Summoner Spells Back to Top

The using of the summoner spell is a question of self-preference. I am just telling you here what are the pros of both decisions.

You normally use flash in 95% of situations. You can use it as:
-gapcloser to hit your spells
-escape, after you killed one of the enemies
-gapcloser into a bush (to jump out of it afterwards)
-gapcloser to hit your ferocity bola if you are a SkillShotKing like me ^_^

In the way i play Rengar i mostly can´t manage to play without flash.

In case you are forced to play Tank-Rengar, you can think about using ghost instead of flash.
Ghost gives you the ability to chase down targets when your R is activated or also when u jumped onto your target and you don´t have enough damage (cause of Tank-Stuff) to kill it immediately.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

The combination of runes and masteries is crucial!!

I am playing a pretty standard mastery site with my self-preferenced rune page and for me it´s working out pretty well. It just needs some games to know what´s the best combination for yourself.

I skip the whole ferocity tree cause i like the sustain, cdr on summoners extra ms and resistances of resolve even more (Utility/Tankiness > Dmg) for me in this case.

In the cunning tree is nothing special i guess. Savagery and Runic Affinity for more jungle-utility, Merciless to execute low hp targets, Greenfathers-Precision-Thunderlords to get some more dmg and burst down.

Stormraiders vs. Thunderlords
There is the way to go for stormraiders instead of thunderlords. Stormraiders gives you some extra MS when you deal 30% of enemies hp inner 2.5 sec. For me stormraiders is really fun to play but i prefer thunderlords for myself. Stormraiders gives you the ability to correct or change your positioning really fast when it procs. Thunderlord instead gives you bonus magic dmg when you hit the target with a combination of 3 aa or spells (what is no problem with Rengar). I personally recommend you stormraiders just in higher elos or if you feel really confident using it.

Vs. Tanky Teams (2+) Tanks/Offtanks

There is the opportunity to use Fervor of Battle. I have made some good experiences using it vs enemies with a large amount of hp/armor/(mr). When you mastered Rengar a bit and got some games with him you can give this way of masterie setting a try, otherwise i would recommend you the classic thunderlord page.

The skillorder in the Jungle is pretty simple:

You skill R>Q>E>W for more dmg output (my way) or R>Q>W>E for some more sustain and healing.

rengarpassive.png - Unseen Predator (Passive): Rengar can jump out of bushes to targets which are inner the shown circle. Pretty easy to understand but offers a big uotplay potential. Also Rengar´s spells build up ferocity (shown under hp bar) when the bar is full you can use one of his spells in their empowered form (using empowered spell gives you MS). You lose the ferocity when you leave combat. Tip: You can stack up ferocity at wards or the scuttle when a fight is near but care you lose it very fast. The bonetooth Necklace is the last part of Rengar´s passive: it shows you the portraits of all enemies over your spellbar. For each enemy you killed you gain bonus AD. Tip: Try to kill (you also get the stack when you attacked the target 1.5 sec before it dies) all of the enemies once to get the full bonus.

rengarq.png - Savagery (Q-Spell): That´s Rengar´s bread and butter spell, it has a pretty low cd so you should use it whenever it´s up. Try to hit all monsters in a camp with both instances of your Q for the fastest clear and dont miss the stronger aa after you used your Q. The empowered Q deals a lot of dmg so you mostly use this empowered spell when your ferocitybar is full.

rengarw.png - Battle Roar (W-Spell): This spell gives you the sustain you need in the jungle, it allows you to heal some of the damage you recently took. Tip: Don´t use it instantly when you attack a camp, let it be the last spell of your spellrotation. The empowered form of this spell you use to break CC like stuns or slows when you gank or fight. You can also heal a big amount of hp when you just got some burst dmg in your face. Just use it in the Jungle when you would die to the camp or if you want to heal up a bit otherwise always use Q - gives you a faster clear.

rengare.png - Bola Strike (E-Spell): Rengar´s bola is the easiest spell to explain. You just use it to deal dmg in the Jungle or to slow enemies when ganking. The empowered bola stuns the enemy for some time, this helps you to make catches of slippy champs (if you hit the bola :p). Tip: You can throw the bola mid-air that means you cast it while you are leaping to a target to get instant two fero stacks and you slow the target immediately.

rengarr.png - Thrill of the Hunt (R-Spell): Rengar went after two seconds of delay in a camouflage mode and gains MS. When the ultimate is activated you can see enemies in a large radius around you, with this tool you can spot targets or also fear them off when you want to take a turret or other objective (Tip: When enemies see the sign over their head they mostly fall back because they get scared of you). Rengar´s R-Spell allows you to pick out one of the enemies especially squishy splitpushers or carries are mostly easy victims when your R is up. (Tip: When you jump on the marked target you get a guaranteed crit, so choose wisely which enemy you attack)

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

pretty standard start. Talisman gives you a lot of hp back esp. at the chickens. You normally don´t need the three pots at the start.

Core Items

Preference or Blue: slippy enemies > slow them Red: strong enemy Jungler > smite him Green: strong counter Jungler or team needs vision > ward the map (Jungle Entrance)
Tabis > heavy ad, aa based Mercury > heavy ap, slows-stuns-... Ionian > if u not cap cdr
Hexdrinker: first item if they have 2+ AP´s Ghostblade: squishies 2+ Tiamat: need more clear or OS in early Deaths D: when no hexdr. needed Mortal R: armor stackers or a lot of healing BC: enemies are tanky and dont have so much ap
4th item is usually a Tank-Item. DMP vs. general ad´s RO vs. aa based ad´s SV vs. a lot of ap / hexdr. isn´t enough GA Rush when you are fed after the early

Situational Items

After Jgl-Item, Boots, Hexdr. or started DD, Tank-Item. Now you can decide between more Dmg or Tankyness
Dmg: IE: OS squishy RH: Clear, Sustain, OS DB: Lethalirty Abuser TH: AA-reset of doom EoN: Veil, Lethality
Tanky: SG: Heavy Burst SC: armor stack* BV: mr stack + veil* LotS: mr stack + shield* TM: full ad and you full tank*/// *not approved by me but try it out if you want
Crit Rengar is fun when fed but be sure to win/carry when you start with this.

Rengar´s item variety includes good as all ad and tank items because there are so much ways to play him.

For me it´s very important to reach to 40% cdr on him, that´s why i have 10% already in runes. Jungle-Item 10%. Maw of Malmortius + Death´s Dance (Ghostblade) or Black Cleaver = 20%. I just try every game to cap cdr or at least have 30% because it makes Rengar just so much stronger.

With my Itembuild you have pretty much dmg in early with the Jungle-Item and started Maw,  DD, GB or BC.
But you are never that squishy that it would be easy to counterjungle you or that you get easily oneshoted by everybody. Ninja Tabi´s or Mercury´s Treads give you a good amount of resistance for the really early game.

When i am really fed after i finished first 3 Items i decide if it´s worth to go for FULL DAMAGE or still buy Tank Stuff.

Don´t be scared to try new Itemcombinations on Rengar! You should just be sure how strong are you atm and how strong is your enemy AP/AD damage and if it´s worth to go FULL DAMAGE when they have 3 Tanks and a Midlaner with Zhonya`s.

Jungle Route / Tips Back to Top

I prefer the start where my botlane is, because of the stronger leash. All routes from Blue Side.

When i start red: Red > Chickens > Wolves > Blue > Scuttle/Gank/Invade/Gromp.

When i start blue: Blue > Wolves > Chickens > Red > Golems/Gank/Invade/Gromp/Back

My decision depends on how much hp i got left (also pots, smite cd), how the lanes look (easy targets or all pushing maybe countergank)

Tip: If you have no ferocity stacks atm and you want to do a camp always jump from a bush onto the monsters, it grants you one additional ferocity to do your rotation cleaner. (Greenfather´s gets proced too)

Tip: If your Route ends at your Toplane and it´s pushing try to sneak into the 3 bushes on the lane. You can easily leap on the enemy when they trade and take First Blood for your Team. Or you let your Laner push and wait to countergank the enemy Jungler.

In general it´s important to farm pretty much with Rengar (it´s pretty easy too). If you are not ahead you are not able to oneshot people later or threat enemy Carries. So never stop farming also if you don´t get Kills early you can still be a Beast when you get your Items before the others.

Early/Mid/Late Game Back to Top

Early Game:

It´s all about getting Items together and pick up enemies overextending. The amount of Farm and Kills you can take in early are deciding how much Impact you have in the Mid game. So think sometimes twice before you do risky plays or take dangerous routes. When you hit 6 try to perma gank or invade and keep your R on cd.

Mid Game:
You got your first 2-4 Items. Now it´s all about catching people going solo and trying to make plays. When you destroy in the beginning of the Mid game the rest of the game will just get better for you normally. Also if Rengar´s scaling stops somewhen is he still able to oneshot targets in the late Mid game or chase them down after getting close with R.

End Game:
Try to threat their carries if you do still enough dmg as Bruiser or when you builded FULL DAMAGE. With your E-Spell you can easily catch people running away from you or your Team.

We learn: When the early is well played Rengar can be a Beast in Mid and also even in the Late game. If you were unlucky in early or you just sucked (you can´t suck with this guide!) just try to keep the farm up and maybe get a early GA.

Author´s Note / About me Back to Top

Yo Rengar-Enthusiasts,

My name is Marco (LIQ JuñgleKek), i am living in Germany and i am playing Rengar since  Season 4 and since Season 5 i am playing him in Ranked.

In this Time i did 450+ Ranked games with Rengar with a overall winrate of approx. 60-70%. I collected since the mastery System is there 510+ k Points with Rengar. Over all this time playing my favourite Kitty i collected some Knowledge i wanna share with other people, like You.

Since Rengar is my Main Champion i climbed from Gold I or II to atm Diamond 4 (60 lp) and i think that´s not the end of my climb.

There is no other Champion for me bringing so many fun into that Game like Rengar! I hope my Guide helped you to improve your Rengar Skills or makes you wanna try him out.

Sry if my english is sometimes not on point i did my best. (not a native speaker :s)
