Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoner Spells

Untitled-1.png

4.png Flash is the first Summoner Spell and I recommend always taking it when you're playing this champion. This is because Flash is the best Summoner Spell around. It is a really good and reliable Summoner Spell. It can be used offensively, defensively and is honestly, a really good Spell to take.

12.png Teleport is the second Summoner Spell that you should take on her. This Spell is really good because it can be used to get back to lane quicker and it can also be used to help your team. In the early game, you want to teleport back to lane after your first back. Then you should look for Teleport opportunities where you can help your team.

New Runes Back to Top

Press%20the%20Attack.png?width=32 Press the Attack is a good Rune because you’re a melee champion that is AD with auto attack resetting abilities.

Triumph.png?width=32 Triumph is good as it will allow you to sustain throughout the lane.

Legend%20Tenacity.png?width=32 Legend Tenacity is good if you can get kills, tenacity is pretty good on any champion. Cut Down is also good because you will not be super tanky at the start of the game.

Cut%20Down.png?width=32 Cut down is the only the real option here for Shyvana top. It is still good on her though.

Iron%20Skin.png?width=32 Iron Skin gives you extra armor. This is good because it will protect you against enemy damage but also will prevent some damage against enemy auto attacks and as you’re melee, this will help you out. Overgrowth.png?width=32 Overgrowth should also be taken as it will allow you to get stronger and healthier throughout the game.

Masteries Back to Top

masteries.jpg

For Masteries, I recommend this page. Like Renekton, Shyvana deals a lot of damage deals, most of which is through auto based abilities (her Q). These masteries are good on her as they allow her to deal lots of damage through auto attacks, whilst also being able to sustain and survive. Because of your item choices, this mastery page will become even stronger with items. I like to take points in Resolve as they give her some more defensive stats and allow her to survive and sustain against the toughest of matchups. 179.png

Shyvana’s Passive is Fury of the Dragonborn

Shyvana Deals 10% increased damage to dragons

Additionally, Shyvana gains 5 bonus magic resist and armor permanently by each dragon her team slays.

Screenshot_1.png

Shyvana’s Q is Twin Bite

Shyvana’s next basic attack deals bonus damage and applies on hit effects. Basic attacks against non-structures reduce cooldown by 0.5 seconds

Dragon Form: Twin Bite damages all enemies in a cone in front of her, generating fury and applying on hit effects twice to enemies affected.

Tips and Tricks: Your Q is an auto attack reset, which means you should Auto then use your Q and auto again. This will deal extra damage to the enemies. Also, it will apply Tiamat when you auto, if you’re using it- then go for AA + Q + AA + Tiamat - This is an example combo.

Screenshot_2.png

Shyvana’s W is Burnout

Active: Shyvana surrounds herself in flames for 3 seconds gaining movement speed and dealing damage to enemies in the area.

Hitting an enemy with a basic attack while W is active deals extra damage, also extending her ability duration.

Dragon Form: Burnout has increased range

Tips and Tricks: Your W is very versatile and can be used in multiple ways. It can be used offensively in trades, going for a W+AA+Q+AA combo against melee champions. Or it can be used to escape, the movement speed is quiet good especially with boots. Make sure to not waste your burn out.

Screenshot_3.png

Shyvana’s E is Flame Breath

Active: Shyvana unleashes a fireball dealing damage to enemies hit. The fireball will stop if it collides with an enemy champion. Shyvana’s basic attacks to enemies who are marked by the ball are dealt extra damage.

Dragon Form: The Fireball deals damage to enemies hit. When it hits the ground it will scorch the earth dealing extra damage to enemies who are in the zone

Tips and Tricks: Your E deals extra damage if you follow up with auto attacks. Remember to use that to your advantage when going for a trade. An example combo of this would be E+AA+Q+AA. This is a standard combo on Shyvana. Your E deals damage to enemies hit during the Dragon form, but will also deal damage to them if they stand in the AOE reminisce.

Screenshot_4.png

Shyvana’s Ultimate is Dragon’s Descent

Passive – FURY: Her ultimate can only be cast when she has 100 Fury. She slowly gains fury every second, however this can be increased by auto attacking enemies.

Active: Shyvana leaps into a dragon and dashes towards a direction whilst becoming immune to crowd control.

While in dragon form, her basic attack range is increased, gains health and empowers her basic attacks. She loses 5 fury per second returning to human form once at 0 Fury.

Tips and Tricks: Like your W, your ultimate is very versatile and can be used offensively and defensively. There are many walls that you can jump over with your ultimate. Whilst using your ultimate, you some of your abilities change- slightly. If you’re running low on Fury make sure to auto attack and keep doing so to gain your fury back quickly. If you’re in dragon form- auto attacking enemies will rebuild your Fury count thus making you the dragonborn for longer...

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Dorans Shield is the Recommended Start. The Defensive stats will protect her through her weak points.
If you're in a tough lane/ sustain lane. Take this instead

Core Items

This is your first core item every game.
Your 2nd Item is going to be Boots.
The 3rd item is going to be Frozen Mallet
Fourth major item is going to be Dead Mans Plate
Final two items is going to be Sterak's Gage and Guardian Angel
Remember to Buy Pinks and upgrade trinket

Situational Items

    Example Full Build
Other AD Items (Can add these if you're winning lane)
    Possible Tank Items
In a very hard poke matchup? Pick up Bramble Vest
Shyvana’s early game is sadly very weak, in the first few levels she can be bullied easily. This is why I recommend taking Dorans shield in almost all matchups. This is good because of the health regen and damage block. Your first item is going to be Titanic Hydra. You want to build up to this item, and get it first. This item is good as it will make you tanky but also deal damage. Depending on your matchup, your 2nd items should be boots. You can get either Armor boots or Magic Resist ones. Your next item is going to be sunfire cape. This item is good as you get a lot of armor and health, whilst also having a good item passive that will help in trades and pushing.

Your 3rd item is going to be Frozen Mallet. This item gives 700 health and 30 attack damage… this item is great on Shyvana because it gives her everything she needs to take down enemies. As we will be building off tank the whole game, our next item is going to be Dead Mans Plate. This item is good as it has armor and health- can you see the pattern here? Your final two items are Sterak’s Gage and Guardians Angel.

This build may seem strange, and well, it is. This build will allow her to deal damage, whilst also being tanky. You’re not going to one shot the carries, instead you’re to be the frontline.

VS

Darius

Hard

This is a hard lane because of his passive. Try not to take to much agro from him and do not let him hit you for free.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

You can win this lane very easily because he is a tank. Try to fight him early, and remember to use your abilities when exchanging in fights. The enemy is melee too, so try to abuse this. Do not take free harass from his Q.

VS

Galio

Medium

You can win this lane because he is a tank. Try to fight him early, and remember to use your abilities when exchanging in fights. The enemy is melee too, so try to abuse this.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

Do not let him poke you, and try to dodge his barrels. Focus on farming and denying him Cs when possible. Make sure to use your W in trades as he is melee too.

VS

Garen

Easy

You can win this lane very easily because he is a tank. Try to fight him early, and remember to use your abilities when exchanging in fights. The enemy is melee too, so try to abuse this.

VS

Gragas

Easy

You can win this lane very easily because he is a tank. Try to fight him early, and remember to use your abilities when exchanging in fights. The enemy is melee too, so try to abuse this.

VS

Kayle

Hard

Do not let them poke you for free and do not let her harass you. In this matchup you may have to sacrifice CS for Experience especially in the early levels. Make sure to hit level 2 first Beware of her ultimate and her sustain. This lane is hard because of the sustain, range and her ultimate. Just farm up and use your Teleport on side lanes.

VS

Malphite

Easy

This is a good matchup for you because Malphite cannot trade back. You normally do well against tanks because you’re a fighter/tank too. I would recommend trying to poke them when possible and make sure to abuse your early game damage. This champion is melee so try to abuse that when going for farm. Your W is an AOE damage ability- use that to your advantage when trading with them.

VS

Maokai

Easy

You can win this lane very easily because he is a tank. Try to fight him early, and remember to use your abilities when exchanging in fights. The enemy is melee too, so try to abuse this. Beware of his healing, and his sapling damage.

VS

Nasus

Medium

You can win this lane very easily because he is a tank. Try to fight him early, and remember to use your abilities when exchanging in fights. The enemy is melee too, so try to abuse this.Do not let him farm for free, and beware of his slow.

VS

Nautilus

Easy

You can win this lane very easily because he is a tank. Try to fight him early, and remember to use your abilities when exchanging in fights. The enemy is melee too, so try to abuse this. His CC is frustrating to play against, but you should be able to win. Go for trades when his shields are not up.

VS

Pantheon

Hard

Take corrupting potion and play passive. You wont be able to win, so just farm up.

VS

Poppy

Easy

You can win this lane very easily because he is a tank. Try to fight him early, and remember to use your abilities when exchanging in fights. The enemy is melee too, so try to abuse this. Her W can cancel your ultimate, so beware of that. Try to stand away from walls because she can pin you against them.

VS

Quinn

Hard

Do not let them poke you for free and do not let her harass you. In this matchup you may have to sacrifice CS for Experience especially in the early levels. Make sure to hit level 2 first and do not lose it. If she gets the level 2 advantage them you’ve basically sacrificed your early game. When she uses her blind back off and play safe. After she has used it, wait for the Cooldown and then you can play more aggressive. This is a hard matchup because of the range advantage.

VS

Riven

Medium

Riven is much stronger than Shyvana, especially early. However you can win this lane by going for fights against her early. Beware of her passive, and try to get her to miss her abilities by dodging them. I would recommend not fighting unless she has wasted her E. This is a frustrating lane because Riven is a Riven… Let her outplay herself and try to push your advantage.

VS

Shen

Medium

This lane can go either way. Shen is really good in trades because of his W and his Taunt. In this lane, you want to go for early trades- especially level 2 and 3 so you should try and hit these levels before him. This champion is melee so try and abuse that when going for farm/ trading with him.

VS

Swain

Medium

In this matchup, you will need to fight early, but do not go for extended trades. You should hit level 2 first and go for a full trade. If he hits level 2 first, then you will need to sacrifice minions for experience. Because he is ranged, you may need to sacrifice CS for Experience- especially when he hits 6. I would suggest building magic resist early. Beware of his sustain and surprisingly burst damage from his Q and ultimate.

VS

Vladimir

Early Game Back to Top

In the early game you need to focus on farming and gaining a farm advantage. You want to farm and keep trying to fight when possible. In the very early levels you are rather squishy and depending on who you’re against you may have an easy or hard time. You want to get level 2 first, and level 3 too. I recommend trying to poke when possible. If you’re against a champion who is melee then this will be easier- you can trade when they go to auto minions. If they are ranged, you will have to sacrifice some CS for experience. In the early game, you’re not very strong because you do not do much. I recommend just farming and trying to become strong when you get your items. In melee matchups, you do rather well because of your auto attack resetting Q, your AOE W and your poke ability. When going for trades, you need to keep in mind a few things. Such as minion wave management, and survivability. If you know you can out trade them, then the trade should be easier for you- also, make sure you know where the enemy is.

Mid/Late Game Back to Top

In the Mid game, you want to have a good CS lead and hopefully have some kills. Your main job is to focus on split pushing and trying to help your team. Shyvana can split push because she is a fighter/ off tank champion. Her ability to escape (thanks to her W and ultimate) is rather frustrating and you can use this to your advantage. When split pushing make sure that your team has wards placed so you know if the enemy is coming for you, this will also allow you to Teleport and help them if need be.  When split pushing, make sure not to go to deep as you will get caught out, use wards and trinkets to help you. Remember to split push efficiently and not stupidly. In the ending part of the game you main job is to catch people, split push and protect your carries with your ultimate. Remember, you’re the frontline not the backline. Make sure to stand in front of your carries but be prepared to fall back and peel them if they are being jumped on.

Tips and Tricks Back to Top

Shyvana has been around and has seen her fair share of play in recent months, but mostly in the Jungle. It’s time to go back old school and play her toplane! Shyvana is a strong top laner in certain matchups and can completely snowball lanes. While she is not a meta pick, she is still good.

Tips and Tricks:

You can use your ultimate offensively or defensively.

Your Q is an auto attack reset, use this to your advantage by Autoing then using your Q followed by another auto.

Shyvana is very versatile and you can change up your ability levelling depending on what you need. For guide sake, I have put the standard W max first as this is currently the best option for her with top lane being dominated by melee champions.

You can use your W as a speed boost to get yourself out of sticky situations.

Always purchase ward first before any other items. This will make your second ward up quicker which can prevent an early level 3 gank by the enemy. This will also give your team knowledge of the enemy if they show.

Keep an eye on the map and use your TP to help your other laners out.

Combos:

AA+Q+AA: Standard early game trading combo. Remember always AA then Q and AA again to deal extra damage. The Q is an Auto attack reset.

W+AA+Q+AA: Another combo when trading. If you’re against a melee champion this will be one of the main combos.

E+AA+Q+AA: Combo with your E. The Added damage from your E will really help in trading

W+E+AA+Q+AA: Full example combo. Good when going for full trades in lane (Pre 6/no ultimate)
