Summoner Spells Back to Top

TAKE THESE:
  • 11.png  Smite: Sejuani is one of the weakest characters during the lane phase, due to her extremely weak early game, so Riot has given her no option but to make her jungle. In that case, taking Smite 11.png is essential.
  • 4.png   Flash: I personally prefer Flash 4.png over any other summoner spell. It pairs well with your Arctic Assault and gives you additional mobility on tough situations. Yay for Flash! 4.png
  • 6.png   Ghost: I included ghost 6.png here because some players may find it more useful for chasing and stuff than Flash. 4.png It really comes down to the player's playstyle. I personally wouldn't pick it.
  • 3.png   Exhaust: This can be great for ganking, chasing or melting down the enemy AD carry, but taking the summoner Exhaust 3.png wont give you the additional mobility Sejuani 113_icon_64.png needs. It is still viable-ish though.
AVOID THESE:
  • 7.png   Heal: While it may help in team fights and stuff, you shouldn't be the one taking it.
  • 12.png   Teleport: A viable choice for toplane, but you do not belong there! Might still deliver some interesting ganks, but it's still a no.
  • 21.png    Barrier: Not needed.
  • 1.png    Cleanse: Another summoner spell for the not-so-viable toplane Seju, but not needed in the jungle.
  • 13.png    Clarity: You might run oom every once in a while, but it doesn't cover up the loss for not taking Flash 4.png for example.
  • 14.png   Ignite: Your teammates should have a combined total of 2-3 ignites, so taking yet another doesn't help much. What are you doing with ignite in the jungle anyway?

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

Ferocity:
  • The 6 points here help Seju with her early jungle survival.
Cunning:
  • Both Wanderer and Savagery are nice, it's ok to juggle between these two. Also the buff duration increase helps Seju's early game.
Resolve:
  • The best tree for a tanky jungler like Sejuani to invest most of the mastery points.

sejuanipassive.png
Frost Armor: Damaging an enemy with an ability or basic attack grants bonus armor and reduces movement-slowing effects on Sejuani 113_64.png for 2 seconds. Subsequent damage will increase the duration up to a cap of 8 seconds, where damaging enemies will refresh the duration.
  • This is great for the early levels and helps taking less damage from the jungle monsters.
  • 4 auto-attacks or spell hits are needed to reach the full duration.
  • You can pretty much ignore the passive as it starts building up every time you damage anything. You'll never even notice it exists.

sejuaniarcticassault.png
Arctic Assault: Sejuani charges forward, knocking enemies into the air and deals magic damage. This charge stops after knocking an enemy champion in the air.
  • Grab a point at lvl 2 and max it later. You only need this skill for utility purposes: gap closing, hopping over walls, escaping and for applying Frost.
  • Can be used to charge even trough the thickest walls, such as the mid lane outer turret - wraith camp wall. Mastering this skill can significantly speed up her jungle clear time!
  • Maxing Q first will leave you with a completely useless Permafrost sejuaniwintersclaw.png and a very weak Flail of the Northern Winds. sejuaninorthernwinds.png
  • Be very cautious about wasting this skill especially early in the game if you lack the summoner Flash. 4.png If your Arctic Assault sejuaniarcticassault.png is on a cooldown during a tricky situation, you have only little hope for survival due to Sejuani's poor early game.
  • If possible, try to use Arctic Assault sejuaniarcticassault.png AFTER the enemy has used his/her flash, leaving them no means of escape.
  • Arctic Assault sejuaniarcticassault.png will also stop if she collides with stealthed champions, such as Teemo 17_icon_64.png or Twitch 29_icon_64.pngmaking it a great way to spot these sneaky little fellows! It doesn't reveal them unfortunately, but applies the Frost effect of Permafrost sejuaniwintersclaw.png though.
  • Due to the intense mana cost this skill has, you should not overuse it in the jungle for damaging purposes. You might run out of mana in a tricky situation and that's bad.

sejuaninorthernwinds.png
Flail of the Northern Winds: Sejuani's 113_64.png next basic attack deals bonus magic damage to the target and enemies near it. She then swings her flail, dealing magic damage to nearby enemies over 4 seconds. If this ability is reactivated, (1s CD) Sejuani 113_64.png immediately starts swinging her flail.
  • Applies Frost!
  • This is a MUST to have at lvl 1 if you want to stand a chance in the jungle.
  • Resets your auto-attack timer, similarly to skills like Wukong's 62_64.png Crushing Blow.
  • Take a point at level 1 and max it first. Maxing permafrost first isn't really viable anymore.
  • Starts swinging after few seconds by itself if you don't hit an enemy when you activate it.
  • Later in the game with ~5k health, this skill will melt down almost anybody! Make sure to hug the enemy team whenever you can for insane damage!
  • Scales off Sejuani's 113_64.png bonus health, meaning that your primary focus will be on any items that give health.

sejuaniwintersclaw.png
Permafrost: Sejuani's 113_64.png abilites and basic attacks passively apply Frost to enemies for 4 seconds. Activating the skill converts Frost on enemies within 1000 range to Permafrost, dealing magic damage and reducing their movement speed.
  • Cannot be cast unless there's a nearby enemy unit affected by Frost. sejuaniwintersclaw.png
  • Notice the huge 1000 range this spell has! Letting the enemy escape with 4.png and triggering Permafrost sejuaniwintersclaw.png right after is an insanely evil way to catch up with them.
  • Take a point on Permafrost at lvl 3 and max it second! The slow, burst and the increased duration that the skill gives when leveled up is astonishingly good for ganks.

sejuaniglacialprisonstart.png
Glacial Prison (ultimate): Sejuani 113_64.png throws her frost-forget bola in a line. If the bola hits an enemy champion, it shatters, stunning the target and nearby enemies. If the bola reaches its maximum range, it shatters and slows enemies by 30% instead. All enemies in the shatter area take magic damage and are affected with the Frost debuff.
  • This skill is among the best in the game, and it can literally be the gamebreaker on some occasions.
  • Another skill with a huge range. Also, the explosion area is pretty large at the end of it's range (approximately the size of Amumu's 32_icon_64.pngCurse of the Sad Mummy) so tossing it far away actually gives it more range!
  • Best used on groups of enemy champions.
  • Avoid wasting it, it has a huge cooldown! With max CDR at rank 3 you can still bring it down to 60 seconds.
  • Remember that Glacial Prison sejuaniglacialprisonstart.png applies Frost! Throwing Glacial Prison sejuaniglacialprisonstart.png followed by Permafrost sejuaniwintersclaw.png AFTER the duration can disable the enemy champions' movement speed for quite a while! This gives you and your team plenty of time so finish off the enemy.
  • Avoid doing this alone, as early in the game pretty much every champion can beat Seju 113.png on a 1v1 battle.
  • After hitting level 6, you should focus your first ultimate gank on BOTLINE, because your ultimate can hit 2 targets right off the bat, even 3 if their jungler happens to come around aswell. Successfully ganked bot at this stage will give your team a huge advantage!

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    The most common jungle start.
    Also viable

Core Items

    take these every game!
    some examples vs. AD heavy
some examples vs. AP heavy / lots of CC.
3: Risk free, teamfight oriented, lazy support that doesn't buy locket, roaming, ganking.
    4: Tons of damage

Situational Items

    Against AD
    Against those ap bitches
Some viable, but not preferable AP items. Try these out if you know what you're doing.
    PICK SOME FOR THE TEAM
    IF U GO TANKY
    IF YOU'RE DOING WELL

Start with:

  • 1039_32.png1039.png One of these for early jungle damage. Upgrade to 3710_32.png3714_32.png3720_32.png3721_32.png of your choosing asap. I'd suggest the hp upgrade for obvious reasons.
  • 2003_32.png for sustain in both cases.
  • Either 3340_32.png or 3341_32.png. If you're planning on buying Sightstone, then go for 3341_32.png.
First items:
  • If you're poor with no kills/assists after 1st recall, upgrade your 1039_32.png and go for more pots 2003_32.png
  • Other starter items: 1028_32.png 1006_32.png1011_32.png1031_32.png3117_32.png3067_32.png3009.png
Armor stuff:
  • 3047_32.png If you're afraid of the enemy ADC, then get these. I know I wouldn't be with miss piggy.
  • 3068_32.png Due to the season 5 changes, buying Sunfire is no longer mandatory as the burning aura does not stack with Cinderhulk. 3709_32.png Try Randuin's instead.
  • 3075_32.png Also a viable armor item for Seju113_icon_64.png, only take when they have 3+ AD guys. Take it with Sunfire.
  • 3143_32.png Grab this over Frozen Heart.
  • 3190_32.png An amazing team utility item. Very recommended to buy at the early stages of the game.
  • 3025_32.png Provides some very nice stats and a cool (see what I did there?) active. But the cost is a bit high for a jungler like you.
Never:
  • 3110_32.png Absolute NO for Sejuani! 113_64.png Poor stats, 0 health and the high cost is just terrible, and the mana it gives isn't worthy at all for you.
  • 3157_32.png As an AP mid maybe...
Magic resist:
  • 3111_32.png If you're losing, go for these.
  • 3001_32.png Awesome against casters! Just a little expensive and doesn't give health.
  • 3102_32.png Usually a good 5th or 6th item. Great against champions with high amount of crowd control -abilities. Don't get Banshees if the enemy team has high numbers of poking abilities, such as Nidalee's 76_icon_64.png spears to avoid that the absorption won't go to waste on a low effect skill.
  • 3091_32.png Something I'd buy very rarely but it syncs well with your W as it resets your attack timer. I'd only suggest it against a team of 4-5 AP.
  • 3065_32.png Really strong with its CDR, and pairs well with the regen you gain from Warmog's. 3083_32.png

Magic res & Armor:
  • 3026_32.png A great 6th item. Good choice if you decide to go full tank. Only downfall is the 0 health it gives. If you're rich enough, sell it for a health item and wait for the 5 min to buy it again. You only want to have the active part of the item anyway.
Health & Regen:
  • 3083_32.png A MUST for Sejuani.113_icon_64.pngGrants her W a ton of damage and really synergizes with her perfectly.
  • 3022_32.png Massive health boost with an extra slow. Not an essential item though.
  • 3056_32.png Remade as a support item, but too expensive for them. I'll put this here just in case it gets buffed someday.
  • 3800_32.png Provides some serious hp and an awesome active. Worth trying out.
AP and other stuff:
  • 3151_32.png Very good and easily proccable with your skills. Just a bit costly and stuff.
  • 3100_32.png Might actually work with your W! Unless the game is like 20-1 you should leave this one out.
  • 3027_32.png A ton of health and a nice passive, although it's quite expensive. It does work though!
  • 3020_32.png It's not THAT bad really. Nice when you want to pump up your damage potential.
  • 3089_32.png Naww...
  • 3116_32.png Well, it gives health and AP and a slow but yeah... expensive!

TL;DR 1039_32.png --> 3709_32.png3117_32.png --> 3709_32.png3117_32.png3083_32.png -->3709_32.png3117_32.png3083_32.png

Pick the last 3 items according to the enemy setup and your monetary situation. As long as they have health in them, you're doing good.

VS

Aatrox

Medium

Really annoying with his regenerating attacks. Watch out for his knock-up charge-ish thingy.

VS

Alistar

Easy

Alistar jungle got slaughered by Season 3. I wouldn't worry about him.

VS

Amumu

Medium

He is very similar to Sejuani113_icon_64.pngso usually the player's skill determines the winner.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

Cho isn't the best jungler out there, but will get dangerous if fed. Don't go 1v1 with him!

VS

Darius

Medium

Ganking Darius? No problem. Jungling against a Darius? Shouldn't be a real problem if he doesn't get fed. Buying a Sightstone might prevent some of his ganks. Another champ not to 1v1 against.

VS

Diana

Medium

Watch out for the knock-in she has. Also, she's almost impossible to run away from, so you're better of either fighting her with your team or not approaching her at all. If you do happen to end up in a 1v1 with her, make sure you're way ahead in farm & items so that you'd actually hurt her!

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

Not much of a threat really. Just dodge 'em cleavers!

VS

Elise

Medium

She's squishy early and has a hard time bursting a fat pig like you down. Otherwise she's very strong overall.

VS

Evelynn

Hard

Evelynn can get really annoying, as she can just remove all slows from her with a touch of a button, and it's hard to keep track of this stealthed bitch. Carry a lot more pinks than you normally would to counter this tramp.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Easy

VERY blue dependant, also, just ult or freeze him if he comes with Crowstorm. Best bet is to shut him down early with an invade.

VS

Fiora

Medium

Another rather unplayed champ. Just don't 1v1 with her. She has 0 cc so she's not the best jungle pick anyway. (I admit playing her a lot there though, sob sob)

VS

Gangplank

Easy

After a gazillion nerfs, Gankplank became rather useless. Just watch out, he can, like Evelynn,28_icon_64.pngremove all slows from him, so your best bet is to use ur CC on him after he has used his Remove Scurvy.

VS

Hecarim

Medium

Very strong if correctly played. Just slow him down and avoid him to reach your carries. He is pretty easy to shut down in team fights as Sejuani, because you got 2 slows, and slowing him down actually decreases his attack damage, so try to utilize your CC on both Hecarim and their carries. Make him a sad pony!

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy

Lol @ Heimerdinger jungle. He's easy to kill, but watch out for his turrets' stacking damage.

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

He is very durable and his ganks may hurt, but otherwise, he is fairly manageable. A lane fight with him and the lane partners often goes in your favor.

VS

Jax

Medium

You're pretty durable, so Jax shouldn't be able to hurt you that much. A fed Jax is something everybody should fear though, and as the jungler, it's up to you to stop him!

VS

Kayle

Hard

She's almost unreachable due to her speed & slow and attack range. Also, be aware of her damage immunity ultimate, so make sure to either isolate her or just burst her down first, if you can. Lucky she got nerfed though.

VS

Kha'Zix

Hard

This guy hurts - ALOT, so do not go 1v1 with him. Watch out as he can suddenly jump on you out of nowhere and oneshot you! Ban him please.

VS

Kindred

Medium

You can barely fight them as they outheal your damage during all stages of the game. Focus on killing the marked camps to prevent Kindred from gaining bonus damage.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

Woohooo! Lee Sin is finally nerfed to averageness so you get to outshine him! Get loads of wards to counter him.

VS

Malphite

Hard

His ultimate can turn the tides of any fight more reliably than yours. Your best bet is to ban him. He has a fairly weak damage output though, so if a wild Malph appears, you might even trade well against him.

VS

Maokai

Easy

A fairly slow and low dmg jungler. Just watch out for that CC he has.

VS

Master Yi

Medium

Yi's ultimate renders him immune to slows, making your Permafrost worthless. Not that often seen though.

VS

Nasus

Medium

The most annoying slow in the game! Get a tenacity item and stack loads of health and armor to survive him! Otherwise he's fairly manageable.

VS

Nautilus

Hard

He has more crowd control than you do, so keep that in mind while in team fights. Don't let him reach your carries, because they'll have no means of escaping if Nautilus can grab or stun them! He does fairly low damage though, but is still a force to be reckoned with, so keep him slowed!

VS

Nocturne

Easy

....DAAAARKNESSS!!!! What to do? One auto-attack, Permafrost and Arctic Assault to safety. Never fight him on his... dark ground. He gains a ton of AD on top of it.

VS

Nunu

Easy

A fast jungler, but becomes rather useless as the game moves on. Hard to actually feed a Nunu. Do keep in mind that with Nunu, the enemy team can get objectives such as Dragon & Baron incredibly early so wards!

VS

Olaf

Medium

Another champ with some sort of CC immunity. Don't 1v1 him at any times! And avoid his axes if you're being chased. Save that Q to dash trough a thick wall! Way too nerfed now.

VS

Pantheon

Medium

He has a fairly high damage output, and his ultimate can give him easy kills. Armor stuff and counter jungling are the keys to shut him down.

VS

Poppy

Easy

Poppy jungle may not be that viable, but she does appear every once in a while. She is VERY, VERY blue dependant, so invading her blue will often lead to Poppy afk farming jungle forever, letting you dominate the flow.

VS

Rammus

Easy

One of Rammus's greatest counters is indeed Sejuani. He's a piece of cake, don't worry about him.

VS

Rek'Sai

Medium

Pretty high damage and mobility. You'll outscale her later though.

VS

Renekton

Medium

Beware of his high damage output! Never confront him alone, unless you're the most fed person in the game. Stack armor to reduce his damage.

VS

Rengar

Hard

Very high dmg output, avoid him sneaking to your back whilst jungling!

VS

Riven

Hard

Running away from this bitch can be fairly difficult even as Sejuani. Keep your distance and don't go 1v1!

VS

Sejuani

Medium

Ehh... May the best player win!

VS

Shaco

Hard

Another extremely dangerous champion. Counter jungling hurts Seju real bad, and who else is the king of counter jungling, other than Shaco? Your best bet is to gank more often, and keep other lanes strong + buy a Sightstone to keep track of his movements!

VS

Shen

Easy

I wouldn't worry about Shen, even though he too has a game changing ult. If u see him ultying, throw your own ultimate and your team will thank you later.

VS

Shyvana

Medium

She's a difficult opponent. Hybrid items such as Runic Bulwark negate her damage quite nicely, also Randuin's Omen should counter her hard. Also hardly ever played, so I'm not 100% about this match-up to be honest.

VS

Singed

Medium

Singed jungle is something so random but it still exists. You can stampede over his puddle but never chase him if you can help it! He'll turbo-charge and catch you if you use your Arctic Assault stupidly so be cautious!

VS

Sion

Easy

Never played, easy to burst down. If he's fed or poses a threat, you'll be needing some cc effects to lock him down from gaining life as AD, or loads of burst to get his shield down before exploding in 4 seconds as AP.

VS

Skarner

Medium

Skarner is all about that ultimate. Just protect ur team from getting impaled.

VS

Talon

Medium

Very high damage, but buying a lot of armor will prevent most of it. Also, try to ult him before/after his ult, so that your team is able to finish him off quickly.

VS

Trundle

Medium

Naww this troll is now a force to be reckoned with! His pillar is so lame but you can dash trough the area (not trough the pillar unfortunately)

VS

Tryndamere

Medium

If he chases you, try to estimate when he'll cast his slow as you can completely negate it when you turn your face towards him, making him weep in sorrow. Does some mad damage once fed but that's rarely the case.

VS

Udyr

Hard

Udyr is very durable and should not be confronted alone. Get ready to run for your life if he decides to enter your jungle!

VS

Vi

Medium

I don't see a threat in Vi. You should just hug their carries if she initiates.

VS

Volibear

Medium

Watch out for the pedobear! He does fairly high damage, so avoid confronting him alone.

VS

Warwick

Medium

A wild WW jumps on you - what to do? 1 hit, permafrost and Q to safety! Also, a sightstone helps greatly against Warwick. Insane sustain so you're better off not dueling him.

VS

Wukong

Medium

Keep him slowed before he'll knock and damage the whole team. Avoid his fairly high damage output, depending on his build.

VS

Xin Zhao

Medium

Nerfed to ground as well. He does hurt though so armor helps a lot.

VS

Yasuo

Medium

Master Yi with a knock-up. Buy a ton of armor to counter him!

VS

Zac

Hard

Damn this guy. He can fly from one edge of the map to another. His sustain is also broken... Just be careful!

VS

Zed

Medium

Zed has just fallen back to mediocrity in my opinion. He can easily dodge your ultimate with his skillset which is so lame. Armor and HP is nice against him.

About Sejuani Back to Top

So in this section I would like to talk about Sejuani 113_64.pngand some of her pros, cons and common rumors and beliefs etc. and give a brief explanation to them.

Pros:
  • Lots of natural crowd control. Just look at her. A skill that slows multiple targets all the way to 70%! On top of that, she has no doubt one of the best ultimates in the game sejuaniglacialprisonstart.png, one which stuns the initial target for up to 1.75 seconds and EVERYTHING around it for the same duration. This is a real gamebreaking-heartstopping-force-to-be-reckoned-with -ultimate. As long as it hits. Not to mention the knock up -part of Arctic Assault! sejuaniarcticassault.png

  • Good mobility. Do you know what ninja-moves you can pull off with your Arctic Assault? sejuaniarcticassault.png It can charge trough 95% of all the walls in the game if aimed at a correct angle! One of my secret techniques for kick-ass botlane ganks is when you play in the Purple team (North-east base), you go past blue buff at the right, and instead of going to drake, you make a right and charge with Q to the river brush over the wall, toss Glacial Prison sejuaniglacialprisonstart.png to an unsuspecting Caitlyn 51_64.png and follow up with a greatly slowing Permafrost. sejuaniwintersclaw.png All in one package! The same thing can work for toplane too as in the Blue team, but this is much more effective as there are more people bot. I used my immense Painting skills to create this outstanding artistic picture about the bot lane gank explained above.
     botlane.jpg
  • A great natural tank. You always want to stack health items for tons of damage on your Northern Winds. sejuaninorthernwinds.png Also Sejuani 113_64.png can easily stop the enemy tank/engage champions from reaching your carries simply by applying Frost and converting it into Permafrost sejuaniwintersclaw.png and/or throwing your Glacial Prison sejuaniglacialprisonstart.png on them.

  • Decent jungle clearing time. Not the best, but definitely not the worst. You can mix-max sejuaninorthernwinds.png and sejuaniwintersclaw.png if ganking opportunities are rare and your allies are pushing a lot. More ranks of Northern Winds sejuaninorthernwinds.png slightly increase your clear time, letting you farm ahead of others, but you can still make those ninja-moves with Q and pull off some cool ganks with it so that is why some ranks of E will help you more to let your allies catch up to the slowed enemies and hit them better for more damage. By level 13, it doesn't matter anymore as they're both rank 5 and jungle camps die in mere seconds under that piggy. Otherwise you should max W.

Cons:
  • The worst early game you could ever ask for. 90% of the time you do NOT want to invade as/with Sejuani 113_64.png as she has 0 level one fighting potential. Unless your team consists of  very strong invading champions such as 103_64.png44_64.png27_64.png22_64.png then they can cover up the loss of your level 1 weakness. Not to mention that if the enemy team invades and manages to steal your buff or two, your game is over for the first 15 minutes. Well not quite, but other champions can recover from a buff loss way better than Sejuani 113_64.png

  • Very bad 1v1 or 2v2 pre- level 6. You wouldn't believe how many times Sejuani 113_64.png can fail top lane ganks when their enemy jungler appears at the same time. Almost any champion can outdamage her in the early stages of the game. All her power is shifted towards mid/late game when she has her core build done.

  • Proper itemizing can sometimes be difficult. Seeing allied Sejuanis 113_64.pngrushing stuff like Rylai's3116_32.png first makes me want to die inside. After 1001_32.png1039_32.png you choose to buy 3709_32.png3083_32.png and then start buying the follow-up items according to the enemy team's damage type & your team's needs and your monetary situation.

  • Highly reliant on her ultimate in team fights. If the enemy team engages, it doesn't matter who your Glacial Prison sejuaniglacialprisonstart.png hits, as long as you don't miss it

Rumors, beliefs and other things about Sejuani 113_64.png that can often be heard:

  • "Omfg Seju is a troll champ don't pick her." = this is just BS now! She's banned occasionally and has the highest win ratio! Or atleast used to have. But anyway, screw the haters.
seju winrate.jpg
  • "I never see Seju in games so I don't know what she can do." = Mostly new, curious players can put this one out. Try to impress them so they won't leave the game lobby with a bad taste about Sejuani 113_64.png left in their mouth. Communicating is a key to victory. You can even take the time to explain what her ult does, for example, when you have the time.

  • "FAT PIG!!" = Will people ever learn? It's a BOAR who is called Bristle! And the champion herself is called Sejuani, if you still didn't know. You don't call Nunu 20_64.png a "Fat polar bear" or "Willump" do you?

Introduction & Stuff Back to Top

Hey there! I go by the summoner name makaronilaama and I play at EU/West. I created this guide about Sejuani at the end of 2012, when she used to be my favorite champion. She's still fun to play when mastered, but I've switched my likings onto other champions such as 133.png43.png17.png267.png102.png.

Just as a fun fact: I only play female champions. Well, 95% of the time atleast. Girl power ftw (is Teemo 17_64.png manly enough to be counted as a male?)

Finally Back to Top

Thank you for reading my guide, and I hope it'll aid you on your future games with Sejuani! I did not do a specific section for jungling routes, because it is pretty up to the player and obvious, how to jungle.

I wish you all the best of luck on your games with Sejuani! 113_64.png
  • P.S. feel free to comment, I'll most likely answer back to any questions you might have!
