Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoner Spells

red_line.png

4.png Flash is the first Summoner Spell and I recommend always taking it when you're Renekton. This is because Flash is the best Summoner Spell around and works really well with Renektons Kit. For example, you can use your Flash with your Q and W to execute enemies. It is a really good and reliable Summoner Spell. It can be used offensively, defensively and is honestly, a really good Spell to take.

12.png Teleport is the second Summoner Spell that you should take Renekton. This Spell is really good because it can be used to get back to lane quicker and it can also be used to help your team. In the early game, you want to teleport back to lane after your first back. Then you should look for Teleport opportunities where you can help your team.

14.png Ignite is the other Summoner Spell that you can take on Renekton. In some matchups, you can easily snowball and beat the enemy. You can take Ignite in this situations and try to win even harder. However, Ignite is a very high-risk Summoner Spell and needs to be abused. Unlike Teleport, it does fall off late game and it will be less useful. You will also be missing out on global map pressure.

Runes

red_line.png

The Crocodile has a lot of freedom with what he takes as his main Rune tree. For 58.png Renekton, I recommend taking Domination as your main tree. This is because 58.png Renekton is an AD Fighter champion and can easily abuse all the Runes in this tree. The first Rune that I recommend taking is Electrocute.png?width=32 Electrocute. 58.png Renekton can get a lot of free damage on the enemies thanks to this Rune. For example, You can AA + renektoncleave.png Q + AA to get the electrical proc, another combo could be AA + renektonpreexecute.png W + AA. 58.png Renekton can reliably get the proc from Electrocute.png?width=32 Electrocute because he has no mana and short cooldowns. This makes Electrocute.png?width=32 Electrocute a very reliable Rune and it will help you snowball your lane. For the next Rune, I recommend taking Sudden%20Impact.png?width=32 Sudden Impact. Because 58.png Renekton has a Dash (thanks to his renektonsliceanddice.png E) you can gain extra lethality for a short period of time. This will make trading better and this will allow you to deal more damage to the enemies through these short trades. As the Crocodile is an AD Fighter and will be looking to win lane and kill the enemies as often as possible, the next Rune is favoured for him as it will give him extra damage and that bad boy is Eyeball%20Collection.png?width=32 Eyeball collection. This Rune is pretty reliable and can be abused with stacks, especially against champions that are not very strong such as 84.png Akali, 54.png Malphite or 245.png Ekko, however, this Rune could also be very risky if you cannot get kills. Alternatively, you could take Zombie%20Ward.png?width=32 Zombie ward which will allow you to be safer in lane through consistent vision. For the final Rune, I recommend taking Ravenous%20Hunter.png?width=32 Ravenous Hunter. 58.png Renekton has a lot of 7.png healing thanks to his Kit thanks to his renektonpassive.png Passive and renektoncleave.png Q. Taking Ravenous%20Hunter.png?width=32 Ravenous Hunter will give you even more 7.png healing when you go for trades. Alternatively, you could take Ingenious%20Hunter.png?width=32 Ingenious Hunter as it will give you cooldown on your active items. This can be good with some of your items if you decide to buy them, like 3143.png Randuin's Omen or 3748.png Titanic Hydra will both benefit from this Rune.

red_line.png

For the second Rune tree, I recommend that you take Precision. Triumph.png?width=32  Triumph is a very good Rune for Renekton and his play style. You can use this Rune to grant yourself some extra gold but also for the sustain it gives you. Once killing or receiving an assist, you can receive 12% of your health back. This will give you the sustain to continue in team fights or farming your lane. As a result of taking this Triumph.png?width=32 Triumph, you will be healthier for longer and by more of a threat to the enemy. For example, if you've killed an enemy solo, then you can continue to push for longer without risk of dying. 58.png Renekton's final Rune is Coup%20De%20Grace.png?width=32 Coup De Grace. This is a very good Rune as it allows you to deal extra damage to enemies when they are low, this will give you a higher kill potentual in lane.

Abilities

red_line.png

Renekton's Passive is Reign of Anger

58.png Renekton generates 5 fury each time he auto attacks anything that is a non-structure (such as minions, jungle camps, dragons and baron.) 58.png Renekton will lose 4 Fury per second after 12 seconds of not dealing or taking damage.

When 58.png Renekton is above 50 Fury, his next basic ability (Your renektoncleave.png Q, renektonpreexecute.png W or renektonsliceanddice.png E) will consume 50 Fury and enhance its effects.

renektonpassive.png REIGN OF ANGER PASSIVE: 58.png Renekton gains 50% more Fury whilst he is below 50% Maximum health.

ren1.png

red_line.png

Renekton's Q is Cull the Meek

58.png Renekton deals damage to all nearby enemies in a circle around him whilst 7.png healing himself for each unit hit.

renektonpassive.png REIGN OF ANGER PASSIVE: Renekton's Q deals 50% additional damage and triples the healing and its cap.

ren2.png

Tips and Tricks:

Your renektoncleave.png Q is very versatile. In exchanges and trades, you want to use this as your main source of damage and poke. The damage grants you increased Fury, so the more champions or enemies you hit, the more Fury you receive and 7.png healing you will receive. During the laning phase, you will often need to use your renektoncleave.png Q to 7.png heal yourself. To get the most Fury and the most effective amount of 7.png healing, try to use your renektoncleave.png Q on an enemy whilst they are inside a minion wave. Champions such as 54.png Malphite, 36.png Dr. Mundo, and 54.png Maokai are rather easy to get your 7.png healing from because they are melee. If you're against a ranged champion such as 133.png Quinn, doing this can be rather risky.

Like stated, your renektoncleave.png Q is very versatile. Whenever you use it, try to get the most out of it. It's an AOE ability that can grant you Fury and 7.png healing- remember that.

red_line.png

Renekton's W is Ruthless Predator

58.png Renektons's next basic attack within 7 seconds strikes twice dealing damage and stunning the target for a brief period of time. Hitting an enemy champion grants extra Fury, and the double attack applies on-hit effects such as 3748.png Titanic Proc.

renektonpassive.png REIGN OF ANGER PASSIVE: Instead of attacking twice, 58.png Renekton will attack 3 times dealing bonus damage and increasing the stun duration.

ren3.png

Tips and Tricks:

Your renektonpreexecute.png W is an auto attack reset which means that you want to auto attack the enemy before using it. In trades, you want to AA + renektonpreexecute.png W + AA .The renektonpreexecute.png W reset works on towers, however, does not stun them, instead, it is just a auto attack reset. In team fights, you want to try to CC anybody who is going to hit or go near your ADC. Alternatively, you can try to hit the enemy carries with it. It's all situational really, however, try to not waste your renektonpreexecute.png W. Enemy spell shields like 15.png Sivir's sivire.png E or 25.png Morgana's blackshield.png E will block the CC. Your renektonpreexecute.png W also works on 2055.png Control wards and 3340.png Vision wards.

As your renektonpreexecute.png W is an auto attack reset, it is very versatile and can be used to last hit minions if you have to play under tower. I would not recommend always using your renektonpreexecute.png W just to farm, but on the odd occasion- it's fine.

red_line.png

Renekton's E is Slice and Dice

First cast: 58.png Renekton dashes in a target direction dealing damage to enemies he passes through and generates Fury for each target hit. Hitting an enemy champion or minion will allow you to cast the second part of your renektonsliceanddice.png E within 4 seconds.

Second cast: 58.png Renekton dashes again to a target direction dealing damage to all enemies it passes through and generates Fury with each enemy hit.

renektonpassive.png REIGN OF ANGER PASSIVE: The second part of your renektonsliceanddice.png E will deal additional damage and reduce the enemies armor for 4 seconds.

ren4.png

Tips and Tricks:

I personally believe that you should play with quick-cast when playing 58.png Renekton. This is because it will allow you to perform your renektonsliceanddice.pngE + renektonsliceanddice.png E combo more quickly.

You can use your renektonsliceanddice.png E to get over certain small terrained walls such as the one at the back of the Dragon Pit. Your E will be the main way that you get in or out of team fights and trades. An example combo would be renektonsliceanddice.png E onto minions + renektonsliceanddice.png E to enemy + AA + renektonpreexecute.png W + renektoncleave.png Q.

red_line.png

Renekton's Ultimate is Dominus

58.png Renekton empowers himself for 15 seconds and gains bonus health increases his size and gains bonus range and Fury. For each half second he is empowered, he will deal AOE damage to all nearby enemies and generates 5 Fury per second.

ren5.png

Tips and Tricks:

You want to use your renektonreignofthetyrant.png Ultimate whenever you can, especially when you go for full trades. Your renektonreignofthetyrant.png Ultimate is very reliable and quiet good in certain situations. In some cases, you can use your renektonreignofthetyrant.png Ultimate to escape and save yourself, however, I prefer to use it when I go for trades, especially against melee champions. This is because you will deal insane amounts of damage through trades thanks to the AOE damage and your empowerment.

If you decide to dive an enemy champion, then you should always use your renektonreignofthetyrant.png Ultimate during your time under the tower, this is because it will give you added health, and more damage thanks to the AOE ticks around you.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

I like to take Doran's Blade every time unless I am against a ranged champion who can constantly poke me.
I only take Doran's Shield if I am against a ranged champion or an enemy with Poke. The passive will protect me.
I would never recommend getting Cull. It is a bad item and not efficent. You will lose all early game if you take this item.

Core Items

Your first major item is going to be Titanic Hydra. This item gives you pushing power, damage, sustain and defensive stats that will allow you to survive the game.
Your second item should be Boots. The only pair of boots I recommend getting are either Mercury Treads or Ninja Tabi. No others. Below I listed when you should take each.
I recommend taking The Black Cleaver as your third item. This item will give you sustain and will allow you to be more of a threat when team fighting and splitpushing
The fourth item I would pick up on Renekton is Sterak's Gage. This item will buff you in team fights and trades thanks to the shield from its passive.
Your fifth item should be Dead Mans Plate. I really like this item in general because it gives you a ton of health and armor and the passive is good.
For your final item, I would recommend getting Randuin's Omen. This item will make you incredibly tanky and will allow you to survive team fights.

Situational Items

If you are not against a heavy AD team, and instead need magic resist. These items are good on him and will provide him with a range of MR and other defensive stats.
If you're against a champion who is AP toplane, then I suggest getting an early Hexdrinker and then build Titanic Hydra (and switching out Stereks for Maw of Malmortius.)
Example Full Build. Beware, this item build is heavily in the defensive category and provides you with a lot of defensive stats but this is more orientated towards AD teams.

Item Description

red_line.png

58.png Renekton's shopping list is pretty simple and I usually buy the same items every game. However, there are some situations and matchups where things may change.

red_line.png

58.png Renekton's starting items are very good. I like to take 1055.png Doran's Blade if I am against an easy enemy champion or somebody who is melee. For example, if I am against 57.png Maokai or 114.png Fiora, I'll take 1055.png Doran's Blade. However, If I am against an AP champion like 50.png Swain or somebody who has range like 133.png Quinn then I'll take 1054.png Doran's Shield. This is because 1054.png D-Shield gives me lots of defensive stats that will allow me to survive the early laning phase. Your first item should be 3748.png Titanic Hydra. This item is very good and will give you a range of offensive abilities and damage. This item will also give you tanky stats that will buff you throughout the game and give you sustain and protection. Remember to use the items passive!

red_line.png

Your second item for 58.png Renekton should be 1001.png Boots. I recommend that you get either 3047.png Ninja Tabi or 3111.png Mercury Treads. I believe that there are no 58.png Crocodile 1001.png Boots on the Rift- I guess that's a good thing right? Anyway... You want to take 3047.png Ninja Tabi if you're against a heavy poke team or heavy AD/ Auto attack based team. In some games, I like to take 3047.png Ninja Tabi as my first item- for example, if I am against a champion who has range like 133.png Quinn. I'll take this item before I purchase my first. If I am against an AP heavy or CC heavy team I would get 3111.png Mercury Treads. For your third item, I recommend taking 3071.png The Black Cleaver. This item is very good on 58.png Renekton and gives you a bunch of stats that make you tankier and deal more damage to the enemies. Taking this item on the crocodile will allow you to sustain throughout team fights and be more of a threat to the enemy.  For your fourth item, I suggest taking 3053.png Sterek's Gage. This item is very good if you are going for constant trades. It will give you lots of health and damage thanks to the passive. Make sure to kill 15 minions for the item passive!

red_line.png

For your 5th item I like to get 3742.png Dead Mans Plate. This item is really good on58.png  Renekton as it gives him the defensive stats that he needs to get in and get out of team fights and trades. The item is strong because it grants him alot of armor and health- the passive is okay too. For your final item, I would recommend getting 3143.png  Randuin's Omen. This item, like 3742.png Dead Man's Plate, will give you armor and health that will protect you against enemy auto attacks and damage.

red_line.png

However, the build I've suggested focuses heavily on AD teams and realistically, you will probably need some magic ressit. For your final item, you could pick up a more defensive- magic resist item like a 3065.png Spirit Visage or 3156.png Maw. The best builds are the ones that you build yourself and I recommend trying out different items for different scenarios. Best of luck Summoner!

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

This is an easy matchup for Renekton because the enemy is a tank and is also melee. Try to deny the enemy and go for trades whenever you can. Make sure to abuse your early game and fight them for practically any CS that they are after. Try your best to snowball and win your lane. Beware, the enemy does have some CC which can make it harder for you, however, try your best to poke, deny and out trade the enemy.

If you fall behind because of a bad trade, try to sustain with your Q.

VS

Darius

Medium

This is a medium matchup because it is a skill matchup. Try to fight the enemy whenever you can, but only if it is safe to do so. I recommend that you research this matchup for yourself however here are some pointers. If he uses his Q, try to back get close to him and inside the inner circle of it. This will reduce the damage of his Q. Also, his E will block your dash, so try to dodge that. Beware of going for extended trades against Darius because of his passive.

VS

Kennen

Medium

Playing as Renekton versus a ranged champion such as this one is highly frustrating and I would not recommend picking Renekton into this matchup if you can help it. I would recommend starting Doran’s Shield and playing passively. You will need to play incredibly passive and purchase early defensive items such as Spirit Visage. However, make sure that the Kennen is building AP, if he isn't then build armor instead. You need to get Ninja Tabi as your first item before Titanic Hydra. You will also need to sacrifice CS for experience and over greed for farm.

This is a medium matchup because it is a skill matchup. Try to fight the enemy whenever you can, but only if it is safe to do so. I recommend that you research this matchup for yourself however here are some pointers. If he uses his Q then back off, Rumble will deal lots of damage thanks to his Q. Watch his over heat bar, if he gets near to overheating then you can go for trades. Dodge his E and keep going for trades, he is weak at 1v1.

Early Game Back to Top

Early Game

red_line.png

Your main job in the early game as 58.png Renekton is pretty simple. As 58.png Renekton is a very strong early lane dominant champion. You should abuse your champion and go for trades as often as possible. Thanks to your renektoncleave.png Q, you can receive lots of sustain thanks to the 7.png healing. You should go in for trades whenever possible and try to deny and harass the enemy. A very basic 58.png Renekton combo is renektonsliceanddice.png E through the minions to get close to your enemy, then hit them with an auto attack followed by your renektonpreexecute.png W. Your renektonpreexecute.png W is an auto attack reset and will allow you to deal extra damage, so it is important to attack first and then use your renektonpreexecute.png W for bonus damage. Finally, you want to use your renektoncleave.png Q and renektonsliceanddice.png E back. You have to be quiet fast during this process. Usually, you want to start trades with around 20~ Fury at minimum to get the empowered renektoncleave.png Q.

If you're against a ranged champion then you should start 1054.png Doran's Shield and not 1055.png Doran's Blade. 1054.png Doran's Shield will give you lots of sustain and protect you against the ranged auto attacks. Champions like 17.png Teemo, 133.png Quinn and 50.png Swain are very frustrating to play against thanks to their sustain and poke. Ideally, you will not be playing 58.png Renekton into a ranged champion as you will be missing out on a lot of the things that make you strong early.

red_line.png

Mid Game Back to Top

Mid Game

red_line.png

The Mid game is still quiet strong for 58.png Renekton. In the Mid game, you want to be focusing on farming and pushing towers and going for trades whenever you can. It is quite like the Early game really, however you should try to be as much of a nuisance for the enemy as you can. Make sure to keep pushing towers and going for trades when it is safe too. As 58.png Renekton you can either decide to keep splitpushing or instead group and help your team. I like to do both, push the wave and then go and group. If you have 12.png Teleport up then you can keep splitpushing but make sure to keep an eye on the mini map and check for warding opportunities and for approaching enemies.

58.png Renekton is a very strong champion and can 1v1 most enemies. When going for any trades always watch the minimap and make sure it is safe to do so. In most cases, you should be able to 1v1 anybody who tries to counter your push.

Late Game Back to Top

Late Game

red_line.png

While the Late game isn't incredibly strong for 58.png Renekton, he still can be useful. By this time of the game, you want to group with your team and go for picks. You have two major options in team fights. You can either go for the enemy carries such as the enemy 222.png ADC or 142.png Mid or you can go and be a peeling machine and peel for your carries and focus whoever is on your ADC. If you decide to go for the enemy carries, make sure to back off if they are getting too far away from you. 58.png Renekton is melee and struggles against ranged champions who can kite him. Do not go deep- if your team cannot follow up, then fall back and focus the enemy on your 222.png ADC.

You should try to use your combo and your renektonpreexecute.png W specifically on the enemy frontline or the enemy carry. You should also use your renektonreignofthetyrant.png Ultimate when the fight is underway rather than at the beginning as it may be wasted.

Tips and Tricks Back to Top

Tips and Tricks

red_line.png

  1. If you're against a tank champion who is melee such as 98.png Shen, 54.png Malphite or 57.png Maokai. You need to abuse your early game damage and go for trades as often as possible.
  2. If you're playing against a champion who is ranged, such as 133.png Quinn or 17.png Teemo then you need to start 1054.png Doran's Shield. Ideally, you will not pick 58.png Renekton into a ranged champion, but if you do- start 1054.png Doran's Shield. This item will give you defensive stats to allow you to survive the early laning phase.
  3. If you are forced to play under the tower, you can use your renektonpreexecute.png W to last hit some minions if you cannot get them in time. Your renektonpreexecute.png W is an auto attack reset.
  4. If you are running low on health, try to use your empowered renektoncleave.png Q onto as many minions and champions as possible. This will give you sustain and a good proportion of 7.png healing.
  5. You want to use your main empowered ability, as soon as you get 50 Fury. I recommend using your renektoncleave.png Q most of the time as it gives you a ton of 7.png healing. However, you should take the one you need. I do not recommend using your empowered renektonpreexecute.png W or renektonsliceanddice.png E on minions as it's a waste.

Renekton Combos Back to Top

Renekton Combos

red_line.png

Renekton has a ton of different combos that you can use. I will try to do my best to show you what you can do and how/ when you should be doing it. Renekton is a very good champion because you do not have to rely upon mana before going into any of these trades. However, Fury should be looked at before going in for full trades.

red_line.png

Early level combos:

E + E + Q + AA + W  : Basic combo. First you renektonsliceanddice.png E through the minions, then renektonsliceanddice.png E onto the enemy and hit them with your renektoncleave.png Q followed by an Auto attack and finally you renektonpreexecute.png W them.

E + E + AA + W + Q : Basic laning phase combo. First, you renektonsliceanddice.png E through the minions and then renektonsliceanddice.png E again onto the enemy champion. Follow that up with an auto attack, your renektonpreexecute.png W and then renektoncleave.png Q the enemy.

E + AA + W + E + Q : Final basic example combo. Like the others, you want to renektonsliceanddice.png E onto the enemy and then auto the enemy, follow up straight away with your renektonpreexecute.png W and renektonsliceanddice.png E the enemy again. Finally hit the enemy with your renektoncleave.png Q.

red_line.png

Team fight and trading:

E + R + E + AA + W + Q : First you want to renektonsliceanddice.png E onto the enemy minions, and then pop your renektonreignofthetyrant.png ultimate. After you've become empowered, you want to renektonsliceanddice.png E again onto the enemy. Then you want to use your basic attack and follow it up with your renektonpreexecute.png W and your renektoncleave.png Q.

E + R + E + Q + AA + W : First you want to renektonsliceanddice.png E onto the enemy minions, and then pop your renektonreignofthetyrant.png ultimate. After you've become empowered, you want to use your renektoncleave.png Q followed by an auto attack as well as using your renektonpreexecute.png W. Then you want to keep attacking the enemy with your basic attacks.

E + E + R + AA + W + Q : First you want to renektonsliceanddice.png E onto the enemy minions and then renektonsliceanddice.png E again onto the enemy or enemy minions. Follow that up by popping your renektonreignofthetyrant.png Ultimate and auto attacking the enemy. You then want to stun the enemy with your renektonpreexecute.png W and use your renektoncleave.png Q to finish them off. This example is when you're far away from the enemy and not close at all to them.

These are only a few combo's that I've listed. In fact, there is a ton of different combos you can use on Renekton. You should also use your 3077.png Tiamat active when going for trades.

red_line.png

What Fury should you start Fights On?

The facts about Fury:

You gain Fury by using your abilities and by auto attacking enemy minions, champions and Jungle camps.

  • Your renektoncleave.png Q : Cull the Meek
  • He gets 2.5 Fury for each non-champion hit (minions) and gets 10 Fury if he hits an enemy champion with his renektoncleave.png Q.
  • Your renektonpreexecute.png W : Ruthless Predator
  • Hitting a champion with your renektonpreexecute.png W will grant you 10 base Fury + 10 bonus Fury. Hitting a minion will grant you 10 Fury.
  • Your renektonsliceanddice.png E : Slice and Dice
  • Using your renektonsliceanddice.png E on a non-champion will grant 15 Fury and 10 Fury for each champion he hits.
  • Your Auto Attacks:
  • Will grant 5 Fury per auto attack.

red_line.png

Using your abilities is important, especially in trades. In most situations, I use my renektoncleave.png Q when I am above 50 Fury. This is because it will give me extra damage and healing. I like to use this ability the most as it is a "get out of jail free card" when Trades go wrong. Alternatively, you could use your renektonpreexecute.png W to get an extra auto attack out of it.

In general, you want to use your main Passive ability (your renektoncleave.png Q) when you are just over 50.

How to Lane Versus Ranged Champions Back to Top

How to lane Melee vs Ranged

red_line.png

In League of Legends, there are a plethora of champions with different shapes, sizes and abilities. Many champions are melee and are recognizable by their point blank basic attacks. If you’ve ever played a game of League and if you’re reading this, you would know how unfortunate and painful it is to play as a melee champion against a ranged one.

Many players seem to give up the laning phase when they see that they’re against a ranged champion. Fear not! We will discuss some things you can do in these matchups to help improve your laning experience. Using the information presented will allow you to be more active in lane rather than giving it over to the enemy.

Starting Items

If you are a champion that doesn’t have the best early game, then I recommend starting with Doran’s Shield. This item is good as it gives you some early defensive stats that will benefit you in the early levels and help you sustain. Realistically, you will be unable to always trade exclusively against ranged champions. Taking early defensive stats will allow you to survive for longer during the early stages of the game.

image1510910303.png
Dorans Shield is a great starting item.

The item itself gives 80 health and flat health regeneration every 5 seconds. This is good because it will heal you back quicker when you are attacked. It will also restore health when taking damage from enemies. I do not recommend taking harass for free, but in some situations you will have to take damage to farm. This is overall a really good item to start with because it will allow you to survive in lane for longer against the enemy's harassment.

Level 1/2

In Melee versus Ranged matchups, the lane is quickly dictated by who hits level 2 first. In the all matchups, you will want to hit level 2 first but especially in melee versus ranged. If you do not get the level 2 first, then you will be denied minions and farm. While you may not be able to do anything against Ranged champions early, it is important to hit the level 2 to stay up in CS. Being an equal level will prevent the enemy going for extremely trades in the early levels. This will also prevent you from being poked out and losing minions and the experience. Farming is something you need to do and you must make sure to keep the wave in a reasonable position so you can farm easier.

Trading

Going for early trades against champions with ranged can be one way of swinging the lane into your advantage. If you can get the level 2 advantage, then you can go for a trade if the enemy is still level 1.

You can try to fight them if you have ranged abilities such as Akali Q, Zed Q and Talon W. However, this is very situational and depends on the champion you’re playing and who you’re against. It is recommended to look up your champion's power spikes. Most Assassins have the opportunity for an early level trade such as Zed’s W+Q combo. Champions who deal damage will benefit more from these early level trades compared to tanks.

Ability Farming

Most champions in League of Legends have at least 1 damaging ability. Some of them cost mana, some cost health and others cost energy. If you're in a matchup where you are being heavily denied CS from a champion with range, then I recommend trying to farm with your abilities.

If your ability doesn't cost any mana, then it is possible that you can farm with that ability. Dr. Mundo, The Madman of Zaun, has his Q ability that doesn't cost any mana but instead health. This ability will refund the cost if you kill the enemy hit. This can be a good way of farming because you are able to regenerate and get the cost back immediately or over time.

There are some other champions that can benefit from using their abilities to farm with such as Zed. While this sounds good on paper, it is highly situational. You should not, and I do not recommend using your abilities to only farm with. You need to poke and last hit. If you are only farming with your abilities, then you lose all your poke potential. You should not use your abilities to farm if they have high mana costs.

image1510910750.jpg

Sacrifice CS for Experience

Getting farm is incredibly important. In lanes where you will be poked when going to take farm, it is best to sacrifice some of them for the experience. While you do need gold and minions to buy items, experience and staying alive is more important. You need to stay up in CS and levels to still be hazardous to the enemy. While high elo players suggest getting a high amount of CS at 10 minutes, in lanes like this you will have to take what you can get. I recommend always trying to get Cannon minions, but be prepared to sacrifice some. Is that minion gold worth the amount of harassment from the enemy? Keep that in mind when farming.

Itemization

Depending on your champion, you may need to pick up more defensive items early. If you’re a tank and playing against someone with range such as a Kayle or Swain. I recommend buying early armor or magic resist before getting your first core item.

image1510911314.png

In Season 7, Bramble Vest was introduced and it is an amazing item. It’s a mini Thornmail with the same “Thorns” passive. It will deal damage back to enemies when you’re being attacked from basic attacks. This is good as it will allow you to deal damage to them when they attack you. At 1000 gold, the item grants 35 armor which will also help you when trading and farming.

There are many other defensive items out there. Some may be more viable then others and you should build what you need right now to survive the laning phase. Ninja Tabi is another good example of an early defensive item. However, you should only get this item if you will directly benefit from it.

Minion Wave

In every laning phase, you should play around with minion waves to get the most out of your lane. This depends on your champion, but you should try to have it in a more defensive position outside of your tower. You do not want to push the wave because the enemy will easily freeze the wave in a position much further up in the lane and deny you CS. This is something you do not want to happen. When backing or roaming, push the wave as far as you can so they cannot take your tower. Minions will act on instinct and if you’re being attacked by autos from the enemy champion, they will switch targets. This means the wave may mess up - keep that in mind when playing around with minions.

Roaming

If you’ve messed up the minion wave and are being heavily denied, then you should roam. If you are a champion with any potential CC, then you can look to roam and rotate with or without your jungler. Before roaming, make sure that it will be worth it. Push the wave so the enemy cannot take your tower. Look for potential opening in the game where you can gank your middle or bot. Wait for the enemy to use a core ability before going ham.

You must remember that you will be in a disadvantaged position at the start of the game. It is important to farm up and play safe especially early. You should try to position the wave in a favourable position to sustain a high level of creeps while also staying healthy and not being poked easily by enemies. It is better to stay a few CS behind early rather than having to back because you took too much aggro. Practise makes perfect when playing melee versus ranged. Every lane is different so keep an eye on what you can do to have the best possible outcome to this laning phase. In many cases, experience matters as League of Legends is a very, very situational game.
