Summoner Spells Back to Top

Go with whatever your typical ADC spells. I typically run heal + flash because of the speed burst.

R > Q > E > W

Max Q first. This is your bread and butter with the Soraka rework. At early levels, it will give you crazy burst.  In mid-to-late game, it will you the opportunity to slow your enemies, which allows for both chasing and kiting.

E is the next logical choice to level up, because it lets you silence opponents. Works well when dueling mages and other bursty champions.

W will be barely useful, although it can still make the difference between life and death when your teammate has only a sliver of health.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

Basic core. Current meta: 1. Rush IE first. Get a BF or Pickaxe first back, then boots, then complete your IE. 2. Complete your berserkers greaves. 3. Then get PD for your attack speed and critical strike chance. 4. Next, get LW or BT, depending on the tankiness of the enemy team. 5. Last item usually GA for an ADC.
This is good if you want to go a little hybrid with Soraka. Build like JAX, then go Guinsoo and Lich Bane.

Situational Items

Useful for turbofarming and splitpushing, but usually not worth.
    If you want more utility

VS

Caitlyn

Medium

Caitlyns range makes her difficult to lane this again.

VS

Corki

Easy

Corki's burst comes from his abilities, and your E will silence a lot of that. Also, his escape still doesn't escape bananas, so rely on that!

VS

Graves

Easy

Graves is very all-in, and your silence helps prevent him from finishing his E -> Q combo. He's also very easy to kite.

VS

Jinx

Medium

Her rockets hurt, but if you can avoid her skillshots and chompers the lane won't be so bad. Don't try to duel her mid-to-late game without all of your abilities, or with a friend.

VS

Quinn

Hard

Quinn's blind can make it difficult to trade with her, and she can do a lot of damage to you upfront without needing abilities. Be weary when dueling her and try to bait our her abilities.

VS

Urgot

Easy

Easy lane, because even if he lands his status effect spell on you, you can silence him and trade with him a good few seconds. Throw your E down in front of him, because if he tries to chase he'll be silenced much longer.

VS

Varus

Hard

Watch for his Q and E. Don't get 3 stacks on you or else you will be bursted down way too fast. Only trade with him when he's used his E and Q recently, or when you have a buddy.

Disclaimer Back to Top

This is obviously not a guide that adheres to the meta. It's there for provide a fun alternative for an ADC, which in many cases is quite viable.

The keys to maintaining ADC Soraka's viability are:

  1. Try to keep the game short. The longer the game goes on, the more your traditional meta champions scale with their inherent abilities. It will become harder to duel your ADC opponent because of this (though not imposible).
  2. Rely on help.  ADC Soraka starts off very strong, but to keep her going through the mid and late game you will need the support of your team.  This really holds true for any ADC, but Soraka can be very vulnerable when solo if some of her spells are down.
  3. During the late game, your strategy will be to provide an initial burst of damage, then run to the back and attack from the perimeter of the fight, only coming back in when it's safe to burn more spells.
  4. Soraka does not have a natural escape, but kiting can be pretty easy given the right combo of spells and items.

Fighting Style Back to Top

Early Game

Keep in mind that Soraka's AA is very slow.  It's not her attack speed, but rather the speed at which the banana reaches the target. It may take you a few seconds to get used to her banana speed, but soon you get into a nice rhythm.

You will do a lot of damage. Your attack damage will probably be higher than several of your opponent ADCs. Make sure to punish them in lane. Your range isn't long, but provided you're not in Diamond the mechanics will not be so rigid.

The idea combo is: Q -> E -> AA -> Q

Every time Soraka lands her Q, she gets health back in return.  This proves to be very powerful in 1v1ing champions.  The E also gives you the drop on your opponent by silencing them. It can even let you 1v1 some mid champs.

Towards the end of this phase is when you decide whether or not you want to go the traditional ADC core build (IE), or the Triforce build.  Triforce will give you better dueling, but weaker lane clear.

Mid Game

Soraka can do just fine mid-game, but it's not as strong as her early game.  If you managed to pick up a BF sword on her first back, life will be a lot easier for you during this phase.   If you decided to go triforce, play a bit more from a distance during team fights.

Late Game

If you are full build, it's very important to coordinate your attacks well with your team during team fights, because late game ADC Soraka is where the non-meta honeymoon starts to break down (like many other non-meta builds).  Unless you've completely shut down your rival ADC, you will slowly lose the ability to trade in outright 1v1s.

When solo, you will need to start relying more on the element of surprise, and carefully timing your E so that you can outburst/outlifesteal your enemy.

Fun Supports and Pairings Back to Top

Support Jinx (AP)

This is actually a feint, but can be effective if played correctly.  If your opposing team doesn't read too much into the lolnexus info, they will assume that Jinx is the ADC and Soraka is the support. They might get killed by Soraka the first few times and chalk it up to the support accidentally taking the kill. It's pretty funny watching them take 10-15 minutes to figure out which champ is the actual ADC.  Meanwhile, Jinx's E (chompers) will make a great utility spell and deal quite unusually high damage.

Support Kog'maw (AP)

Like Support Jinx, this is more of a kill lane option.  Just build and play him like AP Kog, except with wards and such.

Lee Sin

Put a relic shield on him and go to town. You will be keeping them zoned out so hard it's not even funny.
