Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoners

Teleport is incredibly needed on top lanners. Dying in the early game without Tp might lose you the entire lane. It also helps in mid to late game when split pushing with lichbane
and protobelt.

Ignite is my favorite summoner to take on shaco. It lets you get that small bit of extra damage to finish off the kill.

Flash or Exhaust with Teleport could help beginner shaco players, but I know all of you want those kills so I suggest just taking ignite.

New Runes Back to Top

Ingenious Hunter - Easy Protobelt CDR Allows for better Split push.
Manaflow Band - Mana In lane
Transcendence - Extra damage post 40% cdr since you get mostly cdr items.

Masteries Back to Top

For Masteries-

I've been enjoying a Thunderlord's decree build.

First off Ferocity tree.

Sorcery for the extra damage from abilities.

Feast for the extra hp regen since you'll be harassed most of the time in lane.

Natural Talent for the slight damage buff in the early game.

Double edge sword for the extra damage during the game.

In the Cunning tree, I take

Savagery for csing, if you're confident in csing, wanderer is fine too

Assassin since I usually get corruption potion first

Merciless for the extra damage since my E is now used as an execution
If you really need the mana regen you can also run  Mediation.

Dangerous game for the clutch plays
Bandit is also viable.

Since Shaco has a lot of hybrid damage Hybrid pen is decent in Precision, but since it was nerfed Intelligence is more viable. I was going Intelligence almost every game, but since Shaco's Q damage got moved to his passive, Precision is arguably as good.

And Thunder lord's decree. The extra burst you can helps a lot, with an easy way to activate it in the early game with hextech revolver and shiv.

Next, Skill order, Post Rework

Shaco's skill leveling is very dependent on your current situation. The two things about skill leveling that will always be the same is that you should get 3 points in Deceive(Q) by level 8 (Q lvl 2, 5 and 8) and to never level your ult after 1 point. This is due to the inefficiency of the ability. It is very uncommon that you will make use of the damage as often as it's up, so there's no need to level it past 1 point. 3 points in Q puts Q back at it's base prerework stealth length, and drops the cd of it by about 2. It has no damage on it anymore so leveling it is unreliable damage, meaning you are just  using it as an escape.

Box(W) max can be done when you're sitting in lane and not leaving. If you are planning on being more of a team player, then you can max Two-Shiv poison(E) as it will give you some reliable poke during the mid game and helps to execute kills.

Most lanners you will be facing in the top lane will have some sort of sustain, rather it be in abilities like Gragas passive or items such as ravenous hydra on ad top lanners, maxing E isn't very efficient. With every level the mana cost goes up with only a small bit of damage being added.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Corruption potion is usual buy. Can start doran 2xpot
Currently I've been going revolver into dirk for early game power. If you're needing extra mana then sheen's a good grab too. If you grab sheen then finish protobelt after.
Ninja vs full ad. Mercs vs high cc. Lucidity if you need cdr, they are also really cheap.

Core Items

Proto for wave clear. Duskblade for burst.
Trinity is good for 1v1ing in offlane and a good grab vs a tanky team or Hyper carries.

Situational Items

Last whisper item vs tank team. IE vs squishy team.
    Surviviability!
    Gunblade if you're full build.
As League changes, the ap shaco build goes in and out of meta. It's hard to say if I will always have a build to make ap shaco work, as currently I don't. I much prefer a hybrid shaco build that gives early game utility and late game power.

I usually rush into Duskblade if I'm ahead, and protobelt if I'm behind or vs a Ranged champion. If I'm vs a tanky team or hyper carry (Fiora Jax Riven Irelia Yasuo ect.) I will get protobelt 1st item then trinity 2nd item for the ability to 1v1 them in side lanes. I get Zhonyas if I'm going the trinity build, GA and IE if I'm going protobelt Duskblade build.

Full builds can look like this
Basic:
Dorans Ring > Corruption potion > Revolver > Serrated Dirk > boots > Duskblade>Lucidity boots>Protobelt>Zhonyas>IE>GA > Sell Protobelt for Gunblade

Vs Tank:
Dorans Ring > Corruption potion > Revolver > Sheen > Protobelt > Merc Treads (Most likely) > Trinity Force > Zhonyas > LDR (Lord Dominiks Regard) > GA/Randuins/Titanic Hydra/other tanky item

Vs Hyper Carry:
Dorans Ring > Corruption potion > Revolver > Serrated Dirk > Protobelt > Ninja Tabi > Duskblade > Trinity Force > Zhonyas > IE/GA/Gunblade

If last item is multiple items, then you choose. Gunblade is placed as an item where you will sell protobelt and boots to buy lucidity and gunblade. IF you already have lucidity, I would suggest not to sell proto as 40% cdr is pretty good, but you can do whatever you'd like.

Boots
Lucidity boots when you aren't going a full cdr build (as shown in build - Basic)
Ninja Tabi vs Hyper carries or high ad team (as shown in build - Hyper Carry)
Merc Treads vs High magic damage or cc (as shown in build - Tank)

Lichbane

"Pink Ward, why no Lichbane?" Lichbane is an item that is very good with a lot of ap. Current state of Shaco doesn't run well with full ap, so I dislike Lichbane.

VS

Cassiopeia

Easy

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png.  Cassiopeia has no way to mitigate damage. She has no hard cc and her only disengage ability is a slight speed up from cassiopeianoxiousblast.png and slow from cassiopeiamiasma.png. IF you're able to dodge her cassiopeianoxiousblast.png with your own deceive.png and get behind her, she is usually dead. When you deceive.png behind her, plant a jackinthebox.png while trying to take in account of fade time. If you get it right, the length of the fear will usually allow for you to get your Thunderlords proc off, pulling her down to half hp, if not killing her. Once you have 3145.png she's a free kill. When she hits level 6 there are 3 ways to dodge cassiopeiapetrifyinggaze.pngdeceive.png away, hallucinatefull.png yourself, or just turn around. If she uses this and she's trying to all in you, bait her towards your jackinthebox.png stack, she won't be able to kill you with them around.

VS

Darius

Medium

In this matchup I would only get 2 pts in jackinthebox.png. Darius is somewhat of a easy to hard matchup. When in the early game, you have a very high possibility to beat him. Most Darius players play him as a lane bully, forcing themselves upon their opponent. This is good for Shaco as you want to fight ontop of your jackinthebox.pngs. If he walks into one of them, deceive.png into him, dodging his dariuscleave.png heal area, and plant a jackinthebox.png behind him. This will block one of his escape routes. After planting the box, combo him with your Auto, twoshivpoison.png and if you have them currently 3057.png and 3145.png which will pretty much take him down to half before you're hurt. Hold onto your hallucinatefull.png and deceive.png if it comes back up so you can dodge his dariusexecute.png because he will use it when he has 4-5 stacks. Usually if you get ontop of him and run away, he will use his dariusaxegrabcone.png to chase after you. Knowing this, use your jackinthebox.png ontop of him as he will try to get in the correct position to hit you with his dariuscleave.png. If he chases you, bait him into your jackinthebox.png trap.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. Tanks in general are easy to hard, dependent on how you make them. If you're impatient, like me, these lanes are incredible difficult. You want to kill them, but the only chance to kill them is pre 9 and before they get a major mr item. Tanks are incredibly grueling afk lanes that you are usually forced to farm in. If you're a patient player and can survive the early game, you should be able to get good farm to deal with squishies in the early to mid game. Shoving your wave in, may seem hard, but isn't if you force your jackinthebox.png and auto the creeps. If the opponent tries to kill your jackinthebox.png just auto him and the jackinthebox.png will aggro him. This is usually when the tank will missplay and you are able to get free damage on him, if not chase him down and kill him. Once you get your 3145.png and 3057.png, you may have enough hybrid damage to push for a kill, but I suggest just playing the lane out until you can roam for kills. Try not to waste 12.pngand use it to get back to lane when you roam away. If the tank is playing super aggro and pushes onto you, you can use a jackinthebox.png trap to kill him as this is most likely him missplaying the lane, very frequently happens with champions like 33.png48.png98.png57.png

If the enemy team has 3 or more tanks and you have the mastery Stormraider's Surge then you will most likely be able to kill tanks since they have no real getaways till level 6. The free damage your jackinthebox.png does will activate Stormraider's so you can easily chase them down.

VS

Ekko

Easy

I get 2 pts in jackinthebox.png . A 3rd will be needed if he buys any mr item. Ekko players use a hit and run style. They will either throw their ekkoW.png to get a free ekkoE.pngekkoQ.png auto combo, or they will throw out their ekkoQ.png to get 1-2 stacks of his passive on you. When he throws out his ekkoQ.png you can tank both hits of it when you're at a high to mid hp range, then sit ontop of your jackinthebox.png. He will most likely be greedy for the passive activation and ekkoE.png onto you before he has his ekkoR.png. Be cautious of your hp though, he has high burst potential, especially if he has Thunderlords. jackinthebox.png are your friends in this matchup.

VS

Fiora

Easy

I get 2-3 jackinthebox.png in this matchup. 3 If she gets early mr. This matchup is very easy, but can get very hard if she snowballs. In higher elo, Fiora players will know that you can fioraq.png > fiorariposte.png into jackinthebox.png to counteract the fear and throw out a cc enhanced fiorariposte.png. Always dodge her fiorariposte.png if she's around your boxes. Outside of that it is usually an easy lane. Try to keep her passive mark towards the area of your jackinthebox.png as she will fioraq.png into them to try to activate the passive. This usually nets you a kill. If she uses fioradance.png on you, stand ontop of your jackinthebox.png or hallucinatefull.png then deceive.png away till the fioradance.png is off of you.

VS

Galio

Hard

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. Different from other tanks, Galio is more of a ranged champion, as he spams abilities to aoe clear waves. If you can bait out his galiobulwark.png before allinning him, you can take away much of his mitigation towards your damage. Once you have your two item power spike, he will usually have a small bit of mr stacked up. Getting jackinthebox.png stacks in place to bait or guide him into them will help to stack up the damage and get a kill on him. Besides this, he's more of a harder matchup as he stacks so much mr while also gaining damage.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. This is a Medium to Hard matchup. Gangplanks similar to tanks as he will be hard to kill due to his ability to run and sustain much of your damage. The best way to beat him is all inning him if he walks into one or two jackinthebox.png. This is another matchup where the jackinthebox.png stack instead of trap is most effective. He will look to harass you fairly often with a parley.png or raisemorale.png>parley.png combo. If you play around his raisemorale.pngdeceive.png in and out of the range of them, you can bait him into wasting his speed he gets from them. Another good tip is deceive.png from fog of war. Gangplanks usually have a raisemorale.png set up to clear wave. When you see them readying their minions (Getting them low to get the gold from a raisemorale.png>parley.png combo) you can deceive.png in, dodging where he will plant his raisemorale.png (usually ontop of the low hp caster minions) and try to poke/harass him with a full combo, planting a jackinthebox.png a distance behind him, taking into account fade time. Once you have your 2 item power spike, it should be easy to get him to half hp, if not lower, with a quick rotation of abilities and items. Be careful though, he has high sustain due to his removescurvy.png. If you get a jackinthebox.png behind him, taking into account fade time, the jackinthebox.png will usually get 3-4 shots off doing around 200 damage. This will usually negate the hp gained from removescurvy.png consumption to get out of the fear effect.

VS

Garen

Hard

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. If he's going super aggro you can level it up to 4pts, but you should be leaving lane around level 9 so having less points in your twoshivpoison.png somewhat handicaps outside of lanning phase. You can't really poke down Garen with your twoshivpoison.png as his garencommand.png and passive help to mitigate damage through sustain and MR. The only real way to kill Garen is if he all in's you ontop of your jackinthebox.png. I usually can't even kill Garen. He can get down to 1/3rd hp, walk away for a few seconds and come back full hp because of his passive, it's annoying I know. Best thing to do in this lane is get 2pts in jackinthebox.png for safety and farm on turret.

New as of 10/21/2016 -
Against this champion I highly suggest rushing a Protobelt. Against champions who are far tankier than you are with high push power, you want to be able to control the waves to allow for you to roam and gank at times. Rushing a Protobelt gives Shaco the waveclear he needs. To add to this, Protobelt also allows for high burst potential against squishy targets in the early game. Get good with this item and you can be one shotting their carries, forcing them to buy mr.

VS

Gnar

Easy

I get 2 pts in jackinthebox.png This matchup is a easy to medium matchup. Gnar never has kill potential on you unless you let him. If he harasses you while you're at high hp, just all in him. You'll mostlikely be able to kill him if you have your early power spike items in 3145.png and 3057.png. If you're having trouble though, allow him to get 2 debuffs of his passive on you, then sit around your boxes. If you're low hp he will get greedy and gnarE.png onto you and into your boxes. If you've been practicing your shaco mechanics, then it should be easy to predict and dodge his gnarR.png if he's at that point. If he does leap onto you with a full enrage bar, sit on your boxes while he's being feared. He'll most likely use his gnarR.png when the fear breaks, and that's when you either deceive.png away or hallucinatefull.png to dodge.

VS

Hecarim

Easy

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png 3pts if any mr is rushed. This is a fairly straight forward lane. Hecarim will usually take 12.png14.png for early kill potential. At level 3 he will all in you with hecarimramp.png>hecarimrapidslash.png>14.png>hecarimrapidslash.png>hecarimrapidslash.png combo. Try to get 2-3 jackinthebox.png stacked up for this fight, as he will not have the damage to kill the jackinthebox.png's without dying to them first. If you can snowball onto a Hecarim, you can usually win the lanning phase of this matchup. After you get 1-2 kills on him, play more safe, keeping 2-3jackinthebox.png stacks ready for a hard engage, but just continuously poke him with twoshivpoison.png as he does not have any hard sustain or mitigation.

VS

Heimerdinger

Hard

I cry in this matchup. You will almost always lose this matchup. Heim is pretty much a low mobile ranged shaco. If you're able to get an early kill on Heim with help from a jungler or missplay by the Heim, you usually can slowly snowball the lane. Dependent on the build Heim is going (Cancer top push build, rushes banner of command into zzrot) there's a chance you won't be able to do anything about the lane, just hope that you're team will help you. Once you get your two item power spike, you can try to all in him, hoping he doesn't have mr by this time. There's really no way to setup jackinthebox.png as he will have you usually pushed into your turret. That is pretty much all the advice I have for this matchup. IF he's a bad Heim you can kill him, but even a mediocre Heim can play him correctly with the cancer, push build.

Get good with this item and you can be one shotting their carries, forcing them to buy mr.

VS

Illaoi

Medium

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png Even if she gets mr, it is hard to wittle her down due to high sustain. Looking to get out of lane as soon as possible is your best bet in this lane. The only Illaoi's I've matched up against missplayed terribly, losing the lane for them. I've seen many good Illaoi make fools of my top lanners though, but I currently have not experienced this. Illaoi's main damage source is her illaoiQ.pngillaoiW.png. Shaco is a very mobile champion, so dodging these are fairly easy. Try not to get hit by her illaoiW.png while ontop of jackinthebox.png as her passive illaoiQ.png will kill your jackinthebox.png. When she uses her illaoiE.png on you, just get out of range, let the passive run out, then deceive.png back in and try to all in her while dodging the illaoiQ.png from her and her passive. This is a very mechanical intensive matchup, so it is up to you for the most part, unless she missplays baddly.

VS

Irelia

Easy

I get 3 pts injackinthebox.png. This matchup is very easy in the early game. Once she gets a 2nd item, it's usually hard for Shaco to deal with her. Her ireliagatotsu.png is stopped by double jackinthebox.png, so if you're baiting with low hp, stand behind them. Most people don't know that they stop dashes, so they won't respect them and look for the easy kill. Be wary of being too low though because her ireliatranscendentblades.png have very long range and do a good amount of damage. This fight is key to playing around your jackinthebox.png as she will have high kill potential when you are low in your creep wave.

VS

Jax

Easy

I get 3 pts in jackinthebox.png This matchup has become much harder than before. Before they buffed/changed Jax's jaxcounterstrike.pngjackinthebox.png's could damage him while he was dodging. Now you have to play more carefully. When in the early game, most Jax's get a level in jaxcounterstrike.png at level 1 or 2 to look for a cheese kill. When this happens, you want to be level 2 so you have deceive.png if you don't, your only chance is that you have a jackinthebox.png nearby to stop his damage or he will kill you. Once you get to level 4, this matchup is very easy as you can play freely around in lane without having much of a chance of dying. His only true burst is with jaxempowertwo.pngjaxleapstrike.pngjaxrelentlessassault.png If you see him auto a creep 2 times and hold his jaxrelentlessassault.png strike, then know that he wants to jump on you to harass you. If he does, stand near 2-3 jackinthebox.pngs as he will jaxleapstrike.png into them. If you're behind 2, they will cancel his jaxleapstrike.png and fear him away. You can either all in him if you know he does not have jaxcounterstrike.png or just poke him. Most of the time the Jax will run away, but if he doesn't, plant a jackinthebox.png ontop of the other jackinthebox.png, as he will most likely not notice and run at you with his jaxcounterstrike.png. If you drop the jackinthebox.png, he should be feared while his jaxcounterstrike.png is on so he can't activate it to stun you, then it's a free kill for you.

VS

Jayce

Hard

In this matchup I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png This is a matchup that's incredibly hard. You have to try to harass him down before he harasses you down. This is a matchup that you need to know how to conserve your mana to make it work. When you get your two item power spike, usually he won't have mr, he rushes tear first, so you can all in him. You almost can guarantee a kill if you're full hp and he walks into a jackinthebox.pngjackinthebox.png's are key point in most range matchups as they aren't able to run away while feared, allowing for you to get a quick setup kill on the opponent. This matchup is mostly dependent on you as the player not getting harassed down and dying. Play for that item spike, and watch for a missplay. Your deceive.png can dodge his jayceQ.png so if he's looking to use it on you, deceive away.

VS

Karma

Easy

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. This matchup is a basic ranged matchup. You want to make jackinthebox.png stacks instead of traps as she has no hard engage. If she walks into one of those jackinthebox.png traps, you can look to jump on her. If she is poking you down with karmaheavenlywave.png, and your around 50-75% hp, she will look to use karmaspiritbond.png on you. When she does this, lead her towards the jackinthebox.png stack, getting behind them so it looks like you're running away, then jump on her. The tether will root you, but she will also be feared, pretty much negating the cc from her karmaspiritbond.png with the cc from your jackinthebox.png. Once you get your 2 item power spike, it is usually free kills from there.

VS

Kennen

Medium

I get 2-3 pts in jackinthebox.png dependent on if he buys MR. Kennen is a harder matchup as he can poke you down with range, then all in you with high burst. Keep in mind the last time he used his abilities. Knowing if h e has an ability up can help to bait him into a jackinthebox.png trap. You want to be making jackinthebox.png traps as he will usually kennenlightningrush.png in on you when you have 2 stacks of his passive. Bait him to your jackinthebox.pngtwoshivpoison.png then deceive.png to bushes as he will most likely kennenshurikenstorm.png when he comes out of feared state. When this happens, throw your hallucinatefull.png towards your tower, and watch as he runs after it. Usually he doesn't have much sustain so you can usually trade with him. Be careful for his burst through kennenbringthelight.png(auto) kennenbringthelight.png, flash kennenlightningrush.png. Your deceive.png doesn't have a long enough range to get away if he kennenshurikenstorm.png you while you're stunned. Also remember, the ability part of his kennenbringthelight.png can hit you while you're invisible(deceive.png).

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

I get 2-3 pts in jackinthebox.png. Dependent on if he gets early mr. Lee sin is an easy to medium matchup. The biggest part that makes this matchup hard is knowing when to bait and knowing when to back. I have a hard concept of this myself as I'm always greedy for the kill. If you aren't fully confident that you are going to get the kill, just go back.

In this matchup you can usually bait Lee sin into your jackinthebox.png trap when he blindmonkqone.png onto you. Once you do this a few times, he'll get scared and will stop blindmonkqone.png into your jackinthebox.png. In this lane, Lee sin seems to have the upper hand on you as he has true vision in his abilities, but knowing this you can use it against him. If you're around 3 bars of hp and he gets a blindmonkqone.png landed on you, deceive.png away before he uses the 2nd part of his blindmonkqone.png as he will think he has the kill. When this happens make sure there are 2 jackinthebox.png near you stacked, as you are going to be deceive.png behind them to stop h is blindmonkqone.png dash. This usually nets you the kill. Another combo Lee sin will do is blindmonkqone.png>blindmonkrkick.png>blindmonkqone.png. If he does this and there are 2 or more jackinthebox.png stacked behind you, then he will blindmonkrkick.png behind those jackinthebox.png and use the 2nd part of his blindmonkqone.png to fly into you, which will be cancelled due to the double stacked jackinthebox.png. It's very hard to poke Lee due to his sustain with blindmonkwone.png so don't worry about spamming twoshivpoison.png on cooldown. If you can get a hard poke while his blindmonkwone.png is down, then go for it.

VS

Lissandra

Easy

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. This matchup is pretty easy. Most of lissandra's abilities are incredibly telegraphed. If you're good at dodging skill shots, you can dodge her lissandraQ.png everytime. Highly suggesting to stay away from your minions. IF she uses her lissandraE.png expect her to be all inning you or getting a gank. If she's walking close to you, she will be looking to get a lissandraW.png>lissandraR.png combo on you. You can usually "dodge" her lissandraR.png with hallucinatefull.png (She will still have lissandraR.png but you know she's looking to use it again) So use your deceive.pnghallucinatefull.png combo to fake her out, making her use her lissandraR.png on your hallucinatefull.png. Usually this will get you the kill as she doesn't have any getaway abilities. left.

VS

Lulu

Medium

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. This matchup is just another regular ranged vs melee matchup. She will harass with luluq.png lulue.png and autos. The only opening you usually has is if she walks into a jackinthebox.png stack, if she misses her luluq.png or if she uses lulue.png on a minion. Most Lulu's play very scared and will run away as soon as they know the missplayed, so getting a kill on her is very hard. You can try to all in her from fog of war. If you watch and she wastes her lulue.pngluluq.png combo while you're out of sight, deceive.png in, getting a jackinthebox.png behind her, account for fade time, and all in her. She will usually activate luluw.png andlulur.png and run away. Do this until it nets you a kill.

VS

Malphite

VS

Mordekaiser

Easy

I get 3pts in jackinthebox.png. This matchup is fairly simple. Morde will look to sustain, cs and harass. Having a jackinthebox.png stack behind you, usually can get you the kill after he harasses you to half hp. When you get about half, morde will get 2 stacks of mordekaisermaceofspades.png, run at you, sometimes flash, then mordekaiserchildrenofthegrave.png and look for the 3rd proc of mordekaisermaceofspades.png as it does a lot of damage. IF you're standing on jackinthebox.png when he flash, he usually will die, as he really has no way to mitigate the damage except using abilities. Getting that 3rd point in jackinthebox.png helps to deny him the abiliity to heal. If you're having troubles with him, farming on tower and waiting for him to dive you is also an option, as usually morde will be greedy for snowballing with the enormous damage on mordekaisermaceofspades.png

VS

Morgana

Hard

In this matchup I usually get 2pts in jackinthebox.png if she is playing passive (just farming cs with autos and tormentedsoil.png) and 3pts if she is pushing onto you, trying to darkbindingmissile.png you. This matchup can be a very mechanical intensive matchup. If you ever get caught by a Morgana darkbindingmissile.png post 6, be ready to run towards your jackinthebox.png stack as this will be the only way to getaway/kill her. This is also your best way to get a free kill on her. She will put a lot of faith in her blackshield.png to mitigate damage, but if she usesdarkbindingmissile.png>tormentedsoil.png> walks to you>soulshackles.png>blackshield.png you can deceive.png to a jackinthebox.png stack OR trap (2 jackinthebox.png stacked and 1 jackinthebox.png further off away, this will allow for Morgana's blackshield.png to break from the first 2 jackinthebox.png while the jackinthebox.png away from the other 2 will apply a fear). This will usually get you a kill. BE CAREFUL THOUGH, she has high damage output if she gets both parts of her soulshackles.png off. (Reexplaining the bait) But using part of her soulshackles.png ability is key to getting a kill on her. Her soulshackles.png gives sight of you and only you so if she sees you deceive.png she will think you're scared and are trying to run which is how the bait works. She thinks you're weak and will be greedy for a kill. IF she has not used her darkbindingmissile.png yet and you have an hallucinatefull.png up, pull your clone towards you and keep it between you and morgana so it can tank the darkbindingmissile.png. This is why the matchup is somewhat mechanical intensive.

VS

Olaf

Easy

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. Biggest thing about Olaf is to watch for his olafragnarok.png cooldown. Spreading out boxes and kiting him away from them when it's up will allow for you to take him back into those boxes once it's down. He will mostlikely continue to chase you until you're dead, just how Olaf players are.

Tanks in general are easy to hard, dependent on how you make them. If you're impatient, like me, these lanes are incredible difficult. VS

Pantheon

Medium

I get 2 pts in jackinthebox.png, 3pts if he gets early mr. This matchup is fairly simple. The only reason it's labeled medium is that Pantheon does a lot of damage with his pantheon_throw.png harass. The simplicity comes from the timing on when you can get a kill. If you're around half hp, Pantheon will almost always go on you for a quick pantheon_throw.png>pantheon_leapbash.png>pantheon_heartseeker.png combo. You can interrupt this with a jackinthebox.png stack as his pantheon_leapbash.png will be cancelled when he uses it on you and you're near 2 boxes. If he continues to fight you ontop of your boxes, usually by using his pantheon_heartseeker.pngdeceive.png behind him and twoshivpoison.png while you watch him die to your 2-3 jackinthebox.pngthat are attacking him.

VS

Poppy

Easy

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. Planting jackinthebox.png against the wall is one of the key ways to counter poppyheroiccharge.png. If a Poppy sees you near the wall, she will most likely use her poppyheroiccharge.png on you, giving you an easy way to bait her. Get 2-3 jackinthebox.png set up there, then walk close and bait her into that wall!

VS

Quinn

Easy

I get 2 pts in jackinthebox.png Quinn looks like a hard matchup, but it actually is really easy. When she's trying to harass you with autos, she will mostly use her quinnE.png ability on you after activating her first passive mark. Once she uses quinnE.png on you, you can stop the leap with 2 or more jackinthebox.png's stacked. She will then have no getaway and try to run from you. You can chase her with your deceive.png for an easy kill. If she buys an early 3155.png and you find it hard to kill her with boxes, get a 3rd point in jackinthebox.png but this is not suggested in this matchup.

VS

Rammus

Easy

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. Tanks in general are easy to hard, dependent on how you make them. If you're impatient, like me, these lanes are incredible difficult. VS

Renekton

Hard

I get 2-3 pts in jackinthebox.png dependent on if he gets early mr. Renekton is one of the hardest lanners to lane against. He is a known lane bully and usually beats his opponent in the early game. His renektoncleave.png can one shot boxes around level 5 with full fury (Red passive bar). IF he is playing over aggressive in the early game, plant jackinthebox.png behind you and get a jackinthebox.png behind him if he renektonsliceanddice.png onto you. If he is playing super aggressive in the early game and you are able to farm on your tower, be careful of his all in potential with furied renektonpreexecute.png. If you're around half hp and he has it up, stand ontop of your boxes or you're going to die. Playing on tower is the only real way to win this matchup unless he missplays or you get jungle ganks.

VS

Riven

Medium

I usually get 2-3 pts of jackinthebox.png in this matchup. This matchup is incredibly skill dependent. Most of the time, the Riven will be trying to harass you with riventricleave.png > autos. If she gets 2 riventricleave.png slashes off on you, then she will probably use the 3rd to knock you up and stun you. Try to be around your boxes. If you're not low she may run away, but if you are mid hp to low hp, then she will use her rivenfengshuiengine.png. If she does and does not have a 2043.png in lane, then deceive.png behind her. If you are confident in your skills then you may try to hallucinatefull.png dodge it, but I do not suggest it. If you have 2-3 jackinthebox.png around, you should be able to beat her. Around level 9, she will get enough block damage in her rivenfeint.png that if she does not use it you should not use twoshivpoison.png because it will just be a waste of mana for you. Only use it if you are going all in on her. Also, if she has around 150 attack damage and is around level 9, her riventricleave.png will be fully leveld up. This means she will have the damage to kill your jackinthebox.png with one riventricleave.png If this is happening, start to double stack your jackinthebox.png. This counters that as she won't be able to kill the jackinthebox.png and will be feared out of her riventricleave.png

VS

Rumble

Hard

I get 2 pts in jackinthebox.png This is a Medium to Hard matchup.Rumble is a very annoying matchup as his rumbleflamethrower.png allows for a high amount of harass without taking creep aggro. Csing is very hard in this lane so I suggest walking around the sides of the lane to stay away from the harass. When you throw your twoshivpoison.png he will follow up with a rumbleshield.png so if you predict this, usually you can push him into overheat (Yellow to Red passive bar). When this happens, his autos are much stronger, but he's unable to mitigate your damage so all inning him is very important during this stage. Try to hold your deceive.png if he's near you as it will be important to get away when he comes out of that overheat stage and will most likely chain rumblegrenade.png>rumblegrenade.png>rumbleflamethrower.png>rumblecarpetbomb.png or rumblecarpetbomb.png>rumbleflamethrower.png>rumblegrenade.png>rumblegrenade.png. This is when you run to reset the fight. Now he's half hp and down and ultimate. If you have 3145.png wait for it to come back up and all in him opening with deceive.png this time.

When playing against Swain, Vlad and Rumble, you want to make jackinthebox.png stacks instead of traps. Stacking 2-3 jackinthebox.png ontop of each other will get you a quick burst to help you get the kill. Before you hit 6, try to get your 3145.png as fast as possible, as it will give you the ability to activate your Thunderlords much easier on these annoying casters since you don't want to be close to them very long. Usually with these champions, they'll look to burst with abilities then run away which is why you want to stack jackinthebox.png

VS

Ryze

Hard

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. The only part in this lane phase that you have a chance to kill him is before level 7 ryze. Once he hits this point, you really don't want to get into melee range of him. The opener you want to do on ryze is with your deceive.png as he will just kite you with his runeprison.png>overload.png. Ryze will always snare you if you get too close to him then run away. His burst potential is very high, and you don't want to all in him with a deceive.png opener as this will leave you with no getaway. So it's very much a give and take. You have to kill him if you all in him, or atleast scare him enough so he doesn't turn on you. Knowing your limits comes very handy in this matchup. Once he gets his 2nd item, you can't 1v1 him because he will kill you with a enhanced runeprison.png. Look to catch him out with a jackinthebox.png stack if he looks to rush at you. Good luck.

VS

Singed

Hard

I usually get 2pts in jackinthebox.png if Singed is proxy farming and 3pts if he is farming in lane. Against singed, getting box stacks is fairly important as he will usually run from them to leave behind his poisontrail.png trail. When playing against singed, he will usually try to combo you with fling.png and run in front of you with poisontrail.png. If you can motion yourself towards your jackinthebox.png stack, leaving a jackinthebox.png further away from that stack, cutting off an escape route so he takes more damage (example: jackinthebox.png stack in lane, then one near bush, a few paces away), he will be feared while being attacked by the other jackinthebox.png. Your only real chance to kill him is pre 6, due to his high mobility when he uses insanitypotion.png. Your only chance of killing him afterwards is if he dives you ontop of your jackinthebox.png

VS

Swain

Hard

I get 2 pts in jackinthebox.png This is a Medium to Hard matchup.  Be wary of Swain's swaintorment.png as it will do a lot of damage in the early game. If you can survive the early part of lane phase and get your first item/2 item spike, you should be able to kill them without also dying. Swain's swainmetamorphism.png gives him good sustain when you're all inning him, but if you have 14.pngor3165.png you can usually kill him. In the early phase of the lane, around level 3 or 6 (You should be 6 before him if you got the Camp) You can bait out his swainshadowgrasp.png and swainbeam.png by walking into your creep wave. Dodging these is super important as he will have no getaways besides 4.png afterwards. If you get away from these two abilities then you will be able to all in him once you get out of the range of swainbeam.png. Getting this early kill will usually net you a kill. IF he's playing super aggro and walks into your jackinthebox.png stack, just kill him. He won't have enough sustain in the early game to mitigate the amount of damage double jackinthebox.png stack, twoshivpoison.pngdeceive.png, autos and thunderlords does. Just make sure to hold your deceive.png to dodge his swainshadowgrasp.png.

Usually with these champions, they'll look to burst with abilities then run away which is why you want to stack jackinthebox.png.

VS

Teemo

Medium

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. This matchup is mostly dependent on the player. I can be really easy, or really hard. If the teemo's playing aggro trying to harass you, it will mostlikely mean it's an easy into a jackinthebox.png stack. Having two or more jackinthebox.pngontop of each other to put out a high amount of damage in one burst is what you're looking to do against teemo. He will try to kite you, so having your jackinthebox.png stack down will allow for you to jump in and try to all in him. Once you have your two item spike, you can usually kill him if he runs into a jackinthebox.png stack. Be wary of his high harass potential so that you don't jump in at low hp, just to die to a blindingdart.png>Auto>toxicshot.png

VS

Trundle

VS

Tryndamere

Easy

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. Trynd is an esay to medium matchup. When he gets enough AD his slashcast.png can kill single stacked jackinthebox.png. The Key to playing against him is always having a jackinthebox.png stacked behind you. In the early parts of the lanning phase, Trynd will try to poke you down with a random crit when you walk into cs. This is fine as he will take aggro from minions. But you do want to watch out for his all in around level 1-3. If he gets a crit on you he will push onto you. Leaving a jackinthebox.png or 2 behind you is key as when he all ins you, he probably won't stop even for boxes. He's going for the kill. The reason I get 2 pts in my jackinthebox.png is because of his undyingrage.png and bloodlust.pngjackinthebox.png become useless while he's ulting except for the fear. So having twoshivpoison.pngleveld up allows for you to poke him down since his bloodlust.png does a bit less than your twoshivpoison.png. Next, having 1 or 2 jackinthebox.png further in the back away from the jackinthebox.png stacks can help to mitigate his damage and the length when he's in undyingrage.png

VS

Vladimir

Hard

I get 2 pts in jackinthebox.png This is a Medium to Hard matchup. When playing against Vlad, his current vladimirtidesofblood.png vladimirtransfusion.png makes him a really good harasser. Standing behind minions will block the vladimirtidesofblood.png shot. When he does vladimirtidesofblood.png he will usually follow up with a vladimirtransfusion.png right after. If you're near a jackinthebox.png stack of 2 or more and he walks into it, all in him. He will most likely vladimirsanguinepool.png away. If he's low hp follow him, if not, setup another jackinthebox.png stack.

When playing against Swain, Vlad and Rumble, you want to make jackinthebox.png stacks instead of traps. Stacking 2-3 jackinthebox.png ontop of each other will get you a quick burst to help you get the kill.

VS

Volibear

Easy

VS

Xin Zhao

Easy

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. One interesting thing about Xin, his xenzhaosweep.png is not effected by the double jackinthebox.png stack, so it is usually useless to stack jackinthebox.png. It is much more efficient to spread your jackinthebox.png into a jackinthebox.png trap. When he uses xenzhaosweep.png on you, you can usually beat him with your jackinthebox.png trap. This matchup is mostly about baiting him into your traps as you should not try to 1v1 him with autos or harass him, as he will most of the time just sustain it back with lifesteal and xenzhaobattlecry.png healing.

VS

Yasuo

Easy

I get 2pts in jackinthebox.png. Yasuo is a fairly easy matchup with skill based parts of it. Yasuo's yasuoE.png gets pushed back by single jackinthebox.png so there is no need to double stack jackinthebox.png. When yasuo is level 6, he will look to get a yasuoQ.png-wind off on you to activate yasuoR.png. When he does this, stand ontop of your jackinthebox.png. IF he's dumb enough, he'll yasuoR.png right ontop of them and die. When you get 2-3 kills on yasuo in lane, there is no point in try to bait him. He will only continue to run into boxes if he's tilted and dumb. So at this point, you want to look to poke him down with twoshivpoison.png. If you watch his 2nd bar filling up, when it's around 75% activate your 2033.png and throw a twoshivpoison.png at him. This will put a dot on him which will negate his shield, making him charge it up again. Once you get your two item spike you can usually kill him.

VS

Yorick

Hard

I get 1pt in jackinthebox.png. Yorick is probably the hardest matchup, good thing he isn't picked often. Yorick is able to kill all of your boxes with just one ghoul. You cannot poke him due to his intensive sustain with yorickravenous.png. The best idea I'd have to beat him is to all in him when you get 3145.png and 3057.png. You set a box down for him to walk into, then drop another jackinthebox.png down when he walks into it and full combo him with deceive.png>twoshivpoison.png>auto behind. If this does not help at all, good luck friend, hope for help from your jungler.

Starting off the Game Back to Top

This Guide is mostly to explain the early lanning phase.

Big key point

I've stopped doing an early camp as early camps are incredibly important to junglers currently. With the swap, I've started running doran's ring which gives early game regen. This regen allows me to place boxes in lane for early lane pushes or early kills on my opponent. I would suggest putting one box in the middle of the lane, one in the brush, and one near the top of the wall from river on the enemy's side, all before minions spawn. An early push can help you get lvl 2 faster.
