Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png 12.png--> Most common summoner spells for Ryze mid.

4.png 1.png--> Cleanse is good against champions or team compositions with heavy crowd control.

4.png 14.png--> Ignite isn't as common, but the kill pressure it offers can help you snowball early on.

4.png 6.png--> Ghost is good if you need to kite out enemy champions.

4.png 3.png--> Exhaust is good vs assassins such as Zed.

New Runes Back to Top

231.png
For our Primary tree for Ryze mid, we run Sorcery, taking Phase%20Rush.png?width=32 (Phase Rush) to help us move-around and position in fights, we take Manaflow%20Band.png?width=32 (Manaflow band) to help us with our mana sustain during lane, and helps scale up our damage since our damage scales off of our bonus mana. We take Celerity.png?width=32 (Celerity) for the little bit of extra movement speed and adaptive damage, and then we take Scorch.png?width=32 (Scorch) to help with our poke in lane. For our Secondary, we take Inspiration, and we go Magical%20Footwear.png?width=32 (Magical Footwear) for the free boots at 10 minutes, which saves us a bit of gold since we do not have to purchase boots, and then we take Minion%20Dematerializer.png?width=32 (Minion Dematerializer) to help us secure CS and aid our wave management.

179.png
PRIMARY: Sorcery

Phase%20Rush.png?width=32--> Phase rush helps us move-around and position in team-fights. It also adds a good amount of slow resistance so we can continue to move around quicker than normal if we are slowed.

Manaflow%20Band.png?width=32-->Manaflow band helps increase our mana pool and helps up our damage output since Ryze's damage scales off of his bonus mana.

Celerity.png?width=32--> Celerity adds even more movement speed to our setup, and it adds a little bit of extra damage as well.

Scorch.png?width=32--> Scorch helps us to poke and trade in lane. However, you can also run Gathering%20Storm.png?width=32 (Gathering Storm) if you're looking to scale.

179.png
SECONDARY: Inspiration

Magical%20Footwear.png?width=32--> Magical footwear gives us free boots at 10 minutes. This allows to save the gold we'd normally spend on boots, and then spend it on something else, such as more damage.

Minion%20Dematerializer.png?width=32--> Minion Dematerializer helps us CS in lane, and it can beneficial for wave management as well. Our early wave-clear isn't great, so this helps with that until we can get some damage to better push and clear the waves.

179.png
Summoner%20Specialist.png?width=32--> Unsealed spellbook is also pretty good on Ryze. It allows us to swap summoners around, so could run, say, ignite for kill pressure in lane, and then swap to TP to either TP back to lane or to TP to another lane.

For Ryze mid, we max our ryzee.png (E) first, followed by ryzeqwrapper.png (Q), and then ryzew.png (W). We level u ryzer.png (R) at levels 6,11, and 16. Our ryzee.png (E) sets up our ryzeqwrapper.png(Q) and ryzew.png(W), and gives them improved stats when used in combination with our ryzee.png (E). Our ryzeqwrapper.png (Q) is our poke and damage tool, and our ryzew.png (W) is our CC. Our ryzer.png (R) is good for escaping and engaging fights, as well as roaming to side-lanes early on.

ryzepassive.png

PASSIVE: Arcane Mastery

Inmate: Ryze's spells deal extra damage based on his Bonus Mana, and he gains a percentage increase to his maximum Mana based on his Ability Power.

Ryze1.png

Ryze's passive is the basis for how we itemize. We want to build a lot of mana items, as for they increase our damage output. Ryze's passive is why items like 3027.png (Rod of Ages) and 3003.png(Archangel's staff) is good on him.
179.png
ryzeqwrapper.png

Q-Ability: Overload

Passive: Rune Prison and Spell Flux reset Overload's cool-down and charge a Rune for 4 seconds, up to 2 Runes.

Active: Unleash a runic blast, dealing 60/85/110/135/160/185 (+45% Ability Power) (+0) magic damage to the first enemy struck. Any active Runes are discharged. If 2 Runes are discharged, they Overload, shielding Ryze from 0 (+60% Ability Power) (+0) damage and increasing his Movement Speed by 25/28/31/34/37/40% for 2 seconds.

Ryze2.png

Ryze's ryzeqwrapper.png (Q) is important to understand when trading and combo'ing. Weaving ryzeqwrapper.png (Q) with our other abilities ryzew.png (W) and ryzee.png (E) is essential if we want to find success when playing Ryze. An example combo might be: ryzeqwrapper.png->ryzee.png->ryzeqwrapper.png->ryzew.png->ryzeqwrapper.png->ryzee.png->ryzeqwrapper.png. Understanding the rune charging mechanic is important if you want to do well with Ryze.

179.png

ryzew.png

W-Ability: Rune Prison

Ryze traps a target enemy unit in a cage of runes, damaging them and preventing them from moving.

Instantly root an enemy for 0.75 second and deal 80/100/120/140/160 (+60% Ability Power) (+0) magic damage.

Ryze3.png

Ryze's ryzew.png (W) is his CC. Using our ryzee.png (E) then ryzew.png (W) gives us an empowered root, and that gives a lot of time to kite or position so we can output damage efficiently. Although we max this ability last, it's utility is hugely important to our team-fighting and kiting ability.

179.png

ryzee.png

E-Ability: Spell Flux

Ryze releases an orb of pure magical power that damages an enemy and debuffs them. Ryze's spells have additional effects against the debuffed enemy.

Apply Flux to an enemy, dealing 70/90/110/130/150 (+30% Ability Power) (+0) magic damage.

Spells consume Flux for bonus effects:

Overload: Deals 40/50/60/70/80% more damage and spreads to nearby enemies with Flux.

Rune Prison: Root duration is increased to 2 seconds.

Spell Flux: Spreads Spell Flux to nearby enemies, dealing 50% damage.Spells that kill enemies affected by Flux spread Spell Flux to nearby enemies.

Ryze4.png

Ryze's ryzee.png (E) is where a lot of our damage is located. The bonus's we gain from using spell flux into another ability are critical to use preforming well in a fight. ryzee.png->ryzew.png combo on one of their carries in a late game fight could be game turning, due to the fact the empowered root would hold them in place for 2 seconds (assuming they have no tenacity.)

179.png

ryzer.png

R-Ability

Realm Warp

Ryze creates a portal to a nearby location. After a few seconds, allies standing near the portal are teleported to the target location.

Ryze opens a portal to a location up to 1750/3000 range away. After 2 seconds, all allies near the portal are teleported to that location. If Ryze becomes unable to cast or move, Realm Warp is cancelled.

Ryze5.png

Ryze's ryzer.png (R) is our roaming tool early on, and a possible engage or escape tool later on in the game. Using Realm Warp to roam bot post level-6 could swing the game in your favor if you're able to get the roam off successfully. However, you can no longer Stopwatch/Zhonya's ult, which kinda sucks given how useful and clutch that interaction used to be.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    Standard start for Ryze mid.
    Refillable potion over 3 pots.

Core Items

    Standard Ryze build.
Against a team with a lot of AD.
Against a team with a lot of AP damage threats.

Situational Items

Not bad against champions like Zed.
Not a bad option depending on the game. Item was nerfed a couple of patches ago though, so it's not as good as it was prior.
Not bad if we're snowballing really hard.
Not a bad option some games, more so against compositions with a lot of healing and sustain.
Sorc shoes aren't a bad purchase here and there, the extra pen is nice in some instances.
231.png
1027.png--> The mana we gain from this helps increase our damage slightly, and helps keep our mana pool up in lane for trading and farming.

2033.png--> Corrupting potion isn't a bad buy into lanes where we need the extra sustain.

1082.png--> Dark seal is a higher risk buy, but it's great if we start snowballing and then eventually upgrade it into a 3041.png (mejai's.) The extra mana and extra potion duration is super helpful for lane.

1056.png--> Doran's ring isn't a bad buy either. The health is a big reason we buy this. The extra AP, extra damage to minions, and mana regen  all help us in lane.

3158.png--> Ionian boots are good for the cool-down reduction it offers on abilites and summoner spells. It helps us get our combo out quicker, and the movement speed helps us roam and position in a team-fight.

3047.png--> Ninja tabi is good against AD comps and AD threats. Reducing basic attack damage by 10% and giving us 20 armor is really good at handling and dueling AD champions.

3111.png--> Merc treads are great against CC and magic damage. The tenacity helps prevent you from getting locked down, and the magic resist is good against AP threats.

3027.png--> Rod of Ages gives us health and mana. This is a perfect fit item for Ryze, and the scaling with the mana passive increases our damage output.

3040.png--> Seraph's embrace is great since it builds out of 3070.png (tear) which is the first item we rush on mid-lane Ryze. The mana stats and the active shield are super helpful in team-fights.

3089.png--> Deathcap is a good item since it increases our damage output. Lots of ability power which scales with our passive, ryzepassive.png (Arcane Mastery.)

3135.png--> Extra magic penetration is good at killing their front-line. It also gives us a bit of Ability Power.

3151.png--> Liandry's torment gives us health and AP, and helps us cut through tanky frontliners with some burn damage.

3102.png--> Ability power, magic resist, and cool-down reduction are all good stats for Ryze. Plus, the passive spell-shield is super good against other AP threats, and can offer outplay potential.

3907.png--> Spellbinder isn't a bad buy in some circumstances. The extra AP and movement speed are very helpful stats, more so in a team-fights.

3110.png--> Frozen heart gives us a lot of mana, CDR, and armor. All of these stats are good, more so against AD champions. Plus, the Frozen heart passive has an attack speed slow aura, which is good for dealing with those auto-attack based AD champions.

Playing as Ryze Back to Top

231.png
Early game: Our goal early on is to farm until we can get 3070.png, and then back and buy it. After that, we want to continue to farm up and scale. We also need to be proactive on the map via roaming and using our ryzer.png to make plays happen. Ryze isn't the best champion early, so we need time and items to ramp up and become powerful. Playing safe and passive early and only going for smart plays is ideal.

Mid game: Mid game we want to be active and going for plays with our team. We've most likely already completed a few items, so we should be pretty strong at this point. We can also go into a side-lane and split-push if we like, assuming we have 12.png. Continuing to farm is good, and making good plays in combination with your team is the way to go.

Late game: Late game Ryze is a monster. He does a lot of damage in a very short amount of time. We need to utilize our damage and position correctly in team-fights so we can get the most DPS out. Positioning is the big thing here; we need to be in a spot to punish the enemy team and or enemy carries if they walk too far forward or make a misstep. If we want to split-push, having 12.png available will be very helpful, since we can TP into the fight if our team engages or gets engaged on.

About me Back to Top

231.png
I began playing league around the start of season 4 and picked up Yasuo around March of that year, and have remained a dedicated main since then (My favorite skin is High-noon, and I like all of the chroma's). After a few months of dedicated playing, my main account hit platinum 2 in season 5 and my smurf had reached diamond. Following that, in season 6 I was able to cruise into Diamond smoothly on my main account and currently in season 7 (as you probably saw by my lolking link). I ended season 7 in Diamond 5 sadly because I didn't have a lot of time to grind out games, and because I was simply not good enough to climb to where I wanted to be. I did however peak Diamond 3, 100 LP (D2 promos), so while I'm not yet where I want to be, I know I can do it in the future.
