Summoner Spells Back to Top

Teleport and flash are standard. I find that teleport is really useful for being able to buy early on and survive in lane, but exhaust is a viable option if that's your preference. I will eventually go more in-depth about why teleport is important as I update this guide.

Masteries Back to Top

This is pretty much the best page. Unfortunately, none of the keystones are spectacular for Sion, but it makes the most sense to put 18 points in the Resolve tree. If you would like more offense, 12/0/18 is viable.

(P) Glory in Death: Essentially, this is your second chance to put out some pretty hefty damage in team fights. I find that it isn't extremely useful late game because you will just fall victim to CC and AOE damage, but it can help you even out some otherwise disadvantageous trades.

sionq.png
(Q) Decimating Smash: This is the last ability you max for mid lane because it does physical damage and synergizes the least with the poke play style we're going for. It can be kinda of tricky to execute correctly, but if you land a good E before using it, you will set up a pretty devastating combo.

sionw.png
(W) Soul Furnace: This ability is so versatile and really what makes Sion mid possible. Use it before going in for trades, or in expectation of poke. Because of the fact that it serves defensively as a shield, and offensively as a high damage burst ability, I find that maxing it first is most effective. Additionally, it provides health for every unit you kill.

sione.png
(E) Roar of the Slayer: In addition to providing a lot of poke and a strong slow to chain with your Q, it provides armor pen. In order to make it most effective, try kicking low-health minions into the enemy for wave-clear and poke. Max this second.

(R) Unstoppable Onslaught: This ability becomes more useful as the game gets longer and the cooldown gets lower. For the early game, it's very effective for setting up ganks and roaming, but can be harder to execute without the CC of your team. In the early game, use it carefully because of its high cooldown. In the late game, use it generously because it has an extremely low cooldown. The more you play with this ult, the more you will be comfortable with it.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

This is pretty standard in most matchups. If you are against another melee/AD like Yasuo then a Doran's Shield might be better.
The first time you back, you should always be able to buy a second Doran's Ring, a rejuve bead, and a control ward.
If you have some extra gold when you back, or back again early on, pick up boots and relevant resistance.

Core Items

This is your first item 99% of games. It can help you pressure your lane in opportune situations, and it can cover your lane when you roam. Additionally, the stats are amazing on Sion and synergize with the rune page you will use.
I highly recommend lucidity boots because you will not be building CDR until late game. They also lower your summoner spell cooldowns. Swiftness boots can be viable if you are in a lane where you have to dodge many skillshots or you are roaming very often.
After your ZZ'Rot and upgraded boots, pick up a Bami's Cinder before building Guardian Angel. Then upgrade it into a Sunfire Cape.

Situational Items

Here are some utility options to consider for late game.

VS

Orianna

Medium

This is basically a skill matchup. Early game, her skills can be annoying to deal with, but if you don't get behind you will be able to out-tank her damage.
