Summoner Spells Back to Top

The usual.

Flash and Smite are the bread and butter of jungle. With Shen being able to combo dash into flash or flash into dash, he can be very unpredictable and lethal (usually with a good follow up). Smite heals now, so Shen's lack of sustain isn't a problem in the PvE environment of the jungle IMO.

Ferocity:

Attack Speed is very important to Shen, as it not only increases your damage, but enables you to use more abilities as long as you're hitting something. Without enough Q-empowered attacks, you'll run out of energy, and become a saber swinging bronzie.

Fresh Blood feels more useful than Feast at the moment, since jungle sustain isn't much of a problem. Bonus damage on basic attacks with a measly 6 second cooldown is huge if you ask me. If you're an avid teamplayer (or have dependable carries), then going Expose Weakness is most likely the best and, naturally, the least selfish choice.

Lifesteal and Spellvamp feels more useful than a tiny bit of AD and AP, due to the lack of health recovery sustain. Shen's AP scaling isn't great on Q, but his ult gets humongous with just a fistful of AP. That being said, getting AP to make your ult stronger isn't a good strategy, as a base value ult is just as effective as a bigger ult. After all, you shouldn't be ulting to shield someone; you should be ulting to get there, turn the fight, and drive the most useful objective. Think of the shield as a bonus for giving you more time to finish the ult channel. If I haven't misunderstood, Shen's shenvorpalstar.png Twilight Assault procs spell effects, meaning that spellvamp serves as spell damage lifesteal for it.

Lastly, Double Edged Sword feels like the best choice in the jungle. Since monster damage isn't a big problem, while the damage boost helps you in both PvE and PvP situations, I prefer it over the other options. Battle Trance is a good alternative, if you want to trade some jungle clearspeed for overall safety.

Resolve:

I used to run Recovery before the jungle changes, but now health regen comes naturally with the items you build. Getting a Titanic and Spirit Visage alone will skyrocket your base regen. Now I feel like Unyielding is the better choice, as Shen struggles with resistances, being a health stacking champion. The best route to clean tanking is the equilibrium between health and resistances. It depends on the champion what the most useful health to resistances ratio is.

Tough Skin for jungle is pretty self-explanatory.

EDIT: Runic Armor is what I run again. Flat health is hardly of any use when you start out in the jungle. If Shen's bonus health scalings were better, then maybe, but right now I think the way to go is scaling health seals and 8% of more regening, lifestealing and shield power.

Fearless is the new addition to the resolve page, and I gotta' say I like it. I don't find Insight that useful; It doesn't give me an edge, since more flashing and more smiting doesn't really affect the decisions I make in the game. I used to run Perseverance before, but again, sustaining in the jungle is a cakewalk for the beefy shadow warrior. Fearless also benefits from Unyielding.

Swiftness is the way to go for a ninja. You're playing a basic attacker who's only mobile ability is the dash, and while it's unusable, you'll be depending on the dexterity of your clicks.

Grasp of the Undying has been my personal favorite on Shen ever since it was available. Damage and sustain from health stacking is what you should be wanting. With the new addition of Courage of the Colossus, it's a great contender against my favorite autoattack proc. Choose wisely, my friend.

R>Q>E>W

Q max for the jungle clears. Q's cooldown comes down alot per level up, and the damage against non-champions makes it a must for clearing speeds. Second is the dash, as it also comes down in cooldown, and the damage also goes up. Last comes W, being a very situational ability, and not benefitting from an early maxing, except if you're against ALOT of basic attack-centric champions.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Machete > Talisman since you're an energy champion who's damage output mostly consists of Q-empowered basic attacks. You can go either potion since sustaining in the jungle is not a big deal in this patch.

Core Items

Bami's rush into Tiamat is what I usually like to do. I'd suggest you finish Cinderhulk with any preferable jungle item before going Titanic, and if you're not doing so hot, then rush either DMP or SV depending on what the troubling damage type is.

Situational Items

Some good alternatives depending on the ingame situation.

Health, armor, magic resist, attack speed, on-hit effects, attack damage and movement speed are the things I suggest you should get. Getting your cdr to atleast 30% is very good if not mandatory, as you get to use Q to it's full extent; Basic attacking with only Q-empowered attacks.
