Masteries Back to Top

(COC) 12-0-18: This is if you want to be a front line tank, this was strong prior to the Rek'sai changes as she was used as a knock up bot in fights. Still probably good, her unburrow reksaiw.png is almost always a guaranteed knockup, so you will get the Courage of the Colossus (COC) 6262.png proc every time giving yourself a shield that will help you survive your initiation.

(Fervor) 18-0-12: Damage focused Rek'Sai, may be stronger now that shes more of a bruiser/fighter. With her high attack speed, getting fervor stacks will be easy, and help her sustain damage after you use your initial burst
(Q reksaiq.png, E reksaie.png ).

Potentially swap about a couple masteries in both paths. Veterans Scar's 6232.png and Runic Armor 6231.png both work. Bounty Hunter 6141.png can be swapped with Battle Trance 6143.png or Double Edged Sword 6142.png, depends on how confident you are to get kills.

*Either Q reksaiq.png or E  reksaie.png max works. The Q reksaiq.png damage you get is only 5 damage per auto per level up of the ability, whereas if you max your E (tunnel) the cooldown is drastically lower which allows you to both pressure around the map, and duck in and out of fights. On top of that, the true damage you get off of your E reksaie.png will increase.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

    Depends on how hard it is to stick to enemy champions.
    Any of them work. Trackers less so for solo queue.
    Good damage and tank stats.
    Armor: Depends on matchup.
    Magic Resist: Depends on matchup.
    Boots: Depends on matchups.
    Example tank Rek'Sai final build.
    Example damage Rek'Sai build.
    Cleaver is pretty standard for tankiness as well as damage.

Situational Items

    Testing how good Youmuu's is. Rek'Sai damage now scales with bonus AD so it may be good on her.
    Will allow you to go in without dying, you can engage for your team especially if you are building damage.
    Similar to GA, allows you to engage and survive, better on tank Rek'Sai because active will scale with your defenses.
*Patch 7.14:
-
Build cinderhulk 1401.png. (Any smite upgrade will do depending on situation). This item is insane on this patch, although other meta tank jungler such as Sejuani 113.png, Zac 154.png, and Chogath 31.png can abuse this item more than Rek'Sai 421.png, it is still very strong on her.

Builds very from game to game. Just adapt to whatever your team needs, if you have no front line, or engage, you might have to go the Cinderhulk 1401.png tank build, or even Warrior 1400.png tank build. If not you can build as a bruiser with Cleaver 3071.png and Hydra 3748.png.

I only recommend high damage build if you are snowballing pretty hard, or else your damage will fall off as well as you are easily kited. It will be hard to get your damage off if this happens and you wont be tanky enough to get out.

Build order:

Damage:

Warrior 1412.png -> Cleaver 3071.png (Maybe youmuus 3142.png) -> Titanic 3748.png <-> Tank

Tank:

Tiamat 3077.png <-> Cinderhulk 1413.png -> Titanic 3748.png -> Cleaver 3071.png

Cinderhulk 1401.png <-> Tiamat 3077.png <-> Cleaver 3071.png <-> Titanic 3748.png

Matchup Back to Top

Most matchups are pretty even. I find that Rek'Sai is a good safe pick, noone hard counters her, but she also doesn't shine against any champion either. It's all on you to play to your advantages and strengths. Expose your opponents weakness and win the game :)

Playstyle Back to Top

Pressure and Efficiency.

Levels 1-5:

As Rek'Sai, you MUST pressure lanes early. This champion is next to useless in the lategame after the nerfs to her W(unburrow) knockup as well as ultimate rework, and the change that made her scale better with bonus AD.
If you are not able to put pressure out early and get your lanes ahead, or snowball yourself extremely hard you will not be able to win games.

Rek'Sai has the most unique and diverse ganking paths of any jungler for one reason. Her Tunnel (E). Because of this ability she can bridge walls and spaces other junglers cant, as well as doing this without mitigating her damage or CC during her gank. Other champions such as Jarvan can't clear walls without using there damaging and CC abilities, which results in less effective ganks. Because of this you can abuse Rek'Sais unique mobility to avoid wards and catch your enemies by surprise.

There are important walls you should know when ganking as Rek'Sai.

1) Blue Side:  Bottom side bush behind your opponents tower. This is the most effective and surprising way to gank bottom lane as Rek'Sai, you go around into their jungler, into the bush behind their bottom tower, and you tunnel over towards their tower. You may take one tower shot, but you will be in a position behind the enemy duo lane, which will guarantee you good results. On red side, you can use this bush to gank in the top lane.

2) Raptor camps. This works on both blue and redside. When you gank mid, simply go through their raptor camp so again you are behind them, cutting off their path to their own tower.

3) Baron and Dragon pit. You can use tunnels to go over both of these walls in order to avoid river wards and catch out lanes by surprise.

Gank whenever you can, make sure the lanes feel pressured. You don't even have to get kills on every gank, get summoner spells, chunk them out, anything. As long as your laners can play with more confidence and freedom then their laners, you're doing your job.

Jungle Pathing. Back to Top

Experience Quint Pathing:

1. Start Raptors -> Red buff -> Scuttle crab -> Gank. You will hit lvl 3 after these 3 camps if you have the XP quint, and will be able to surprise laners if you gank at this time, which should be around 2:30-2:45 minutes into the game and you will have a large lvl advantage over them.

2. Start small raptors (leave large one) -> Red buff -> Krugs -> Gank. I believe you will hit lvl 3 off of this clear as well, i prefer the full raptor clear rather than this one as this you leave some camps up. But both will get you lvl 3 quickly for an early gank.

Regular Starts:

1. Raptors <-> Red buff -> Wolves -> Gank <-> Blue buff.
2. Red buff -> Wolves -> Blue buff -> Gank.

Tunnels:

These are everything to Rek'Sai. Her identity, her biggest strength. The difference between a good Rek'Sai and a bad one is how they set up their tunnels. You want to set up your tunnels in your own jungle that will allow you to travel quickest and most efficiently through the jungle. You want to use it to pass over walls such as to Krugs, to Raptors, or over to buffs. These placements of tunnels will allow you to farm quicker, level up faster, and eventually be stronger so that you can duel or gank opponents. Another thing you can do is set up tunnels for future ganks, or gank setup. You can have them in mid lane into a side bush, or over Dragon/Baron pitt. These will allow you to seem like you are everywhere on the map, you will be putting out an immense amount of pressure if you can travel through these tunnels, farming, ganking, warding, whatever.

Counter Jungling Back to Top

How to Counter Jungle:

1) When/why do you do it?

    - When you have nothing to clear in your jungle, no lanes to gank, and you have nothing to buy. You counter jungle here to track the opposing jungler. This is an opportunity to venture into your opponents jungle in order to get vision, and knowledge of what camps the enemy jungler has done, as well as where they are on the map. An important thing to know when tracking the enemy jungler is counting CS. Whenever you see their jungler, you want to look at how many minions they have killed (early game). If you do this you will know what camps they have done, and what camps they have up. Krugs (10), Red, Blue, Wolves (3), Grump, Scuttle, Raptors (6). Now that you know what camps they have done, you can guess what path they are going to tank to further farm and gank. For example, if they have say 17CS you know they full cleared their red side jungle so they will be heading to their blue side jungle.

  - When you see the opposing jungler gank; If you are not in a position where you can counter gank, or gank another lane, head into their jungle IMMEDIATELY. Make sure you go to their opposing side, so if they gank top, you go to their bottom side jungle. You do this because those camps are more likely to be up, as well as its safer for you because the enemy jungler will not be able to contest those camps. On top of this, you deny them the experience and gold they would get if they had cleared the jungle themselves.

Tips/Tricks/Combos Back to Top

Tips/Tricks:

1. Instead of manually unburrowing reksaiw.png to knock up enemies, you can right click them (while burried) and it will unburrow Rek'Sai, getting the knockup. This is especially helpful when trying to interrupt enemies dashes, such as a Lee Sin 64.png connecting his Sonic Wave blindmonkqone.png, instead of trying to time it to negate the damage, you can right click on him and you will be guaranteed to knock him up before he gets to you.

2. Use your Tremor Sense to scope out unwarded areas. You can see if enemies are hiding in bushes, if you are invading you can see if they are doing a camp because you will see them moving, as well as objectives.

3. Preyseeker (buried Qreksaiq.png) reveals enemies/gives vision of them if you hit them with it, so its incredibly useful for checking unwarded areas, contesting objectives, as well as marking enemies for your ultimate reksairwrapper.png

4. BEWARE: If people have experience playing against Rek'Sai, they might stand still in open areas when you are tunneled! This may lead to a nasty surprise for you, so be wary that just because you can't sense them, doesn't always mean they are not there. Like in this clip from EU LCS: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aYcXjdL17nM

Combos:
-
Mechanically there is not a whole lot to this champion because she has only the one skill shot, most of her skills are based on decision making.

1.
Flash Unburrow. Staple combo on Rek'Sai, you flash onto an enemy and knock them up to gapclose and get the guaranteed knockup.

Thank You! Back to Top

Hello fellow summoners! I'm undeadmartyr, I reached Plat II last season, playing mostly Lee Sin 64.png and Rek'Sai 421.png in the jungle.

I haven't played much of the reworked Rek'Sai, but i plan on checking it out more and updating as I go along.

If you want more guides like this, you can check out my Gragas 79.png jungle guide (Be as Fed as You are Fat) or comment below requesting any champions you'd like to learn how to play! :)

This is my first guide, feel free to comment if you have any questions or suggestions! I'd love to know what you guys/girl think, and what could be improved on or changed.
