Summoner Spells Back to Top

506.png

4.png
Flash

4.png is vital and for someone like Thresh who has no escapes, it is essential for positioning and defensive purposes. It can also be used for offensive purposes to initiate but you have to consider whether it is worth putting your only escape on cooldown for 5 minutes in exchange for potential takedowns
  • If you are in trouble and need to Flash, try to wait until the enemy uses an ability to dodge it.
  • Try and position yourself near terrain you can blink over for a more secure escape.
  • Always be ready to react to enemies that Flash onto you or your allies.
179.png

14.png 3.png
Ignite/Exhaust

14.png
is my preferred summoner spell as it suits Thresh's aggressive style and can result in takedowns that you would normally not get. It is also useful against 7.png and supports that heal.

I would only take 3.png if you are forced to play in a passive matchup against 40.png or there are assassins on the enemy team.

Aftershock/Guardian

Primary (Resolve)

The choice between Aftershock.png?width=32 and Guardian.png?width=32 depends on whether you want extra DPS when engaging + better resistances for yourself or a shield for you and your allies. If you plan on playing aggressively and roaming, I suggest taking Aftershock.png?width=32 and if you are forced into a passive lane or need extra shields, take Guardian.png?width=32.

While Conditioning.png?width=32 is what you will want to take a majority of the time, in some situations you will need to either take Iron%20Skin.png?width=32 or Mirror%20Shell.png?width=32 depending on the enemy team's composition.

Font%20of%20Life.png?width=32 and Second%20Wind.png?width=32 are the best options for their respective slots. Font%20of%20Life.png?width=32 will provide healing for your team for enemies you impair the movement of which Thresh can do with 3 out of 4 of his abilities. Second%20Wind.png?width=32 is essential for keeping the HP up while engaging, trading and also helps if you are against a heavy poke lane.
179.png

Secondary (Domination)

Domination will boost your DPS further and grants extra utility. There are quite a few viable options here but I would always take Zombie%20Ward.png?width=32.
  • cheap%20shot1.png?width=32 increases your damage, take if you plan on being aggressive.
  • Zombie%20Ward.png?width=32 helps with ward coverage is nice with 3364.png.
  • Relentless%20Hunter.png?width=32 if you plan on roaming, great with 3117.png.

179.png

Secondary (Sorcery)

For Sorcery, I suggest Manaflow%20Band.png?width=32 and Celerity.png?width=32. Thresh has problems with mana that Manaflow%20Band.png?width=32 will assist with and Celerity.png?width=32 is good for roaming. You can also mix and match with Scorch.png?width=32, for early pressure in lane and Waterwalking.png?width=32 for increased roaming potential.
179.png

Secondary (Inspiration)

In most cases I like to take Inspiration because it gives you access to Futures%20Market.png?width=32 which is great for allowing you to finish items and always allows you to buy a 2055.png. There are quite a few viable options here that are listed below:
  • Biscuit%20Delivery.png?width=32 helps with sustain in lane and gives some much needed mana.
  • Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=32 gives nice utility allowing your spells to be up more often.

threshpassive.png
Damnation

Collect souls throughout the game to boost your stats and some of your abilities. In the early game, do not go for souls that will result in losing a majority of your HP. After you have left lane, pay attention to people farming the lanes/jungle for any souls. In fights, champions will always drop souls so remember to go back and collect them if you already haven't!
179.png

threshq.png
Death Sentence (Q)

This is your initiation tool and can be used a variety of ways, sometimes even as an escape by hooking and dashing to monsters in the jungle. Generally, you will want to threshe.png beforehand to ensure the enemy is slowed giving you a better chance to land the scythe. If you didn't flay beforehand, you can dash (by reactivating the ability) in and then threshe.png the enemy back. This can also get you in the perfect position for your threshrpenta.png.
179.png

threshw.png
Dark Passage (W)

This is a great initiation/escape tool for your allies but requires good positioning on your part and the placement of the lantern to ensure there is enough distance for an effective engage/disengage. You can also use it to collect out of range souls but I would personally not because of your limited mana unless there are multiple souls.
179.png

threshe.png
Flay (E)

Flay is what can seperate good Thresh players from great. The most important aspect is the ability to interrupt certain abilities such as blindmonkqone.png or tristanaw.png. This is not an easy ability to use and will get some getting used to, especially when trying to knock enemies closer.

While laning, you should make full use of the passive to ensure you get last hits for your 3302.png.
179.png

threshrpenta.png
The Box (R)

The most important factor when using this ultimate is your positioning. Unless you are close (melee range to enemies) they will be able to run out before it has completed. You can also use threshe.png to knock enemies into the wall for additional damage. While this is most effective during a team fight, it is also a very good deterrent for enemies chasing but only in close quarters such as the jungle and river. Keep in mind that the CD is very large early on.

Starting Items

Although you are not melee, 3302.png is important because it is the only support item that provides defensive stats which is essential for a frontline champion. Use the passive of threshe.png to easily last hit minions.

Due to the nerfs to 3302.png, 3301.png is a great alternative providing an easy source of gold and mana at the cost of some defensive stats which can be substituted with the gold you accumulate.
179.png

Core Items

Your priority when buildings items should be: 1001.png --> 2049.png --> 3117.png --> 2303.png --> 3190.png

Early 1001.png is important for roaming as well as getting in range for threshe.png. 2049.png is a staple for any support, make sure you switch your 3340.png with 3341.png when you purchase it. For even better roaming and mobility, we get 3117.png.

3190.png is essential not only for the active but for the defensive stats, giving Thresh close to 100 Armor and MR when completed.

3107.png and 3109.png are next but the order which they are purchased is dependant on the game. 3107.png gives some much needed mana regen and a great active that pairs well with 3190.png. 3109.png is the tankier alternative and useful when against AD threats or fed ally who you can roam with.

ALWAYS buy a 2055.png when you recall, multiple if you can.
179.png

Situational Items

3222.png is required when the enemy team has strong CC such as enchantedcrystalarrow.png or sejuanir.png. Even if your ADC builds a 3140.png it is still important to build for your other allies of if your ADC is hit by more CC.

3800.png provides nice stats all around and an active that is great for engaging. I would only build this when ahead.

3075.png is great against all AD teams.

VS

Bard

Medium
506.png
  • Always be aware of terrain or allies that bardq.png could stun you with.
  • If you notice Bard disappear from lane with the enemy ADC still there, they could be gathering bardpassive.png, leaving the ADC in a 2v1 situation.
  • If he has gathered bardpassive.png, his basic attacks will deal extra damage and slow enabling him to hit bardq.png easily and win trades.

179.png

  • Bard can be aggressively from level 1 but you counter this with a threshe.png.
  • If you notice bardw.png being stacked behind the enemy, trading becomes more dangerous because they will eventually out sustain you.
  • Look for all in encounters.

179.png

  • barde.png does not have a great use in lane.
  • However, if you have no vision or are heavily pushed to the turret, he can use barde.png to bring the enemy jungler.

179.png

  • bardr.png is very diverse and can even benefit you.
  • Remember, bardr.png can disable turrets so be careful if you or your ADC are low.
  • You can also 4.png out if available.

VS

Braum

Medium

Braum makes it very hard to engage on the enemy ADC as he can just use his abilities to jump braumw.png to them and block incoming damage with braume.png. He can also then easily hit braumq.png and apply braumpassive.png. I suggest using your range to harass with basic attacks and engage after braumw.png and/or braume.png has been used.

Due to the nature of braumrwrapper.png, you will likely always be hit, so it is up to your ADC to position themselves correctly. If you choose to engage, make sure you have close to full HP to ensure you survive.

VS

Janna

Hard

This is the most difficult matchup because she can interrupt your threshq.png dash with howlinggale.png and is quite mobile making her hard to engage on. There will be very few oppurtunities where you can engage such as after she has used a howlinggale.png or eyeofthestorm.png and if she attempts to harass with sowthewind.png.

reapthewhirlwind.png can knock you out as soon as you engage. To counter this, you can use 4.png to re-engage and threshe.png to cancel reapthewhirlwind.png and then threshrpenta.png. Keep in mind that if have still have 4.png this is a risky move. Other than that, there is not much you can do against a Janna that plays passively and shows no openings.

VS

Leona

Easy

An easy to counter matchup as you can interrupt her leonazenithblade.png with threshe.png, so make sure you stay besides your ADC. If you decide to engage, it will be harder for you to do this so keep in mind that she will try to counter-engage on your ADC but it is up to them to position themselves correctly.

leonasolarflare.png will most likely be used on your ADC after you have engaged, once again it is up to them to position themselves so you can threshe.png if she tries to all in. In some cases, she will just 4.png past you instead to land leonashieldofdaybreak.png.

Early Game Back to Top

506.png

The early consists of applying pressure and roaming.

If you are invading get threshq.png first, otherwise; always level threshe.png as it will help you easily last hit minions for 3302.png. While you are much stronger at level 2, if the enemy ADC or support is close enough to threshe.png towards you, you can get a decent amount of damage with your ADC and sometimes a takedown.

The third melee minion of the 2nd wave will give level 2. When you see that minion about to be killed begin to position yourself aggressively for an immediate threshq.png. In most cases, your opponents will back off leaving you to predict their movements but if they are close enough to threshe.png, start with that. If not, threshe.png them towards your ADC after you have dashed in.

The rest of the lane is fairly similar. When you get threshw.png, it should be saved as an escape/initiation tool. If you receive a gank and land threshq.png, try placing the threshw.png before you dash.

If your ADC decides to recall, you should generally recall with them. In some cases, if you have mana you can go and gank the mid lane. Remember, takedowns are not the only thing that can be achieved. Burning their 4.png is very important and can lead to a takedown the next time you gank!

At level 6, you should only use your threshrpenta.png after you have dashed in or you can 4.png in yourself. If the enemy uses 4.png to escape, use threshe.png to knock them back into threshrpenta.png.

Mid Game Back to Top

506.png
Although roaming is an important part of the game, knowing when to roam is also important and if your ADC will most likely die or is forced to do nothing then it is not worth the risk.

Vision control is also important so try to keep Dragon warded at all times and sweep for enemy wards.

If you are ahead or even, continue looking for engagements and roam when possible. If not, play passively and look for oppurtunities. These can include out of of positions enemies or using threshq.png and threshe.png to pull and knock them within tower range.

Late Game Back to Top

506.png
At this stage of the game you can either be reactive or proactive and that is dependant on your composition. If you have an initiator, you can afford to play back and engage after they have. If you do not, then you will be responsible for initiating fights and this is where 4.png comes in handy.

In some cases, you need to stay with your team to protect them from assassins. Thresh is very good at this and will normally result in a takedown if you can threshq.png them.

Finally, remember to continually ward, especially around Dragon and Baron!
