Summoner Spells Back to Top

No question about this, pretty much your standard summoner spells for AD carry. The option of taking cleanse instead of heal is up in the air, but it really depends on the type of enemy team composition you are up against. For now, just stick with the basics and with what works.

IMPORTANT NOTE

Please DO NOT WASTE YOUR SUMMONERS. Using flash for a kill is sometimes worth, but only if you know you can survive after the flash. Please do not flash for someone that is already 0-5, your flash as an AD carry is extremely important. IT MUST AND SHOULD ONLY BE USED TO SIGNIFICANTLY IMPACT THE GAME. It can help keep you alive in a crucial fight or help you turn the tides around in a team fight by getting to their back line and killing priority targets. Tristana is a hyper carry ADC, if you can get to their back line safely and kill their carries, by all means go for it. Your damage output is quite high in the mid to late game (assuming that you are farming adequately well) allowing you to go for those reset plays every once in a while. Usually you would want to stay at the back, auto the closest target, jump away from threats, flash from certain death and ult to secure a kill or peel off. The key characteristic that separates good players from the best players is knowing the limits of your champion. Don't try to be a hero, the kills will come, but when the time comes when you need to take the game in your own hands you need to be ready for it. Having these summoners available during team fights can at times win you the game.

Small Tip: Use heal at the last second to save yourself or a teammate, it baits a lot of people into very risky situations that you can take advantage of and get yourself a nice free kill.

Masteries Back to Top

Standard ADC mastery page (for the most part). In this section I would like to highlight some key masteries that may differ from other players. I will be going through every mastery selection: starting with the Ferocity tree then the Cunning tree. The numbering of the points correspond to the row number in their respective trees.

FEROCITY TREE - 12 POINTS:

1) Fury: Attack speed as ADC, pretty much a no-brainer here. Tristana really only has 2 abilities that does significant damage and aren't used that often, attack speed helps a lot more with ADC.

2) Feast: This sustain in the early laning phase will help a lot. Compare it to relic shield, the principle behind taking this mastery is practically the same. You don't want to be taking double-edge sword because the benefits for ranged champions is less and can sometimes, as you can see from the name, put you at a disadvantage. Comparatively, feast is much much better.

3) Vampirism/Natural Talent: Personally and specifically for Tristana, she benefits quite heavily with natural talent as her ult bustershot.png (Buster Shot) and her e detonatingshot.png(explosive charge) both have ap scalings giving you that little bit of extra damage. Looking at this economically, you are basically getting an extra long sword and one amplifying tome late game which is not half bad. *AS OF RECENT PATCHES* Vampirism has seen much more play due to its high sustain advantage especially in the early game. You might want to consider taking it since it has the same idea behind as to why someone would take feast. The extra lifesteal in lane can win you the game.

4) Bounty Hunter: I see a lot of ADC's take oppressor due to the fact that the extra 2.5% damage is seen to occur quite commonly. Honestly, I believe that ADC's, when played well, should inevitably lead to kills. With this mentality, bounty hunter makes a lot more sense since by late game, assuming you have killed each enemy champion at least once, grabs you 5% extra total damage which early game might not seem like much, but late game definitely makes big difference in terms of the magnitude of damage. There's nothing wrong with taking oppressor, I just feel like bounty hunter gives you more bang for your buck, even if it's a little risk since the rewards are great.

CUNNING TREE - 18 POINTS:

1) Savagery: The reason you don't take wanderer is because this mastery doesn't benefit you while fighting, since you're in combat most of the time. Savagery in laning phase makes a huge difference since you can push your lane faster. This allows you and your support to reach level spikes faster such as level 2, or level 6, which can get you kills here and there and lane pressure/control. Lane pressure and control is extremely important and can sometimes dictate the pace and outcome of a game.

2) Secret Stash: Cookies, need I say anymore. Not only does this mastery buff your pots to a wholesome and plentiful biscuit, the other two masteries are completely useless on an ADC. You are pretty much never 1 on 1, making Assassin useless and you don't usually take any buffs except for red later into the game, making runic affinity useless.

3) Merciless: 5% extra damage on a weakened target!!!! SIGN ME UP and if you are having mana issues, there is an item for you, it's called essence reaver. You should pretty much always go Merciless as your mastery for this row.

4) Dangerous Game: This mastery is op, keeps you alive in risky situations, lets you survive minion aggro and possibly ignite. The other mastery is out of the question, YOU are the one who is supposed to be farming not the support, making this mastery completely useless. Dangerous game is a must have for adc's, it can be difference between life and death.

5) Precision: You don't need 5% extra CDR, that doesn't make any sense. Especially on this patch, you get CDR from items like trinity force and essence reaver. That flat armor/magic pen will help you get through tanky opponents and do significant extra damage to squishier priority targets such as the enemy carries.

6) Thunderlord's Decree: In lane throw your bomb on a target, auto them twice and bam you get your thunderlord's damage. Even better, at level 6, auto - e - ult, that's thunderlord's for ya. Some nice burst damage coming out of an ADC. The options right now for ADC are fervor, warlord's, deathfire (for JHIN) and thunderlord's. In my opinion, fervor doesn't really benefit Tristana since you don't have easy to proc abilities, making it harder for you to get fervor stacks since your e takes a while to proc and you wouldn't use ult to get fervor stacks. Thunderlord's is much much easier to proc and will most likely give you more damage in total by the end of the game.

Note: Thunderlord's isn't the best for all ADC's, but for Tristana specifically, it is quite good.

Your skill max order should be R (when possible) - E - Q - W

bustershot.pngR: It's your ultimate, max that sweet buster shot. Does some nice damage throughout the game and helps you get those pesty assassins or tanks off your face. High base damage, can be used to finish off opponents more often than you think, especially early game. Put your bomb on a priority target, try and ult them into the middle of their team and BAM some nice AOE damage. Don't try and pull this off everytime, just do it if you can, it's pretty cool.

detonatingshot.pngE: This ability right here is what makes Tristana a scary ADC. Put this stuff on champions, put this stuff on towers, it wrecks both!!! This is a large portion of your damage, highly volatile against turrets and good for waveclear. The passive on this makes your killing blow on units have a small splash radius. Use this to your advantage by getting that early push on the wave level 1 and getting to level 2 for the all in potential and maybe a kill. Very useful ability. Tip: If you have pushed the enemy bot lane into the tower, rather than putting the bomb on the enemy ADC, put the bomb on the tower and auto it. Its blast radius is doubled when put on a tower, can basically almost kill a whole wave and severely damage enemies.

rapidfire.pngQ: Your attack speed steroid, use this wisely because when it is on cooldown, your damage output is significantly lowered. If it's available, Tristana is an absolute monster.

rocketjump.pngW: YOU BECOME A BUNNY RABBIT - Everytime you get a kill or an assist or get full stacks on your e, this ability resets. What this means is you can become a ridiculous bunny rabbit janitor that cleans up a teamfight. Use this ability to get to safety, get to their backline, even slow them (it does slow on impact) and clean up teamfights. Note: Please use this ability sparingly, if you jump in and don't get a reset, you might have to burn your precious summoners or just straight up die. Use this ability sparingly, but also aggressively when needed. Master this, and your Tristana will be extremely deadly.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    ALWAYS START WITH THESE
AIM FOR THESE ITEMS WHEN BACKING B.F. Sword into Zeal (can go cull for extra gold income if your goal is to just farm early game.)
If you can't get B.F. Sword, get a pickaxe instead

Core Items

    Mid-Game Power Spike
    EXAMPLE FINAL BUILD

Situational Items

Replace one of these with Mercurial
Other Situational Items (mainly for survival against burst or lots of ap damage.)

Starting Items: Go Doran's blade and one pot, there is no better start. Don't even think about cull, it's not worth as the enemy ADC and support can punish you for having less combat stats. Go the safe and consistent start.

First Back: You want to be aiming for a B.F sword first, into a zeal, this is the most common build path right now and having those two items is a pretty big power spike, sneak tier 1 boots into their and you're all set to carry.

Mid Game: Once you have Infinity Edge and Shiv, you are an absolute monster. Take this high damage to teamfights and start carrying your team. Put pressure on towers and carry in teamfights.

Late Game: Pretty situational at the moment but a pretty consistent build is the one up top. Get the essence reaver for some nice CDR for more bombs and lower cooldown on your Q and Ultimate. Get last whisper to shred through those tanks. Get a Mercurial scimitar to remove those pesky debuffs/crowd control or even zed, fizz and any other annoying champ's ult.

Situational: Go Bloodthirster instead of Essence Reaver or Mercurial Scimitar if you're extremely ahead and they don't have any pressing abilities that can really impede you. Go Blade of the Ruined King for better kiting and chase, and in combination with Lord Dominik's Regard (Last whisper), shred those high health tanks. If you really need to survive, you can go Sterak's for that quick increase in health in dangerous situations or if you are playing against high AP damage, Maw of Malmortius is extremely good for the magic shield and extra stats due to the "lifeline" passive.

VS

Alistar

Medium

Poke Alistar whenever he goes up for a targon's stack so that if he decides to all in you, he will have a lot less health. His combo is extremely dangerous at all points in the game so please do respect him. One of the strongest supports in the game so don't take him lightly. Try and avoid him at all costs because his combo can cancel your W which is really frustrating. His cooldowns are really high so after that initial W Q, you should be fine to freely auto after that. Respect him, but don't fear him.

VS

Annie

Medium

Pretty annoying to play against, your W has a pretty long cast time so the only way you avoid her flash CC is if you flash which can be pretty annoying. Nevertheless, she is extremely squishy so if and your support work well together, should be able to punish her if she is over aggressive.

VS

Ashe

Easy

Easy matchup, your damage output is higher, beware ashe's ult though as that can mess with you. During laning phase, hide behind minions so she can't just spam her w on you because over time you will take a lot of damage from it. If she uses w and it doesn't hit you, you are free to walk up if their support is not positioned well get a few autos and an e. Look to all in her as she is immobile, preferably before level 6 because her ult is really the only thing that can stop you.

VS

Bard

Medium

Bard has really high damage output and his q is super annoying. Try not to stand near your support or minions because if that Q lands on you and stuns you, you might die or are forced to burn summoners. Although this might be the case, he is extremely squishy, if at any time Bard is out of position, punish heavily because you can kill him very quickly. If misses his q, he doesn't really have much after that so you are free to play a bit more aggressively after that.

VS

Blitzcrank

Easy

If he tries to hook you and you know it's gonna land, if you W at the right time, the Q won't work even if it hits you. Hide behind minions in lane so you don't need to waste your mana on W but if his q is down, that's your chance to play aggressive and take full control of the lane. If you play carelessly, blitz will punish you though so don't take him lightly even though he is a one dimensional support.

VS

Brand

Medium

Annoying, dodge his W, all in when you can. Try your hardest to avoid his q because that is what stuns you if you are ablazed, if you avoid that you should be fine.

VS

Braum

Hard

Braum is always hard to play against as ADC especially Tristana, his ult can block your ult (even if you target the ADC if his shield is in the way). If you have a q stack on you, you cannot win the trade if try to all in. Only fight if his Q is down and you don't have any passive stacks on you.

VS

Caitlyn

Medium

She outranges you early and laning phase is not the easiest. Don't take too much poke during laning phase, avoid her traps and outdamage her mid to late game. If you can get to Caitlyn safely, you will win the 1v1. Cool tip, you can cancel caitlyn's ult with your ult, easily winning you the matchup. When you decide to all in, caitlyn's ult isn't a factor since she won't be able to stand still against you. Only all in if you know their jungler can't help because if you over commit, caitlyn's ult is really good at finishing you or your support off.

VS

Corki

Medium

Not the easiest matchup, especially for this patch. Corki has extremely high damage on this patch. Don't take this matchup lightly, do not try and fight him. His mid game damage output is a lot higher than yours. Ask help from jungler and play safe. If you do, however, manage to get a lead on him, your full combo and all in potential is a lot greater than his.

VS

Draven

Hard

This ADC is just brutal in almost any matchup. You can outplay him though, your e has a surprising amount of damage. Don't fear Draven, but don't take him lightly either, a very skill matchup. Your all in is still very good, keep track if he actually has axes up, if it's down you and support can definitely all in. Just make sure to avoid their support's CC because draven is very punishing.

VS

Ezreal

Easy

Ezreal will pretty much play safe all game, don't let him get ahead. He has no waveclear, so use that to your advantage. Push your lane in and abuse him. Mid game damage pretty much the same except ezreal has more kite potential. Use your siege capabilities to your advantage. DESTROY THOSE TOWERS.

VS

Graves

Easy

Graves ADC is weird, but don't worry. Hide behind minions and the guy cannot hit you. Don't jump on him though, he is quite bursty.

VS

Janna

Medium

One of the best support at the moment, her shield is super annoying, especially if you are playing against lucian. Play against janna like you would against any mage, keep track of her cooldowns, her damage output relies on her ADC so if her shield is down and she is out of position, look to all in her with your support and burn summoners or get yourself a kill. If the enemy has the shield on him/her, try not to look for a trade because you will not win it.

VS

Jinx

Easy

Pfft, you thought Jinx was a hyper carry. Abuse this immobile, low early game damage ADC and shut her down so she will never get to that late game everyone fears. You find an opportunity to jump on her, do it. She cannot compete with your damage early game. If you find yourself and Jinx alone, jump on her if you guys are on even items because you will definitely win the all in.

VS

Kalista

Hard

Kalista is always hard, very skill matchup. She pretty much doesn't lose lane to anyone so be careful. Play safe, farm up, and provide better single target damage than her. Try not to all in because if you do not manage to kill, the cc with her ult and the rend stacks can destroy you if you misplay. If you are confident in your damage then by all means go for it but it's very challenging.

VS

Kog'Maw

Easy

If kogmaw doesn't have a good support that syncs well with him such as Braum, you should be able to dominate laning phase. Make kogmaw uncomfortable, and treat kogmaw just like another jinx. If his w is down, that is your perfect 7-10 second window to try and kill him.

VS

Leona

Easy

Tristana isn't the most mobile champ in terms of immediate movement but still does extremely well against LEONA. If leona wants to all in and throws her e on you, if you jump right before it connects, the skill will work but your jump will still go through. After that, leona doesn't have much, just try not to face tank her q stun. She is really tanky with her W on but in this meta, she isn't really much of a threat. I would personally be more afraid of a bard than a leona.

VS

Lucian

Medium

SKILL MATCHUP Lucian's got some buffs this patch, fear his ult this is not an easy matchup. Try and sidestep his q and if you manage to do so, you are most likely to win the matchup. On even items early game, you won't be able to win the all in because his damage is extremely high if you get up close to him, try and poke him down since he only has 500 range and when he's below 50%, there's your opportunity. Again, focus on the objectives because you are one of the best Adc's at taking down towers.

VS

Miss Fortune

Medium

This annoying ADC with her stupid e. Miss Fortune is lane DOMINANT. Butttt, she sucks 1v1, if you can get to her, you will win hands down. She really sucks at dueling since her passive essentially becomes useless, literally, useless... Don't stand behind minions because her q does a ton of damage and win the lane for her, they will always look to bounce their q off a minion so if you can avoid that, you should be fine. Your ult can cancel her ult and if she's chasing you, auto her once so she loses the movement speed bonus from her w.

VS

Morgana

Medium

Pretty simple matchup, don't get hit by her Q and you'e fine. You don't really have any dodges so it's not the easiest without boots but just like leona, if you W right before that snare connects, your jump will still go through despite being snared. If morgana's q is down, that's the perfect time to go in since she doesn't have much damage. If morgana ults you, just jump out of the range ASAP and you should be fine. When teamfighting and you don't have QSS, you must flash or avoid this skillshot because if you get hit by it your team will probably lose the teamfight because of your mistake.

VS

Nami

Medium

Pretty much the same as Janna and morgana, don't fight the ADC when he has nami's E on him since it gives the ADC enhanced auto and avoid nami's Q at all costs. She is extremely squishy so punish her if she is out of position.

VS

Nautilus

Medium

This guy is so tanky and his Q can cancel your jump since it has two instances of movement disruption so be careful. It will take a while to kill him, if he ults you just jump away since it will hit you no matter what. Reposition, then continue to fight. Hide behind minions in lane and early game he can fight you 1v1 so be careful. Respect the king of the sea.

VS

Poppy

Medium

Her w can cancel your W which is pretty annoying, definitely not the easiest support to play against but it is possible to outplay her. Avoid standing near walls and if she goes for an auto trade, put a bomb on her and get a few autos then she'll think twice about doing that again.

VS

Shen

Medium

Hard matchup, tanky. Avoid his taunt and you should be fine, his new auto block is really annoying so don't even bother trying to hit him if he's in the circle. If he misses his taunt, he doesn't really have much besides ult so just keep track of that cooldown.

VS

Sivir

Medium

Not the easiest matchup, sivir does have quite high damage output with a few items and she can spell shield your abilities, basically making it an auto attack battle in which she will win.

VS

Sona

Easy

Annoying, but really squishy. Sync with your support and punish if she goes up, you can kill her really quickly. Avoid her ult if you can and I believe she has one of the lowest base HP so punish her early game so she can't get some ap and really hurt you during laning phase and the mid game.

VS

Soraka

Medium

Super annoying if you don't play aggressive, try not to look for trades on their ADC as soraka will simply heal them, but sync with your support to go full aggression on soraka and you should be fine. Dont over commit on targets except for soraka because the amount of health they actually after Soraka helps is quite deceptive.

VS

Tahm Kench

Hard

Super tanky, if he has stacks on you, jump immediately so he doesn't eat you. Pretty annoying to play against because if you put your bomb on their ADC, tahm can eat them and tank the e damage for them. Very annoying matchup but try to avoid his Q and avoid at all costs on getting eaten.

VS

Taric

Easy

Tanky but really bad, don't worry about this matchup.

VS

Thresh

Hard

Always a hard support to play against. His e can cancel your jump, avoid his hook at all costs, but look for auto trades if he walks up to auto you. Your bomb is quite punishing. If your support doesn't help and is not playing well, Thresh will take over the lane and there isn't really much you can do about it. Play safe, avoid the cc, get farm and look to make plays mid game since he does kind of fall off in terms of effectiveness.

VS

Tristana

Medium

What is this normals???? Just think this doesn't happen. But if you were wondering how to play against this bunny rabbit, respect her e damage, keep track of her cooldowns and play around them. If tristana is missing either her E early game, or q late game, her damage output is significantly lowered. Keep track of her cooldown's and you'll be fine.

VS

Trundle

Medium

Hard to play against, the AD reduction he has on his Q can be the difference between you and a kill so do respect his damage since his damage output is quite high. His pillar is annoying but you can just jump out of that so it should be fine. Do not go melee mode against Trundle, try and keep your distance and you should be fine.

VS

Twitch

Medium

Twitch is pretty strong in lane, don't underestimate his e damage. Synergize well with your support and abuse his immobility, beware his invisible though it can catch you off guard. If twitch wastes his e, you should be able to all in because his e is a weaker version of kalista's. He's extremely immobile and his attack speed bonus from his q is nullified if you manage to all in. If you are low and you are unaware of where Twitch is, be careful and don't get caught off guard. If he trys to run away and go invis with q, make sure to do damage to him so it takes longer for his invisibility to activate.

VS

Urgot

Easy

LOL I don't know what to say about this matchup, I barely play it. This guy gets tanky, realllll tanky. TBH just ignore him, kill everyone else then kill him. Easy. Kind of hard to all in once he gets a few items but as long as you don't get hit by his e, his damage output is really low. If he decides to ult you, ult him since you are behind him and send him into your team.

VS

Varus

Easy

This is not an ADC, he is a mid laner. Jump on this guy, you outdamage him. Don't get poked too much though. He is extremely immobile should be an easy matchup. Hide behind minions though, does less damage. Avoid his q, and this be an easy matchup.

VS

Vayne

Medium

HYPER CARRY VERSUS HYPER CARRY - Dominate vayne early, get some towers and you will win. Let her get ahead though, she will abuse you 1v1 over and over again. You can match her damage though so don't be too afraid. Your mid game highly surpasses her and so does your objective control. If you plan to all in on her after level 6, make sure to buy a pink ward and avoid standing near walls because that's the only way you lose the 1v1. Your damage output with your e and your ult is really high with say B.F. sword and a zeal.

VS

Zed

Hard

This champion is just ughhhhhh

VS

Zilean

Easy

Avoid the bombs, all in him when he tries to double bomb you and misses, pretty simple matchup.

VS

Zyra

Medium

Ouch, does a lot of damage, avoid getting snared and poked, all  in her when possible as she is very squishy. After killing her, jump out and try and sidestep her passive. If she ults, make sure to flash or jump out of it because it does a lot of damage and can surely lead to your death.

Support Synergies Back to Top

These are the following supports that I highly recommend playing with as they are currently valued highly in this current meta. I will not be reviewing supports that I feel are unconventional or are just simply sub par in my eyes. I will be categorizing the following supports that flow really well with Tristana which will significantly amplify your success in each game. The following supports are all suited to Tristana's needs and strengths:

S TIER SUPPORTS

12.png Alistar is a complete boss. He has one of the nastiest disengages, engages. He is the complete package. Look to play aggressively with him whenever his combo is up, giving you a lengthy to get your damage through. Alistar is extremely good at tower diving. His whole kit syncs perfectly with what Tristana tries to accomplish, complete domination. You should always feel confident if Alistar is by your side.

412.png Thresh is super good to play with as well. Thresh is an extremely aggressive support which matches Tristana's playstyle. He's one of those supports that if he lands his CC, you are 100% confident in following up because there are not many lanes that can match that amount of damage.

40.png Different than Alistar and thresh, Janna is more of an enabler. Her shield lets you play aggressive and completely take control of the lane on your own terms. Look to trade whenever she decides to put her shield on you. Her ult is super good at winning teamfights and it can peel multiple assassins/bruisers off of you. The only lanes you should be afraid of with this duo is Kalista/thresh, Kalista/bard and maybe Jhin/Korgana.

201.png Very good support, keeps you safe yet still has a lot of pressure in lane. If he lands his passive on someone, that's your queue to follow up. His stun on multiple and loads of CC can help you win teamfights in order to secure objectives and possibly win the lane/game.

117.png Extremely powerful support when paired up with a hyper carry like Tristana. When her shield (pix) is on you, your damage is amplified significantly. Look to play aggressively whenever she has the shield on you. Lulu's ult will save you many times throughout the game and her movement speed is crucial. She can single handedly turn Tristana into a monster.

A TIER SUPPORTS

25.png Her black shield is super good, if it's on you, CC cannot harm you which is extremely useful. Follow up whenever Morgana lands her binding and if she commits, you guys should be able to grab yourself a kill. Not the strongest in laning phase so you should match her aggression so she doesn't get punished.

78.png I personally like playing with Poppy, lots of CC, her dash prevention on her W is extremely useful and preventing threats on getting to you. Her stun is super useful and overall a good support with the disengage on her ult.

432.pngEver since the patches, Bard is a serious bully in the bot lane. His Q is devastating if he lands it and follow up is he does. He has high damage output with his Q and makes him a serious threat in the bot lane. If he lands it, follow up with your bomb, get a few autos and you will have full control of the lane.

16.pngKind of like Janna, but now it's seriously up to you. If you play aggressive against a non-punishing lane, Soraka will allow you to take trades without actually taking damage. Don't recommend playing Soraka against lanes like Kalista thresh because you won't be able to outrade that no matter how much healing you have, especially early game. Play aggressive, but don't be dumb.

43.pngGood poke, good engage and disengage with her ult. Lots of damage, an overall good support.

223.pngTanky beast, can keep you safe and help you reposition. You guys can easily turn around fights without how much damage he can output if he manages to eat their ADC.

48.pngA bit weak in lane, but helps you get picks during the mid to late game. If he catches the enemy ADC out of position with a good pillar, look to all in because the AD reduction on Trundle's Q is extremely effective.

98.pngStrong, stand in his blue circle to avoid taking damage from autos and follow up if he lands his taunt on a priority target. His ult has essentially the same effect as Lulu's so don't be afraid to go split pushing because your friendly neighbor Shen will be right behind you no matter what :)

111.pngTanky, pretty weak early game but his mid game and late game are really good. Can't really do anything level 1 or 2 but his level 3 pressure is relatively high. He's a much better top laner but his kit is definitely good enough to qualify as a A level support.

B (Below par) TIER SUPPORTS:

I personally don't think that these are very good, but if you do get paired up with them, play around their cooldowns and trade when it is safe. Just try and get through laning phase, these supports might be able to do well, but on most occasions, they can easily get outpressured by higher quality supports.

Laning Phase Back to Top

JUNGLE CAMP OP: As of right now, the current meta is the jungler starts the side opposite of the bot lane, so that the bot lane can take the jungle camp, either Gromp or Golems. This EXP advantage will prove to be extremely useful, as you can reach level spikes faster gaining you control of the lane. Make sure you do the camp with your support, tanking the first two shots then switching aggro so you can lifesteal and regen health after hitting it. Kite it towards your lane since it is likely that you will miss a few creeps, which can be problematic at times depending on the matchup in the bot lane. When done properly, this will lead to an exp advantage for the whole laning phase, assuming both bot lanes have spent the same time in the lane. If your jungler doesn't start top, it doesn't really matter but you might have to play at a disadvantage if the opposing bot lane does do the camp. If so, play safe since they will turn level 2 significantly faster than you and can kill you if you do not respect the level 2 power spike. Better safe than sorry...

LEVEL 1: Since you started E, push your lane in passively when you auto minions. Look for the level 2 cheese and synchronize with your support. If your support lands the crucial crowd control, jump on their ADC and auto them to death with the bomb on their heads. If you and your support play properly and the enemy ADC does not respect your damage, it is a free FIRST BLOOD.

TRADE OPPORTUNITIES: Sneak a few autos here and there when they go for a last hit. Better yet, throw your bomb on them and try and land as many auto onto them while still being safe, if they don't respect your damage, your support can help and it might even be another kill. IMPORTANT: Look for when the enemy ADC or support is standing beside a minion that is one auto from death. Auto that minion to get farm AND damage the enemy ADC or support. Additionally, this counts as a Thunderlord's stack so you can use this to your advantage when you want to play a bit more aggressive.

FARMING: Farming with her is a little bit of a puzzle and does take a little getting used to if you have never played with her before. Just keep practicing and getting a hang of the autoing patterns, remember the e passive can help you farm under towers. PRACTICE. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH. PRACTICE.

PINK WARDS: If you have extra 75 gold, make sure to buy a pink because they are extremely useful. Put it in your Tri-brush, put it in the bush in your lane to make lane ganks. These pinks are crucial to keeping you alive, providing extremely useful information to your team which can win you the game. You should never be playing aggressive unless you have enough information to do so (such as knowing where their jungler is on the map) and pink wards helps you to accomplish that. It also takes the burden off your support to always have wards, especially since sightstone only has 3 wards now when you buy it initially.

MID GAME/LATE GAME Back to Top

This section focuses on what you should be doing in the mid game to increase the chances of you winning.

GOLD: Look for safe opportunities to get gold, this means taking jungle camps clearing waves, SET YOURSELF UP FOR VICTORY.

TOWERS: YOU SIR ARE A SIEGING MONSTER, USE YOUR EXPLOSIVE CHARGE AND BLOW UP THOSE TOWERS, COORDINATE WITH YOUR TEAM AND GET THAT NICE GLOBAL GOLD. GET ENOUGH TOWERS AND WIN THE GAMEEEE WOOOOO

Teamfighting: THIS IS PROBABLY THE MOST IMPORTANT SECTION

-hit the closest target
-stay safe
-play aggressive and kill their carries when necessary
-resets resets resets
-use your ult to peel
-stay with your team, preferably behind your tanks
-try and do as much damage as you possibly can
-count how many autos you get in a fight, ask yourself, could I have gotten more? Could I have positioned better?
-dodge important skill shots
-use your summoners defensively and offensively
-STAY ALIVE

Your team is relying on you to do damage, try your best to do so. When you look at high elo players while they are playing ADC, what makes them good is not the 1v5 penta vayne plays. It's their decision making and consistency of damage when teamfighting. They understand the limits of the champions they play and apply those limits to their gameplay. Once you understand what you can and cannot do, you will become one hell of a player. Do the unexpected, but not too often otherwise you're predictable.

COMMUNICATION: Most players complain that their teammates are bad as an excuse for their current ELO. WELL MAYBE IF YOU HELPED THEM THEY WOULD BE BETTER. Use your pings to notify them of your intentions, which objectives to focus, which rotations to execute stuff like that. If you become the leader of the team and play the way you want the game to be played, you will find yourself in more comfortable situations and carry the game even harder. Play your role properly, you are the attack damage carry. If you die for absolutely no reason because of greed or simply mispositioning, that is your fault. BUT, this can be easily fixed through practice and repetition.

Why play Tristana? Back to Top

It's kind of ironic that I am putting this section at the end of the guide but after I explain it to you it will all make sense. What's the point of telling you what the benefits of this champ are if you don't understand why. I can say she's strong and fun but what does that really mean? After going through the guide, I hope your knowledge of this champ, her strengths and weakness have greatly increased, giving yourself the adequate knowledge to evaluate this champion on your own terms and to your own playstyle. Now when I tell you why you should play her, it will make a ton more sense as to why.

Tristana is a hyper carry to put it as simply as possible. She can dominate in lane, has lots of objective control such as sieging and high single target damage during teamfighting. She has resets, allowing you to clean up a teamfight and basically carry your team. Last but not least, she synergizes well with lots of supports and is a very good beginner ADC. The more you play her, the more you will realize how to play around cooldowns, when to and not to go in, who to focus, when can I all in her, how do I control my wave pushing, farming. She has all these little nuances which really accentuate exactly what the role of ADC is actually about. You can learn a lot from playing this champ and she is good enough to get anyone to a relatively high elo.

IT'S ALL ABOUT LEARNING AND IMPROVEMENT. At first, Tristana may seem difficult or awkward due to her farming patterns, but over time, you will learn a lot about your own play and the role of ADC. She was one of the first ADC's that I started with back when I started playing mid season 4 and has been my favorite champ ever since. She is super fun and makes every game interesting. Additionally, she's one of the only champs (and Kha'zix) that play like a bunny rabbit during teamfights.

I really hope this helps anyone who wants to learn how to play Tristana. Remember, ADC is not the most difficult role but it is arguably the most important. You must learn how to achieve a good balance between staying safe and dealing damage. The best players know when to play defensively and aggressively if the opportunity presents itself. Keep practicing and I'm sure any of you can become great at this game. Everyone has aspects to work on, just take it one champion and one game at a time. If you want to learn from me outside the game, come follow me on my twitch stream (twitch.tv/szetolol). I will streaming somewhat regularly during season 6 and hope to improve myself as well as entertain some other league players like myself.
