Flash


4.png is vital and for someone like Tristana who has no escapes, it is essential for positioning and defensive purposes. It can also be used for offensive purposes to secure kills but you have to consider whether it is worth putting your only escape on CD for 5 minutes in exchange for a potential kill.
  • If you are in trouble and need to Flash, try to wait until the enemy uses an ability to dodge it.
  • Try and position yourself near terrain you can blink over for a more secure escape.
  • Never Flash directly into the enemy team for a kill, especially in the late game.
  • Always be ready to react to enemies that Flash onto you.

Heal


7.png is your standard spell to take on ADCs and Tristana is no different. It is a useful defensive tool for not only yourself but your team as well. Similarly to Flash, but not as effective, you can use the extra burst of movement speed to chase down enemies.
  • Beware of 14.png as it will reduce the healing amount by 40%.
  • You can save a teammate if you are close by.
  • If you are in a close 1v1 encounter, you can use Heal to bait the enemy and use it at the last second.
  • In rare cases, you can use the extra burst of movement speed as an escape tool if Flash is unavailable.

Teleport


12.png can be a powerful option if used correctly. It will allow you to maximize your CS and split across the map where it would have been otherwise impossible. If you need 7.png then take it as 12.png is very situational and depends on your own and enemy's team composition.

Core Items


Your priority when buildings items should be: 3095.png or 3153.png--> 3087.png or 3094.png --> 3031.png

3095.png will give nice stats and some additional burst damage while 3153.png is one the easiest to build due to cheap components and useful against high HP enemies. 

3087.png provides more area of effect damage but 3094.png will provide additional range and damage to single targets. Your choice here will depend from game to game and in some cases you can build both for 100% critical strike with 3031.png.
Ensure you have built a 3086.png upgrade before you buy 3031.png or you will be wasting both passives.

Always buy a 2055.png whenever possible. It is everyone's job to ward.


As the game progresses your enemies will build armor against you for more surviabilitty and in most cases you will get 3036.png.

3033.png is only built if you require Grievous Wounds, which reduces all sources of healing by 40%. This is useful against champions such as 16.png who can heal others or 50.png who can heal himself. 3123.png can sometimes be a worthwhile purchase in the early game to mitigate enemy healing, upgrade when needed.

Situational Items



The decision to get a defensive item will always depend on circumstance, however; if you require more defense for any reason you should prioritize these items over more DPS. 
  • 3026.png is a great 5th/6th item that gives you a second life while still increasing your DPS.
  • Take 3140.png against hard CC when required, turn into 3139.png later.
  • 3156.png is great against burst mages and AP heavy teams. Build a 3155.png when required and upgrade later.
  • 3047.png is great against multiple AD threats.

Q: Most of the matchups aren't easy, why should I pick her?


The strength of Tristana comes in her late game when your range matches and exceeds champions like 51.png. Your tristanaq.png gives you one of the best attack speed steroids in the game. When it comes to laning, her range is not terrible but other ADCs easily outrange her, so she can be easily zoned. You can also be easily susceptible to ganks because the passive from your tristanae.png will automatically push the wave.

Q: How should I use Rocket Jump (W)?


One of the best escapes in the game, it can be easy to get over confident in a variety of ways. The first, is holding it for too long. If you see yourself in a potentially dangerous situation that you do not want to fight, use it immediately. If you don't, you risk it getting cancelled by crowd control such as threshe.png.

Secondly, it's important when you can to take advantage of the reset that tristanae.png provides. Before it detonates use tristanaw.png to slow and gain additional damage than attack once more for the reset. This will allow you additional chasing potential or an escape if necessary.

Finally, it's easy to get carried away in fights when you get a kill or assist and it resets. The biggest mistake you can make is jumping into the enemy team, leaving your team behind you. The enemy team can easily turn on you and burst you down and because you've used your escape you will most likely die.

Level 1-2

  • If you arrive late to lane from leashing, use tristanae.png on one of the melee minions and attack once and it should kill all three. The passive damage tristanae.png will not be enough in most situations.
  • Your power spike at level 2 depends on your support and whether you can detonate your tristanae.png.
  • tristanaw.png can help deal additional damage and detonate but you need to wait until you are one attack away from detonation or you risk going all in and not getting the reset.

Level 3-5

  • Use tristanaq.png on targets with tristanae.png or to clear waves.
  • tristanae.png consumes quite a bit of mana so unless you can get multiple basic attacks in, use it to clear waves with tristanaq.png or wait for ganks. If you have a support such as 89.png or 412.png it is easier to detonate tristanae.png.
  • Be careful when using tristanae.png on towers, because the explosion radius is doubled you will most likely get aggro if it his enemy champions.

  • Use tristanar.png to finish off low enemies or defensively to knock them away.

Level 7-11

  • Once tristanae.png your ability to siege is much better and towers will be easy to take if left undefended.
  • The 2nd level in tristanar.png gives greater damage, which is not that important since it is magical. More importantly it gives extra knockback distance, so save it to save yourself.

Level 12-13

  • tristanaq.png should almost be maxed and your damage output will blitz teams if you are left unattended.
  • You will be the main focus, so prioritize whether you will use tristanaw.png or tristanar.png to defend yourself, keeping in mind that crowd control and interrupt tristanaw.png.

Level 14-18

  • Getting levels in tristanaw.png is negligible at this point as we will use it exclusively as a positioning tool.
  • Remember, NEVER tristanaw.png into the enemy team in cases where you get a pick and have a 5v4 advantage, they can easily turn and kill you.
  • tristanaq.png is extremely powerful but using it immediately may not always be the best option. Think about whether you will be able to auto attack at the start of fights or whether you will get targeted and be forced to play defense first and offense later.
  • Save tristanar.png to knock away, not damage.
  • tristanapassive.png will give you range that rivals and exceeds 51.png at 16 and after. Use this to your advantage when positioning in team fights. tristanae.png and tristanar.png also will have the same range.
