Summoner Spells Back to Top

I personally like to use Exhaust and Ignite, my reason for that is that usually people will engage and try to trade or even get first blood and usually exhaust will leave them dead or wasting a flash.

I like flash but I prefer exhaust top lane and when used for teamfights.

Teleport is optional for enemies that can clear waves faster than you or is a team based champion like Kennen that rely on TP to change the tides of a battle.

To expand on my preference of Exhaust + Ignite: It's faster CD then flash, and as a dueler like Trundle, I rather stay in the fight then run. Exhaust can not only slow but reduce the damage, and ignite is not only a finisher but helps reduce healing in all aspects. If a 2v1 comes along for example and I am at least lvl 6, I will ult the top or jungler who ever is the Tank, and exhaust there damage, while ignite there damage and focusing on the easiest to kill, sometimes I pick the jungler for buffs or easier kill so I'll ignite them. In most cases with these summoner spells and Trundle's kit he can 2v1 and sometimes 3v1.

  • Physical Damage: 20 / 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 (+ 100 / 105 / 110 / 115 / 120% AD)
  • Attack Damage Bonus: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40

trundle-frozen-domain.png

Frozen Domain

Range: 900 Cooldown: 15 Cost: 60 mana

Pillar Slow: 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 / 45%

Subjugate.png

Subjugate

RANGE: 700 Cooldown: 80 / 70 / 60 Cost: 75 mana

Active: Trundle drains the life force out of an enemy champion, dealing magic damage equal to a percentage of their maximum health and healing himself for the same amount, as well as stealing 40% of their armor and magic resist. Half of the health, armor, and magic resist is drained immediately and the other half over the next 4 seconds.700

The armor and magic resist bonus/reduction slowly decays over 4 seconds after the drain completes.

  • Initial Magic Damage / Health Drain: 10 / 12 / 14% (+ 1% per 100 AP) of target's maximum health
  • Magic Damage / Drain per second: 2.5 / 3 / 3.5% (+ 0.25% per 100 AP) of target's maximum health
  • Total Magic Damage / Health Drain: 20 / 24 / 28% (+ 2% per 10)

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

This is your start to getting Blade of the Ruin King.
If you want to play safer, vs ranged and some AP casters that poke.

Core Items

Titanic Hydra is my first item. I focus on Randuin's then or vice versa the Spirit Visage, Sterak's Gage Then Deadman's Plate.

Situational Items

Blade of the Ruin King first, Spirit Visage second, Randuins or Deadman's next, Triforce last, but sometimes ill grab the phage.
This item for people like Mundo, Garens, and anyone else with alot of sustain.
    AP Heavy Team
AD Heavy. You can opt to switch out one piece of armour for spirit visage for trundles kit. If i had to choose it would most likely be the thornmail or sunfire.

VS

Aatrox

Easy

Someone who can really sustain is not really a problem for Trundle, but his passive is a sure bait for most people, as long as you don't get caught in his slows and his ult you shouldn't have much problems in winning your lane. Beware though if you get caught you should disengage and wait out his ult. I'd recommend Exhaust and Ignite when facing Aatrox. If you can save your ignite for after his passive you can usually secure the kill.

Executioners calling, is a recommended item for countering this sustain.

VS

Braum

Easy

I guess some people think they can play Braum like Alistar, the only problem with this is that Braum has no damage early and mid, and won't compete with trundle late. Braum has good cc, but Trundle doesn't care, merc treads, bortk, randuins, exhaust (if you brought it) is going to slow down braum more then he can stun you. Dodge his Q's even if you outscale him, don't take damage you don't need to take if you can avoid it. His W is only good for getting away, and you can wait for him to use it before you pillar him. Braum ults can be avoided but if not, you can still catch up with pillar.

Note if the jungler comes to gank, Ult braum, focus jungler, then braum, as braum has no damage and will be your tank.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

Whether he is going full AP or Off tank AP he's just another meal for Trundle, if you can dodge his Q you pretty much have a free Cho'gath waiting for you to take down. His Q is his only escape and chase, after that you can tear into him.

VS

Darius

Easy

Darius is one of my favourite top champions to play so I know the in's and out's of this champion. There is two things you can do but i highly recommend the first other then the later. One is to bait out his Q, if you played Darius long enough to know the range of his outer ring then you can bait him, and then go in for your Q, don't try trading if you're soaking the outer ring, inner ring you can trade well. Another thing to bait out on Darius is his E, if you can make him waste that before you go engage then you don't have worry about getting pulled and letting him combo you. Pre-6 you can out trade if you dodge his skills, post 6 should be no problem for Trundle.

I run exhaust and ignite, but you can run what you think is best for you.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Medium

Pre-6 you can easily kill mundo as long as you're good at dodging his Q's, Post-6 he becomes a small problem with his ult that gives him a huge burst of regen, but sometimes you can still get the kill you just have to keep dodging the Q's and keep the harassing up.

VS

Fiora

Medium

New Fiora is just as if not more deadly then the old Fiora. Her passive can really strong if she can hit those vital areas, her Q is good at chasing and escaping, so save your E for after she Q's or escaping. Watch out for her W, if you Q her or even ignite, it will block it and you will end up losing out on the trade. Try to fake her E and then go back in to trade. When she Ults you W out, and pillar for distance, don't try to trade, you might come out on top, but you will take damage for no reason, once her ult is gone, you then can jump in when all your skills are back on cd, and all in.

I recommend if you feel like shes doing to much damage, get cutclass then get armour, then finish your botrk.

VS

Garen

Easy

As long as you can get away from his spins you usually can out trade him, and out sustain him, with botrk, randuins and your E most cases he cant outrun you and his Q won't come up fast enough to escape every slow, as long as you can poke with your Q so his passive stays down, you are sure to come out on top, and keep Garen from the bushes.

Try to fake out his Q by running up to him, when he Q's back off, then re-initiate with your  Q, not only will you out trade him, but he wasted his Q as an escape from one of your slows and he can't silence you or trade hits.

VS

Irelia

Medium

This is a pretty close match up but if you play smart you're coming out on top. Early game you can't really out trade her or trade even, play safe, if she Q, E, W's you, simply Q her to get a slow and walk away, never trade with her W let it go on cooldown. Pre-6 you're going to be playing safe, 6 and after you can turn the tides with your ult. I bring Exhaust and Ignite to cut that damage in half an a extra slow, and ignite to cut that healing off.

1v1 you should be able to take her, 2v1 there side will be hard but you might be able to pull off a kill before you die, and 2v1 your side you won't have a problem.

VS

Jax

Medium

Pre-6 Jax is fairly easy to beat, lvl 1 firstblood most the times with exhaust + ignite,  and sometimes he will waste flash or die and waste flash. Post-6 you have to watch his AA's make sure you're not getting hit on the 3rd one for extra damage, try to bait his stun even though he will jump you anyway its something you can sometimes get away with. With your ult, sustain and Q, you should be able to trade most the time and then if he sticks around 7/10 you come out on top.

VS

Jayce

Medium

Jayce is like pantheon in a way that he will poke you out of lane as much as possible Pre-6. Do your best to avoid his E+Q combo and you should be able to play safe while still matching him in cs or just under or above, you can take some aa's from Jayce and still cs because of your passive, and when you get any lifesteal such as cutclass, or bortk you will have no worries. If you choose to engage try to make him use knock back first so don't have to worry about him escaping, if he engages you, again, wait out his knock back because 9/10 times you're going to out trade him after 6.

Dodge E+Q combo, bait knockback, win lane. Exhaust and Ignite for me, you can use what you like.

VS

Kayle

Easy

If you time when her slow and E are on CD you can usually chomp her down, once you get in she can't really get out, and with Ignite and Ult her Ult doesn't let her live long enough.

Merc Treads and Spirt Visage is a must.

VS

Malphite

Easy

Malphite is like a gold mine for you for MR and Armour, his damage isn't that strong, it's a pretty stable lane for each side, but with a good gank or his initiation you usually come out on top. Otherwise you both are waiting for team fight to see who will bring more to the table.

VS

Nautilus

Easy

Early game its pretty even in terms of slows and damage, his W is great for soaking Trundle's Q and giving it out as well, so bait the W's, then engage after it wears off. His grab is a decent escape except for one flaw vs Trundle, it has to hit something for it to connect, if it's terrain on the map then you can pillar him and trap him in. His slows can match Trundle's even with Randuins and Botrk and Exhaust, but you come out on top for the CD on your ult, you can use it more then he can ult you. Mid game it's slightly in your favor, and late its all you baby.

Dodge W's and E's, Ult and go.

VS

Nidalee

Medium

A good Nidalee will poke you and use her mobility against you abilities to lock her down. Early game she can poke you well enough, but for trade to trade, you will come out on top. At level 2, if she takes heal, then it becomes slightly in her favor with the heals and attack speed increase. I find that if you force and dodge majority of her abilities and wait for her to change out of cougar form you have a little bit of time to engage before she can go back and jump (W) out of potential lock downs, forcing flash or trying to escape. Pre-six it can go either way, it's fair fight. Level 6 you start to get scary and nidalee is forced to use her mobility for escaping rather then poking. Again trade, and wait to E an engage when she changes back from cougar form.

Executioners calling is an option, but I don't recommend it as she will heal at a distance making the item almost useless. The best way to counter her mobility is to build mobility and more lock downs, Ex: Randuins, BoTRK, Phage, Deadman's Plate. Avoid the marks if possible unless you can use that to bait her in and then engage.

VS

Pantheon

Hard

His early game is really annoying, the stuns and bursts you can't do much until you hit 6 and help from ganks. Luckily panth usually falls off late game where trundle doesn't. Recommend early armour, and health.

VS

Rek'Sai

Easy

Rek Sai has some good damage, but Trundle can out trade easily. Dodge her W's if you can, and avoid the Q's also, if you get knocked up Q and walk away, she will Q right after and you want avoid soaking damage if possible. pre-6 you can first blood or get a kill, after 6 you're laughing, you out scale her in everyway.

Avoid, her knock and Q's and watch out for her E when full fury, try to let it go down, it does do some decent true damage. Exhaust and Ignite for me, and you can take whatever you feel is suitable as always.

VS

Renekton

Easy

As long as you can understand Renekton's burst you will understand your timing when to engage and disengage. At lvl 1 you can usually get first blood and start to scale from there while playing safely. Ganks are helpful but once you reach lvl 6 you can start to roll your lane and Renekton. Bait his stuns, let him use his gap closer (E) before you pillar and use your ult when he ults, and 9/10 you are coming out on top.

VS

Ryze

Medium

Ryze is a champion you have to really play safe against his poke will make you turtle and you can't really do much until you at least get lvl 6, merc treads and a spirit visage, after that you can trade, and if you play right come out on top, ryze may be a harasser and ranged but hes still a mage and not that tanky compared to you. Ignite for his ult is a must, teleport possibly since you will be knocked out of lane a lot, or flash and teleport.

VS

Shaco

Easy

This champion may have evasion and deception but sustain is something Shaco is missing and he will need it against Trundle. Evade his boxes, and chomp his life away, you can manage to get first blood 9/10 times. Once you reach lvl 6 you can mark him with your ult knowing when he ults which is the real one to pick off.

VS

Shyvana

Medium

This lane go can either way but in most cases it goes in Trundles way, with shyvana building any type of tank items it only benefits trundle more, if you dodge her E she can't do that magic damage and all she has is her W that you can disrupt and your Q out does hers. Dueling is pretty close but you mostly come out on top.

VS

Teemo

Medium

Though teemo is ranged and will harass you, you can usually turtle pre-6 then usually snowball from MR, your ult and a cutlass/botrk. Ganks are really nice to help you snowball as well. Rush merc treads, and spirit visage. I start sword and 3 pots, but if you feel like you need more MR at the start get the mantle and 1 pot.

Based on the matchup I had with IcyPhoenix (guide is in the change logs) This is a close match up that can go your way or not based on positioning and tactics. pre-6 you can really only turtle, 6 you will most likely get first blood, post-6 it's all about position and how to engage and disengage. When Teemo get frozenmallet it's going to be hard to decide whether to fight or flight, and in most cases it's fight and try to come out on top when he's trying to poke while you try to catch him. I recommend waiting for all summoner spell and abilities before going all in, otherwise wait until you do. Dodge as many shrooms as possible while still keeping as close as possible. save your slows when he disengages or risk dying. this build is one of the best to go against Trundle any other that focuses on shroom damage or attack speed, you will come out on top.

VS

Tryndamere

Easy

Tyrndamere is someone that can either get really lucky with crits or unlucky in trading your Q's and AA with his AA's. Tyrndamere's weakness is slows so let him use his E before you use your pillar, keep harassing him so he using his rage for his Q losing the extra crit/dmg. Consider exhaust and ignite the exhuast is great to reduce his dmg as well as slow him down and ignite to make sure his ult doesn't keep him alive. Early game 9/10 you will roll your lane causing Tryndamere to lose cs and fall far behind which will benefit you and your team mid to late game.

VS

Wukong

Easy

All Wukong has is evasion and that won't even save him from Trundle, you out damge, out tank, out sustain and everything else compared to Wukong. Even his ult doesn't do enough damage to you, but I wouldn't recommend taking any more damage then you need to. No need to be reckless.

Introduction Back to Top

Welcome to my Trundle guide. This is my first guide so bare with me please and sorry for any lacking information, will update when I learn more. I played a lot of trundle and figured I'd share my Trundle and listen to any criticism and feedback.

I think and feel that Trundle is an under rated as a champ and underplayed, which honestly I prefer because a lot people don't know how to deal with him and are confused when they get rolled. I love playing Trundle and only want to learn more strategies and game play with him and in turn share with everyone who also see Trundle for who he is.

Still need to update with more champion match-ups, I prefer to play real matches and put them on here when the game is still fresh in head, so i can go into as much detail as possible. Trundle took me to gold, and I hope only to go higher with Trundle.

Note: Sometimes the matchups don't save for some reason, so please bare with me if it's not there, if you have a matchup you're curious about please leave a comment and I'll do my best to get an outcome for you.

Thanks for all reading and hopefully giving the guide a try. I will be making more guides when I finish this one.

The Story of Trundle: Lane To End Back to Top

I start Trundle with 1036_32.png and 3 2003_32.png and my trinket. When I get to lane I focus on getting all the monies while trading with my Chomp and harass all day while keeping up with my CS (creep score). If I have exhaust and Ignite I can usually get first blood by harassing with my Q and auto attacks. Level 2 I get my E and keep focusing on CS while harassing. When I go back i grab 1053_32.png or 3144_32.png if I have enough gold. When I reach level 3 I get my Q again and start harassing harder and pushing my opponent out of lane causing them to lose CS and having to recover. Level 4 I get my W and really start making some plays. If i have enough gold I go and buy 3153_32.png  push my lane to there tower and take it down if possible. When i get to level 6 that is when everything goes your way usually, wait for them to blow all there skills and wait for them to go on cooldown and then go in with harassing with Q and as they begin to leave use E to trap them and use 3.png, W and keep Q and AA's on the opponent, if he manages to get out use R if you haven't already, tend to wait to make sure if they wasted there escapes or flash. with 3153_32.png active and 14.png can usually secure the kill and push the tower down. Once that happens it's up to you if you want to bully your opponent more and take the second tower or go mid and help gank and take there tower, and that will be around the mid game mark (15-20min).

Late game as the game progresses and gold is collected aim for 3065.png, 3111_32.png, and finishing 3143.png.
When we get into team fights peel for carries while harassing there carries. They're a few ways to accomplish this and one scenario is use E to trap or lock someone or a few people down and engage on them and tear them apart or use pillar to disengage anyone going on carries using 3143.png active that will slow down any pursuers and focus on soaking the damage and handing it out, In these situations use my R on the tankiest person to gain the most from that person and use it against them. once we are in a team fight that isn't moving throw down W and start taking people down.

End game my items usually consist of 3065_32.png3742.png3143.png3053.png3153_32.png3111_32.png if they are AD heavy  3065_32.png3153_32.png1319.png3110.png3143.png3742.pngor if they are AP heavy 3065.png3111.png3156.png3102.png3153.png3053.png

Once we win the match and at the nexus celebrate with 48_64.png signature dance

Jungle Section Back to Top

This section as it says above is for the Jungle aspect of Trundle only, and with everything you have already read for his top lane, the jungle part won't need to be as detailed. I will talk about items and my jungle route basically.

Alright I've seen a lot of success with Trundle Jungle, and I feel like I can give some insight for anyone that would like or need a reason to play Trundle Jungle.

I start 1041.png and  3 hp pots, I always start red side and go for a level 2 gank. Starting with Q of course and start at Krugs (rock monsters), smite instantly to get the stuns off, then head to read. When you get level 2 at Krugs, grab Pillar or your E, and take red then head top or bot(which ever side you're on). Then gank, run in, but don't E quite yet, you should be able to position yourself to get AA's and Q's for slow, if they escape then E, if they flash early, then E. usually securing a kill or at least wasting flash. then back into the jungle you go, or if you feel strong gank mid lvl 2 same idea. Keep it up and when you're ready to back aim to go for a 3706.png or if you been out long enough get 1403.png. Level 3 you can choose to go W or take another Q, totally optional, I usually go Q for more damage at the start,  having my E doing the most work. Everything else is already been said in the Top section of the guide in terms of items and skill order. The only difference is the 1403.png, and which order if items I get. Which are: 1403.png then 3053.png if im fed, or 3143.png if they have IE and AD, or 3065.png for sustain and MR, they are all good to have first, but whatever you think is best suited at the time, those are the main items, you can then get whatever you life after that, I usually aim for 3068.png and 3748.png and my last two items, and my boots are usually 3111.png or 3047.png.

That concludes the Jungle portion side of my Guide, and will later go in depth much later when I have more time to, but this should give you the general idea of how it works and a better success rate.

3.7.16 - Update items when going against AP or AD heavy teams, as well updated some of the items for the jungle section, still working on more indepth for jungle. Will be adding a support section soon, most likely changing my Top trundle to a General Trundle Guide, when I have it all smoothed out.

3.19.16 - Updated Teemo matchup (Thanks to "IcePhoenix") amazing teemo guide and one of the best matchups I've had ever had dueling against, this guide is a must see and will surprise anyone and everyone http://www.lolking.net/guides/276950

3.23.16 - Update core items, having a better success rate with Titanic Hydra over the Blade of the Ruined King, I like the wave clearing, as well as the new active, also took out the triforce and put back in Sterak's Gage. Blade of the Ruined King is still optional but no longer my core.

3.27.16 - Updated Masteries and Jungle section of the guide.

12.30.17 - Updating new runes, and making changes to the old guide, Inactive for over a year, but I'm back, sorry for the wait!
