Ignite creates a huge threat from Tahm when you get 3 stacks on a champion not only do they have to worry about being eaten and thrown into your team, but also ignited damaged more and having healing reduced.

Flash is pretty standard, Tahm can flash with enemies or allies in his stomach, to reposition to drop them off, even over walls. You can also buffer Q tahmkenchq.png then Flash 4.png

Masteries Back to Top

  • Fury 5/5 - Tahm benefits greatly from Attack Speed, running attack speed in runes takes away from defensive stats
  • Fresh Blood 1/1 - When Tahm goes for trades it gives him extra damage to make even a bad 1 Auto Attack trade slightly better, and makes good trades even stronger.
  • Natural Talent 5/5 - Extra AP and AD, not hugely impactful, but slightly more damage to break through heals and shields.
  • Battle Trance 1/1 - Besides Q tahmkenchq.png poke, when Tahm start’s to do damage it doesn’t all happen at once, so he has the time to build up Battle Trance % Damage bonus.

  • Recovery 5/5 - Free health regen, helps against the most standard double ranged bot lanes.
  • Tough Skin 1/1 - Again you will be taking damage most likely from 2 ranged champions in the bot lane. This small damage adds up over time.
  • Veteran’s Scars 5/5 - Tahm benefits in Damage and Tankiness from bonus health, Runic Armor is very good on Tahm, but not as support when he doesn’t get as much health or tank items.
  • Fearless 1/1 - Lets you take less damage, simple as that.
  • Legendary Guardian 5/5 - Bonus Armor and Magic Resist for every nearby champion, one of Tahm’s difficulties as support is his tankiness since he doesn’t get to buy tank items, this gives him some of the stats without having to buy any items.
  • Stoneborn Pact 1/1 - Bonus % health is VERY good from Tahm, and any time you SLOW or CC and enemy you mark them and if an Ally auto attacks them, they will heal based on your level and health.

Put 3 points in Q tahmkenchq.png then max W tahmkenchw.png

tahmkenchpassive.png PASSIVE

Tahm’s basic attacks and damaging abilities apply Acquired Taste stacks dealing damage based on Tahm’s Max Health

tahmkenchq.png  Tongue Lash

Tahm Launches his tongue in a target direction, slowing enemies hit
If enemies his have 3 stacks of Aquired Taste then landing Tongue Lash will stun

tahmkenchw.png Devour

Cast on Ally:
Tahm Swallows an ally making them untargetable and gains bonus movement speed when walking towards enemies

Cast on Enemy’s
Enemies with 3 Stacks of Aquired tase on them can be Devoured making them untargetable and Tahm can move a small distance with them, and choose where to spit them out, also dealing a large amount of damage.

Cast on Minion / Monster

Tahm sucks them up then spits them out in a target direction shooting them away.

tahmkenche.png Thick Skin

When Tahm takes damage a % of his health is converted to Grey Health he can activate this ability to convert the Grey health to a temporary shield, if you don’t do this you will be healed for the amount of grey health left.

tahmkenchnewr.png Abyssal Voyage

Tahm and an ally can teleport to a target location after a brief delay

During the laning phase it's very important that you properly damage the enemy that you are attacking since a failed all in waste a lot of time.

Applying the stacks of passive is the main reason to combo properly so here are some examples of how to mechanically preform on Tahm

Auto Attack dot-pattern.png tahmkenchq.png dot-pattern.png Auto Attack dot-pattern.png tahmkenchw.png dot-pattern.png Wait for Q tahmkenchq.png cooldown dot-pattern.png spit out near ally dot-pattern.png Auto Attack dot-pattern.png tahmkenchq.png

Stacking up the passive once with an auto, 2nd with a Q , and 3rd with another auto attack, then you can consume the enemy champion.

2303.png Frees up an item slot, gives 4 wards per recall, and Health & CDR
3109.png Bind to 1 ally you absorb damage for them, and when they damage enemies it heals you. You don't have to only bind to your ADC, can work fine on Mid or carry top laners.
3190.png Build path into Aegis is nice because it gives you Armor and Magic Resist, Locket when activated gives everyone around you a Shield based on your Max health, the shield decays quickly so it has to be timed well.
3083.png  After Knight's Vow and Locket, building into just a ton of health makes Tahm tankier and the Locket shield bigger.
3193.png More tank stats, makes locket shield huge if you get full active effect off by using it when around 3 or more enemy champions, then using Locket's active.

Matchups Back to Top

Click on a champion below to see the author's notes on that particular matchup.

  • Alistar
  • Bard
  • Janna
  • Lulu
  • Morgana
  • Twitch
  • Xayah

Alistar can move you with headbutt.png so if you have any champion in your belly he can punt you forward or backwards.

It's also hard to position correctly around Alistar's headbutt.pngpulverize.png combo to be able to eat an ally as it's coming.

  • Bard has lots of damage and can easily poke you out in lane with auto attacks and Q bardq.png
  • Don't stand next to your carry in a position in which he could stun them off you with bardq.png
  • If you are Bard ULTed bardr.png with someone in your belly they will be spit out during the duration.

You can basically never get on janna unless she mispositions terribly , wait for her to do something stupid like try an auto attack you or your carry and walk up and Auto > Q > Auto > W, even if she howlinggale.png to disengage you still attack her mana which is better than nothing.

  • Tahm loses this lane, the lulu does a lot of damage and shields your Q tahmkenchq.png poke.
  • It's best if you don't try to win this lane, and instead focus and gaining gold for yourself with 3302.png & 3097.png
  • You should expect to lose your tower, don't try and fight it and focus on Mid - Late game.

Any time you build up all 3 passive stacks tahmkenchpassive.png expect Morgana to Black Shield blackshield.png that target, don't use abilities on the black shield, you won't break it.

Eat targets Morgana hits with darkbindingmissile.png
Morgana can easily darkbindingmissile.png one champion if you ULT tahmkenchnewr.png onto her

Twitch has a very long range with his ULT twitchfullautomatic.png and tahm doesn't have any good ways of controlling him during team fights.

Tahm works well when playing with a Xayah, enemies have very little options to engage on her when she has tahmkenchw.png & xayahr.png

Against Xayah Tahm can eat rooted targets

Early Game Back to Top

Level 1 invade with Tahm is OK, find targets off guard you can easily chase them down with Q tahmkenchq.pngspam and build up tahmkenchpassive.png stacks

During the landing phase’s early levels you should try to poke with Q tahmkenchq.png until level 3 or 4, if you go for a big trade, or take a lot of damage before then, than it is very detrimental for kill potential later in the landing phase, if you don’t get a solid all in where the enemy has to blow sums or dies than other meta ranged supports will give you no options to trade or fight during after first recall.

Against poke shield champions, try to land Qs tahmkenchq.png when their shields are down, or else you trade your Q tahmkenchq.png mana cost for their shield mana cost, and shielding champions will always have higher mana regen. Against healing and shielding supports, it's better to not poke the enemy ADC, but try to poke the enemy Support and punish them with an all in when they misposition.

You should be trying to update yourself on what is going on in your lane at all times to see if there is an opportunity to punish the enemy with poke, positioning.

Mid Game Back to Top

Mid game generally means when the first tower goes down, but it can also be when champions start moving out of their lane and into other lanes to gank. Once Tahm is level 6 you can attempt to gank other lanes with your ULT tahmkenchnewr.png you can also transport with champion with you, probably your jungler, you can also gank your own lane with this ULT by being in the fog of war until the enemy bot lane pushes up, then ULT behind them. Most enemies will be caught off guard not considering Tahm’s ULT

With Tahm an extended laning phase can be very beneficial, as long as your tower stays up, if the enemy has taking the bot lane tower it is up to roam around the map and provide vision and ganks / safety with tahmkenchw.png for your team.

If you happen to be winning / getting a lot of gold, and get an early 3109.png you should try to bait the enemies into fights in which  they try to dive your carry, and then just tahmkenchw.png them and run down the enemies.

If you team is behind any aggressive play you make such as ULTing in with another player has to be very calculated. Or else the game will pretty much be over if the play fails.

Late Game Back to Top

Tahm's Late game is very unfair for the enemy team, you have constant fog of war pressure with ULT tahmkenchnewr.png and during team fights being able to make a carry untargetable easily stops and engage or burst onto them, but you have to eat them in time. You should also have multiple completed items such as 3109.png and 3190.png obviously the more items you have late game the better, but you have to get used to how tanky you are relative to the enemy based on the items you have, this comes with experience, but unless you are significantly far ahead it's best to try and not walk into 5 enemy champions thinking you can tank them all, this is the biggest problem of low elo supports I see, you have to play around your utility abilities will idling behind your carries.

Pros and Cons Back to Top

  • Unique safety mechanic of tahmkenchw.png making carries untargetable
  • Transport allies across the map or for ganks with tahmkenchnewr.png
  • Very oppressive when Tahm gets a lead

  • Generally Bad Laning phase
  • Passive play style when behind, that less skilled players won’t be able to pull off, simply running into 5 champions when behind isn’t correct
  • More creative and harder to understand playstyle when first learning.

Warding Back to Top

Warding with the 3340.png Warding Trinket

At the start of every game, your only options for warding before you get 2049.png Sightstone, is to use the 3340.png Warding Trinket.

The 3340.png Warding Trinket only gives you a 60 Second ward, that gives you a very small range of vision compared to a 2049.pngSightstone's Vison Ward.

The best way to make use of the Warding Trinket during the early laning phase, is to place it before the enemy jungler shows up, this will change every game depending on the enemy jungler, generally here are some good spots to trinket

Trinkets Outlined in Blue are for when you are on Blue Side
Trinkets Outlined in Red, hey you guessed it, are for when you are on Red Side.
Trinkets Outlined with both, work well on either side.

If you have full control over a lane, placing a trinket in the bot lane bushes isn't terrible as long as you play around the possibility of Gank timing windows properly.

3340.png / 3341.png
Once you get Sightstone, you generally want to switch to Sweeper, but you can make use of the trinket wards in a very extended laning phase, but after say 20 minutes, you will most likely NEED to switch to sweeper or you will be walking through enemy wards the entire game.

So when you get Sightstone the ENTIRE game changes. There are ways you SHOULD use, and ways you CAN use it.

Where to place a Sightstone Ward, has a LOT of  factors that go into why or when you should place a ward, hopefully this makes it simpler:

When To place a Ward

  • If you know the enemy is likely to come from an area in 1-2 minutes.
  • If the enemy has the ability to jump over walls, ward over the wall they would come from ex (9.png64.png)
  • So you can spot enemy champions moving from one lane to another in the fog of war.

When not to place a ward

  • You are near a bush and there isn't a ward in it
  • When you are in a lane and afraid that someone is in that bush you are going to ward
  • When you already have vision of the target you are try to ward against

Mid - Late Game Warding

  1. Do you have advantage and 2-3 champions with you > get a ward in their jungle
  2. Is the game even / you have no ally champions to assist with deep warding > Ward river / enterences to your jungle
  3. Are you behind / multiple towers have fallen > Ward your Jungle.

Here are all easy Warding spots.

Mid - Late game, you shouldn't be going on solo missions into the enemies side of the jungle to get a useless deep ward, only to find 5 champions and a grey screen. Any time you want to get a ward on the enemies side of the map, ping your laners / jungler to assist you with walking into the enemy jungle, who knows you might find a solo member of the enemy team instead and be able to pick up an easy kill.

Teamfighting Back to Top

Team fighting isn't how most fights play out for normal champions. Tahm is very good at peeling ( Protecting) and counter attacking. It's not like most tank supports where you dump all your abilities on the enemy champions and watch. If you try to do this and simply walk at the entire enemy team while casting Q they will kill you very quickly.

So during fights you should try to stay behind your carry and eat them tahmkenchw.png when ever an enemy threat jumps on them, or before they take massive damage. After you do this you have the option to reposition them deeper into the fight, or run away with them in your belly. After you eat an ally the cooldown for W will probably be down for the rest of the fight, so it's fine to try an attack enemies, but try to focus 1 so you can build up passive tahmkenchpassive.png stacks on them and stun them with tahmkenchq.png

If you have any active items (3190.png3401.png3107.png) make sure to use them during the fight, don't waste time thinking about the most opportune time to use the active items, just use them and see the result, any small amount of time you extend a carries life during a fight is very very valuable.
