Summoner Spells Back to Top

1. Barrier 21.png

 - Great summoner spell. I like taking this in tougher, burst-y match-ups like vs. 7.png 55.png 268.png 43.png 238.png Barrier got a small buff a few patches ago, and I really like how it scales into late game now.

2. Ignite 14.png

  - Solid summoner spell. Gives great kill potential in lane, and can be used to help secure kills later. Think about taking ignite in match-ups like vs. 13.png 4.png 31.png 74.png 115.png  I like taking Ignite when I'm feeling like going balls deep, and have a team/jungler that can back me up and make plays.

3. Teleport 12.png

 - This is my 'go to' spell. Gives great map pressure alongside your ultimate. The ability to teleport behind enemy lines and use your ult to block off any near escape routes, is awesome. If you don't like taking 21.png in tough match-ups, take 12.png. This summoner spell is also good to take if your top laner is not going to have teleport, and allows cross map pressure.

4. Flash 4.png

 - This is a given. Taliyah is a high damage, kiting mage, and needs flash to escape or secure kills. Take this in 100% of your match-ups.

Masteries Back to Top

I really, really, like Thunderlord's Decree. Gives great early game burst, especially with your Q. I have tried Deathfire Touch and even Storm Raider's Surge, but nothing seems to have the same synergy and effect as Thunderlord's Decree. I also suggest to take Precision over Intelligence in this tank meta, but this is a personal choice.

Max order is R>Q>E>W
If you want to wave clear, push, and roam, max E first.

If you are getting ganked a lot, max W second.

EDIT: Taliyah's W is now cast like a Rumble Ultimate or Viktor E.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    Standard for Mages
First back. Grab another Dorans, boots, and sell potions to get the refillable one. Trust me, it'll be worth its weight in gold.
This is a preference. Most of the time, I will get CDR boots, then sell them later for Sorcerer's Shoes.
Get this at about 15 minutes
First item unless the other team has double or triple AP.
Fantastic first item if you plan to sit back and farm..
Great start against burst mage or if their jungler is ap too.

Core Items

Taliyah synergizes so well with the CDR, health, mana, and the dash so there's no reason not to get it.
Grab this if you are against two or more AP champs
Grab this if you are against an AD heavy team (or against Zed)
Fantastic item for scaling. If you know you're going to have to kite a lot, this item is great
Lots of health and pen. Get this if you don't have much front line and you need to kite more.
ALWAYS get this item, and get it after your first item. The slow helps Taliyah kite and lock down targets.
Penetration for dayz babayyy. Get this third if you're even or ahead from lane
I love this item. The movement speed is fantastic and gives incredible burst
This is a full build example. Super expensive, but if you land your combos, your damage is incredible.
Another viable build. Plenty of health and pen for kiting and survivability.
Super health taliyah. Ive had to do this once of twice, mainly because the opposing team was super tank and I needed to stay alive

Situational Items

Someone on the other team has a death wish cuz they been bm-ing you all game
Grab this if you're really ahead and want to snowball even harder.
    If youre desperate
Not really a fan, but if you need 10% CDR, go for it. Good if you fall behind and need gold to catch up, but not recommended.
    Balls deep
This is not necessary. you have no heal/shield, and if you need more MR, should've taken 9 MR runes
Do you want your team to report you for trolling?
If you got Rod of Ages, don't get this item. Plus, if you're consistently out of mana, you shouldn't be spamming abilities so much.

VS

Ahri

Medium

Not a super hard match up, but be careful post 6 bc ahri loves to roam. Always ping, even if you think she's just going to get blue.  Taliyah can follow really easily with her ult and either block off the enemy team from running away or keep ahri from getting too close.

VS

Akali

Medium

This can go either way. Pre 6, you have an advantage but post 6 you have to have quick fingers, cuz she'll be coming in hot. Use your E when she uses her shroud in lane, and be careful mid to late game, cuz she can mess you up.

VS

Anivia

Medium

Be aggressive pre 6 and cautious post 6. Anivia has great burst with few items. try to harass and poke from afar then roam and secure objectives.

VS

Annie

Easy

It's a battle of the bursts. You have more power levels 3-5, but at 6 she's stronger in an all in. Try to kite and keep worked ground available for skirmishes and poke. Early it's not a bad idea to rush level 2 and push her under tower, because Annie doesn't farm too well under tower.

VS

Aurelion Sol

Medium

This match up can be tricky. His aurelionsolW.png W can zone well and can get you in trouble, so be cautious. Any time youre looking to trade, he can stay behind creeps and poke with his W so call for a gank and let him push in.

VS

Azir

Hard

Azir is a tougher match-up. Be wary of his early levels, and call for a gank from your jungler if you get too far behind/if he pushes to tower. Taliyah has great synergy with a lot of juglers with her W.

VS

Brand

Medium

Brand is pretty immobile, especially when he's using his abilities, so thats good for your W-E combo. On the other side of that coin, he has great burst potential and can ruin a gank from your jungler. Not a bad idea to get Abyssal

VS

Cassiopeia

Medium

Tricky lane. Cass has really reliable damage over time, and you have burst that you skirt in and out with. Be smart and ask for a gank. Constantly ward.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

Cho is a match-up you should win early, then pressure other lanes. Look to shove hard after level 6 and roam, because cho can't stop you from pushing or follow.

VS

Diana

Medium

This match-up depends mostly on the skill of the Diana. Pre level 6, try to poke from a distance and proc Thunderlord's as much as possible (including Auto Attacks). Post 6, Diana can 100-0 very easily. Diana's Q dianaQ.png  goes from 10 sec to 6 sec, and even lower if she builds CDR, so be wary of how often she will Q to jump to you with her ult

VS

Ekko

Easy

Ekko is only a hard matchup if you make it hard. Grab taliyahQ.png first and taliyahE.png second then any time he wants to trade with his ekkoE.png and ekkoQ.png combo, throw your stuff down and walk towards tower.

VS

Fizz

Hard

Fizz is still a stupid fish that can be unkillable and also goof to get insta-killed. Stay behind creeps and poke with Q to wave clear if need be. I suggest 21.png 4.png OR 12.png 4.png. Let him push and call for ganks

VS

Gangplank

Easy

Not a tough match-up. Pre 6, poke and force him out of lane. Your taliyahQ.png is a lot stronger than his parley.png so abuse it. Late game GP wins in straight up 1v1, but you shouldn't ever fight him past 20 minutes alone.

VS

Gragas

Medium

Not many people play gragas mid anymore, so the people who do will probably be pretty good at him. Your taliyahE.png  E counters his gragasbodyslam.png E so any time you see him drinking the casket, he is looking to trade so throw your E down and let him come. Your roaming potential is better than his, but his sustain is better because of his gragasdrunkenrage.png W

VS

Heimerdinger

Easy

Pretty straight forward match-up. Let him push you under tower and try to last hit as best you can. Use your abilities to get as many creeps as possible. Don't fight him until you have one full item. With your taliyahQ.png you can easily take our his turrets.

VS

Jayce

Medium

Jayce is a bursty AD champ who likes to skirt in and out of fights with poke and disengage until he can all-in and kill you. His jayceR.png range is just far enough so your taliyahW.png W will have some trouble reaching him, unless you put yourself in danger. Sit back and try to trade poke with him. If you see him change to Hammer Form, try to abuse.

VS

Karma

Medium

This is a fun match-up, if you get lucky enough to play against it. Be careful, as Karma's damage at early levels is deceptive, and she can hurt. Try to land a few E and W combos to show her who is boss, and push her out of lane.

VS

Katarina

Medium

Kat is always Kat. Even if you poke her early and keep her off farm, she can still sneak in and find a triple kill somewhere. Sit back and poke early, and save your w for when she jumps onto you, esp after 6.

VS

LeBlanc

Medium

Le Blanc can be a rough match up. Stay safe and try to survive until you can get a gank or you can roam to pick up gold from kills and assists. Be careful, because Le B can roam just as easy and just as fast. Try to stay one step ahead and keep your E taliyahE.png for her W leblancslide.png and place your W taliyahW.png where she will jump back to.

VS

Lulu

Easy

Not many people play Lulu mid in the current meta. She's a pretty easy matchup because your damage is higher than her damage, plain and simple. Try to abuse with your W E combo any chance you get.

VS

Lux

Medium

Two immobile mages in the same lane together comes down to skill. Plain and simple.

VS

Malzahar

Medium

Malz can be tricky, but not impossible. As Taliyah, you shouldnt be diving him under tower after level 6, ever, because theres no reason to. This is a farm lane and depends on who scales better. I think late game, Taliyah has the upper hand. Tailyah can use her taliyahW.png W to interrupt his alzaharnethergrasp.png R on a teammate (but youre screwed if he does it on you)

VS

Morgana

Easy

Try to fight from a distance. Levels 1-5 you have an advantage, so abuse it. Good Morganas will try to tormentedsoil.png W the wave and push, but you have good waveclear as well. Look to roam

VS

Twisted Fate

Easy

This is a pretty easy match-up. Your cooldowns are lower, your damage output is higher. Try to force TF out of lane between levels 3-5, and soak some good farm up. Try to warn your teammates when TF hits level 6, so they know if he will ult.

VS

Veigar

Easy

Early game belongs to you. Harass and poke to be as annoying as possible. Mid game, you still have the advantage of lower cool downs and better kiting, so take advantage of that. Late game, he becomes a monster, so be careful, becuase he can still 100-0 you, even if you have 3027.png 3116.png and 3152.png

VS

Yasuo

Easy

This is a solid match up for you. Put your e down every time a new creep wave comes in, and zone with your Q. Careful about doing that, though, cuz the wave will push and you could get ganked. Make sure you have a pink ward.

VS

Zed

Hard

Zed is a rough match up. You are everything he is looking for in a target: low mobility, squishy, and no hard CC. Stay back, rush a Seekers Armguard, and survive until late. Call for ganks and ward so you can ping when he leaves. Lucky for you, your taliyahR.png R can help you follow when he roams so maybe you can pick up a few kills or assists.

VS

Zyra

Hard

Zyra is super annoying, and will harrass constantly. Let her push with her plants, and call for a gank, becuase she has no escapes. She is a bit stronger than you in lane, mostly because she can have so many zyraW.png down at a time from her passive and W.

Tips and Tricks Back to Top

One cool thing I found while playing Taliyah, is her ability to use all her abilities at once. Hit E, double tap W, and throw your Q almost simultaneously.

EDIT: Rito really helped Taliyah by making her taliyahW.png vector cast. If you don't know what this means, think of Viktor's viktordeathray.png E or Rumble's rumblecarpetbomb.png R. Still super easy to chain spells, but now you can start your W, then immediately hit E to combo WAY easier.

I would highly recommend playing her in a custom/bot game. Her abilities are unique and ult is different.

In lane, use your worked ground not only to poke, but also to farm from long distance. Your Q becomes a great tool for pushing in those last few caster minions before going back to base.

Taliyah's skill ceiling is pretty high. Don't get frustrated!! Play her in about ten games before you decide to jump on or off the band wagon. Her damage output is incredible, and she can make great plays with her Ult,like sealing off the enemy team while your team  takes baron or Ride the wall to get to your team faster from across the map.

WHEN ULTING:
 - Hit R again to ride the wall. Whatever side of the wall your cursor is on, that's the side you will jump off.
 - If you reactivate your ult, you jump off too, so don't spam it trying to get away or to somewhere.
 - When you ult, DON"T FORGET that you could've closed off your teammates, so pay attention to when you need to drop your wall.
