Summoner Spells Back to Top

I highly prefer 14.png over 3.png or 12.png becasue 14.png Offers much better kill securing than the other two. It is purely a matter of preference however.

Take 14.png I would say about 99% of the time honestly, it gives you the edge in every fight when its up, either against an enemy laner or the enemy jungler, 14.png is often the difference between losing a fight and winning one.

I would only take 3.png on very rare occasions. Like if you expect an enemy Trynd or Zed to get out of hand or something. 14.png is better about 95% of the time though.

Take 12.png ONLY if you plan on split pushing the entire game, and your top laner didn't take it. Otherwise 14.png or even 3.png would likely be the better choice.

New Runes Back to Top

WIth Shaco there are really only two viable keystones imo.

Dark Harvest gives you ridiculous snowball potential and if you get ahead it lets you one shot squishies ridiculously easily. And we take Sudden Impact for more one shot potential, Eyeball Collection for even harder snowballing, and Ravenous Hunter is interchangeable with Relentless Hunter, depending on which is more important to you, healing or movespeed. So you will either be able to heal up in a fight or before a fight. Or have more map presence due to the movespeed.

Electrocute gives you a reliable source of extra burst, not as snowbally as Dark Harvest but more concrete and guaranteed. You will still one shot relatively easily and it should be more consistent throughout your games, but doesn't have as much power as Dark Harvest imo. Lower risk, Lower reward. The next runes are the same as the Dark Harvest page, nothing really changes there.

I like Precision secondary for the constant heal and extra gold that Triumph gives you, really good for a snowball champ like Shaco. And Coup De Grace really helps you finish off those enemies that wouldn't otherwise die immediately, that and it works pretty well in conjunction with your E.

*Note* You can also take Sorcery secondary if you like, if that is what you prefer I recommend Ultimate Hat, and then either Trancendance or Scorch, depending on your preference.

We start with jackinthebox.png because it lets 35.png not require a leash if you place them correctly, this makes Shaco a very strong and self sufficient jungler.

Max E and Q simultaneously together, there is no other way in all honesty.

In some cases you could grab your deceive.png second if you want to do your buff, and then run directly to the enemies buff and steal that, but I wouldn't recommend that until you have a decent amount of Shaco games under your belt.

And always remember that you can dodge abilities not only with your deceive.png but with your hallucinatefull.png as well. With proper timing hallucinatefull.png can be used to dodge literally any ability in the game, so definitely practice with that. It has a fairly low cooldown as well so spam away, and remember that your Clone can also help you take towers and other objectives, so use it when you know you can grab a tower or two.

Also another thing about hallucinatefull.png is that it lets 35.png solo the Dragon very early in the game. Once you have completed your enchantment you should be at least level 6, so head over to the drag when the enemy jungler is topside and use your Boxes and Clone to tank the Dragons damage, it should only take 30 - 45 seconds as long as you have smite.

*Note* if you do not like maxing E and Q simultaneously then max Q first, then E.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Standard start for Shaco. Refillable Potion is slightly worse for the initial clear but much more useful for everything after that.
You could grab 3 Health Potions if you feel like you need the additional sustain for your first clear/gank. However once you become more experienced you hardly need to use any potions at all.
You could upgrade to Hunter's Potion if you'd like to be able to stay in the Jungle virtually forever. However I think it's a bit unnecessary and that you are better off sticking with the regular Refillable Potion. Its all up to preference though.
Try to first back with at least 1200g and pick this up, it makes clearing very very easy and fast and lets you gank much more frequently. Trust me it's great :P

Core Items

This is what I typically build these days. Lots of burst, 1 shot squishies, tons of mobility due to the full 40% CDR. Can actually kill an ADC with one auto if you are far enough ahead.
If you want to build bruiser and be a decent tank for your team. Still provides good damage and utility, can last pretty long during fights.
Full AP one shot if you really want to ;)
Full crit Shaco for those that like cheesing ;) the burst is nuts and if they live you will be able to auto them down extremely fast.

Situational Items

If they have a lot of auto attackers or heavy AD.
If they have a lot of CC.
Sell Warrior for one of these late game. ;)
Useful-ish but I don't like it that much. Only build if you absolutely need it against HP stacking tanks.
    If they are stacking armor.
Good under certain circumstances. However you are Shaco, you shouldn't be getting caught or left vulnerable as you are one of the most elusive champs in the game.
Instead of Deadman's if you are feeling cheeky ;)

VS

Aatrox

Easy
266.png Aatrox isn't that good at the moment so you should have an easy time abusing him, his sustain is pretty crazy but he is very weak early. Just burst him down and take his jungle.

VS

Amumu

Easy
32.png Amumu is super easy, there's no way he can kill you unless you make a severe mistake, so you can fight him early no problem and basically live in his jungle. Just be careful for missing top or mid laners.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium
31.png I haven't had a lot of experience against a Cho. But it should be too difficult if you play to your strengths, you can counter jungle to potentially mess up his stacking and set up traps with the top or mid laner to really screw him over. Just be careful of his Q-W-R combo.

VS

Diana

Medium
131.png Diana can be a bit of a pain if you don't know how to deal with her. She has crazy burst and can 1-shot you if you make a mistake, just make sure you make her waste her abilities and try not to waste yours.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Medium
36.png Mundo walks around his jungle at like half health constantly, just counter jungle and kill him before he becomes too tanky. His damage can be a bit unsuspecting so don't get cocky.

VS

Elise

Medium
60.png Don't get hit by her cocoon and you should be okay. She isn't that impressive early game so try to use that to your advantage. After all she is a squishy spider.

VS

Evelynn

Medium
28.png Lots of burst mixed with constant invisibility and great surprise potential. Eve can definitely be annoying. Just counter jungle early and try to put her behind, you can 1-shot her later if she doesn't build tank.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Easy
9.png He can never fight you at any point in the game. He is very squishy and has pretty low damage early on, he'll either be out of mana or out of health in his jungle so just walk up and backstab him.

VS

Gragas

Medium
79.png Gragas is a pretty good jungler, decent damage and lots of tankiness. But he isn't that difficult to deal with, killing him may be a stretch but you can counter jungle the hell out of him and put him far enough behind that he wont be that useful.

VS

Hecarim

Medium
120.png Hecarim top got nerfed pretty badly recently but Hecarim jungle is still very strong. He has allot of tankiness and loads of damage. He is very good at 2v2s and 3v3s and has pretty high mobility and can wreck in skirmishes and teamfights. Counter jungle him as always and go for kills when you have a clear advantage, he isn't too difficult, you just need to pick your fights intelligently.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium
59.png Jarvan isn't too popular anymore but that doesn't mean that he is weak. He has a good amount of tankiness with surprising burst. You can completely wreck him early on but be careful about making mistakes later in the game as he can punish you.

VS

Jax

Medium
24.png Jax is pretty ridiculous right now, he has a crazy amount of damage and so much tankiness. He is one of the best duelists in the game so be very careful fighting him. If anything try to steal his buffs and jungle camps early on before he gets too strong to handle.

VS

Kayle

Medium
10.png Another really annoying champion. Her ult can completely deny your burst and her damage is completely absurd. Try to abuse her early before she gets super strong. Be very careful in the later stages of the game.

VS

Kindred

Easy
203.png I've had no trouble with Kindred, just steal her jungle camps and buffs and assassinate her whenever you want. You out damage her early and out tank her late. If you play it right then Kindred will have a horrible day.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium
64.png This guy can be a real pain. His Q and E grant him vision so if he times it right, even if you Q away he can still wreck you. Be careful going into his jungle because his early game damage is pretty impressive. Bait out his abilities if you can, try to juke and then go in for the kill.

VS

Maokai

Easy
57.png I never see this guy anymore. But if he does end up in your game don't worry. He is a bit like Nautilus in the sense that he wont be able to really kill you, but can set up kills for his allies pretty easily. Just counter jungle and abuse him early before he gets too tanky.

VS

Master Yi

Easy
11.png Master Yi is pretty easy in my experience. You have more Dps than him if you use your ult and you can easily outplay him with a bit of practice.

VS

Nautilus

Medium
111.png Very, very tanky with decent damage and lots of pick/teamfight power. As with most other champs in the jungle you can abuse him early on. He won't ever really be able to kill you unless you fight him at like 10% health, so you don't really need to worry about him in that sense. Just be careful that there isn't an enemy laner hiding around. Because he can lock you down and set up kills very well.

VS

Nidalee

Easy
76.png She is so insanely squishy. She has the lowest win rate at the moment, she is pretty bad right now and you really shouldn't have any issues. Take her jungle and kill her any chance you get, unless you eat 3-4 spears to the face you should be fine.

VS

Nocturne

Medium
56.png Nocturne has been making a bit of a comeback lately. He does a bunch of damage and can be anywhere on the map anytime. Be careful dueling him without your ult because his Dps is very impressive, counter ganking is easy as he will most likely use his whole combo on one champ which leaves you the opportunity to do the same to him. Counter jungle.

VS

Nunu

Easy
20.png There is no way that he will ever be able to fight you at any point in the game, he usually gets pretty tanky but his damage is garbage and early on his tank stats are not impressive either. He is however very good at securing objectives and counter jungling so be careful of that. But you can basically live in his jungle and kill him whenever you please.

VS

Olaf

Medium
2.png Olaf is a very good jungler with allot of sustain, 1v1 and 2v2 potential. The constant slow from his Q's and consistent true damage from his E can make him pretty annoying to deal with, that and the fact that he build pretty tanky can make Olaf a bit of a pain to handle. Counter jungle safely whenever you can, make sure you always know where he is to counter gank. Fight him if he has abilities on cooldown or if you know you can win.

VS

Pantheon

Medium
80.png Pantheon isn't too bad to be honest. His stun can be pretty annoying and his early game is godly. But if you don't play things poorly and get caught out you will be fine. As always just counter jungle and make sure to go for any kills you can.

VS

Poppy

Medium
78.png Very annoying champion after her rework. She is very tanky, does loads of damage and can completely screw you in fights. Be super careful of standing near walls as her E stuns you for up to 2 seconds. Letting her and her team beat the hell out of you while you can't do anything. Try to counter jungle and screw her over early game. Late game you cant really fight her because she is so tanky she will just outlast you.

VS

Quinn

Medium
133.png Very frustrating champion to deal with, after her little rework Quinn has become quite the terror. She can blind you, instantly create a huge amount of distance between you and her, and kite you around very easily. Her ultimate lets her be just about anywhere on the map at anytime so be very careful. You can still counter jungle her if you play it right. Just make sure that she isn't around. Go for kills when she is low and try to shut her down.

VS

Rammus

Medium
33.png This guy just stacks armor all game and become unkillable. He can duel you pretty easily because not only does he stack armor but his passive turns that bonus armor into AD. So be very careful around Rammus and try to go for kills only when you have a very clear advantage.

VS

Rek'Sai

Medium
421.png Rek'Sai is a very good jungler but she isn't anything special to deal with. Her damage can be pretty surprising and she build very tanky, but if you play it right you can kill her pretty easily. Abuse her early and counter gank whenever you can. Other than that you shouldn't have too much of an issue.

VS

Rengar

Easy
107.png His ult gives him vision of you but to be honest it doesn't really matter too much. Most Rengars go full assassin so you can pop him pretty easily. His early game clears are pretty bad so try to abuse that. Put him behind and make sure he never gets back up.

VS

Sejuani

Easy
113.png Sejuani isn't played too much anymore so you shouldn't really see her that often. She is crazy squishy early on so you can completely destroy her early on. She can never really fight you but she can set up kills for her allies pretty well. Just live in her jungle and destroy her early on before she becomes a mega tank.

VS

Shaco

Medium
35.png Shaco can be insanely annoying obviously. But the advantage that you have is that most Shaco's go full assassin. Which means that later on you can outlast him in fights and he wont be able to kill you. Counter jungling can be iffy as he could be trying to do the same to you. Just try to play smart and go for easy kills to put yourself ahead.

VS

Shyvana

Medium
102.png Her damage is pretty crazy and she is super tanky. But it shouldn't be too difficult to deal with her. Try to fight her when her ult is down and counter jungle the hell out of her to put her behind.

VS

Sion

Easy
14.png Like Sejuani he is very squishy early so you can destroy him pretty easily. He can't duel you but he can set up kills very nicely. Just counter jungle him and make sure you delay his tankiness as much as possible.

VS

Skarner

Medium
72.png Can be pretty annoying to deal with but otherwise nothing special. Don't fight him in his spires because it gives him some pretty nice stat boosts. His ult can screw you over in fights if he goes for you. But otherwise you shouldn't worry about him too much. Counter jungle and win.

VS

Trundle

Medium
48.png Trundle is a very good duelist and is an amazing tank buster. If he ults you then you cannot fight him. He builds pretty tanky whilst still doing very good damage. So try to abuse him early on when he doesn't have any items.

VS

Tryndamere

Medium
23.png If you are going to do anything to a Tryndamere it either needs to be before he hits level 6 or when you know his ult isn't up. If you get more experienced with Shaco you can kite him around and evade him until his ult wears off. But for beginners you shouldn't really fight him when his ult is up, as he will kill you.

VS

Udyr

Medium
77.png Udyr can be a real challenge for Shaco, as he is a very good duelist, very good 2v2 and 3v3. While being very tanky and having crazy damage you shouldn't really try to fight him unless you have a clear advantage.

VS

Vi

Easy
254.png You can pop her pretty easily early on before she gets her items. She can screw you later with her ultimate but you can easily use your ultimate to counter hers. Counter jungle early and abuse her any way you can.

VS

Volibear

Medium
106.png He is super squishy early on but is also a real menace, he does very impressive damage early, does mixed damage, has lots of sustain and can set up kills easily. But he falls off very hard late so just play safe and counter jungle to set him back even further.

VS

Warwick

Medium
19.png Can completely lock you down with his ult and can outduel you while being very tanky. Be careful around this guy and only try to fight him when you have a clear advantage.

VS

Wukong

Easy
62.png Wukong isn't that good at the moment so you can beat him pretty easily. Counter jungling is easy as he is usually wondering around his jungle with low health. He is also pretty squishy early so just stick around his jungle and put him behind.

VS

Xin Zhao

Medium
5.png Xin is very strong right now and can abuse you if you make a mistake. He can be rather tanky and deal loads of damage. So be careful fighting him. If you play it right you can 1v1 him but for beginners I wouldn't recommend it. Just try to counter jungle and put him behind.

VS

Yorick

Medium
83.png Least played champ in the game so you should never really see him. If you do somehow then you should just deal with him how you deal with most other junglers. Counter jungle and put him behind, go for easy kills and play to your strengths.

VS

Zac

Medium
154.png Zac is super tanky and still pumps out good damage. Like other tank junglers he cant really kill you 1v1 but can set up kills for his allies easily. Just counter jungle him and make sure he doesnt get too tanky too quickly.

Jungle Paths Back to Top

Shaco requires no leash due to his W, and I recommend starting red most games.

There are a few options for clearing the jungle.

Red - Invade. Avoid this if you are inexperienced.

Red - Blue - Gromp - Scuttle - Gank top or mid. A solid option for new players.

Red - Wolves - Blue - Scuttle - Gank top or mid. Slightly different but may be a bit easier.

Easily translatable if you are unfortunate enough to start on the Blue side.

The many pros of 35.png

1: One of the best gankers in the game.
2: One of the best split pushers in the game.
3: Can solo dragon at level 6.
4: Can take towers in an instant because of hallucinatefull.png
5: Is quite a good duelist and skirmisher.
6: Can outplay literally any enemy and any scenario.
7: Has loads of escape/chase/kiting power.
8: Control wards do not reveal you when you are in stealth.
9. No leash needed, feelsgood.

The cons of 35.png

1. Is difficult to play at first.
2. Is very difficult to master.
3. Has a very complicated kit..
4. If you fall behind in the early game you will likely stay there all game.
5. Falls off a bit late game, 30+ minutes.
