Summoner Spells Back to Top

I'll update the items for Pre-Season after a bit of playtesting. Most everything remains the same tho.

This guide is for both Jungle and Top Sejuani.

In each section Jungle is listed first followed by Top.

Feel free to ask any and all questions that you have throughout reading the guide in the comments.

Jungle

                                                                   6570de98952de814ef18803ceb400906.png
11.png - For jungle you are obviously going to run smite to help your clear and secure objectives.
4.png - You are going to want to run flash to allow yourself to get into positions where you can more easily do your job of peeling or catching the enemy team.

Top

12.png - Teleport is crucial for Sejuani top as you are likely to be forced out through poke. Teleport also has the advantage of being very good for cross map plays. Teleport ganking bot lane is very strong once you hit level 6 as you can land a very easy 2 man stun when you get there.
4.png - You are going to want to run flash to allow yourself to get into positions where you can more easily do your job of peeling or catching the enemy team.

Masteries Back to Top

Jungle

Jungle masteries above

For Sejuani Jungle, I like to go 12/0/18 masteries, boosting my damage and getting the tanky stats that Sejuani loves so much.
The masteries are pretty self explanatory but I will still discuss some things that people might questions.
  • Recovery over Unyielding - The only reason that you run Recovery over Unyielding is purely because 113.png has a weak early game and her clear takes a toll on her. Recovery heals you a bit making that clear a bit less punishing.
  • Tough Skin over Explorer - You want to run Tough Skin to help out your early clear as well as reducing the damage that you take throughout the game just a little bit during skirmishes and teamfights, it is only a couple damage less than otherwise but it has saved me before.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Top

Use the Jungle page except you can use grasp if you want more lane damage.

For top lane the Masteries are pretty self explanatory. You want to run the runes that maximize your one on one damage, while still getting nice early game masteries like Savagery and Recovery. Some explanation over some mastery choices;
  • Recovery over Unyielding - The only reason that you run Recovery over Unyielding is  because 113.png has a weak early game so the enemy laner may try to take advantage of that and poke you out of lane. Recovery heals you a bit making the poke be a little less punishing

Jungle

Passive - Frost sejuanipassive.png

Your passive makes it so when you damage an enemy with either an auto attack or ability, you get 10/15/20/25 armor and 10/15/20/25% slow resistance. This passive is honestly pretty useless but it does help you take less damage early game and the slow resist works well with 3009.png.

Q - Arctic Assault sejuaniarcticassault.png

Your Q is an amazing gap close ability, allowing you to knockup the champions you dash into, stopping you on contact. You can use a 4.png + sejuaniarcticassault.png combo with her but it is a rather clunky combo that doesnt work well in most situations. You want to max this ability last as the damage isnt great and the cooldown is still long.

W - Flail of the Northern Winds sejuaninorthernwinds.png

Your W is you primary damage source as tank Sejuani. It scales with your Maximum HP as well as doing more damage on its initial hit depending on how much total HP the enemy you hit has. You are going to want to max this ability first as it helps your overall damage output and clear the most early in the game.

E - Permafrost sejuaniwintersclaw.png

Your E is a spammable, damaging slow that is applied to every champ that your Frost is applied to. Frost is applied by attacking an enemy with an attack or ability and last on an enemy for 4 seconds. Your E is one of your strongest abilities as it allows your team to follow up on your engages and chase easily. You max this ability second as it increases your damage and CC output greatly.

R - Glacial Prison sejuaniglacialprisonstart.png

The ability that Sejuani is probably most known for is her Ultimate, Glacial Prison. This ability is great at changing the tides of any fights as it provides an AOE stun. You can either use this ultimate to peel the enemies divers off your backline or you can use it to catch the enemy team out, allowing your team to unload of them with their own abilities, easily winning some fights in the matter of seconds. How you use your ultimate though can vary depending on who is fed on the enemy team and your own team. If you have a fed ADC or mage it may be better for you to use your Ult to peel the enemy away from them instead on engaging onto the enemies carries.

Note on early clear

Some people may choose to take sejuaniwintersclaw.png(E) level 2, but I think that taking sejuaniarcticassault.png(Q) level 2 gives you a healthier clear plus it allows you to level 2 gank if you see a perfect opportunity.

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________

Top

Top ability leveling and explanations are the same EXCEPT you might want to take sejuaniarcticassault.png (Q) level 1 so you dont get stuck in an unfavorable trade plus the knockup is good for canceling an enemy attack.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Start these because you have AOE and you are going to back after level 3 to get a refillable potion
upgrade refillable potion to this on first back

Core Items

Either one of these should be your first completed item. Blue is better for ganking; Red is better for dueling.
2 items that you are going to get in pretty much every game.
Boot choices depend on what the enemy teams comp is and how fed you are. More detailed explanation below.

Situational Items

You want to typically get one of these items mid-late game to boost your damage while still getting defensive stats. Detailed comparison below.
You are going to pick up this item in most of your games as a late game item to boost damage and just destroy the enemy adc. Can be substituted though.
Very situational items that you will not pickup in most games. Detailed explanation below.
Items you can get to help your team more than yourself
Not a fan of this item but if you are against a lot of AP then it is a good last item pickup.

Read Either Jungle or Top Depending on Which Youre Playing

(they are almost the same except the first section)

Jungle

(Uses the item visual above)

First Clear and Cinderhulk

The items that you want to get at the start of the game are 1039.png and a 2031.png. You get 1039.png over 1041.png because machete is for auto attack based champions. You are ability reliant so Talisman is a better option.

You are always going to want to start on the bot side so you can get a better leash from your bot lane. Here (CLICK) is a picture of your first 3 camp clear. After you back there you are going to buy a 2032.png so you never have to worry about jungle sustain anymore. Go and clear your other buff than you are ready to gank/continue with your clearing. Finish your Cinderhulk (1401.png - Better for slowing down enemies during ganks and chasing; 1413.png - Better for dueling and smiting a damage dealer to not take as much damage from that target) and get atleast tier 1 boots (1001.png).

Second Item

Now you are going to want to get your second item. Your second item should be either 3025.png (good start against teams with a decent amount of AD) , 3102.png (only get this for 2nd item if there is an immediate AP threat) , or a 3001.png (if you are snowballing and can use the MR it provides).

Boots

Finish your boots by the time you are ready to get your third item. Which boots you get depends on what you want to provide to your team and if you want to counter the enemy team.
  • 3111.png - Mercury Treads are good if you are against a team that has a good amount of CC other than slows. An example team comp you might get these against is: Maokai, Amumu, Annie, Caitlyn, Braum. 3111.png are good against a team like that because you can drastically reduce the amount of time they are able to CC you.
  • 3020.png - Sorc Shoes are good if you are snowballing and want to have more of a damage impact against the enemy team. These boots are more situational because you usually are going to rely on your team to deal damage.
  • 3009.png - These boots are good if you are against a team that has a lot of slows rather than heavy CC. Example team comp you might get these boots against: Gnar, Nunu, Brand, Ashe, Janna.
  • 3047.png - Ninja Tabi are good if you are against autoattack reliant champs and want to reduce the overall damage they can do to you. An example comp you might get these into is: Tryndamere, Master Yi, Kayle, Caitlyn, (any support really).
  • 3158.png - Typically you wont end up buying these if you run any CDR in your runes, but they can be used if you are only getting an 3025.png and not another CDR item. I would suggest getting other, more useful boots though.

Third Item

For your 3rd full item you are going to want to get whichever core item you didn't get the first time as long as you can still use the stats that it gives you. If you got an 3025.png for your second item you are probably going to want to get the 3102.png now. The same goes for if you get a 3102.png first, just get 3025.png next.
Getting these 2 items one after the other, combined with the HP from Cinderhulk, makes sure you have a good amount of health, MR, Armor, and damage decently early in the game.

There is still the possibility that you got 3001.png second item; if you did then you are going to most likely get 3025.png as long as you can use the armor that it provides. If you cannot (you are almost always going to seeing as the other team has an adc), then get a 3102.png.

Fourth Item

For my fourth item I like to finally get a damage item if I havent already. If you did already get an 3001.png then get the core item that you havent gotten yet (3025.png or 3102.png).

The damage items that you have to choose from are going to be either 3151.png or 3001.png. Which one you get depends on the enemy teams comp and your own.
  • 3151.png - Liandry's is my favorable item right now as teams usually have atleast 2 tanks that stack HP, which is what 3151.png works best against as it does damage based on a percent of the enemy's HP. The drawback to 3151.png though is that its damage is AP so if the enemy is already stacking MR, you are better off getting an 3001.png.
  • 3001.png - Abyssal is good if the enemy team has heavy AP damage that you can use the extra MR from this item to help block, or if your OWN team has a lot of AP champions that the enemy team is building MR against;3001.png helps in this situation by reducing the enemy teams MR when they are near you, enhancing your own damage and your teams damage.
Other potential items that you may consider getting instead of these damage items are 3075.png3065.png3026.png,  3512.png, and 3143.png.
  • 3075.png - Thornmail is a good alternative if you are against a heavy AD team comp or their ADC is carrying. Plus the item does damage so you arent losing much by building it instead of 3001.png or 3151.png.
  • 3065.png - Spirit Visage is a good item to get if the enemy team has 2+ heavy AP threats and you feel like you need the extra MR to be able to survive against them. It also has the added benefit of 10% CDR so your abilities will be up quicker.
  • 3026.png - GA is a good item if you are taking a lot of damage from both AD and AP enemies. Also allows you to have a presence after you die as you get to respawn. Personally I dont like building 3026.png all that much.
  • 3512.png - ZZ Rot is a good item if you are taking damage from both AD and AP sources but your team is still ahead and looking to siege. ZZ Rot helps you siege by slowly taking towers in the lane your team is pushing or you can set it up in another lane and create pressure that way.
  • 3143.png - Randuins is a good item if you are against at least 2 sources of crit. An example of some people  you might use this into are: Caitlyn, Ashe, Yasuo, Gangplank, Tryndamere. It is especially good against Yasuo and Ashe because almost every attack from them is a crit so you reduce their damage drastically. But typically I would not bother building 3143.png if im not against at least 2 sources of crit as Thornmail would do just fine against only 1.
If you want to get items to help out your team more rather than yourself, then you should consider getting these items:
  • 3190.png - Locket is a good item if you are against a heavy AP team comp. Make sure you check to make sure that your support has not gotten this item yet and is not already building toward it.
  • 3800.png - Righteous glory is a good item to get if your team is lacking follow up for your engage and/or the enemy team has a good amount of kiting ability.

Fifth Item (Final Item)

Ok so for you last item you are going to want to look at their team and really think what is damaging you still and what you are lacking in teamfights. You are going to want to look back at the Third Item choices and the Fourth Item choices. Looking at what you havent picked up yet, you need to think about whether you are lacking damage or tankiness.
If you are lacking damage and have not already picked up an 3001.pngor 3151.png, then perhaps do that now.
If you are lacking tankiness and have not already picked up an 3075.png or 3026.png, then consider if either one of those would help you enough to justify you buying them.

Switching Cinderhulk for Sunfire

Something that I like to do, and something that I believe can help your survivability a lot, is switching your Cinderhulk item (1413.png1401.png) for Sunfire Cape (3068.png). This trade can help you out by giving you 50 more Armor, almost as much HP, and the same amount of burn damage to champions.  Although you do lose the ability to smite champions, the benefits that the smite gives becomes almost unnoticeable later in the game.

However, if you are against a heavy AP team and you have both 3102.png and 3065.png, then you should probably keep the Cinderhulk (1413.png1401.png) as you are getting more HP that way and you dont need the extra 50 armor that badly.

Potion

After you have completed your full build and have money laying around, you should always buy a potion before you leave base.
  •  2138.png - Elixer of Iron is the preferred potion to buy as it increases you already strong tanking abilities as well as adding damage to your W, as it scales with HP.
  • 2139.png - Elixer of Sorcery is another potion that you can get buy but it is more situational as you probably only want to get it if your team as a whole is lacking a bit of the damage needed to finish off the enemy. Generally it isnt as effective as 2138.png.

Example Full Builds

These are just example builds and your build may differ.

Starter Items and Bami's Cinder

Once you load into the rift you are going to want to pick up a 2033.png. You want to buy this because it provides you with early sustain and you can proc the damage from activating the potion very easily with your W ticks.

After you get some gold from farming and possibly kills you are going to want to pick early 1001.png and a 3751.png.
  • 1001.png - Tier one boots are good to get to lane quicker after backs and to get away from the laner and ganks
  • 3751.png - Bami's Cinder is a good early buy as it deals a decent amount of damage, providing wave clear, and constantly enabling you to proc your mastery Grasp Of The Undying. You are going to want to sit on just the Bamis Cinder until you already have 2 or 3 full items. Sitting on the Bamis is good early because it already does decent damage and you can get more gold value by buying other items before finishing 3068.png

First Item

Now you are going to want to get your first item. Your first item should be either 3025.png (good start against teams with a decent amount of AD) , 3102.png (only get this for 2nd item if there is an immediate AP threat) , or a 3001.png (if you are snowballing and can use the MR it provides).

  • 3158.png - Typically you wont end up buying these if you run any CDR in your runes, but they can be used if you are only getting an 3025.png and not another CDR item. I would suggest getting other, more useful boots though.

Second Item

For your 2nd full item you are going to want to get whichever core item you didn't get the first time as long as you can still use the stats that it gives you. If you got an 3025.png for your first item you are probably going to want to get the 3102.png now. The same goes for if you get a 3102.png first, just get 3025.png next.
Getting these 2 items one after the other, combined with the HP from 3751.png, makes sure you have a good amount of health, MR, Armor, and damage decently early in the game.

There is still the possibility that you got 3001.png first item; if you did then you are going to most likely get 3025.png as long as you can use the armor that it provides. If you cannot (you are almost always going to seeing as the other team has an adc), then get a 3102.png.

Third Item

You now have the option of finishing your 3068.png or building a damage item (either 3001.png or 3151.png). To decide whether you want to buy a Sunfire or a damage item, you need to see whether you are fed and can use the damage to dominate the game more, or if you are not doing the best and may want the extra HP and Armor that finishing the 3068.png provides.

For more information regarding buying an 3001.png or 3151.png look in the "Fourth Item" category.

Fourth Item

For my third item I like to finally get a damage item if I havent already. If you did already get an 3001.png then get the core item that you havent gotten yet (3025.png or 3102.png).

Below is info on the actual matchups, sorted by whether you are playing Jungle or Top.

Jungle Matchups Back to Top

Elise, Evelynn, Graves, Lee Sin, Nidalee, and Nunu listed

Difficulty rating is in Stars; the more stars, the harder they are

Elise

60.png

★★★✰✰

Elise can be a hard matchup because if she is good, she can out-gank you, out-duel you, and invade you. The matchup can be in your favor though because if she doesnt get an early lead for her team, then she is just a glorified stun bot.

Make sure you ward river at 1:30 to watch for if she invades you level 2.

Evelynn

28.png

★★★★★

Evelynn will almost always invade you making your life a living hell early game.
She does fall off later in the game but she will make you want to commit sodoku early-mid game.

Pink river areas and ask your team to pink themselves so she cant get ahead.

Graves

104.png

★★★★★

Graves is a hard matchup because he can invade you, duel you, and create more pressure than you early-mid game. He is snowball reliant though so theres that.

Ward river at 1:30 to prevent an early invade.

Lee Sin

64.png

★★★✰✰

May try to invade and kill you early.
If he isnt a good lee though you can just wait out the time hes good and let him fall off.

Ward river at 1:30 to prevent an early invade.

Nidalee

76.png

★★★✰✰

Can be a hard matchup is she is good as she may try to invade you.
She can outduel you early but she falls off later in the game.

Ward river at 1:30 to prevent an early invade.

Nunu

20.png

★★★✰✰

Nunu can be an annoyance as he will try to invade you all game and make you behind as he possibly can.

Ward river at 1:30 to prevent an early invade.

I only listed the matchups that Sejuani has a lot of trouble with. Everyone not listed there shouldnt be too much of a problem unless the particular player is a god at their champ.

Top Matchups Back to Top

Darius, Ekko, Fizz, Gangplank, Garen, Graves, Irelia, Jax, Malphite, Maokai, Nasus, Poppy, Renekton, Riven, Ryze, Singed, Sion, Swain, Teemo, Trundle, and Vladimir listed

Difficulty rating is in Stars; the more stars, the harder they are

Darius

122.png

★★★★✰

Lane is very hard to win if you are Sejuani. He will heal the damage that you are able to put out early game.
His bleed hurts a lot. Play safe, lose farm, just dont die or he will snowball.

Ekko

245.png

★★★✰✰

Tank Ekko is someone that can be hard to beat; he can do a good amount of damage via his passive and his tankiness is a bit annoying when he hits 6. Be careful about him dodging your ult with his E or his own Ult.

Fizz

105.png

★★★✰✰

Tank Fizz is like tank Ekko in that he has a good amount of damage behind but he is a lot less tanky than Ekko.
Bait him in and counter his Q with your own Q. Watch for his dodging you Ult with his E.

Gangplank

41.png

★★★★✰

Gangplank has annoying poke and he can hurt a lot if you dont get early armor versus him.
Get ganks and try to get him to waste his Oranges so he is very susceptible to ganks.

Garen

86.png

★★✰✰✰

Garen is weaker at early levels so take advantage of that to get a lead and then just out pressure him.
Be careful of his ult though as he can surprise you with the true damage that it can do.

Graves

104.png

★★★★★

Graves is a VERY annoying champion to go against. Do not try to duel him at all or he'll just bully you out of lane even harder since you are now lower HP. Try to pressure other lane as you have better ganks.

Irelia

39.png

★★★★★

Irelia will out trade you with her stun, true damage, and healing.
Like with Graves, try to pressure other lane to get them ahead since you will be behind.

Jax

24.png

★★★★✰

Jax is like a weaker Irelia, he can bully you hard but you can potentially outplay and beat him.
Bait him in and ganks will help you a lot.

Malphite

54.png

★✰✰✰✰

Malphite is a pretty easy match up as he is a tank that is very similar to you as he has good sustained damage and a high impact ultimate. You out trade him though early. Another bonus is that Malph wants to stack armor and you are AP.

Mao'Kai

57.png

★★✰✰✰

Maokai is a farm lane. Neither you nor he should be able to get an upper hand in this match up unless a jungler happens to tilt the lane in eithers favor.

Nasus

75.png

★★★★★

Nasus is a hard lane once he gets his 3211.png he will out damage you, life steal your damage,
and be a huge split pushing distraction. Create pressure in other lanes to snowball your team.

Poppy

78.png

★★★✰✰

Poppy can be annoying is she is able to land her stun consistently. You can beat her as she isn't the strongest early game champ. Once she gets some levels and items she can outduel you.

Renekton

58.png

★★★✰✰

Renekton has a good early game which you need to be careful of.
You can easily out pressure him and soak his damage once you get some HP and Armor.

Riven

92.png

★★✰✰✰

Riven can be annoying if she is good but you should typically be able to beat her.
Interrupt her third Q with your own Q to eliminate a lot of her trading potential.

Ryze

13.png

★★★★★

Ryze is a hard match up as his ability spamming will out damage you heavily and his shield will protect him from most of your own damage. Rush MR and out pressure.

Singed

27.png

★★★★★

Singed is a very hard match up because he is incredibly annoying and you cannot keep him held down.
Try to just farm as much as possible and help other laners get ahead.

Sion

14.png

★★✰✰✰

Sion is an easy match up as you can cancel Sion's Q with a simple Q of your own.
Once you do that its an easy trade win.

Swain

50.png

★★★★★

Swain is very hard to beat as he will heal all the damage you deal to him once he hits 6.
You can beat him in pressure as your team fighting is a lot better.

Teemo

17.png

★★★✰✰

Teemo is just like Gangplank as he is annoying but if you lock him down he is easy gold for you and your jungler.

Trundle

48.png

★★★✰✰

Trundle is a skill based match up as if you play it right, you can kill him early but make sure you dont use your Q to engage on him if there is any room for him to trap you with his E. His ultimate can be a problem though as it is made to counter tanks by stealing Armor, MR, and draining HP.

Vladimir

8.png

★★★★✰

Annoying but tamer than someone like Swain, you can duel him with help from the jungler easily.
Solo though he will just heal before you can finish him off.

Some of these match ups seems really harsh but I kind of exaggerate some of the match ups because they are REALLY annoying.

Jungle Routes Back to Top

The most effective jungle routes for Sejuani that I have found

through countless games with her are the following:

Blue Side

Simple
Krugs (Smite) > Ward red > Raptors > Do red (Smite) > Wolves > Blue (Smite) > Gromp

Explained
For blue side I like to start with the Krugs and have my bot lane leash me which I smite as soon as they spawn so I can start abusing the on hit stun that they offer as a buff. Save your smite until the camp is low if you have a Jhin or Twitch on your team helping with the leash as they may accidentally steal it with Poison or 4th shot. After Krugs you want to ward the bush by your Red to see if the enemy Jungler is trying to invade you. Take your raptor camp by standing in the middle of them all and only hitting the large raptor. Your W will kill the small raptors on its own. After raptors, do your red, smiting it for the HP. Next do wolves than Blue buff, smiting Blue for the mana to take it faster. Then you can do your Gromp and back and buy your Smite upgrade.

Red Side

Simple
Ward river 1:25-1:30 > Gromp (Smite) > Blue > Wolves > BACK and buy Hunters Potion or Hunters Machete > Raptors > Red (Smite) > Krugs > Scuttle Crab

Explained
For red side I like to ward the river between both of the entrences to my side of the jungle at around 1:25 to 1:30 so that while I take my Gromp and Blue buff, I will know whether or not I am getting invaded by the enemy jungler. So you want to start Gromp, smiting it as it spawns to get the buff it offers. Save your smite until the camp is low if you have a Jhin or Twitch on your team helping with the leash as they may accidentally steal it with Poison or 4th shot. After your Gromp, do your Blue followed by your Wolves. You dont have to smite either. Back and buy your hunters potion (usually for beginners becauses its more forgiving) or your hunters machete (for advanced as it doesnt offer as much sustain but gives you enough). Go to your Raptors and do them, followed by Red (smite for hp), and then Krugs. You can now do the scuttle crab if you want and it hasnt been taken by the enemy jungler.

About Me Back to Top

I'm dying inside and I am a Diamond 4/5 player who has mained Sejuani in one form or another for most of Season 5 and the whole of Season 6.

I currently enjoy playing a lot of Sejuani Top Lane on my smurf and I used to play a ton of AP Sejuani mid, which I had made a guide for but I didnt finish it.

Feel free to ask any and all questions that you have throughout reading the guide in the comments.
