Summoner Spells Back to Top

Hello and welcome to my guide for Sejuani!!

A bit about me, I am a player that basically plays every role, but main that of the support. I ended Gold 5 in season 5, Gold 3 in season 6, and I aim to end at least Platinum 5 by the end of this season, as well as hoping to get Gold  or higher in Flex Ranked.

This guide will be about how to play Sejuani in the Top Lane, however, there'll be some information for Sejuani Jungle in this guide as well!!

I only recently started experimenting with the new Seju, but I like what I saw so far and I play her often in the Top Lane these days.

"Trust nothing but your strength" ~ Sejuani

But with that said, lets begin!

Summoner Spell options:

4.png12.png
This is the most common for top laners. Teleport 12.png allows you to do many things, such as protecting tower and ganking other lanes. If you got a champion like 154.png on your team and use 12.png on a blob of his passive, he can't die cause that blob cannot be killed.
This spell also allows you to get back to lane if you got pushed in and low way too early so you don't miss farm.
Always pick Flash 4.png so you can either, engage, disengage or escape a nasty situation.

4.png14.png
Ignite 14.png is also a spell that is sometimes picked to be able to snowball. It can be useful, especially since Seju doesn't have too much damage early game, and this spell can secure her a kill. You are less mobile however, and can't help anywhere instantly on the map if you go for 14.png
Always pick Flash 4.png so you can either, engage, disengage or escape a nasty situation.

4.png7.png
I have seen it happen and I have seen it work, but I am not a fan of this combination, if no one has 7.png though, you could consider it, but your ADC most likely has it. It gives no combat or kill pressure so this is why I don't take it.
Always pick Flash 4.png so you can either, engage, disengage or escape a nasty situation.

4.png6.png
Taking Ghost 6.png can work and help you down chase enemies to chain your CC, but as with Ignite 14.png you have less pressure on the map and the enemy might make use of that.
Always pick Flash 4.png so you can either, engage, disengage or escape a nasty situation.

Jungle Summoner spells:

4.png11.png
Flash is a nice tool to either engage on your enemy, disengage from them, or, to close the gap between you and the enemy in case your sejuaniq.png is on cooldown. Don't use 4.png when sejuaniq.png is on cooldown to poke, only use 4.png when your sejuaniq.png is on cooldown and you can secure a kill with it. Otherwise it can be a waste, and cost you your life later on.

6.png11.png
Not recommended to go, but I have seen people run it so they can chase down any run away opponents so they can keep their CC chain going.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

Masteries are 0/12/18, running Grasp of the Undying

Masteries can be shifted around, but this is what I run:

Cunning tree:

Wanderer:
For the extra movement speed once you roam or made a teleport play.
Assassin:
So you deal more damage when you are alone in lane.
Merciless:
You are in for a few long trades later, and the extra damage when your opponent gets low is really nice.
Bandit:
Extra gold to fill the pockets is never wrong!

Resolve Tree:

Unyielding:
The extra armor and magic resist make you even more tanky and more difficult to take down!
Though Skin:
You often find tanks or bruisers in the top lane, now their basic attacks do less damage!
Veterans Scars:
Tanks need health. So you take this. Sejuani's W sejuaniw.png also scales with this stat so it does more damage if you take this mastery.
Perseverance or Fearless:
Take Perseverance when you want more health regen, allowing you to stay in lane longer. Take Fearless incase you want to trade a lot.
Swiftness:
Makes you less vulnerable to slows, making you able to chase down your opponent better and maybe even kill him. Or, this can save you when you are escaping an enemy. Sejuani needs to get strong early, which makes the other mastery less suited for her, but not terrible.
Grasp of the Undying
Every 4 seconds in battle you'll heal yourself for 1,5% of your max health when you attack your enemy, as well as dealing (magic) damage equal to 3% of your max health (which you'll have a lot as you are a tank)

Alternative options Cunning Tree:

Secret stash:
So you get cookies instead of pots.
Meditation:
For some mana regen in lane. Sejuani uses lots of mana.
Dangerous game:
The regen of health and mana is nice, you are a tank so you'll most likely get at least a few assists and kills.

Alternative options Resolve Tree:

Recovery:
For more sustain in lane so you can stay to cs longer.
Explorer:
In case you wanna roam and make plays around the map. Siegemaster can be a good mastery, be you'll most likely not be near the tower too much after getting an item or two so it falls off later.
Perseverance or Fearless:
Take Perseverance when you want more health regen, allowing you to stay in lane longer. Take Fearless incase you want to trade a lot.
Legendary Guardian:
Good keystone for late game during team fights, but you'll be useful in team fights even without the keystone, but it still is an option if you don't want the health regen.
Keystone, Courage of the Colossus:
You have plenty of hard CC, so this can be an option as well, though it is weaker early game since you're alone in lane for w while. This is more a team fight keystone. If you do a lot of Solo Que, I recommend Grasp of the Undying.

Jungle Masteries:

Basically the same, but I switch Assassin with Runic Affinity in the Cunning Tree

Basic Skills maxing order:

sejuaniw.png>>>>>sejuanie.png>>>>>sejuaniq.png

This is something that shouldn't need to be said but, always put a skill point in your ultimate sejuanir.png whenever you can!!

Which is at lvl 6, 11 and 16!!

Why in this order???

sejuaniw.png
Sejuani's main damage ability. You need to start with this so you can trade in the early game, knock back enemies and it deals damage two times, first when swinging in a cone, second with the straight swing. You also need this skill to stack your E sejuanie.png more quickly, cause if you go sejuaniq.png first and then either sejuaniw.png or sejuanie.png trading will be hard.
Reasons are:
sejuaniq.png + sejuaniw.png = nice damage, but you are missing the burst and stun from your sejuanie.png!!!
sejuaniq.png + sejuanie.png =  yes you have your burst ability, but no ability to help you gather the stacks for it, making you basic attack depending on your burst, which is dangerous against ranged champions!!
This is why you ALWAYS, start sejuaniw.png first. Also, with each skill point you put in it, its cooldown gets shorter with 1 second.

sejuanie.png
The biggest burst skill of Sejuani. When the gathers max stacks using her sejuaniw.png and basic attacks, she will stun the target, and then when basic attacking it quite some burst damage on them! This makes the sejuaniw.png + sejuanie.png such a strong combo.

sejuaniq.png
A versitile skill used for many things. For dashing over walls, dashing into team fights, knocking up enemies or to make an escape, the ability can be used for a lot of things. Yet, because the other skills combine so well and do so much damage, you take this skill at lvl 3, and you max it last. Its damage doesn't get that much higher, but the mana cost goes up quite a bit which each level which is why  you take it last.

sejuanir.png
Strong skill, also used in different ways. For engage, disengage, and, a combo stun when timed right. If you throw your ult a certain distance, it creates an ice field/storm, slowing enemies and dealing damage if the enemy stays in them to long. The combo I often use and defeated opponents with is sejuaniw.png + aa + sejuanie.png + aa + sejuanir.png + aa +sejuaniw.png.
Instead of using an aa after your sejuanir.png, you can also use sejuaniw.png instead.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Safe start. For healing as well as dealing more damage.
Possible start VS AD Laner or AD heavy enemy team.
Possible start against an AP Laner or AP heavy teams. Keep in mind you only got 1 health pot though, so not much sustain!
Also a possible start since Seju's W scales with Health. Not a recommended start though, especially not for beginners!
    Jungle Start

Core Items

These are nice early items to have. Bami's Cinder gives health and deals damage around you, Sheen gives more mana and damage as well. These items work even better against AD enemies, since you can build them into SunFire Cape and Iceborn Gauntlet respectively! If you are afraid you will get bursted down too fast with these items, try getting Bami's Cinder, then Glacial Shroud, and Sheen after that, so you have a bit of tankiness. Of course you get your boots somewhere in between.
Facing a heavy AP enemy team? Then either Spectre's Cowl or Negatron Cloak would be good early items to get in a situation like that, either build it into Abyssal Scepter, or Spirit Visage. I myself prefer Abyssal Scepter, as I do more damage that way, as well as my AP Teammates. If my team is Full AD, I go Spirit Visage first, as it gives more Health and helps with the healing of your keystone.
Pick one of these. Get the Ninja Tabi's if facing a lot of basic attackers and lots of AD, gor for Mercury's Treads in case of a lot of AP and CC. Only get the boots for Cooldown when you really, really need it, which I doubt depending on your build.
Example Build AD heavy, little AP damage. Last item is optional, whichever you prefer. Another armor item or another magic resist, it is up to you, and depends on who deals most damage/is fed on the enemy team. If for example Fizz is really fed, you could go extra magic resist. (In this example, the Randuin's Omen is the situational item)
Example build against AP heavy team, with a bit of AD

Situational Items

Against the fast basic attackers and ADC!
    By lack of support items
If you have slots to fill and don't know what to get, but if you are sure you want health
Possible Jungle items! I have experimented with each of these, but I personally take the Cinderhulk Chilling (blue) smite when I go Jungling, unless I know I can out-duel my opponent, then I take Cinderhulk

Item explanations:

3068.png
It gives health, armor, and thanks to its passive, even deals a little damage each second. I often build 3751.png first, and then check if I need armor or magic resist and build into that. Do I need armor? I go to finish the 3025.png first. Need Magic Resist? Depends which magic resist item is better. If you have a lot of AP in your own team, 3001.png is good, if you have a lot of AD in your team, 3065.png is better.

3025.png
Strong item on Sejuani, it gives armor, cooldown and mana, stats all good for her.
Thanks to the 3057.png component in it, you will deal a little of burst damage too, ideal for your sejuaniw.png + aa + sejuaniq.png + aa + sejuanie.png combo!! This procs the 3057.png 3 times!!

3001.png
Since the stats got swapped around with 3102.png, this item is now even better than before. It gives health, magic resist, cooldown, and health regen. All stats Seju likes! Plus, with this item, you and your AP damage dealers deal more damage to enemies within the range of this item thanks to its passive!

3065.png
If you have a lot of AD on your own team, this will be a better magic resist item, as it will help you with your healing and laning from your masteries and keystone, plus it gives more health than the 3001.png

3110.png
Strong armor item, which also gives mana and cooldown.
Its passive is nice against AD champions with high attack speed, such as most ADC, and champions like 11.png157.png23.png102.png56.png

3075.png
Also a strong armor item, giving a whopping 100 armor! Its passive is nice, against basically all ADC and fast attackers like  11.png157.png23.png102.png56.png

3742.png
Gives armor and health and builds up stacks as you walk. At the max of 100, your basic attack will do more damage. A decent AD armor item when facing AD teams.

3143.png
Good item, gives decent health and armor, and reduces damage taken from critical strikes,  which makes this item useful against a variety  of champions, such as the ADC and the fast attackers that have been mentioned before, as some of them do build critical strike, such as 157.png11.png41.png23.png

3083.png
Not only is the health from this item great, so is the passive, which after a certain amount of time out of combat, allows you to regenerate health really fast. Not only that, but the amount of health you get with this item is also great for your sejuaniw.png damage, as it scales from health.

More situational items:

3060.png

If they have a lot of wave clear on their spells and your own support doesn't/can't buy this, it can be an option... though I have never bought it myself yet.

3190.png
Need shields but the support doesn't but it and you have space left and don't know what to buy anyway? This item here might help you out a bit.

3107.png
An item if you really have nothing else to buy, which most likely will not be the case, but the stats are nice and extra healing is never wrong... though I myself found no reason to build this, it can be done if you want to try something new.

Jungle Items:

1401.png1413.png1409.png
You most likely want to go for Cinderhulk when you are in the jungle, it gives health, (boosting sejuaniw.png damage) and it helps you dealing a bit of extra damage. Plus, you don't have to build a separate 3068.png if you build this, which is really nice!
Go for the Blue one if you want more CC as it gives a slow, go for the red one for more dueling power and a burn, get the green one if you are really insecure and want more wards to keep an eye on everyone on the map.

1402.png1414.png1410.png
Also an option, but for more active junglers that really want to gank as soon as they hit lvl 3. It gives ability power and movement speed, which are both nice, but you will miss the tankiness from the Cinderhulk here, meaning you'll most likely have to build a 3068.png at some point.
Go for the Blue one if you want more CC as it gives a slow, go for the red one for more dueling power and a burn, get the green one if you are really insecure and want more wards to keep an eye on everyone on the map.

Do they have CC?
No
Do they have burst?
Yes
Is their base damage high?
Quite
Do they have escapes?
Sort of, in the form of her akalismokebomb.png
Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
No, an assassin not often seen in Top Lane

Conclusion:
Medium to hard, if you can put her behind and can keep her CC locked you should be okay. Get plenty of Magic resist and a bit of armor to counter her damage and to help you out. Care though, she can try to escape or use her akalismokebomb.png to disappear and burst you down.

VS

Camille

Hard
Do they have CC?
Yes, a slow and a cage

Do they have burst?
Quite

Is their base damage high?
Yes

Do they have escapes?
Yes

Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
Yes, bruiser

Conclusion:
Hard. Get help from your jungler here, she can easily escape your CC if you do not time it right, and when you try to flee she can easily catch up to you, and, imprison you with her camiller.png

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy
Do they have CC?
Yes

Do they have burst?
Depends on the build

Is their base damage high?
On his Q, yes

Do they have escapes?
No

Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
Yes, tank

I found the match up so far rather easy, as long as you dodge his rupture.png and keep in mind his feralscream.png this match up is not that hard. Just keep in mind his feast.png does True Damage

VS

Darius

Hard
Do they have CC?
Slows

Do they have burst?
Nah

Is their base damage high?
Yes

Do they have escapes?
No

Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
Bruiser

Conclusion:
Hard match up, he can easily poke you out of lane, he can heal you and he can pull you back when you try to get away from him. Best is to farm up, get help from the jungle and build armor as soon as you can. Once you got a few points in your spells, try to CC lock him and take him down.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Medium
Do they have CC?
Slows

Do they have burst?
No

Is their base damage high?
Depends on the runes

Do they have escapes?
No

Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
Tank

Conclusion:
More annoying then hard, just out farm him, make him use his spells and waste health, then CC lock and kill him. The only annoying thing is you can't really build resistances against him as his damage scales of health. Just make sure to get health for yourself and you should be doing okay. Get him behind before he finishes 3083.png or he gets really hard to kill!

VS

Ekko

Medium
Do they have CC?
Yes

Do they have burst?
Yes

Is their base damage high?
Yes

Do they have escapes?
Yes

Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
More an assassin, but he sometimes is build as a tank.

Conclusion:
Don't let this guy get to you, try to farm, but keep distance, get help from the jungle and build magic resistance. Don't be fooled though, even when he builds tank, his damage is insane!!

VS

Fiora

Hard
Do they have CC?
No, but she does have a counter

Do they have burst?
Yes

Is their base damage high?
Yes

Do they have escapes?
Yes

Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
Bruiser

Conclusion:
Hard, she will poke you and try to push you out of the lane, as well as countering your CC, maybe even breaking your chain. She can escape from you with her spells, plus, thanks to her passive, she deals a lot of true damage as well. Getting help here, trying to farm and building armor is your best bet.

VS

Fizz

Hard
Do they have CC?
Yes
Do they have burst?
Yes
Is their base damage high?
Yes
Do they have escapes?
Yes
Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
No, but can be build tanky

Conclusion:
High damage, high burst, a bit of CC and an escape. Try to farm the best you can, poke him when his skills are on cooldown and get some ganks in, this should get you going, with some magic resist in the pocket, this will get easier, but getting there is hard. Keep in mind a tanky Fizz still does a lot of damage!!

VS

Galio

Medium
Do they have CC?
Yes
Do they have burst?
Depends on build, AP = Yes Tank = No
Is their base damage high?
Nah
Do they have escapes?
Yes
Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
Tank
Conclusion:
Just farm and get tankier yourself, that should do the trick. Try to prevent his escapes with your own cc

VS

Gangplank

Medium
Do they have CC?
Slows
Do they have burst?
Yes
Is their base damage high?
Kinda
Do they have escapes?
No
Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
No
Conclusion:
Medium to hard. If you avoid his barrles, this even might be easy, as he is easily cc locked, even after eating an orange. Wait till level 6, then cc lock him and get him down. Don't forget your armor

VS

Gragas

Medium
Do they have CC?
Yes
Do they have burst?
No
Is their base damage high?
Little
Do they have escapes?
Yes
Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
Tank
Conclusion:
More annoying than anything else, avoid his barrels, engage when his body slam is down and CC lock him. Farm, build some magic resist and you should be cool.

VS

Hecarim

Easy
Do they have CC?
A little
Do they have burst?
Only when he gets the chance
Is their base damage high?
No
Do they have escapes?
Sort of
Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
Bit tanky
Conclusion:
Not often seen in lane. In lane this is easy. He needs his movement speed for the damage, without it he does none. You slow and CC him all the time so his damage will not be a problem. If he is jungle, just slow and CC him to reduce his damage, then either run (if it's a 1v2) or fight (1v1)

VS

Illaoi

Medium
Do they have CC?
Slows
Do they have burst?
Meh
Is their base damage high?
Yes
Do they have escapes?
Not really
Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
Bruiser

Conclusion:
Uknown, not faced her yet, but I think it can be hard since her damage is high and because of her illaoie.png

VS

Irelia

Easy
Do they have CC?
Depending on situation.
Do they have burst?
Not really
Is their base damage high?
A bit
Do they have escapes?
If there are minions she can use ireliagatotsu.png to escape
Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
Bruiser

Conclusion:
Battled her once, rather easy, take it easy early, farm and get some armor, lvl 6 and on, CC lock her and stomp her 10ft under

Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
Nope

Conclusion:
Medium - hard.
He will most likely be more annoying than anything else if you itemize properly against him. Farm up, ask for a few ganks and get him behind and it is GG

Kled

Hard
Do they have CC?
Yes
Do they have burst?
Yes

Yes

Do they have burst?
No, unless he goes AP, but that makes him squishy.

Is their base damage high?

Yes

Conclusion:
Medium, depends on who can farm better and who gets their items first.

About matchups... Back to Top

Why can I only give a certain difficulty level?

Well, this is because everyone's play style is different. This makes judging difficulty levels... difficult, some find playing against Riven very easy, some others find it hard.
I can only describe here how the match ups feel for me, though this might differ from what you thing so keep that in mind while looking through them!
What also makes rating this hard, is that you can easily burst this Riven down, but you fall behind because of the jungler. Many things can screw up your lane!!

Things that make rating hard:

Your skill with Sejuani. If you are bad with her, all lanes will be difficult.
The opponent's skill with their champion.
You and your opponent's capability to farm creeps.
Understanding the enemy champion. What can he/she do, what are their skills?
Your deeper knowledge of the enemy champion, knowing how much damage they do, how long their cooldowns are etc.
You never know how much you will get ganked, or how much help you get. If you get camped by the enemy, lane will be harder. If your jungler camps you, you'll have a bit easier time.
That said, your jungler's skill level with their champ (and that of your opponent) can influence match ups as well.

How do I rate my match ups? Well I look at the following things:

Do they have CC?
Do they have burst?
Is their base damage high?
Do they have escapes?
Is the opponent a tank or a bruiser?
Conclusion:

About Me Back to Top

Hi! I am CrystalWolf, a League player from the Netherlands.
I made an account back in 2013, because a friend thought I would love the game, but since he forced it on me a little and explained nothing I never really played.
This was until 2015 or so, when a new friend of mine who also plays League calmly and quietly taught me how to play the game, how it works with runes and masteries, everything. Ever since then, I play League on an almost daily basis. I started with ARAM's, and started practicing on Summoner's Rift much later.
Despite that, I became GOLD V in season 5, and ended in GOLD III in season 6, because I had not enough time and focus to play due to private reasons. My friend told me if I had more time, I could have easily reached Platinum.
Oh well, better luck this season right?

I main the Support Role, but I also like to play ADC or Mid-Lane. Jungle is fun too but I still need to get used to the new changes. Sometimes I play Top, but only when I am playing solo as my friend loves the Top-Lane.  (now he is less online, I play it more often) My favorite champions are Nami and Ashe, but I play lots of others.

This is the first guide I ever made, so I know it might not be perfect and flawed here and there.
Also, this guide shows how I play Nami, and is meant to teach people my way so they can try it out and use it if it works for them. I try to explain as clear as I can why I think some items, spells, masteries etc, are better, but if you still have questions, feel free to ask me!

The guide is not completely done yet, so please be patient.

Why do I play Sejuani? Back to Top

Tanky champion with awesome skills and great skins!

I started playing Sejuani even before her rework, and I already liked her then.
She is a tank, has an escape and a lot of CC, which means she does not get killed easily, but can stun and slow her opponents to either engage without dying, or to disengage from them, or to help her team out when they most need it.
There aren't many tanks I like, but Sejuani is certainly one I do love.

Now after her rework, I was first unsure about what to think of the new her.
But I actually like her better than before!
She can now chain CC like mad, especially when you build cooldown reduction, and with the new burst damage in one of her abilities, she is more than just a simple tank for CC and absorbing damage, she now even deals a decent amount of damage herself!, this can be supported by items even further, which is a thing I tend to rely on a lot.

Also I like her design, her back story, the fact she is a real power woman and not afraid to take charge.
Another reason I like her so much is because of her skins, she got quite few great ones of these, and I love the Poro Rider skin the most of all, though Dawn Chaser is really good as well!!

I have won quite few games with her and wish to further improve, so I play her every so now and then again, hoping to get my lvl 7 mastery soon!

Sejuani Questions and Answers Back to Top

Answers to questions people asked me about 113.png

Why do you like her so much?

She is a tank with a great deal of CC, able to lock her enemies down. Since she is a tank I don't get one shot either, something I hate when that happens to me. Plus, her spells are awesome in my opinion.

Are there things you dislike about her?

She can be hard to get through the early game. She needs her farm and a little bit of her items, which is hard in certain match ups.

Is Sejuani hard to play?

Once you get the hang of her abilities no (they are all skill shots). Especially on later levels, when you have some cooldown, you can almost CC lock your opponent when it has no escapes out counter stuns.

What is your favorite skill/spell?

This would be her sejuaniw.png it hits twice, and has a slow/knock back. Plus it scales of health, which you build on her since she is a tank.

Favorite/Top 3 Sejuani skins in your opinion?
1. Poro Rider Sejuani
2. Dawn Chaser Sejuani
3. Beast Hunter/Dark Rider Sejuani

What is your least favorite skin?
Besides her traditional one, I think Bear Cavalry Sejuani is the one I like the least.

Favorite Items on Sejuani?

Basically her core items, 3001.png3065.png3068.png3025.png3083.png

Good champions to have in your team when you play Sejuani?

Hard question to be honest. But I found that a team like this works nice
Top: 113.png -  Tanky top laner with lots off CC, so a good frontliner
Jungle: 64.png - Can kick enemies towards you so you can chain CC them! Can build tanky if needed.
Mid: 61.png - Her ult works great with your own CC and ult! Also a nice burst AP champion.
ADC: 22.png - Though not very mobile, she can scout the area with one ability and her ult can stun! Plus her attacks slow opponents, rather long range.
Support: 267.png - Heals and CC, what is not to like? Plus, her movement speed boosts when she hits you with spells helps you chain CC!!

Your mastery level on Sejuani?

Level 6 at this moment.

AP Sejuani still good?

Experimenting at the moment!
