Summoner Spells Back to Top

This is personal preference in my opinion. I go for flash ignite for bursting down carries in team fights. 12.png is good if you play on assisting your bot lane or pushing pretty hard.

New Runes Back to Top

Masteries Back to Top

The new masteries introduced in 5.22 make Teemo stronger. Oppressor makes shrooms stronger. The new mana regen helps out a ton with his mana situation due to mana potions being removed.

The movement speed out of combat is for roaming, secret stash is just my personal preference, assassin can work also. You can choose either intelligence or precision based on what you want. Thunderlords is a must for his Q auto Q combo.

This is where you need to pay attention. A lot of people play Teemo and max E first. That is not as effective as a burst assassin Teemo. Attack speed Teemo falls off incredibly late game unless heavily fed. The most effective Teemo ability path is Q max first for the constant poke in lane and for picking off carries in late game. A maxed Q along with Luden's Echo does some serious damage to squishy ADC's. Next you want to max E. Maxing E helps with some damage but the reason I like it best is for farming. You want to go for your R next of course. W should be the last ability hitting max level. More about how to effectively use your abilities in a section below. Only max E first when you're against a very tanky opponent and just farm. Your main goal in the late game is to make their carries too low to fight and provide heavy damage from shrooms as well as the AOE slow.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

This is best for early poke. Still better than dark seal start.
Use this build when against an aggressive enemy.
Take this if you want hourglass early or if your enemy laner is heavy AD.

Core Items

These items are necessary to play Teemo effectively.
    Full build example.
I get this enchantment for chasing and or kiting. It is the best one for Teemo in my opinion.

Situational Items

Playing against heavy AD top laner like Yasuo or Zed.
This item will give you a decent mana pool and the hp and ap buff help a lot early game.
If you need the tank, it also works very well with liandrys and your Q.

VS

Aatrox

Medium

Poke Poke Poke Poke. If you can poke and not let him touch you, you will outfarm him and win the lane.

VS

Darius

Hard

Due to the juggernaut update he will destroy you. Thanks Riot.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Medium

He's very tanky so you want to focus on farming rather than poking. I suggest taking some early points in E in this matchup.

VS

Fiora

Medium

This matchup took me some time to win, but once you learn all of Fiora's dirty tricks you will win. Always try to bait off her W then hit a Q. This will insure you to win lane but it is very difficult.

VS

Gangplank

Medium

Don't let him farm. Spam Q at him as much as you can but be careful to not run OOM. The second he catches you OOM he will win the fight.

VS

Garen

Hard

Due to the juggernaut update this lane is pretty hard. It requires you to know your teemo and time your abilities just perfectly.

VS

Gnar

Medium

Relatively easy to win, poke him and when he goes mega finish him off.

VS

Gragas

Hard

His poke and abilities make this one hard matchup.

VS

Heimerdinger

Hard

Donger op, his turrets will make it hard for you to poke him.

VS

Irelia

Easy

She relies on autos to kill, blind and she's weak.

VS

Jarvan IV

Medium

His abilites and tankiness can be annoying but if you time your blind and shrooms correctly you will win.

VS

Jax

Easy

Basic attack based champion, right before he stuns you Q him, he'll do no damage.

VS

Jayce

Hard

He relies on abilities making your blind almost useless on him, wait for him to switch to hammer and shroom and blind.

VS

Kayle

Medium

Fairly squishy, only thing that makes her a medium is her ult.

VS

Kennen

Medium

After his ult, if you're still alive burst him down. Rushing hourglass highly recommended.

VS

Lee Sin

Hard

A good lee can time his abilities correctly to kill a Teemo. A good Teemo will beat an average Lee.

VS

Malphite

Medium

His poke is weaker than yours, make sure you prevent him from constantly bringing up his passive.

VS

Maokai

Hard

He's tanky, he bursts, he doesnt use auto attacks much. Very hard to beat but it can be done.

VS

Master Yi

Easy

Auto attack based champ, Q and drop a shroom then auto him to death.

VS

Mordekaiser

Medium

Pretty hard due to the juggernaut update, don't let him get close and you should do fine. If he gets close Q him at his second or before his third auto. If he gets all three off... RIP TEEMO.

VS

Nasus

Easy

Poke, poke, poke WIN. He will most likely build MR so go for a Liandrys or void staff first.

VS

Olaf

Medium

Auto attack based champion but his ult makes him harder than the usual auto attack champion. When his ult is up hit W and run, dodge axes, wait till the ult is done and then fight.

VS

Pantheon

Hard

His poke costs less mana, lowe cooldown, and if youre low HP it will just kill you, avoid this matchup.

VS

Poppy

Medium

Keep your distance and you should win. when she dives drop some shrooms and blind.

VS

Quinn

Easy

Your poke is superior, she is a basic attack based champion, when she goes valor she can do nothing to you, easy win.

VS

Rammus

Hard

Rammus combines great mobility with op tankiness and a built in thornmail, keep your distance and farm.

VS

Rek'Sai

Easy

Auto attack based champion, after he knocks you up, blind and drop a shroom.

VS

Renekton

Easy

Poke him to death, make him not get any cs and you win.

VS

Rengar

Medium

He's pretty easy because he has to dive onto you to do damage, but he has a big burst.

VS

Rumble

Medium

His abilities can beat you if you aren't careful. Never let him face you or you will lose the trades. Hide behind minion waves and poke.

VS

Ryze

Easy

Ryze is bad this meta.

VS

Shen

Easy

When he taunts, you just do more damage to him, blind while he's dashing and easy win, he'll always lose trades.

VS

Shyvana

Medium

She relies on auto attacks but she has descent damaging abilities, poke and you should be fine. Her tankiness may get annoying.

VS

Singed

Medium

Don't let him touch you, if he flings you into his gas its game over.

VS

Sion

Hard

Sion has some descent poke, his passive is annoying, his burst is scary if you are close range, stay in the back and farm.

VS

Swain

Hard

He has 2 poke abilities over your one. After he gets a mana pool he will poke until you're backing.

VS

Teemo

Medium

Most teemos rely on auto attacks like dumbos. Blind him and he's useless but he may blind you back. If you build with this guide you will win.

VS

Trundle

Easy

Based on auto attack, poke and run and you'll be fine.

VS

Urgot

Hard

His ranged poke is annoying, try to dodge and farm.

VS

Vayne

Easy

Auto attack based squishy champion, easy.

VS

Vladimir

Hard

Sustain and his poke, don't waste your time poking him, focus on farm.

VS

Volibear

Medium

Tanky, get past his passive and attempt to burst him down. I usually just farm.

VS

Wukong

Medium

Dodge his ult and you should be fine. He's pretty squishy.

VS

Xin Zhao

Easy

Auto attack based fighter, easy to nuke.

VS

Yasuo

Hard

Yasuo is just OP. His Q's still hit even if he's blinded but they are counted as basic attacks. Makes sense right?

VS

Yorick

Hard

High sustain and poke, try to out farm him.

Effectively Using Abilities Back to Top

Passive - Teemo's passive is hard to use effectively but when you do it is devastating to the enemy. Try to hide somewhere random in lane every time you attempt to use his passive to poke or catch the enemy off guard. Using the same positions will only get you killed. VERY IMPORTANT - Make sure you constantly check for pink wards!!! Letting pink wards stay alive will cause your passive to be nearly useless. If you are low in health you can now stealth while still moving in bushes, if you're against a non skill shot champion you can just run to a bush and laugh at them, again watch for pink wards.

Q - Teemo is great at poking. Maxing your Q first allows you to fulfill his poke potential. His Q is the main reason why he owns top lane in almost any match up. 122.png OP. When facing a melee champions it's quite easy to use his Q effectively. When the enemy comes to hit you in the face shoot a Q to their face and watch them cry when they do no damage at all. The best thing to do against a melee champion is to let them get in your face, lay a mushroom, then Q and auto attack until they die. This will show them that every time they try to trade you they will fail. Trust me after you do this a few times to them they won't attempt to kill you in the laning phase anymore. Teemo's Q is a spell, meaning that when you hit an enemy champion with it you will not create minion aggro. With a fairly low cooldown and high damage, this ability makes every melee top laner fail if you use this effectively. Q them as they walk up to try to farm and they're forced to back off.

W - This ability is very effective on Teemo due to his great wave clearing power with his R. You will be able to push up far by dropping a shroom to clear an entire wave, when you see an enemy coming to stop you press W and out run them.

E  - This is what Teemo is known for, along with SHROOMS. Toxic Shot does deal great damage but the only problem is, is that it takes a lot of time to deal this damage. I prefer and I think the better thing to do with toxic shot is think of it as Teemo's farm helper. It adds that extra kick at level 2 to deal enough damage to minions to make it very easy to last hit. Maxing Toxic Shot first may give you good wave clear but the damage and poke from maxing Q is much more beneficial early game. Hitting the enemy with his auto attacks grants minion aggro which will lead to lower HP and you will be more easily ganked or bursted down by casters. If you are against a very tanky enemy max this first and just farm.

R - SHROOMS, SHROOMS, SHROOMS. Teemo's shrooms can be used in many different effective ways. My personal favorite way to use the shrooms is in the enemy jungle. When the enemy jungler is going for devours they will most likely do what ever they can to get all of their stacks fast. When I see the jungler in lane I put shrooms in front of their camps, if they dare to take a camp with low health, which happens a lot, they will die. This works well for the first 10 minutes then they buy a sweeper and pinks and... yeah... Another way to use the shrooms are offensively in lane. When the enemy starts fighting you place one shrooms about every three seconds you are in the fight. This will cause continuous slows and high damage to the enemy throughout the fight. The third way you can use his shrooms are hiding them in lane, I personally like to put them in the outer edges of the lane, where the minions don't generally walk, but the path finding makes the champions walk. Nothing makes a player more mad than stepping on a Teemo shroom. The final way that I find useful is using them as wards and gank prevention. Do NOT only put one mushroom in a bush and call it warded, a lot of the times the jungler won't go near the bush because they expect it. Place the shroom in the middle of river and in the bush. This will cause you to get good vision and there is a much higher chance the enemy will step on the shroom. Placing shrooms in front of dragon can lead to killing the enemy jungler. Put the shroom really close but not on dragon and If the enemy has a Master Yi or a melee jungler, they will step on the shroom causing you to know they are there and dealing some good damage.

Mid Game Back to Top

The best thing for a Teemo to do is push down top tower quickly and roam, unless youre against a Nasus of course. Teemo's roaming works extremely well in the mid game. He can pick off squishy enemies in seconds. The best thing to do is to take down one specific target. To do this I use the following combo: Flash if im not close enough, then Q Auto Ignite. That usually kills the squishy carries instantly.

The most important thing to do in the mid game is to siege as many objectives as you can or find ways of getting ahead in gold. Kills don't always mean wins. Instead of killing and taking risks you can clear a few camps or push a few lanes. This will still give you gold and you won't have to risk the other team getting even farther ahead. Shroom their jungle for vision and pick off lone carries. After you get a victory back off. Be happy with the victory or it might turn into a defeat. Only team fight if you're pretty sure your team has the skill and equipment to win. Don't fight if you're all level 10 and they are all level 14. You will most likely lose this fight.

Late Game Back to Top

Late game is where Teemo shines best. His ability to chunk carries with randomly placed shrooms is a huge game changer in team fights. His burst is insane, he can beat almost anyone on the enemy team, even if they are straight tank. The builds I have above make Teemo shine as just an all around easy win.

Important Things to do in Late Game that are Possible as Teemo -
  • Burst down carries, even if you are killed in the process, K/D/R doesn't win games, taking out fed enemies or someone with higher kill potential than you do for your team wins games
  • Use shrooms to control objectives and the map
  • Use shrooms in teamfights to deal massive constant damage to their whole team
  • Make their ADC useless with your Q
  • Help your team escape with shrooms if the fight is going wrong
  • Contest objectives and capture as many objectives as you can, if you think theyre going to baron soon get a sweeper and sweep the wards then go invisible in baron pit, when baron is almost dead have your team CC their jungler and steal it, tricky but it works, the same thing can be done with dragon
  • Push waves in your favor with one shroom in the middle, the enemy will constantly have to send people to the lanes leaving them weaker to team fights

Pros/Cons With This Playstyle Back to Top

Pros -

  • High burst potential
  • Shrooms
  • Scales well into late game
  • High mobility
  • Amazing poke
Cons  -
  • Squishy
  • Long cooldowns
  • High mana costs
  • Requires more skill than attack speed Teemo
  • Lower Attack Speed

Yes Teemo has his cons, but if you learn to work around them and really focus on positioning you should be the master of the top lane! This guide should hopefully solve any problems you have!

The marksman meta has arrived. Teemo is an even greater pick now due the buffs they have gotten!

Ranked Play Video Back to Top

READ IF YOU WANT MY THOUGHTS WHILE WATCHING THE VIDEO: In this video I quickly realize that I need to focus on farming against this Naut. His early trades were much greater than mine and his shield made it hard to poke. I maxed E first but then got ganked and died. They lost their summoners but I didn't lose mine. That allowed for me to respawn, kill Nunu and get the assist on Naut. This put me greatly ahead. I accidentally took my support mastery page so I did not have that extra kill potential but I did have some pretty good move speed and CDR. You will notice that against Naut after he got his hook I almost never stopped moving as a farmed. This makes it much harder for the skill shot champ to hit their punishing ability. Later on you see me putting a shroom in a bush then hiding in the one next to it. He didnt see which bush I went in so he assumed it was the first one, ate a shroom, and some of my attacks. Doing stuff like this will greatly help you win your lane. When I knew naut was going to attack me I threw down a shroom and that did enough damage for me to win the fight. I messed up going into Naut when he flashed and shielded. I did not expect this but it turned out to benefit me later. Kha came in for the gank and he had no way of flashing out so he had to run to tower and recall. This also lead to him using his teleport. I positioned my shrooms around the lane just in case Naut came to engage on me. I burned my flash on him not realising how big his minion wave was. Soon after kha came in for the gank and I got the kill. This lead to me taking the tower and being able to join my team in the start of the finish. We fought for awhile using the tricks I already explained. After we pushed up to their inhib towers I placed shrooms in front of their gate to do damage or alert us if someone is coming out. It also gives a good slow. I put shrooms in their jungle for vision and map control, in doing this I found Nunu taking blue, I came and killed him and got blue for myself. In the end they surrendered and we won.

I made a lot of mistakes this game and I am aware of them. I do not claim to be perfect at Teemo or this game.
