W costs too much mana early, and is weak in lane.

Core Items

Situational Items

You allways wanna have 2 damage Items (usually 3116.png and 3151.png), one armor Item (3742.png3143.png or 3075.png), one magic resist Item (3102.png)  and one manareg one (3048.png or 3165.png). Only start with 3027.png if you have 1,2k at your first back, otherwise go with double 1056.png.

VS

Aatrox

Easy

Aatrox is only dangerous with ganks. Don't trade him early, freeze lane early, towerfling him = GG. You can can counter his jump btw with fling (e).
Dont actively trade him unless you're really ahead for some reason. He will allways outsustain you and be able to hunt you down. Farming against him is easy peasy.

VS

Akali

Medium

you can't proxy against her because of her ult.  Do the same you do against allmost every melee early. Let her push and towerfling her. Generelly remember to get a pink or evolved red trinket against her. Dont mind missing some cs early to let her push, her q Spam is pretty strong.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

easy lane, easy game

VS

Darius

Medium

Darius is a Lane-bully who will outtrade you in lane. The good thing is, he is melee. As with any melee you can freeze early and try a turret fling once he goes for creeps near your turret. Asking for ganks is also effective, since he has no gapclosers.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Medium

Based on the ability kits, this lane is easy, but since mundo is simply the strongest champion in the game right now I rates it medium. Otherwise this matchup is
simply a farm-lane. Avoid his cleavers and do the standard early LvL-lanefreezing because he's melee. 3009_32.png , 3151.png and 3165_32.png work well against Mundo btw.

VS

Ekko

Hard

Ekko is one of these champions who will punish aswell as freezing. However he's not as evil as Teemo and Nidalee

VS

Fiora

Hard

Not much to say, other than this is a really hard lane if you're not experienced on the champiom. Try baiting outfiorariposte.png and run from her when she ults you.

VS

Gangplank

Easy

Pretty easy to dodge barrels with ms quints. Watch out for hidden barrels in brushes. It is allmost impossible to lose this lane or to not kill gp all the time from lvl 6 on.

VS

Garen

Medium

Garen is a weird champion, really.. However he will usually activate q and go for a chase in lane. Make sure to cast your q before he can silence you.

VS

Gnar

Medium

He's got some harass but farming againt him isn't too difficult. Avoid fighting supergnar, and flame your jungler when he ganks fom behind.

VS

Hecarim

Easy

relatively easy to do the standard melee-freeze lane

VS

Heimerdinger

Hard

Ask for ganks. Once you've reached 6 you can just push out your lane to get cs and then back, however u usually need a gank or two early. Don't be afraid to use ult to farm two waves. Proxy as early as possible. If he buys 3060.png you're screwed my friend :).

VS

Irelia

Medium

If she manages to keep her q off cooldown, towerflings won't do as much. (she'll still eat one hit tho, and your fling.png has a lower cooldown than herireliagatotsu.png). Run from her when her w is active to avoid the true damage. The good thing is you've got one of the few cc spells which aren't useless against her tenacity.

VS

Jarvan IV

Hard

Jarvan belongs to the first group of champions (laning notes), who will poke you under your turret. So whenever his q is on cooldown push him in. When he ults you, you can fling him out of jarvanivcataclysm.png.

VS

Jax

Hard

Flame firstpick for not banning Jax

VS

Jayce

Medium

I gave it a "medium" because if the jayce is bad you're gonna rek him, if he's good he's gonna let you suffer. Very skilldependent.

VS

Kayle

Medium

Movementspeedbuff, slow, kiting this champ is everything singed hates. Force her to push the wave into your turret and farm there. Do that by forcing her e whenever you can. Since she can't turn it off she'll have to lasthit with e being active which means that she'll automatically push. Ganks do a lot against her. Killing her post level 6 will be easy.

VS

Kennen

Medium

Stay behind minions, don't eat too many Autos and bait his e before he gets ganked. get hp early (giants belt for rylais usually + the hp from dorans rings)

VS

Nasus

Medium

Problem: You can't really denie his stacking. However you can farm freely and try to compensate nasus damage later.

VS

Nidalee

Hard

DODGE, LEAVE, OR PRETEND TO HAVE LAGGS! If you wanna know what a colonoscopy feels like, play this matchup. Otherwise don't pick singed into nidalee.
Edit: Nidalee got nerfed a little, no one plays her top anymore.

VS

Quinn

Hard

Quinn has a lot of harass in lane, and an ult that allows her to chase or escape you. Freeze early and spam e-click on her and right-click away from her once you're close to your turret. If she uses her jump and you allready comanded singed to fling her, the jump will be interrupted and the fling goes through. So whenever you wanna start trading her later make sure to chase her with e-command. This mechanic is really strong, I remember destryoing a quinn-only-main once. She went 1/11. Great Game.

VS

Rengar

Medium

Beware his lvl 2 all in. He'll usually push, get ferocity stacks, sit in brush while the 7th creep dies so you don't see him getting level 2 and all in you. Count his creeps aswell as yours. His ult cooldown resently got higher so he is forced to stay in lane for longer periods of time. that's good. Let him push, or push him down to a turret and he loses his main damage source (brushes).

VS

Riven

Medium

as with every Rivenmatchup, very skilldependent. Her lvl 6 is stronger than yours assuming you are even in lane, you outscale her pretty fast after that tho, and she will have to look for other targets.

VS

Ryze

Hard

A Lanebully who scales into lategame. However he cant do much at lvl1. Push the first wave as hard as you can, and simply ignore him, he can't kill you that easy at level 1. this is your only possibility to get farmed. Once you're low go back and tp back to lane. (you don't have to tp if he freezes. When you're 6 start proxafarming and use your ult or ghost to escape, or stay in lane and use your ult to scare him for a second and take as much cs as possible before you're low. However if you proxy tell your team to take objectives when the enemy jungler or midlaner show top to catch you. (Usually Mid turret or drake) If you managed to stay even untill lvl 8/9 you can even start trading him.

VS

Singed

Easy

Grow some balls and start playing ranked

VS

Teemo

Medium

Laning is hell against this champ. The only reason I gave this matchup a "medium" is that teemo is pretty useless anywhere else than in lane. If you stay even you can take him down at lvl 8 with w or start proxyfarming.

VS

Vladimir

Easy

I would go as far as to say singed counteres vladimir. you can play agressive all the time basically and you will outtrade him at every level. Really easy one.

Laning Back to Top

I'll make this really quick and general, since there are a lot of different playstyles. So here's mine:

There are two types of matchups when you play Singed Toplane: enemy Champions that can poke you under your turret and those who can not.

The first group contains basically every ranged champion plus Pantheon, Kayle etc. Push them in early as hard as you can and dont bother using your 2033.png for that. It is extremely important, that you do that from level 1 on, otherwise they will be able to kill you. After 3, maximum 4 waves you should have enough gold for your first 1056.png , so go back, buy that and get another 3 potions of 2033.png. Keep doing that till level 6. (Exceptions: Teemo and AD Nidalee - read my matchupnotes for that)

The second group contains most melee champions. Try to let them push from level 1 on and and if they have aoe damage spells, bait them out so they push towards you. Freeze infront of your turret, without it actually hitting the minions. Go for turret fling.png, and if they dont fall for that just zone them by contantly puttig the fling pressure on them. However you'll be surprised how many kills you will do early just by flinging someone into your turret.

Once you hit level 6 you can proxy, no matter the matchup (for the most part), as long as you know where the enemy midlaner is.

Generally when trying any new champion play rather agressive than passive, so you learn faster.
