Summoner Spells Back to Top

Don't think of Exhaust as a peeling or "Safe" Summoner Spell, think of it as "Control"

You can use Exhaust offensively and defensively.

Exhaust has 3 uses
  1. Reduces damage delt from target by 40%
  2. Reduces their movement speed by 40%
  3. Reduces their Armor & Magic Resist by 10
Exhaust lets you deal with slippery targets such as  107.png55.png84.png, etc. That are hard to hit with tarice.png
It helps to hit your tarice.png when they are slowed.
You do a lot of mixed damage, and having their Armor & Magic Resist, lets you hit a lot harder.

Flash is standard, for Taric it let's you surprise the enemy when going for a tarice.png since you can reposition at the last second with 4.png as tarice.png is channeling, it can also be used to save an ally with a quick taricw.pngtaricq.png.

New Runes Back to Top

Guardian.png?width=64 Block some poke for your ADC in the laning phase, and get a shield and movement speed for you and your nearby carry during teamfights.
Perseverance.png?width=64 Makes having your Summoner spells down not the end of the world if you find yourself in a bad spot, you might be able to get out of it, and gives you lots of distance in teamfights.
Iron%20Skin.png?width=64 More durability for the laning phase, and easily proc the bonus Armor with W taricw.png, also grants slightly more Armor to your binded carry.
Revitalize.png?width=64 Better heals taricq.png & shields taricw.png

Magical%20Footwear.png?width=64 Free boots @ 10 minutes, Taric wants a long laning phase, getting free boots and upgrade for cheaper is the icing on the cake of a free laning phase, giving you a huge gold lead over the enemy support.
Celestial%20Body.png?width=64 +100 health but deal less damage until 10 minutes, makes you tankier to survive the laning phase, and it's very rare that the damage you would be missing would matter in the first 10 minutes.

Masteries Back to Top

  • 5/5 - Wander - Helps get back to lane faster, helps with roams, helps with any map movement, and you don't get any value out of Savagery.
  • 1/1 - Secret Stash - You start with 3 Health Pots, this gives you, even more, value out of them, and 15 Mana per use!
  • 5/5 - Meditation - You don't build into much Mana/ Mana Regen items, so running this helps with using your taricw.png Shield and taricq.png Heal throughout a Laning phase.
  • 1/1 - Bandit - Free Gold Dude

  • 5/5 - Recovery - same reason we take Health Regen Quints in Runes, its way more impactful to have this Health regen Early, and throughout the entire game vs getting bonus stats that wouldn't even be effective until way later into the game from Unyielding.
  • 1/1 - Explorer - Having extra movement speed in bush is really nice for getting distance when trying to land a stun on the enemy, it also helps moving through your own jungle for potentially hovering around Mid & Bot lane early, it is also very useful during Baron / Dragon fights, which Taric loves to Control with his ULT taricr.png
  • 1/5 - Runic Armor - You do make good use out of the Bonus Shield, Healing, and Health Regen that Runic Armor offers, but running:
  • 4/5 - in Veteran's Scar's - lets you have more options for trades levels 1-4, and you gain stats with levels, so if you get behind, the Flat Health in combination with Runes can be a nice.
  • 5/5 - Swiftness  -  You need to be able to move and stay on top of people, or get away which is what this is all about, in combination with 3009.png the enemy should get pretty annoyed of the Taric always behind on top of them smacking them..
  • 1/1 - GRASP OF THE UNDYING - Simply you get more damage based on your health, some sustain when you trade, and can proc multiple times during extended fights (which 44.pngTaric will have a lot of)

Abilities Back to Top

Skill Order

taricr.png > tarice.png > taricw.png > taricq.png

taricpassive.png Passive

  • After Casting an Ability you gain +100% Attack Speed  & your next 2 Auto Attacks deal Bonus Magic damage based on your Bonus Armor, and every Empowered Auto hit Reduces the Cooldowns of all Abilities.

taricq.png Starlight's Touch

  • Works in Charges (1-3) so you can't be casting it every time it's up or you will quickly run out of Mana, for not much value, since the more Charges the heal has the more it heals for.

taricw.png  Bastion

  • Binds to an Ally when will give them Bonus Armor, when cast gives them a Shield based on your Max Health,
  • taricq.png Wtarice.png Rtaricr.png will be Duplicated on wh ever you have binded with taricw.png

tarice.png Dazzle

  • Cast with 1 second delay, so that you have time to move into the enemy to land, you should try to trick your enemy with your movement as you are casting.
  • When lining up a stun from a taricw.png binded ally, you can use the F Keys (f1, f2, f3, etc) to hove over them, and cast it as if you where that champion.

taricr.png Cosmic Radiance

  • Is a really hard ability to use well, you are going to fail it ALOT, but when you have the gut feeling to use it, you need to Cast it without questioning it.
  • Cosmic Radiance has a 2.5 second delay, which means you have to cast in well in advance for you to get value out of it.
  • Can Dive tower very easily with it.
  • When it lands it applies in the small AOE circle on you, and your binded ally, so you need to try to hit as many allys with it as possible.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Core Items

Build Path - Boots of Speed > Sightstone > Boots of Swiftness > Redemption > Rubysightstone
After Redemption any of these are ok as a 2nd Item

Situational Items

All of these are ok after Redemption and 2nd item. Think about why you are building one of these specific items in game, since they are all pretty situational.

Starting Items

3302.png2009.png2009.png2009.png(+165 Health + 15 Mana Each)using all = (+495 HP & +45 Mana) 3340.png

3302.pngRelic Shield, 3 Biscuits, and a ward on cooldown.

Relic Shield gives you Passive Gold Income, and lets you Share CS with your ADC, along with giving them a small Heal, you want to make good use of this by saving the Relic Stacks for when your ADC is lacking HP, and you want to Maximise your Gold income by trying to only use the Relic stacks for Minions in this order - Cannon > Melee > Caster.

2009.png Don't blow a Health Pot every time you take a small amount of damage, ideally you use these as recovery after attempting an E tarice.png

3340.png You only get a Trinket ward 180 Seconds (3 minutes) so you need to have a good read on the Enemy Jungler potential location.

Once you get 2049.png Sightstone, you can switch to Sweeper, holding on to 3340.png is only beneficial if you are trapped on your side of the map.

Build path

3302.png > 2049.png > 3009.png > 3105.png1033.png3190.png3067.png1031.png3109.png3114.png3801.png3107.png3024.png3105.png3050.png

This will be your build for pretty much every game so you should get used to playing around it, having Locket, Knight's Vow, and Redemption gives you a larger amount of control of team fights especially with taric's long ability cooldowns if you can't get auto attacks off, which you have so much control already over with taricr.png 3107.png3.png

3190.png Locket gives you an active ability that becomes an AOE Shield to you and nearby allies, that goes away quickly, the shield scales with how much health you have, so the more health items you stack the better the shield becomes. The Armor and Magic resist you get from Locket are also very valuable for Taric.

3109.png  Knight's Vow is more helpful if you are against a mostly AD(Attack Damage) team, and would like to prioritize absorbing damage for 1 carry.

Other Items

  • 3025.png Gives you a lot of Cooldown Reduction, and the slow helps you and your team stay on targets, and extra damage is nice, and you can proc the sheen pretty much on cooldown.
  • 3222.png You only want to get this if the enemy has really impactful CC such as 90.png ULT, since the item doesn't give you many effective stats and cost so much.
  • 3069.png Nice to replace Relic Shield with, 2053.png Passive is really useful when fighting in lanes, helps with giving ally team speed boost to Tower Dive with taricr.png
  • 3152.png If you are that far ahead, using the active to reposition and landing tarice.png will surprise the enemies, and probably your team as well lol.

  • Janna
  • Kalista
  • Karma
  • Katarina
  • Leona
  • Lulu
  • Morgana
  • Nami
  • Rengar
  • Sona
  • Zyra

  • The second she launches an enchantedcrystalarrow.png , cast your ULT taricr.png
  • During laning phase stand behind your minions so you don't get hit by her Volly volley.png
  • If she is standing still in lane, she might be looking to hit a cross map

  • Watch fo his bardq.png Q Bouncing off minions into you.
  • Don't stand right next to your carry or he will stun you both with bardq.pngCosmic Binding
  • When he Ults your entire team with bardr.png You can cast your ult taricr.pngbefore or after it lands to make sure your team is safe when everyone becomes targetable again.

If you ally get's rocketgrab.pngpulled, it's easy enough to put a taricw.png Shield, and taricq.png Heal them, but you want to cast your tarice.png Stun towards any enemy champion near blitzcrank, because even if you stun him, he will get all his abilities off rocketgrab.pngpowerfist.pngstaticfield.png as he is being stunned, and targets trying to follow up on his CC will likely not be paying attention to your incoming Stun in time to react.

  • Her range is annoying in lane, but hey don't AFK in auto attack range of her
  • You sustain and block a lot o her damage, it's pretty easy to taricw.png as an incoming Headshot is fired at them
  • If you are trying to land a tarice.pngStun expect her to try and caitlynentrapment.png and be ready to flash onto her.
Caitlyn is also an interesting champion where the better the player the better the champion can potentially be, so any game you are against her it's a good idea to feel out how well she autos and moves during the first few levels and since you will have to adjust how you play compared to her.

Luckily for you, you can cast your all your abilities from really far away, so even if someone is soloed out by camiller.png then you can still bind them with taricw.png and help them out!

  • Roams are pretty much required in this lane, unless the really mess up it's impossible to kill her
  • If you spend a lot of your movement and abilities on her and she doesn't die you lose

  • With all her jumps you should be looking to flash if you ever want to hit a tarice.pngStun
  • If a target is being launched at you from kalistarx.png be ready to buffer taricr.pngULT

  • Her utility is much easier to use
  • Don't eat karmaq.png
  • karmasolkimshield.png Gives the enemy movement speed as well, giving them more maneuverability against your tarice.png Stun

  • She moves alot
  • You have to predict where she is going to land a tarice.pngStun, if you ever shoot it to where she is it's not going to land.
  • If she goes onto someone you need to immediately Exhaust her, your ULTtaricr.png will come down too late to save them most likely.

Taric hard counters Leona, she can't burst you out if she CC's you

And you can assist allies she gets onto with all your abilities taricq.pngtaricw.pngtarice.pngtaricr.png

Lulu does a huge amount of magic damage in lane
Really hard to engage onto her, try to play fights to protect your team instead of getting onto lulu

blackshield.png blocks your e tarice.png stun, and getting hit by a darkbindingmissile.png will leave you in a terrible position. taricw.pngtaricq.pngtaricr.png can help an ally that gets hit

You want to extend the laning phase against Nami but not get out poked or take to much damage.

3190.png helps a lot against Nami

Timing your ULTtaricr.png is tricky, but if it's not super obvious that Rengar is going to jump on target, then you don't have to blow it, but when he does jump you need to cast it immediately

You are going to slowly lose the lane to Sona, you need to be ok with this, focus on farm your Relic stacks and keeping your ADC even in CS, if you try to force a fight onto her 2v2  and it doesn't work out then you will be in a much worse spot than necessary, just wait until Mid game fights to worry about having an impact, you should out shine her then.

  • Try to out sustain her, with your 3 2009.png, and only using your Q taricq.png when it has 3 Stacks, trading YOUR health for her mana is very worth in this matchup, as long as you don't die trying to do so.
  • If your Jungler comes in to gank her, be ready to peel for your Carry, as she will probably turn on them.
  •  If an ally gets on top of her, bind to them and try to hit an E tarice.png

Early Game Back to Top

Entrance into the lane is really important. If you are against a double ranged match ex (143.png51.png), you want to start in the lane, to push the first wave so that they can't zone you and your ADC levels 1-3. If you spend time leashing your jungler if they start bot side you will most likely take a lot of damage.

During Laning Phase, focus on sustaining you & your ADC, and farming 3302.png Relic Stacks. If you waste mana by missing E 's tarice.png then the longer your recall is delayed you can really be in a bad spot of not being able to recall, and having no mana, effectively becoming a minion with a lot of HP.

For Ganks you don't have to be the one to be near the enemy to land tarice.png, since you can bind to your jungler, it's was more deceptive to wait on him to enter the lane then bind taricw.png and cast tarice.png on top of him, than to start walking at the enemy after playing back for so long.

Mid Game Back to Top

Mid game is where you come online. Around this time, most teams will lose their minds from not having any direction and will be looking for a fight any time they see an enemy champion. Any 5v5 that happens you need to stand back and wait until the enemies use some gap closers, since you can stall fights for a long time with your ULT taricr.png

You don't have to blow all of your abilities tarice.pngtaricw.pngtaricq.png at the start of a fight, if you don't need to use them, try to save them, especially your Stun tarice.png, your stun is on a very long cooldown, and if you miss it once, you most likely won't have it up again by the end of a fight.

Late Game Back to Top

Late game carries will be at the point where they can insta kill each other, so you can NOT be late on channeling taricr.png your ULT.

See " Warding " Section

Late game is the similar to mid game in the sense that you want to Control Team Fights, but now you should have a lot more items, such as 3107.png3190.png3109.png etc. That will let you provide more safety, and allow you to tank a couple more abilities, now don't go walking into 5 enemies, it's not like you have a full tank build (3047.png3742.png3065.png3025.png3143.png3075.png

Activatable Items

If someone is diving onto your carries you need to activate 3107.png over them, and if you know a lot of incoming damage is going towards them, then you need to activate 3190.png, when activating Locket, you need to try and position as close to as many ally Champions as possible, so that they actually get the shield.

For the most part though, as long as you are using the activate part of the activatable items, then you will get better and better at it.

You really REALLY need to pay attention when trying to land a stun late game, missing 1 is no acceptable. When an enemy champion is diving onto your carries, bind to them, cast it from their direction, and try to give them no options of movement to dodge the tarice.pngstun coming from you and your carry.

Team Fighting Back to Top

Choosing who you taricw.png bind to during fights is very important. If you are not going to bind to your carries (Mid / ADC), then you risk them being easier to kill. If you bind to Tank / Brusier (Top / Jungle) you empower their ability to dive and not take as much damage.

Both options are very strong, but you need to be 100% sure on doing one or the other.

If you don't bind to your carries, you can still peel for them by casting taricr.png & taricq.png while close to them.

Pros and Cons Back to Top

  • HUGE team fight control
  • Able to be Defensive and Offensive ( Control
  • Sustain's ADC during laning phase
  • Great at Diving towers with ULT taricr.png

  • Hard to play, takes practice
  • If you miss Stun tarice.png, you can be brutally punished
  • Very very tricky to play in team fights
  • Hard to engage by yourself

Warding Back to Top

Warding with the 3340.png Warding Trinket

At the start of every game, your only options for warding before you get 2049.png Sightstone, is to use the 3340.png Warding Trinket.

The 3340.png Warding Trinket only gives you a 60 Second ward, that gives you a very small range of vision compared to a 2049.pngSightstone's Vison Ward.

The best way to make use of the Warding Trinket during the early laning phase, is to place it before the enemy jungler shows up, this will change every game depending on the enemy jungler, generally here are some good spots to trinket

Trinkets Outlined in Blue are for when you are on Blue Side
Trinkets Outlined in Red, hey you guessed it, are for when you are on Red Side.
Trinkets Outlined with both, work well on either side.

If you have full control over a lane, placing a trinket in the bot lane bushes isn't terrible as long as you play around the possibility of Gank timing windows properly.

3340.png / 3341.png
Once you get Sightstone, you generally want to switch to Sweeper, but you can make use of the trinket wards in a very extended laning phase, but after say 20 minutes, you will most likely NEED to switch to sweeper or you will be walking through enemy wards the entire game.

So when you get Sightstone the ENTIRE game changes. There are ways you SHOULD use, and ways you CAN use it.

Where to place a Sightstone Ward, has a LOT of  factors that go into why or when you should place a ward, hopefully this makes it simpler:

When To place a Ward

  • If you know the enemy is likely to come from an area in 1-2 minutes.
  • If the enemy has the ability to jump over walls, ward over the wall they would come from ex (9.png64.png)
  • So you can spot enemy champions moving from one lane to another in the fog of war.

When not to place a ward

  • You are near a bush and there isn't a ward in it
  • When you are in a lane and afraid that someone is in that bush you are going to ward
  • When you already have vision of the target you are try to ward against

Mid - Late Game Warding

  1. Do you have advantage and 2-3 champions with you > get a ward in their jungle
  2. Is the game even / you have no ally champions to assist with deep warding > Ward river / enterences to your jungle
  3. Are you behind / multiple towers have fallen > Ward your Jungle.

Here are all easy Warding spots.

Mid - Late game, you shouldn't be going on solo missions into the enemies side of the jungle to get a useless deep ward, only to find 5 champions and a grey screen. Any time you want to get a ward on the enemies side of the map, ping your laners / jungler to assist you with walking into the enemy jungle, who knows you might find a solo member of the enemy team instead and be able to pick up an easy kill.
