ABOUT ME

Summoner Spells

Smite/flash. Pretty straightfoward summoners because ghost sucks now and you still need to have an extra escape and gapcloser.

6.png

Don't use this anymore since it got nerfed and is a garbage spell for Shyvana now.

3.png With exhaust you sacrifice sticking power and the ability to finish off your opponents for better dueling and sometimes early ganking power, and you also no longer have  a summoner spell that you can reliably use as an escape. In my opinion, exhaust on Shyv SUCKS. The drawbacks outweigh the benefits by far.

Masteries Back to Top

Fervor of the Battle is uncontestedly the best and most reliable keystone for Shyvana. Courage of the Colossus gives you nothing pre-lvl 6 and inbetween your ults, and even with your ult up odds are pretty high that a lot of the times you won't even hit anyone with your ult. A lot of the times you can't really dive into their team safely as well anyway, and Courage of the Colossus doesn't unlike Fervor help you shred their frontline either. If you want to play with CotC, pick something else than Shyv with reliable CC.

As for which mastery points that are better in each tree..

-Ferocity-

Fury vs Sorcery: Fury helps with your early game clear, and Sorcery might be better for dealing damage to champions. I think Fury feels better, but if you prefer Sorcery then by all means go for it. Pick what you feel for. It doesn't really matter that much.

Fresh Blood vs Feast vs Expose Weakness: Feast would help you a lot staying alive during your first clear, but after that point it is not so useful anymore. I usually go Fresh Blood now in S7 just for the extra damage. Feast is however the more safe alternative. Expose weakness is.. well, I don't recommend it since the goal is to always 1v9 and rely on your team as little as possible.

Vampirism vs Natural Talent: Vampirism helps somewhat with your sustain and gives health from all your spells, vs getting a little bit more damage and as much as +10 AD and +15 AP at lvl 18. Both are pretty alright choices. Can't really say which is better, but I think Vampirism is sort of more "safe". I usually pick what gives me the more damage though.

Bounty Hunter vs Double Edged Sword vs Battle Trance: I usually go Battle Trance now because Shyvana is a sustained damage dealing champion and it is nice to have the same damage increase as Double-Edged Sword at max stacks without taking extra damage, but both of those two are good really. Bounty Hunter is extremely unreliable because you can never count on getting kills and also takes too long to stack and sort of useless compared to the other two for this reason.

Battering Blows vs Piercing Thoughts: Your main source of damage is usually physical damage, and synergises very well with the Bloodrazor into Black Cleaver tank shredder build. Always take Battering Blows for the tank-shred and better single-target damage.

Fervor of the Battle vs Warlord's Bloodlust vs Deathfire Touch: DFT is useless on Shyvana for obvious reasons, at least compared to Fervor. Warlord's is better than DFT, but is still very bad and inferior to Fervor. Out of these three choices, Fervor will always be the vastly superior choice.

-Resolve-

Recovery vs Unyielding: Unyielding scales better, but Recovery is much better for your early game clear healthiness. For this reason I recommend Recovery over Unyielding.

Explorer vs Siegemaster vs Tough Skin: Tough Skin is by no contest the by far superior choice here. Tough Skin will give you SO MUCH MORE extra health during your first clear. From the raptor camp alone it is straight-up a 12 damage reduction anytime they attack you.

Runic Armor vs Veteran's Scars: This is more or a preference thing, I guess both work. Lately I have been actually running Runic Armor for the better early sustain in the jungle and overall more healthy clears. Shyvana's early game is pretty bad, so it helps..

Insight vs Perseverance vs Fearless: I put Perseverance here because it is simply the by far most safe mastery to take, early-game health-in-the-jungle-wise at least. It actually makes a huge difference, much more so than what Recovery does. This is also why Recovery plus Perseverance is such a good combination of choice to maintain very a high health and healthy clears in the jungle. Also come late-game and with something like Spirit Visage the health regen when below 25% health is pretty significant.

-Cunning-

This tree mostly sucks for Shyvana. Nothing much of value to pick here, unless you are really horny for the Assassin + Merciless damage increase and play for teh lulz. Thunderlord's Decree and Stormraider's Surge are very inferior to Fervor of the Battle, so don't even think about going those.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Machete is better than Talisman since it lets you clear the jungle much faster. You don't need 3 pots, refillable is enough and better for your wallet.

Core Items

Bloodrazor with red smite and Black Cleaver should be your core build almost 100% of the time. Cinderhulk sucks on Shyv so don't buy it. Tabi are generally better than Mercury's Treads for Shyv.
Now in Season 7 these are pretty much the only good MR items for Shyvana. With the current meta and popular champions Adaptive Helm is usually better for tankiness.
Randuin's Omen is BY FAR the single best armor item in the game for bruisers and tanks. This applies even more now than ADCs are so overpowered and lethality is OP. It also has an amazing AoE slow that can be SUPERSTRONG if used correctly.
    EXAMPLE FULL BUILD
Blue smite is kind of vastly inferior to Red Smite.. Red smite has 20% dmg reduction, true damage over time and is just superior for duelling. Do I need to say more? But if you really prefer blue smite, I guess you could go for it..

Situational Items

VERY STRONG DAMAGE ITEM ON SHYVANA, AFTER YOU HAVE GOTTEN BLOODRAZOR AND BLACK CLEAVER THAT IS. GET THIS IF YOU FEEL LIKE YOU NEED OR CAN GET AWAY WITH MORE DAMAGE OR NEED TO KILL THEIR TANKS EVEN MORE.
GET MERC TREADS IF THEY HAVE LOTS OF AP AND ANNOYING CC, THOUGH IF THEY HAVE EXTREME AMOUNTS OF CC AND NOT SO MUCH AP DMG GET TABI ANYWAY IMO. BERSERKER'S ARE AN ALTERNATIVE IF YOU ARE SNOWBALLING REALLY HARD OR JUST DONT GIVE A DAMN.
Good vs squishy teams but sucks vs tanks as compared to Black Cleaver.
PROBABLY THE SINGLE WORST MR ITEM IN THE GAME. IF MAGIC DAMAGE IS A PROBLEM THERE ARE MUCH, MUCH BETTER ITEMS TO GET THAN THIS. AND IF YOU NEED MORE DAMAGE YOU GO BOTRK, NOT THIS USELESS ITEM.
This item can work but I usually feel like I don't have place or needs for this item and as a last item I'd much rather go Botrk or something else.
SOME OTHER ITEMS THAT CAN BE VERY GOOD AT TIMES
1419.png vs 1413.png

Why take Bloodrazor over Cinderhulk on Shyvana?

Because Shyvana is a high DPS bruiser/fighter and NOT A TANK. Shyvana's main strengths are her damage, clearspeed and objective control. How does Cinderhulk help her consolidating these strengths? IT DOESN'T. It only makes her weaker in these aspects when compared to Bloodrazor. Bloodrazor is an amazing damage item for Shyvana that synergizes very well with her kit. It makes her clearspeed even more amazing, taking of baron/dragon/herald superfast and lets her deal tons of damage to tanks and squishies alike.

Shyvana offers nothing useful in terms of being a tank. She only has one unreliable AoE knock-back crowd control spell and that is about it. As a pure tank or even with Titanic Hydra her damage is very unimpressive, and like previously stated she doesn't really offer anything useful in terms of CC or disruptive abilities. In other words, she's quite useless as a tank. Want to play a tank and build Cinderhulk? Then play something else than Shyv.

3071.png
Why would you build The Black Cleaver? Why would you not opt for a Trinity Force instead?

Because Black Cleaver is an amazing item on Shyvana, believe it or not. It gives 40 AD, 20% CDR, 400 health and the phage passive which helps you stick to your opponents. The armor reduction synergizes very well with the HP shred and attack speed from Bloodrazor, letting you apply BC stacks very fast with you autos + Q to tanky targets and simply being able to destroy their frontline very fast while still being a very lethal threat to any carries and squishies. The item is also very cheap(3000 gold) considering the stats it gives and how good it is to get early for Shyvana. It also has a very good recipe for maintaining early game durability in form of health(Phage + Kindlegem).

3071.png vs 3078.png
Trinity Force is better vs an all-squishy team as long as they don't get any armour items, but once GAs and Zhonya's-es start popping out it falls of rather quickly. It is also a lot more expensive than The Black Cleaver. Vs tanks it is always going to be worse. A LOT WORSE.

VS

Heimerdinger

Hard

All match-ups are sort of the same.. clear your jungle, always be vigilant and never let your guard down so you don't die to the enemy jungler. If you see the enemy jungler on the opposite side of the map, go clear all his/her jungle on your side of the map. You can 1v1 most junglers most of the time, if you can't, well then don't. That's about it.

Strategy Back to Top

Build order is: Machete + refillable into Red smite upgrade > Finish Bloodrazor > Get Ninja Tabi -> Phage into Black Cleaver. After that you need to build resists accordingly, like rushing MR(Adaptive Helm or Spirit Visage) if they got AP mid + top or AP mid + jungle and they are fed etc. Otherwise get Randuin's Omen first.

Shyvana's ganks are pretty weak especially before level 6, farming needs to be prioritised. Thankfully Shyvana has very , very fast clears so you can and should always try to apply pressure in-between clearing. If you see the enemy jungler on the opposite side of the map do try to take his/her jungle camps OR dragon if possible.

Shyvana is a pretty good splitpusher and one of the best duellists in the game. Do try to use this to your advantage if possible.

Shyvana is also as you probably know great at soloing dragon and taking baron. You can a lot of times sneak a baron together with your top laner or bot lane just because you got so much hp % damage and a low cooldown spammable double auto reset.

TEAMFIGHTING

Shyvana's goal in teamfights IS NOT to mindlessly dive the enemy backline with her ult. I recommend prioritising peeling for your carries first, and trying to melt their frontline. This is one of Shyvana's main strengths especially with my build(The Black Cleaver Build): You have the ability to just completely destroy the enemy frontline(while still being able to murder squishies).

Once their frontline and/or assassins are dead or incapacitated and the enemy has used a lot of cooldowns you can go ham on their backline. SOMETIMES you just want to ult straight into the enemy team too, it all depends on so many circumstances really. But in general just ulting in on their ADC the first thing you do in a teamfight will most of the time just get you killed. It is better to go for the safer option which is to try to kill your opponents one by one starting with their frontline which is usually within your reach and won't try to kite you(well they might once they see how fast their health goes down by your damage :D).
