.
  • Merciless is cool. Meditation is useless because Rek doesn't have mana points
  • Dangerous Game is theperfect mastery for a melee/tanky champ. Greenfather's Gift is bad and Bandit is useless anyway.
  • Precision is strong (synergises well with lethality and % penetration). Intelligence is cool but 30% is enough and Precision is way better.
  • Thunderlord's Decree is strong with Rek's combo.


RESOLVE

  • Both Recovery and Unyielding are useless. I take Recovery over because it help a tiny bit in very early (first gank with slightly more HP). Unyielding is useless as hell as it gives flat armor the more armor you have, which means nothing as armor is logarithmic. 
  • Tough Skin it's so useful in the jungle (especially for corbins). Explorer helps ganking and counter-jungling (but expect to back more often than with TS). Siegemaster is really useless.
  • Runic Armor is MANDATORY because Rek's passive's regeneration is one of her main mecanics. Veteran's Scars only gives flat HP, which is useless due to Rek's high base stats.
  • Insight allows a lot of plays with the Flash and is cool for jungling (smite faster). Perseverance is not that good, so is Fearless.
  • Swiftness is handy because Rek can get kited a lot. Legendary Guardian is fun if you are full AD+HP but not that good.
  • Courage of the Collossus allows you to dive into the enemy team in the late game, and helps with trades in early game.

Builds :

-For Standard AD bruiser build you want to go for 18/0/12

-A more agressive/bursty stuff is 12/18/0 with Thunderlord's Decree, still care of being one-shoted. 

-Tanky (or full tank) as 12/0/18 or 0/12/18, just tank and it'll be OK. Do not expect invades if you're not secured at all with your team holding up those masteries though.

Why these keystones are useless :

6161.png :
Rek doesn't build crit, so the passive won't work very well, she often engages so the instant health regen would be useless and the bonus movespeed is really nothing on a mele considering her CC.

6164.png:
Scales well only if you build REALLY full AD, which is bad on Rek, also doesn't work on her Q (unburrowed) wihch is her main spell.

6261.png :
Laner keystone, useless in the jungle and in ganks compared to Courage of the Colossus. 

6263.png :
Rek has very few CC and works by herself, this is why you won't take this mastery.

6361.png :
Sound very strong on Rek but hopefully for the ennemies bursting 30% HP that quickly is pretty impossible past 15 minutes. Still, you can consider this mastery if you go for a full burst Rek (Drakthaar, aso...) which I don't recommend.

6363.png :
Rek can't heal/shield allies. Moreover, the 10% regen bonus is not important compared with the other keystones' effects.

THE QUEEN'S REBIRTH

  • Rek's passive is VERY strong. It's one of her main mechanics to play with.
  • It scales really well with some masteries, helps a lot in the jungle (Rek's first viability is to jungle and then gank full HP (or almost)) and also saves life more then expected. 
The way it works is simple :
  1. As you auto attack or hit with a spell (except burrowed Q), you stack 25 fury.
  2. As burrowed your fury will unstack 33 by 33 each second, healing through this process. 
  3. It heals 20 - 190 HP (lvl 1 - 18) (100% fury) in 3 seconds.
  • Fury synergies with W.
  • Be sure to regen whenever you are 100% (especially while killing the jungle's camps) to sustain. Use it while waiting for CDs too (Q and on_enemy bump cooldown).
  • What you mainly want to do with Rek'sai is combo (Qb/W/aa/Q/aa/aa/E/aa) then retreat through a tunnel to regen with the passiv and come back to do the same thing.

THE QUEEN'S DANCE 

Q Unburrowed :

  • Main damage source from Rek. AA enhancer.
  • 15/ 20/25/30/35 (+0,4 extra AD) physical damages added to basic AA.
  • Q is the spell to max first. (It's possible to take a second level into Q @lvl 3 instead of her E because it helps much in the jungle, do it if you don't plan to gank early). Still, Rek's role is to gank fast and put pressure all over the map, taking E @ lvl 3 is the most viable option now on.
  • Rek's Q is a reset auto-attack timer, that means you always have to put an AA before your Q to maximise your damages.

THE QUEEN'S SPEAR

Q Burrowed :

  • Poke spell with a really long range and fast speed that deals an area of damage when it connects.
  • 60 / 90 / 120 / 150 / 180 physical damages + 0.4 extra AD ratio and 0.7 AP ratio.
  • Gives vision of whatever it hits (including stealth enemies) for few seconds. Complements well tremor sense. 
  • Can be used to proc the ultimate's passive and R a long range target.
  • While burrowed, always use your Q before unburrow to get 200 extra physical damage in a fight or duel. Helps a lot.

THE QUEEN'S HIDEOUT

W Unburrowed :

  • Stance changing spell.
  • Makes you burrowed, changing you E to tunnel maker spell and Q to vision/poke spell.
  • Disables basic attacks except on plants, which is a really strong feature. Still, attacking a plant will make you unburrow and proc the CD of the spell.
  • Gives 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 extra movespeed
  • Gives you Tremor sense which is a new kind of vision that only Rek'Sai has. Tremor is a sonar that gives you the position of moving enemies nearby. The range is displayed by the circle around Rek when she is burrowed and is the same as Q's range while burrowed. Be careful : immobile enemies are invisible to you unless you have an ally nearby or you stand right under them. Use your Q to spot them if you know where they are.
  • The cooldown to unburrow is 1 second.
Always max it last.

THE QUEEN'S SHOCK

W Burrowed :

  • Stance changing spell.
  • Makes you unburrowed, changing you Q to AA enhancer and E to a damaging bite.
  • Bumps the closest enemy for 1 second, and pushes back all other enemies standing on you. The enemy bumped cannot be CC again with your W for 10 seconds. Does not affect pushed back enemies.
  • The bumps deals 50 / 65 / 80 / 95 / 110 physical damages + 0.8 extra AD ratio.
  • Cancels ANY dash which is a hard to master technic that rewards extraordinary well. More details in the tips section that you should really read!
  • Makes you loose tremor sense.
  • Activates the spell cooldown of 4 seconds.
  • [7.14 : No longer diferenciates manual and auto unburrow]

THE QUEEN'S KISS

E Unburrowed :

  • Deals melee physical damages.
  • 50 / 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 Physical damages + 0.85 extra AD ratio.
  • Deals twice the damages as  True Damages when used at 100 Fury. Also gives 25 Fury when dealing damage if you're below 100.
  • Use it right after an auto attack to pass its animation while you can't auto attack.
  • Use it at the end of a combo, aka at max fury exclusively. You should do a (burrowed) Q-W-AA-(Q)AA-AA-E-AA combo.
  • Max it after Q for extra damage and cooldown reduce on bite, tunnel, and tunnel reuse.

THE QUEEN'S WALTZ

E Burrowed :

  • Rek's Dash ability, that leaves a tunnel at the dash location. No damages.
  • Leaves a tunnel entrance at the beginning of the dash and at the end of it. This created tunnel can be reused to dash 10 / 8 / 6 / 4 / 2 seconds after a precedent use.
  • Tunnels lasts 10 minutes. Enemies can destroy it earlier by standing on it for a couple of seconds, in this case you will see, even in the fog of war, one of the tunnel's entrance bubbling (perfect moment for a burrowed Q). You can use the tunnel while it is being destroyed, pretty neat for gank/camp on lanes.
  • Tunnels are marked on your minimap by couples of violet dots, symbolising the entrances.
  • In late game, you want to dive squeashiest enemies with you tunnels, do a (burrowed) Q-W-AA-(Q)AA-AA-E-AA combo, then leave through your tunnel to regen with your passive, and then start again.
  • The cooldown of tunnelling is 26 / 23 / 20 / 17 / 14 seconds, which is big and should be considered at anytime you want to gank, counter jungler or escape.

THE QUEEN'S RUSH

R both Burrowed and Unburrowed :

  • Really strong finisher ability.
  • Passively marks any target hit by Rek's damages (spells, AA or even smite!) for 5 seconds.
  • Can be used only on marked target.
  • Enabled both burrowed or not.
  • Rek'Sai will leap on the target dealing 100 / 250 / 400 physical damages + 1.6 extra AD + 20/25/30 % missing health. Cooldown of 100 / 80 / 60 seconds. 1500 Range.
  • Rek'Sai is unstoppable during her ultimate.
  • The Dash divides in two parts : .35 seconds happens, then she disappears and become untargetable (not invulnerable) for .75 seconds, and then leap on her target dealing the damages at the impact.
  • You can cancel turret agro with your ultimate.
  • You will reappear on your target whenever ut is (except if it back (with baron)), even if it flashes and so on...

Building

Early : 

  • 1041.png Start machete for health regen.
  • (2031.png)or(2003.pngx3) take pots if you wanna gank quickly (more heal and viability in the jungle) or flask if you're planning to get quickly the hunter's pot.

first backs :
  • 1039.png or 3706.png based on your current gold pool.
  • 1001.png take these early
  • 2055.png try to put vision on the map the whole game.
  • 2032.png the hunter's potion is not required at all since Rek'Sai has a lot of regen. You may still take it at it gives your extra HP in fights.
Then :
  • Rush 3077.png asap, then build 3071.png, finish 1400.png and build either 3748.png or 3742.png depending on if you're fed or they are.
Trinkets :
  • 3364.png better than 3341.png. Deny vision.
  • 3340.png better than 3363.png too. Get vision. Blue still usefull if you're not used to Treamor sense vision.

AD Build (in build order) :

  • 3071.png
  • 3047.png or 3111.png depending on their comp.
  • 1400.png or 1412.png is the main item to complete as AD Rek'Sai.
  • 3748.png and 3742.png, order depending on the game.
  • 3142.png or 3156.png or 3065.png or 3194.png or 3078.png
  • Try hybrid stuff out as these so you get tanky and get really lots af ad. 3053.png is more defensive.
  • When your stuff will be completed, you'll detroy anyone and will have some HP, but still you are going to be quite squishy, take care of being One-shoted if you jump in or kited to death.

Tank (in build order) :
  • 1401.png for trades or 1409.png for vision. Cinderhulk helps in the jungle and the extra will help you all game long.
  • 3047.png or 3111.png depending on their comp.
  • 3748.png Titanic gives a huge burst, HP pool and cleave. Core build
  • Now you have to build some tackiness items. 3065.png for RM+10%cdr+healthregen on rek's passive. 3742.png or 3143.png depending on if you need a mid-fight slow with crit reduction or a engage slow and more polyvalent tankyness. 3075.png is strong. 3083.png cool though.
  • When you got your stuff completed you'll have enough dmg to solo kill, enough tankyness to tank... almost everything in teamfight. still, care of being kited.




Jungler items and enchant

You have the choice between four items : 
- Tracker's Knife : Quite of a good item if you plan going tank and rush for vision. though I prefer Stalker's for more versatility.
Stalker's Blade : Way my favorite, allows chase and easier bump on slowed target.
- Skirmisher's Sabre : Pretty good jungler item, allows easy 1v1 and teamfight tankyness (smite the ADC in teamfight).


There is also a choice to make between four enchants :
- Magus : AP thing, forget it
- Devourer : Not viable imo.
- Warrior : for solo carry, really huge early game taking this.
- Cinderhulk : for Tank stuff explained above. Built for the HP more than for the sunfire. Helps jungling.


3078.pngTrinity 

The trinity is a really good item on Rek' BUT, it's really (really (really)) expensive. You may take it as it gives you a HUGE power spike, but only if you're fed, or you will hardly follow the pace of the game. (only the mana is wasted).
it gives :
  • 40% AS, which is huge in term of damage boost for Rek's combo.
  • 250 HP, really worth with the tanky(HP) keystone.
  • 25 AD.
  • THE 20% CDR which, with the AD jungler item or the Spirit leads to 30%, a turning point for Q spamming and team bumping.
  • The bonus dmg after the bump helps a lot.
  • 5% MS, really great, combined with Rage, wich is quite strong !
STILL, if you wanna buy it, be SURE to have a lead in the game, or you'll be very late in the game !

Which kind of stuff should I take ?

Check out above, three archetypes of stuff are presented:
- Standard : This is the one you should take each time you wanna carry a game which is going normally, that means no one is feeding or your team gets a little bit fed. Your role will be to Help them getting fed and punishing every opponent getting to close of your tunnels. Focus on drakes and tower, and everything should work correctly to get a victory !
- Tank : If in champ select, you see your team getting really squishy and damage dealer picks, go for 12/0/18 masteries and build tank, with cinderhulk and so on. Your role will be to take every damage on your face and bump the correct targets in teamfights. Take care, you'll have 0 damages and you'd better play something like Sej if you want a full tank, however it's still viable (in my opinion) if your team is good enough ^-^.

Hey, if you check out the matchups section you may wonder of the way I writed it, here are some explanations :

First point :

Most of the time, if I use this icon : reksaiE.png It means the burrowed E which is Rek's DASH

Most of the time, if I use this icon : reksaiW.png It means the unburrow ( = bump ) mechanic.

so if I write this : reksaiW.png > khazixE.png , it means that you can cancel Kha's khazixE.png by bumping him up with your reksaiW.png.
and if I write  : threshE.png > reksaiE.png , it means that Thresh's threshE.png cancels Rek's DASH .


Second point :

I've edited almost every matchup in League of Legends, however I have not absolute knowledge of each one (Rek Gragas is probably the one I know the most, but Anivia/Rek has appened to me only once, and I was completely fed so this matchup may not be perfectly accurate.) I've written each mathup in a defensive way, but if you're fed you can consider trading or whatever when I advice not to.


Third point :

Match ups have lots of component as 'are you in teamfight or 1v1/2v2 trade' or 'is it a laner of the other jungler' aso. I've commented the match ups for the champions main role in the current meta, but it changes on the enemy build/ key-m and lots of other things too, so take these explanations as "if you don't know him this is what to expect".
Also for teamfighters I've only commented on the teamfight position, so you'd be able to 1v1 them more.
Also Rek is a teamfighter too (kinda roamer/ganker too but teamfighter at the first place), so this is the reason that a lot of mathups have been considered as "hard" in 1v1 ( as a matchup ) but changes a lot in teamfight (for a caitlynn for example) so you can re-think of the matchups depending on the situation. It's now yours to think and decide :3

Spend your time Burrowed!

You must spend more than 80% of the game burrowed ! :D

Actually, except when you are farming in your jungle or attacking a champion in a gank, being burrowed is way better than not. Reasons :
  • Tremor sense : This new kind of vision is quite hard to get used to, but really strong when mastered. It allows you to see through walls, and see further than normal vision. Also cool to counter gank or avoiding counter ganks.
  • Regen : As burrowed you'll loose 10 fury each second and heal up for it (if you got only 5 it heal you half). Try to burrow in fight if you can't attack so you'll regen few HP and get vision of invisible things. As you flee burrow too so you may regen a lil bit and survive to a Ezreal's ult for example. 
  • Movement speed : Rek'Sai gets 15/20/25  (W @ 1/3/5) movement speed, allowing faster roaming and better ganks.
  • Q = nidalee spear : Rek's Q while burrowed is a long range skill shot, hitting in AOE. IT GIVES VISION, so you can pass over Tremor sense's weaknesses. While you're burrowed you'll not have a perfect vision on the enemy you're trying to hit with your Q, then try aiming a little bit before  the tremor sense mark and anticipate your opponent's movements. Cool to poke though, and trigger Rek's ult mark !
  • TUNNELS : Spending your time burrowed is really useful for the tunnels, if you get caught ( or are going to be, and you know it thanks to your tremor sense ) you can instantly E out to safety, instead of having a small casting time to get burrowed and E out then. This is the best reason to stay burrow with the tremor sense.
  • unburrow :D : being always burrowed allows you to bump anyone whenever he's on you, check out the mechanics below !
ALWAYS GANK BURROWED !! Ganking burrowed should look like either of these most of the time :
  1. Dash Through a wall with you E while burrowed to stand between the enemy and his tower, Q him then unburrow (try to cancel his dash if he got one), standard combo after the bump and it should work !
  2. Come from behind the enemy and wait for his flash or dash to dash on him, then bump him. If he got a flash and a dash you can flash bump his face down to the ground. Unburrow mechanics below.


Unburrow Mechanics

All of Rek's unburrow mechanics are where the plays can be done. Mechanics :
  • UNBURROW MANUALLY ! To unburrow manually, press W while burrowed. When you'll start playing Rek, you'll not get the way to unburrow as fast as you can master Pantheon, However as you'll master this spell, you'll quickly notice that unburrowing manually is way better than doing it automatically [it's not anymore since 7.14, but keep manual it, so you get fast with it]. It allows you to hit an extra auto attack [worth in auto too now] and then reset you AA timer with your Q, before the enemy even lands. If you unburrow automatically you can't land an extra AA before your Q because the animation is longer and cannot be canceled as the manual unburrow one [You now can]. 
  • Check out the CIRCLE around Rek while she's burrowed, this is the range of your max bump E. That means, when someone will be within the AOE, when you'll unburrow, the enemy will be bumped. The enemy which is the most in the center gets bumped up, the other ones get bumped away. You have 60 aditiannel range to bump away.
  • CANCEL DASHES ! each stoppable dash (that means each one except Malp's ult, Vi's ult, Hecarim's ult, Kalista's ult's projectile, Sion's ult, aso...) can be canceled by bumps, especially Rek's. The only hard thing in cancelling is the timing, use manual unburrow at the exact moment the one dashing is on you ( that means on your bump zone ) to cancel him. Q attack on the ground at the exact moment (or quite earlier) works too, but take care of your "enemy environment" or Rek will head to creeps or whatever.
  • Extremely hard to do trick [I recently found in a game ; bug ??] : You can bump someone that is melee to you while dashing [explanations] : an enemy is on you, burrow and at the same time auto-attack him, as you just clicked on him (while you just burrowed) dash under him and you'll see your Rek'Sai burrowing, bumping and then dashing while unburrowed (quite fun). try it out on creeps until you get to do it (still, I'm not sure this is going to be really useful in game). 

Jungling and Ganking Back to Top

The Jungle

Rek'Sai is a really strong jungler. She has a really fast clear with a lot of sustain. Her main strenght if to apply pressure on the entire map and cleaning at the same time. The points you have to focus on while playing Rek are :
  1. Jungling/cleaning and over all securing your buffs (red for you and blue for the midlaner). You can always have a lead in farm on your opponent with Rek.
  2. Ganking and feeding your mates, you may take some kills early but most of the time take two and leave what's left (do not take any lane kills as playing Rek Tank). Also camping top in very early or mid just as staying close to it (anf farming scuttles) is very strong so you can deny a lot of gold from the enemy laner.
  3. Trace the enemy jungler. Put wards, anticipate his movements and countergank him. Steal his buffs ( take care as you wanna steal a buff : always keep your tunnel to flee if you got caught and do NOT use it just to get to this faster, in general, do never stand in the enemy jungle without your dash or you may be in huge troubles)

Jungle path :

These are the "normal" ( no cheese or whatever ) paths of jungling for Rek. [7.15]

1:
  • Start the bottom buff with your botlane. (smiteless).
  • Go straight to your top buff, smite it.
  • Gank toplane.
  • Do scuttle, re-gank, top camps (krong/raptor or Gromp/wolves), re-gank/camp top.
2:
  • Start the bottom buff with your botlane. (smiteless).
  • Do raptors with smite (health regen).
  • Second buff.
  • Gank lvl 3

Here is a short video I upluoaded a while ago that shows up an old jungle but that still explains what are the important cleaning mechanics (as burrow midcamp). You should check it out a bit :



The Rift Gerald :

You should do it quickly as he spawns (really OP)
The summon is really usefull to force top while doing dragon and taking towers.
However the herald is really hard to kill.
Still, with Rek'Sai, you may be able to fight it with only one or two allies. Try to sneak it early as your top and mid pushes, still, take care because a fight against the enemy team at herald's may be the end of the game.


Jungle tips : 

For the camps : Always get yourself in the center of the camp before engaging it. Also, always engage the camp burrowed, use your Q and at the same time unburrow, so you get max damage output on the camp. (Other tips explained in the video's annotations.)

For the Drake : send him a burrowed Q when engaging him, and dash as he open his wings, so you won't get bumped out and win some extra seconds.

The plants :

Plants are kinda strange for Rek'Sai, it's really useful though. You have to unburrow in order to activate it with an auto. Make sure to activate blue plants heading the enemy jungle in order to spot their jungler (the enemy sees you can see him).
The most useful plant is the red when you are BlueSide that pops the other side of the drake pit. It allows you to jump to the drake, steal it with your smite and tunnel back to your side of the map (care for cc !)


The Ganks

The Queen is Angry and wants food.

Ganking for Rek is as important as jungling. It's one of her early main power. As explained in the "Burrow section" they are few ways of ganking. Here's the way to do :
1.
  • Come from the back of the enemy laner (if you can)
  • KEEP YOUR DASH UNTIL HE FLASHES OR DASHES. there is no need to dash if it's to loose distance between you and the direction the laner will want to flee (espacially top, when the enemy pushes, take the concave of him and his direction (for a Renek as example, try to put yourself between him and the direction he wants to dash to, so you can easily cancel his dash) and dash only if he's out of range AND close to the escape point than you are.
  • Once again, CANCEL DASHES, it's one of the main reason Rek's so good at ganking.
  • put a ward when leaving, of before reaching the lne so you are sure there will be nop counter ganks. Still, Rek is huge in very early and the counter ganks are mostly for Rek and his mate, but take care, it can mess up really easily.
2.
  • If you can't come from behing the enemy, dash closer to it and use your flash at the end of it (exept if you already had the possibility to bump him). Flash bump is done by MANUAL UNBURROW (check out the burrow section), press F(or Flash key) and W at almost the exact same time, the bump will come instantly and will be unflashable.
In general both of these ganking methods will result in a kill for you or the laner. If the gank is quite messy don't be afraid to auto hit the enemy as much as you can, even if you take the kill, to secure it.
Try to give every ganking kill to the laner after you being 2/0 or more. (give half the kills if you're playing AD Rek'Sai as explained above.)

Tunnelling: The Map you shall control Back to Top

Make the map yours.

Tunnels :

Rek'Sai third most important feature is her Tunnels.


Rek'Sai is limited to 8 tunnel at the same time in the game. You can see the number of tunnels on the map on your E.
Each stands for 10 minutes until it auto destroys.
When you are at 8 tunnels, a new one will destroy the first you've placed.
A tunnel has a cooldown between you to take it twice depending on your E lvl. (from 12 to 4 s).

Most of the time, you want to get you tunnels this way (tunnels in Red, ganking path before tunnelling in orange. [sorry for making that on paint]) :

On this map stand the most viable tunnels in term of control and mobility.
(I've done this as if you were playing top side, because I think Rek'Sai top is a lil bit more strong than Rek Bot side. Almost every tunnel has his mirror match if you are playing Blue Side, exept some really important one (as n°1)

Explanation :

Tunnel n° 1 : In my opinion, this tunnel is the most viable on Red Side. Use it to gank way faster from the river and keep an escape way if you'r getting chased after. Dodge scuttle vision while going mid. Place it whenever you can.
Tunnels n°2 : These are just about mobility in your own jungle, but it makes your cleaning way faster so you can put pressure on the lanes and outfarm the other jungler. If three tunnels are to many for you to keep in your own jungle, the most important is the Red/Raptors one.
Tunnel n°3 (the closest one to the river) : this one is huge to gank a pushing botlane, or flee if the fight goes wrong, no one can flash or whatever to chase you as you take this tunnel. Also it's really difficult for the ennemy to remove such a tunnel without getting engaged.

The tunnels you will place at different places will get destroyed really quickly, but by putting vision on it you may get some kills. In other words, protect your most valuable tunnel !

Teamfighting : Peel or Dive? Back to Top

Mainly, a Rek'sai has two purposes : peeling both carries or diving into theirs.

Here I'll explain how to master either and when to peel or dive.

Peeling :

You want to peel when :
  • You're in (very) late game.
  • The enemy carries (adc mainly) destroys you and his support/peeler makes it impossible for you to touch him, because they're either fed or you're late on your build.
  • Their carries and assassins are a great threat to your carries.
  • They have got huge tanks your carries can't handle on their own, even with their supp.
  • Some one in their team is extremely fed and wants to destroy your backlane. CC>him.
How to peel :
  • Stay burrowed, even in fight, as long as your knock up annoys the enemy diver. Get ready to cancel dashes or their off tanks and fighter/cc dealer. As long as you are in front of your adc burrowed, a Gragas -for instance- won't be able to dash/ult, which protects your adc from dying, and often secures the game.
  • Take the skillshot for your ally not to take it! This is probably the most important thing to do when you peel. Remeber : You are an offtank, and your carries are chips. 100 damage you take is 350 they do not.
  • Privilege CC over damages. Your main role as a peeler is to allow your carries to deal massive damage. As a tank you won't as much as they will. If your carry survives it's won !
  • Sacrifice yourself if needed, adc shall prevail, but remeber to always ult before dying in late game : no CD and free damage, smite to trigger the mark !
Don't peel if :
  • They have got so many AOE your carries dies to it whatever you do.
  • You can dive so well it will protect your carries even more.
  • Your carries are too late on their build it's pointless to sacrifice your damages for theirs.

Diving :

Often, The best defence is attack.
[Warning : when you dive you'll often die]
You want to dive when :
  • You're fed enough to threaten them even in 1v3.
  • You handle the adc/mage really easily and can deal with their CC
How to dive :
  • Try to flank them with your tunnels.
  • Focus the champ that deals the most damage.
  • Force the CCs on you by being extremely aggressive.
  • Force flashes and heals/barriers on their carries (aggressive flashes, aso...)
  • If you kill at least one of their carries, your job's done, it you kill two of them, it's won. If you killed both carries, get back to peeling yours, because tanks will still be there.
  • Stay close to tunnels in fight, as you can dash out, regen and re-dive !
Don't dive when :
  • The carries can kill you before you can.
  • Their supp has so many CC you can't touch the adc (I won't name anyone, Thresh...)
  • Your carries are fed. Peel instead.
  • You don't have a good opening onto their carries.
Choosing either to peel or dive in teamfight depends on the situation. It's the most important choice to make when playing a tank. Play it wisely !

Hey boys and girls, I've been starting writing this guide in 5.7, that means a long time ago, but I wanted it to be perfect and had a hard time putting it online (released on 5.12).
However I'll still try to update it correctly!

Hey Boys and Girls, I'm Startresse and 19 (april 2017).

I'm French. c:

421_64.png Is my main season V, and I find her as funny as powerful to play, and I still enjoy playing her.
I've reach PLATINIUM I 86LP once (diamond was so close :'() at my best. I went straight from GOLD IV season V playing 421_64.png . I also play 254_64.png and 62_64.png and 79.png (and 1_64.png in ranked 3v3, but you're not supposed to know this.)

432.png is also my main supp, and the champ I ever had the most fun with <3 < div>

SEASON V STORY

I got GOLD IV after the 10 placement games, from GOLD II last season. I made some solo and duo Queues. Then I met 421_64.png, and firstly, I did not like her that much. After a lot of games and some buffs, I fell in love with 421_64.png (but I love my girlfriend more c:). I played 421_64.png over and over again for more than 100 games . I made 64 wins for 39 losses, ie 67 % winrate. which is quite huge actually. I also got a 9.4/6.2/12.1 KDA, ie 3.48/1 KA/D at the end of Season V.
I spammed 421_64.png in games and "Hey Guys, Playing jungle With Rek'Tum, I'm a jungler :D" in champion select.

This is the true power of 421_64.png (this is an old build I used to carry with.
Imo it's not viable anymore with the new devourer aso, but you can try it if you want, it's fun.) :

Before S5


In the past

I played during the beta, reaching lvl 12 and leaving the game for few years. Teemo and Master Yi shall always stay in my heart. I did not really get an awesome feeling about LoL at this period ( I was too unskilled, and also too young. )

Season 3

This is where I reached lvl 30 and played ranked for the first time. 238_64.png was my main and I was playing him top and mid. I reached... BRONZE V. YEAY.
For long I played assassins, and failed. ( 238_64.png was the only one I could win with.) Then I met 33_64.png and got to SILVER (I'm not sure, but IV I guess).

Season 4

I got Silver V after my placement games, and reached GOLD II in almost a mounth. Then, I stayed blocked in Gold II for the rest of the season T.T

Season VI

I got to plat I this season in very few games. I can't play much because of my studies, so I couldn't get to diamond. I hope I'll reach it season 7.  ^-^
