Summoner Spells Back to Top

11.png is a must when jungling

4.png I personally prefer Flash for the quick gap-closer, considering your engage is not the best. It allows you to turret dive early without dying, or jumping over walls to get to the enemies.

6.png can be useful if you want to stick to your targets, just make sure you have the room to do so (it's harder to dive with ghost than it is to dive with flash).

12.png Trundle can be a good splitpusher if built accordingly, and if you're going top, it's strongly recommended that you run TP in order to get back to lane fast.

14.png If you want a kill lane top/support, or if you want to shut down some heavy sustained champs (36.png)

3.png As a support, if you want to save your carry.

Masteries Back to Top

Masteries reflect on your playstyle, so you should always pick masteries that match it. Right now I feel like Fervor of Battle into Pure Tank is really strong for Trundle, Undying Grasp vs. melee supports and Bond of Stone vs. ranged supports.

Ferocity - Tons of damage

Choosing that tree allows you to go for higher damage. Recommended for Top/Jg if you're sure you will wreck the enemy.

-I'd usually recommend going for the AS over spell damage.
-25 second CD on feast makes it not viable as a jungler, especially considering you already have sustain from your passive trundlepassive.png. Might be worthwhile as a laner if you're poked a lot (against 133.png117.png...). Otherwise, go Fresh Blood (your Q is an empowered AA).
-Natural Talent can be good for champs that benefits from both AD and AP, but Trundle is not one of those champs. Go Vampirism.
-Bounty hunter can work well for a jungler, but you have to get a lot of kills for it to be relevant (which means, lots of successful ganks). I feel like Double Edge is risky, especially for a melee fighter. Battle Trance is good, since you usually fight over long periods of time, and there is no real setback with that mastery.

-(If going 18 in Ferocity) Battering Blows (as in the name, not because it's bad or because it engages in sexual behavior). Unless you do your blood proud and go full AP troll. Then PIErC1nG Th0UgHTS1!!1!

(If going 18 in Ferocity) You don't go full AD, so Deathfire Touch won't help you as much as it helps AD casters.

Considering you often get low, Warrior's Bloodlust can be useful for clutch fights. You can trick the enemy in being weak and vulnerable, then pop your W, and sustain for DAYS. Pretty situational, and requires your enemy to stay next to you and let you AA them. Bad vs. enemies with disengage.

Fervor of Battle would be your keystone when going full Ferocity. If you go in that tree, you usually want damage, and Fervor gives you just that. The new Fervor of battle grants you up to 60 AD just by attacking enemies: plus your Q, it adds up to approx 100 AD without building any item. Which means you can just build pure tank and still deal tons of damage.

Cunning - Secondary tree only
Trundle is not an assassin. Even though using Cunning tree as a secondary tree may be somewhat worth, I feel like the last masteries and keystones are not that useful for a melee bruiser such as yourself. Get it as a secondary tree for a support, or maybe for a jungler.

-Wanderer allows for faster ganks and more map presence, Savagery allows for faster clears (which also means less damage taken from creeps and more health for ganks). Both are viable. For a support, consider Wanderer.

-You usually gank when allies are present, so Assassin perk ain't that useful, unless you plan on going splitpusher. Pots are not so useful because of your passive, but might be useful for a support. Runic Affinity is average. Secret Stash for support, w/e you fancy for jungler.

-Merciless allows you to execute people. You might want to go Meditation if you have trouble managing your mana and spam too much, or if you're a support.

-Dangerous Game for some extra healing after killing enemy champions (even though your passive should be enough), Bandit if you're a support for the extra $$$. Greenfather Gift can be useful in 3s, but not so good in 5s.

(If going 18 in Cunning) I don't feel like Precision nor Intelligence are that worth. Trundle already has a great late game, I'd rather boost his early game with masteries, so Lethality (armor pen) and *magic pen* (ewww) are not that great. You'll need CDR for tank Trundle, but in that case I strongly recommend going 18 in Resolve Tree, not Cunning. And I'd rather have extra tankiness for Supporgle than some extra 5% CDR (but that's just me).

(If going 18 in Cunning) Stormraider is a utility keystone only viable on squishies, and can be easily replaced by items (3078.png or 3071.png for speed up, 3022.png or 3025.png for slowing down).
Windspeaker's Blessing only applies on allies, and you can't heal/shield allies, so NO.
Thunderlord's Decree is the only viable option, but I don't feel like it's that great.
I strongly recommend mastering another tree.

Resolve - Waifu
When they introduced the new season, Rito wanted to stop the Tank meta, without killing tanks. I feel like this season is more about choices: going tank can still be viable, but you'll have to plan for it and build accordingly. I feel like Tankle is pretty viable. Yes, I am a tank whore.

-If you plan on building resistances (or if you plan on *stealing* resistances), Unyielding would be a good choice. Recovery can still be useful doe, so don't be afraid to take it.

-I'd rather have the extra tankiness from Tough skin. If they can see me from the river, extra 15 movement speed won't be enough to allow me to catch them, and if I'm in the bush, I'm already close enough to be a pain in the butt. Siegemaster doesn't apply near dead turrets, so it's only worth if you're planning on getting your ass kicked (and this is not something you plan for, AMIRITE?)

-50 health is not that great, and you have passive (and maybe purchased) sustain. Runic Armor is usually my favorite.

-Insight reduces Smite recharge or other summoner's CD, and can be paired up with 3158.png for 25% CDR on summoner spells. Somewhat useful, especially for Supporgle. Perseverance, coupled with Runic Armor and your other sustain options, will give you more durability. Fearless can be good, but you have to build pure tank with it, since it's 10% of your bonus armor and MR. Good synergy with your ult.

(If going 18 in Resolve) Swiftness can be good if they have annoying CC, it will allow you to chase for days. Legendary Guardian can give you up to 15 armor and MR in teamfights, + your ult, + Fearless (if you have it), it can be decent. Take what you prefer.

(If going 18 in Resolve)

You can't proc Courage of the Colossus unless you land a perfect pillar to knock up the enemy. If you're a god of pillars, go ahead, but in general I'd recommend something else.

Bond of Stone is more useful to a support, because as a jungler, you don't usually need to protect your teammate when you gank: you want to KILL the enemy laner (or jungler). It might be useful when counter ganking (to save victimized laner) or when you start teamfighting. For a top laner, it only gives you dmg reduction until teamfights, not that worth unless you plan on losing that lane (and you shouldn't plan on losing).

Grasp of the Undying is good for a laner, because it's a free BOTRK active every 4 seconds (and believe me, 4 seconds in a fight is a VERY short time). Gives you damage, gives you extra sustain, and combined with Perseverance, Runic Armor, your passive trundlepassive.png, your ult trundleR.png AND your Frozen Domain trundleW.png, you're up and ready to dispense your love for DAYS to those bad boys out there. Great damaging option for either Top or Support, but keep in mind that it's easier to proc it if facing a melee support (201.png/89.png/44.png/12.png).

First point in Q, then W against melee champ or E against ranged (or if you're expecting a gank from your jungle early). Always max Q first, then W, then E.

Jungle
You might want to place a second point in your Q at level 3 if your laners shoved the wave and no gank is possible. A second point in Q will allow you to clear faster to get your level 4. Always max Q first, then W, then E.

Support
First point in Q, then E, then W. Max E first, then Q, then W. You max Q second to remove AD from the enemy AD carries, assassins or bruisers that comes your way. You won't build damage, so the attack speed won't be that relevant.

VS

Aatrox

Hard

What crazy sustain. If he builds tank you can simply ult him, but since most 266.png I've seen are building full damage and sustain, you likely won't be able to duel him. Just try to force teamfights, and keep your pillar for after he uses his Q. Don't try to fight him after he used his ultimate, he will most likely be able to heal it all off unless your team CC's him/nuke him so fast he dies immediatly. Just peel for your team and try to ult a better tank.

Ninja tabis are recommended in this matchup.

VS

Akali

Medium

She got burst and (usually) won't build tank. Just get some tank of your own so that she can't kill you, then some damage to kill her yourself. Remind your jungler that she's easy to gank with your pillar, esp pre-6.

3211.png->3025.png->3077.png

VS

Amumu

Easy

Annoying if he goes AP, but easy to nuke with a 3153.png. If he goes tank, you can steal his stats.

Early game, he doesnt really have escape moves: he either goes in with his Bandage Toss and tries to get a kill or runs away. You can use your pillar to disrupt his gank and isolate him, then kill him with your team.

VS

Cho'Gath

Easy

Get boots, dodge Q, E him, kill him. Jg can help.

If he goes AP, get some MR. If he goes tank, ult him.

Remember that his ult deals 300/475/650 true damage. 3065.png will help you keep your health up.

VS

Darius

Medium

Can be tricky, you both can snowball. Avoid his Q as much as possible. He's really weak against your pillar, ask your jg for help. Ult early once he hits 6, he can finish you off quickly with his ult if you don't.

VS

Diana

Medium

Troublesome if fed. Play safe early and build MR. Dodge her Qs. Your pillar is great to force her in a fight: ask jg for help if needed.

VS

Dr. Mundo

Easy

He builds pure tank. You steal tank stats. :D

Dodge his Q (tip: try to keep creeps between you and him at all times). Beware of his AA+E combo: if he gets in range to try it, bite him off and step back.

Consider building 3123.png as soon as you have the money to sotp his healing. No need to upgrade it: keep it till late game (and hope that your team build 3165.png/3033.png).

VS

Ekko

Medium

Annoying. You can't really kill him unless he's being cocky. Don't try chasing him: with his ult, his e and his passive, it will be useless. Wait for him to jump you, then E him close to you, then ult him. He should ult away.

Remember to Q when he E to you. Dodge his Q.

If you don't take too much free poke, he shouldn't be able to kill you. Farm it out.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Hard

This guy is annoying. He will probably fear you if you try to walk in melee range. You can't fight him while he is draining you, and he usually doesn't build tank, so ulting him is not very useful. However, his drain and ultimate are channeled abilities, and your pillar can cancel it. Always ward around possible teamfight situations, so you can see him ult and knock him up.

 I suggest running merc threads 3111.png in order to reduce the duration of his fear and silence and 3065.png will give you MR and extra CDR to pop your pillar.

VS

Fiora

Hard

Annoying. Don't let her use her passive. Don't ler her AA-E you. Don't ult her when she parries.

If she ults you, run. Her damage (and healing once she pops you up) will be too high. When her ult is finished, you can fight her with your own ult (I fight her at 25% HP even if she's full health, I usually win as long as I don't let her use her passive).

VS

Fizz

Medium

Annoying. It would be best to build HP against him, since top Fizz usually build AD while having AP abilities. He have poor waveclear: build 3077.png to fck him up. If he uses his E to waveclear, pillar him and kill him.

VS

Gangplank

Hard

Annoying.

He'll Q you from a distance and barrel-bombard you. He can't walk in melee on you though: you'll chomp his ass off. He's somewhat weak against your pillar, so try to get some help from your jg. If not, farm (and try avoiding poke).

Consider 1054.png3047.png and 3143.png if you're having trouble.

VS

Garen

Medium

TROLLMACIA!

First kill gets to snowball. I'd recommend being patient: wait for him Q toward you, then Q him once he's in range. He'll probably stick around while popping his E and W. Then pillard him when all his shit is on CD and weaken him. You shouldn't be able to kill him, but him neither. Ult early, he can finish you off fast with his ult.

VS

Gnar

Hard

Annoying.

Avoid his poke. After he Q, try walking to him to make him use his E. If he does, E behind him and deal a ton of damage. If he doesn't, you're in trouble.

You're one of the only champs who can deal with him in Mega Gnar with your ult. Try not to get ulted in a wall, wait out the CC, then ult him and (try) to kill him.

Best to farm it out and wait for help.

VS

Graves

Medium

He's not that mobile, he shoves a ton and is squishy. Graves is one of the best afk-shove top lane, which makes him really easy to gank (main reason he dropped off the meta: high-elo jg know what to do with them).

You can try fighting him all-in, you might win.

VS

Illaoi

Medium

It's a rough lane, but you outscale.

At lvl 1-5 you should try dodging her Q and E. The Q is not that hard to dodge. Avoid E by staying in groups of creeps.

At lvl 6-10 her ult is scary. She burns mana quickly though. Don't try to fight her, keep your distance and farm as much as you can.

At lvl 11 and onwards, you should beat her 1vs1 if you built duelist. If you built tank, group with your team and ult her in teamfights, so that she gets nuked before her ult start hurting.

VS

Irelia

Medium

Either of you can snowball. Be careful when you have more HP than her, she can stun you. She has AP, she has AD, she has true dmg: build HP. 3748.png could be a good rush if you're fed/even. Yet again, easy gank for your jg with your pillar.

VS

Jarvan IV

Easy

Dodge his E+Q combo, pillar him, shit on him. Can be medium if he's good at landing them, otherwise it's free. He's troublesome when he ults you since you can't escape, but neither can he. Ult him, chomp him. Build HP then armor, his true dmg passive hurts.

3748.png-->3025.png

VS

Jax

Medium
Jg: Similar to Shyvanna. He will outscale you, but he should have a fairly weak early game, and even though you cant duel him, you should be able to outgank him then manage him in teamfights.
I think he is somewhat easier to manage because his ult is basically your ult. He boosts his defensive stats, but then you steal it from him, making you tanky and not him. Just peel really hard and do not attack him while his counter strike jaxcounterstrike.png is up.

Top: same shit, don't attack him while his E is up. Your ult counter his ult. Be careful of double tap (Jax will attack 2 creeps in lane, then Q+W on you with a third strike to deal massive damage in a short time). He's mostly AD dmg with a little bit of AP, build HP+armor items if behind.

VS

Jayce

Hard

CANCER. RITO PLZ WHAT ARE YOU DOING.

He has incredible poke, incredible burst, disengage. There's no trick to beating him 1 on 1. If your jg gank, you can pillar him to kill him, otherwise cry. Build straight armor.

VS

Karma

Hard

Annoying.

She has low cooldown, will snare and poke a lot. Vulnerable to ganks (esp with your pillar). Rush MR and try to get a gank.

3065.png-->3077.png (to clear the wave)

VS

Kayle

Medium

If you can get to her, she dies really fast. Early game you should be able to defeat her fast before she get AP/AS. She'll probably Q+W to disengage from you: a good pillar will give you enough time to reach her. Watch out for creeps that might gang up on you. Ganks could help.

VS

Kennen

Hard

Annoying.

He got good disengage and good poke, your pillar doesn't really hold him down, he can work well even in 1vs2 situations with his ult. Some fckers even build him AD/hybrid. Build MR fast.
3211.png-->3082.png (if AD)

VS

Kled

Easy

I never had trouble against Kled. Your Q destroys him, your E prevents him from running, the only way to really lose this is if you stay in his Q range a lot and only fights when his W is up (don't do that). Just bait out his E then all in, you should win.

VS

Lee Sin

Medium

Skill matchup. Your Q will steal his AD, your W will counter his E, and your pillar will counter his high mobility. If the Lee is good, he will find a way to outplay you, but if he's not, you should have no trouble killing him.

VS

Lissandra

Hard

Not much you can do. She got CC, an escape from your pillar and poke. Build MR and wait for lane to end.

3211.png-->3111.png

VS

Lulu

Medium

Tricky. Dodge Q, bait out W without using pillar, use pillar, fck her up.

3211.png-->3077.png

VS

Malphite

Medium

One of the rare cases where I consider getting 3071.png if fed. You won't be able to AA him because of his E, just build CDR to Q him often instead. He'll probably build full armor: if he does, your ult gives you lots of armor. If he goes AP, get some MR.

3071.png-->3025.png-->3102.png (good vs his ult)

VS

Maokai

Easy

You E him, he can't run. He goes tank, you steal tank stats. 1vs1 none of you should be able to kill each other. You can set up easy ganks for your jg, and as long as you don't stand in his W range without vision, he shouldn't be able to be close enough to W you when the enemy jg ganks. Easy.

VS

Mordekaiser

Medium

Don't let yourself get poked too much (it's tricky). Build MR. Ask for ganks: this guy is insanely strong 1vs1 against a melee, but is incredibly weak to ganks. Remind your jg to come visit, E, kill before he can snowball.

VS

Morgana

Medium

You can't kill her, because running up to her will cause her to land an easy Q. She won't able able to shove efficiently until lvl 4-5. Rush tiamat, then get MR.

3077.png-->3211.png

VS

Nasus

Medium

Annoying. If he's AD you'll win early but fall HARD late. If your jg is good, he'll camp.

You don't want to shove against AD nasus, but can't really have AS either because of his W. Consider 3071.png/3078.png.

If he's AP, he shoves a lot, making him MUCH easier to gank. AP nasus is really squishy too. Get MR and get some help.

3211.png/3077.png

VS

Nautilus

Easy

If he tries to run with Q, pillar him, that'll leave him in place. Easy to gank but really tanky. Ult him in teamfights to kill him fast. If he's the initiator, pillar the enemy team to separate him from his team (giving you more time to kill him).

He might build 3512.png, consider going splitpush or get one yourself to counter it.

VS

Olaf

Easy

One of the main counters to Olaf. He's AD bruiser, so your kit destroys him. The only way for you to lose this lane is 1) getting cheesed lvl 1-2 (when he's really strong) or 2) getting poked for free by his Q. If he walks in to E you, Q him (i think your range is greater).

VS

Pantheon

Medium

His passive blocks your Q. He will probably outdamage you early. However, you will get much stronger than him as you build items.

Avoid 1vs1 early, he will outdamage you. In 2vs2 situations, try to isolate him from his laner by using your pillar, then focus him with your own laner.

VS

Poppy

Easy

Trundle is considered the main counter for Poppy in LCS. Your E prevents her from running or engaging (after she E). She's pure AD, so your Q is strong. You don't have dashes, so her W is useless. You steal her stats. Nuff said.

You can just farm this lane out knowing you will wreck her later on.

VS

Quinn

Medium

Annoying.

Bait out her E without using your pillar (just run at her). Then use pillar. Then fck her up.
Can be a hard matchup, I'm placing medium because I've done it so many times (and top Quinn players are cocky, so this strat works 24/7). Warn your mid when she's MIA, she's really fast.

VS

Rammus

Easy

Steal his stats (including his W stats). Pillar him when he tries to Q. Not much of a threat. He'll likely go Thornmail: if you want AD, build life steal (if you build pure tank, you won't deal too much damage to yourself).

VS

Rek'Sai

Easy

She used to be a pain. Now she's just meh.

If she goes AD, you can kill her 1vs1 with your ult and Q. If she goes tank, you can steal her stats. Once she goes in, she only has her tunnels to go away, and your pillar can force her out of a tunnel. Isolate and kill her.

VS

Renekton

Medium

Tricky. First to kill gets to snowball.

Play safe till you get a few items (and a gank if possible). If he E to you to deal his W+Q combo, wait till he E away, then use your pillar. With all his skills on CD, he's a sitting duck. Consider armor if you're behind.

VS

Rengar

Easy
Jg: This guy can be annoying, especially when he's chasing. Don't allow him to chase: you can kill him 1vs1. DO NOT use your pillar on him while he is in a bush: he can just jump righ over it and on your face. Wait until he jumps on you in an open field, then stand your ground, steal his AD, ult him, and start hammering. After a while he will try to run away in a bush to apply his passive. Use your pillar to prevent him from going back in the bush and kill him. Get 3047.png.
Top: He'll likely sit in the bushes Use your pillar to prevent him from going back in the bush and kill him.

VS

Riven

Medium

Easy to medium, she's pure AD and you steal AD. Try to poke her with your Q as soon as it's up. Stay out of range from her third Q. If she uses her E to land third Q, pillar her and shit on her while her CDs are down. If she plays safe,you shouldn't be able to kill her, but since most rivens are cocky, she probably won't unless you're fed.

VS

Rumble

Medium

Medium to hard. He's good 1vs1 into melee, so you might need help from your jg. He have nothing against your pillar. Don't stay in his ult and build MR.

3211.png-->3077.png

VS

Shaco

Medium

He is pretty much a beast early, so unless he messes up, you're going to lose early. You will be stronger in the late game both as a splitpusher and as a teamfighter, so just try not to feed and help your team ward till late game.

VS

Shen

Medium

None of you should be able to kill each other. He's a tank so you'll steal his stats, but his W prevents you from attacking him. Farm it out. Consider a tiamat to shove him in (punish him for using his ult/tp). NOTE: use your E if you see him ult, it will cancel it!

3077.png-->3211.png

VS

Shyvana

Medium

She is one of the few junglers who can outscale you. However, she is MUCH weaker than you early, and her ganks are not really good. Gank as much as you can early to get your team ahead, she shouldn't be able to keep up with your pressure. Do not be afraid to camp a lane in order to get the enemy team tilted (but make sure that all your lanes are winning or even - do not put all your eggs in one basket!)

If you manage to get your team ahead, you should win the teamfights even if she becomes bigger than you. Once she ults your team, ult her and isolate her from the enemy team with your pillar. Then nuke her ASAP before she can kill your whole team!

VS

Singed

Medium

Don't chase. Ult to steal his stats. He can only run, so your pillar is good against him. None of you should be able to kill each other.

VS

Sion

Easy

Main counter. His Q crypticgaze.png can be cancelled by your E trundleE.png, and since your pillar is an obstacle, it will block his ult cannibalism.png and stun him. If he stacks resistances, your ult will steal it all, if he stacks health, a 3153.png will destroy him, and you cancel 2 of his abilities with your E, making him a poor AD Sion.

VS

Skarner

Easy

All he does is run around. Your pillar prevents him from reaching his target or running away. You outdamage him, and if he tries to go tank you just steal his stats.

VS

Swain

Hard

Get boots to run from his shit and build MR. Swain is strong in 1vs1 against melee, but really vulnerable to ganks. Your pillar is strong against him.

3111.png-->3211.png (consider 3123.png)

VS

Tahm Kench

Medium

Medium to hard. I love Tahm, so I'm biased, but I don't think it's possible to lose lane with the frog against a melee (unless you mess up real bad). However he's weak against the pillar, and he's usually pure tank, so your ult works great. Your E can prevent his ult.

Don't let him get 3 stacks on you. Build MR and waveclear.

3077.png-->3211.png

VS

Teemo

Hard

His Q is strong against you, since you only have AA. But your E slows him bad. 3364.png to disable his shrooms, ask for jg: if no ganks, get MR/AD (depending on his build) and farm. He doesn't have waveclear.

3211.png-->3077.png or 3082.png

VS

Tryndamere

Easy

Gets troublesome if fed, but unless you mess up, he shouldn't. Q him as much as possible. Wait till he use his E before using your pillar. You can use your ult to kill him when there's only a few seconds left on his ult. Consider building lifesteal, he will outsustain you.

VS

Vladimir

Hard

Not much you can do against him, he can pool (W) under your turret. If he messes up and use his W, mess him up, if not, might have to build MR.

Once he get lvl 8 he'll place point in his E for waveclear: get a tiamat at that moment.

3211.png-->3077.png (and consider 3123.png)

VS

Volibear

Easy

All he does is run around. Your pillar prevent him from reaching his target or running away. You outdamage him, and if he tries to go tank you just steal his stats.

VS

Wukong

Easy

His main combo is E+Q, then W to run away. Once he reappears, you can pillar him and deal damage while he's on CD. He shouldn't be able to kill you post 6, unless fed. Get some armor if you're behind. He has no built-in wave clear, but buys tiamat often, so get one yourself to shove him in.

VS

Xin Zhao

Medium

Easy-med. Has burst, can be tricky, but you stomp him at 6. Can't run from your pillar, call your jg for a free kill. You steal his AD, has no waveclear unless he builds tiamat, so get one yourself and shove him in.

VS

Yasuo

Easy

Never lost that lane, no matter how skilled the Yasuo is. Don't stand in his Q range. You steal his AD. You have no projectile, so his wind wall is useless. When ganked, he has to run to turrets (without creeps to dash to), so your pillar mess him up. He shouldn't be able to kill you.

VS

Yorick

Hard

Still can't understand this champ. Tons of damage, tons of tankiness. Annoying.

He's probably gonna be a splitpusher, get 3077.png and some armor maybe? Weak to your pillar.

Introduction Back to Top

Hello! I am JaxenGrumpy, I'm currently in Diamond 3, and I main bruisers/tanks. I usually play in top lane or jungle, Vlad being my main laner and Trundle being my main jungler.

I've been playing Trundle since S3, after his rework. He has always been one of the most predominant junglers in my champion pool. Having poor champ mechanics, I always relied more on shot-calling or punishing the enemy's poor positioning in order to carry my games.  Trundle is a champ that excels at this, having great split-pushing and dueling abilities as well as a ranged Randuins that can be used to isolate target enemies.

I've been playing him in the top lane since the beginning of S6 and occasionally as a support, and I do feel that he might be somewhat stronger in these positions as tank junglers are somewhat starting to fall off.

This is the first guide I have made, so I would really like it if you could help me improve it or give me reconstructive feedback. Also, please remember that English is not my first language, so if you see any mistakes, please signal them to me and I shall correct them as soon as possible. I will do my best to make it the best guide available!

Why Trundle? Back to Top

Trundle is an interesting champion in that he can either be a tank, a DPS or a bruiser depending on how you build him. He is one of the best duelists in the game and/or one of the best tanks. Itemization is key on him, and if done right, it can really be a game changer.

Pros:
  • Good damage
  • Amazaing sustain
  • Can get tanky off the enemy team
  • Lots of viable build options
  • Not so hard to play

Cons:
  • Somewhat drops mid-game
  • Item dependant, so he falls off if he gets behind
  • His ult is not as useful if there is no tank in the enemy team

Skills Back to Top

trundlepassive.png: Your passive. Each time a unit dies, you immediately regain health for a percentage of the enemy's health. Free pots if you're laning, and combined to your trundleW.png W - Frozen domain, gives you great sustain in the jungle.
-Insane sustain after killing dragon/baron. If you're getting low but the epic monster is almost dead, consider clearing it for instant health pack.
-If you've sustained heavy poke, or were bursted at the beginning of a teamfight but managed to survive, clear a jungle camp really fast. You'd be amazed with how much health you can gain back.

trundleQ.png: Empowered physical attack, grants you an AD buff while removing AD from the enemy hit, and also applies a 90% slow for 1 second. Your bread and butter, spam it as much as you can. Just remember that your Q resets your AA, so use it right after you've landed an attack. Try to use it on AD champs to debuff them (but don't be shy to use it on AP champs too!)

trundleW.png: Creates a zone that increase your movement speed and attack speed. You also increase healing effects by 20%. Try to use it before slaying blue or red in order to regen more life. Be careful about where you place it: the enemy team can see it too! Can be bad since they will use it to know your position and/or counter jungle.
Jungle tip: this also increases the regen from your pots, so after you clear your first camp and start doing red/blue, pop your W and a pot at the same time. You'll heal for 20% more that way.

And now, time for the cranky jokes...

trundleE.png: The Pillar of Ice, the Map-Shatterer, the Frozen Representation of Manliness! An icy dildo rises from the earth harder and stronger than you in the morning, allowing you to block terrain, slow all enemies walking around it and even knocking up the unlucky champions who stood right next to it (I would also jump in the air if some giant ice shard suddenly popped from the ground to probe my ass). This is your main utility skill, and pretty much your only gap closer, so be careful with when and how you use it.
-Use it behind them so that they get knocked up towards you;
-Wait for them to get close to walls, turrets or other natural obstacles so auto-pathing will send them back in your maws;
-Save it for after they have flashed, if possible (but at least use it once if you gank);
-If the enemy jungler is also there, use it to isolate the enemy champ with lowest mobility. The enemy will be slowed by the pillar: your team will not. Cast it between the enemy jungler and enemy laner in order to prevent them from joining together, and slowing them both if they do get close to each other.
-I have never seen 429.png or 203.png been able to jump over it, and 15.png can't spellshield it (bitches love the pillar);
-Use it to proc a Yasuo ultimate;
-This bad boy also gives you vision, so don't facecheck that bush. Erect from it.

trundleR.png: Steal HP, steal armor, steal MR. You can either use this to duel an enemy, nuke a single squishy target (making all their resistances void) or use it on a tank when focused in teamfights (to steal all the good stats and survive).

Itemization Back to Top

3706.png vs 3715.png vs 3711.png

-I feel like stalker 3706.png is good for Trundle, considering he needs to stick to his enemies in order to do damage.
-Skirmisher 3715.png gives you amazing dueling capabilities, especially if used with  trundleR.png Subjugate, but I recommend purchasing 3022.png3025.png3071.png or 3078.png or else they'll just run away from you.
-Tracker 3711.png can be good to set up vision, so it can be useful against early game powerhouses (20.png35.png64.png) to limit the damage they can do (to prevent both ganks or invades). Gives you less fighting power.

3709.png or 3707.png or 3710.png

I feel like Devourer 3930.png is pretty strong right now if coupled with AS items such as 3153.png (plus giving you TONS of HP% damage) or with the Fervor of Battle Keystone. Makes you pretty squishy though, so preferably take that route if the enemy has a good tank for you to ult or if you're stomping them.

Cinderhulk 1401.png is good as a tank option, and since the new meta increased the effectiveness of tank items for pure tank (3025.png3075.png), this will allow you to get even tankier.

 Warrior 3707.png will give you a really strong early game, but I feel like this enchantment is stronger on assassins/divers such as 64.png254.png80.png or 107.png. It won't be as beneficial for Trundle late game.

3153.png or 3025.png

Must-have damage option on Trundle. Both allows you to stick to your targets and deals a lot of damage. I'd recommend going 3153.png with 3930.png3931.png3932.png and going 3025.png with 1401.png1413.png1409.png.

3047.png or 3111.png (or 3009.png or 3158.png?)

Do they have a lot of non-knock up CC/AP champs? If yes, go Merc 3111.png. If not, go 3047.png3009.png can be good if you need mobility or if they have few hard CC but lots of slows, and 3158.png can be good for supports, coupled with the right mastery.

Itemization

You must pick your items carefully when playing Trundle. How is the game going? What prevents you from winning?

Damage

If you are destroying the enemy team but your teammates are leaning on your back, go for some damage options. I love 3078.png since your Q has a low cooldown, allowing you to use the Spellblade passive rapidly. Just don't take it if you went 3025.png.  3074.png/3748.png will give you crazy sustain, and 3071.png can be used if lots of enemies are stacking armor.
The AP from 3124.png doesn't help you much, but since this item deals A LOT of damage while also boosting your attack speed, you might want to take it. Good synergy with 3930.png 3931.png 3932.png

Armor

I like to go 3742.png, since it will allow you stick to your enemies and since you don't have any gap-closers. If the enemy team has lots of AA-based champs, consider 3075.png (or 3110.png if no one on your team has it and you're not busting 40% CDR). 3143.png can be useful against crit teams (41.png157.png23.png).

Magic resistance
If you need MR, you can go 3065.png to increase your sustain (but don't bust your 40% limit CDR). 3102.png is useful versus bursty assassins or people with annoying spells (45.png7.png). 3105.png/3190.png if no one on your team has it.  3156.png gives you some resistances and sustain when you're low while also giving you damage options.

Other

3026.png or 3053.png

Both are useful when you're the main focus of the enemy team, but in this meta I'd strongly recommend going 3053.png. I feel like 3053.png is stronger right now because the cooldown is shorter than 3026.png3053.png also increase your base damage, which means 3078.png and 3025.png will deal even more damage.

 3512.png is nice to have when splitpushing, even though its more of an utility item.

If you think your ult gives you enough resistances, consider going for some HP. 3022.png if you need to chase, 3083.png if you're getting poked a lot, or 3748.png if you need damage but still want to be tankier.

Other items can be viable based on the situation, such as 3800.png or 3056.png.

Top lane Back to Top

Your passive will give you great sustain as the creeps die around you. Don't forget to use your Corrupting Potion 2033.png as soon as a skirmish start in order to deal increased damage.

Recommended build: tank
Recommended keystone: Grasp of the Undying

Against melee:
Spam your Q on the enemy laner as much as you can, and AA him as soon as your Grasp of the Undying is up. Get W at level 2 in order to deal even more damage.

Against ranged:
You want to get tanky ASAP, so build resistance based on the enemy laner's damage, don't spam your abilities too much, DON'T GET POKED TOO MUCH, and pray for a gank. If there is no ganks, here are some tips:
-If you're facing a pokey champ (like Lulu 117.png), dodge the skillshots as best as you can and wait for her to get OOM.
 Then jump on her and kill her.
-If you're facing a champ with annoying disengage (such as Quinn 133.png), use your W to get close to her and force her to E quinnE.png away. Go back to your lane to stack up your Q, wait for her to get closer, then E trundleE.png behind her and she's dead/flashed out.

Against AD:
Get Frozen Fist 3025.png for great synergy with your Very Cold Dildo trundleE.png. Slows for days!
Against AP: Rush 3211.png, consider upgrading it if you're still suffering from heavy magic damage (3065.png/3102.png).

If you're fed/even in lane:
You might consider getting 3748.png for a better wave clear and damaging option. This will mean however that it will delay your resistance items. I'd consider getting it if you're laning against a tank (in which case you can steal their resistances), or if you're really crushing the enemy squishy.
If you're skipping Hydra, grab 3057.png as soon as you have the gold for it (1050G). You can also grab other damaging options, such as 3071.png3078.png3156.png3053.png, etc.

Late game builds:
Your core items will be:
3025.png3742.png or 3143.png3211.png

-If you build 3071.png, get 3102.png. If not, get 3065.png.
-I like getting 3075.png and 3083.png as last items. However, change your build according to the enemy team!

Full build (tank):
3025.png3742.png3065.png3075.png3083.png + boots (or other item, such as 3026.png)

Full build (bruiser)
3748.png3025.png3065.png3742.png or 3143.png3075.png or 3026.png + boots

Full build (DPS)
3074.png3078.png3053.png3742.png3026.png + boots (or other item)

Here are some other options:

3074.png/3748.png as a AOE AD damage option;
3078.png/3153.png for dueling/splitpushing
3143.png against heavy crit champs (41.png/23.png/157.png)
3068.png if you're having trouble against an hybrid/true dmg champ, making 3025.png a useless item
3190.png/3060.png cheap tank items
3022.png if no 3025.png and you need extra chasing power
3124.png if you're fed (AP is useless, but the other stats are good)
3512.png/3800.png/3026.png depending on the situation

On boots

You have 2 options for a top laner:
-3047.png if they have fed AD/ lots of AA champs.
-3111.png if they have a lot of AP or CC.
-3009.png got nerfed, not sure they are still viable.
You can also get 3006.png if you're going for a damaging build, or 3158.png if you want extra CDR, but that's irregular.
Now that enchantments have been removed, it can also be viable to replace boots by another item, as 2138.png+MR item can replace 3111.png and 3742.png can replace 3047.png. It's your call.

Full builds

Fighter

3074.png, boots, 3025.png3065.png3026.png or 3512.png3083.png2138.png (possible to sell boots for 3742.png)

We see lots of competitive players pick up this core build (3074.png/3025.png/3065.png), you can complete with 2 items of your choice. Allows you to clear really fast and do a lot of damage, but you won't be as tanky (which means less relevant in teamfights.

Note: Replaces 3025.png with 3078.png  for even MOAR damage!

Tank

3748.png3025.png, boots, 3742.png3065.png3075.png2138.png  (possible to sell boots for 3026.png)

Thornmail, DMP and Titanic Hydra (compared to Ravenous) gives you stronger teamfight potential. Also possile to replace Gauntlet with 3071.png if you're ahead and facing a tank, since you'll be able to get your resistances from ulting him.
The item replacing your boots could be 3026.png3083.png3512.png... Based on what you need.

DPS

3153.png, boots, 3074.png3742.png3065.png3026.png2140.png or 2138.png (possible to replace boots for 3078.png)

LOTS of sustain with a little bit of survivability. Highly recommended for splitpush only. Possible to replace 3065.png by 3156.png or 3053.png for higher damage output, but lower tankiness.

Jungle Back to Top

There's not much to add other than what I wrote in the Ability section, so refer to that if you need help on how to gank.

Here are some building options that I like (even though Holy Damage option is more for fun in normal than for actual ranked games), but of course many other options are viable.

Holy Damage / Splitpusher
3930.png3153.png3078.png3053.png3026.png, boots or 3742.png

Balanced damage

3930.png, boots, 3153.png3742.png3065.png3075.png (then consider selling boots for another item, such as 3026.png)

Balanced tank

1413.png, boots, 3022.png3153.png,  3065.png3075.png (then consider selling boots for 3742.png)

Another balanced tank

3715.png3025.png, boots,  1413.png3071.png3053.png3026.png (with 40% CDR for trundleE.png + 3025.png + 3071.png, you don't need mobility that much. Consider getting any damage or tank item you need in order to win, such as 3156.png3026.png, etc.)

Pure tank (my favorite right now)

3077.png,  1413.png, boots, 3025.png3748.png3065.png and 3143.png,  (then consider selling boots for 3742.png)

Boots options
3-4 viable options:
-3047.png if they have a lot of AA champs.
-3111.png if they have heavy CC champs.
-3009.png if neither of the above is true.
-3117.png if you need lots of mobility early on, I feel like these boots lose efficiency once teamfights start, especially considering you can get kitted quite easily. If you wanna go fast, I'd recommend swifties 3009.png.

You might consider selling your boots to buy other movement speed items (such as 3742.png).

I feel like the strongest jg path right now is getting 3077.png on your first recall no matter what. You have enough sustain with 1041.png to keep farming till you have it. Follow up with 1413.png, then get 3025.png and 3748.png (order doesn't really matter, if you have gold for instant sheen, get Iceborn, if not, get Titanic). Complete with tank items (3065.png and 3143.png, for instance).
With Fervor of Battle keystone, this build gets you:
-up to 100 AD (60 from Fervor + 40 from Q trundleQ.png), sheen damage (3025.png), AA upgraded AOE damage (3748.png, scales with HP), bonus damage from Smite (3715.png/3706.png) and DoT damage from 1413.png/1401.png.
-1850 bonus HP + cinderhulk (over 4k HP), over 200 armor, MR ranging from 120 to 150 (more with 3111.png), and 30% CDR. That's without your ultimate, and the masteries that you might want to take (up to 15% increase).
-Is viable with any choice of boots

Support Back to Top

-If you're getting low, health regen from 3302.png + your passive will allow you to heal back to full health in a very short amount of time.
-You are an all-in engage support, pretty much like Leona 89.png. If you go in, it's gonna be hard to get out without sustaining heavy poke.
-Your pillar trundleE.png is an obstacle. You can use it to set up stuns for 78.png or 67.png. You can also use it to cut escape routes from opponents, allowing for easier burst/poke from your ADC.

As for itemization, there's lots of way to approach this.

-Start with 3302.png for the sustain. You can either get 3x2003.png (if they have lots of poke) or 2031.png that you can later upgrade in 2033.png if you're fed.
-Get flat tanky with 2303.png and save space to build more items;
-Get 3401.png and 2049.png if you need to save your carries from pesky assassins;
-If you're fed, you can consider damaging tank options (3025.png/3068.png/3742.png);
-If you're not fed, you can still build utility tank (3190.png/3109.png/3110.png/3050.png/3222.png);
-If you want MOAR GOLD and side lane pressure (3060.png/3512.png) (consider building early to get full build faster)
-And always consider the good ol' straight tank items (3143.png/3065.png/3102.png/3075.png/3083.png);
-Consider going at least 1 mana item, considering the nerf to his mana costs (3800.png/3025.png/3110.png/3050.png/3222.png/3060.png);
-Don't forget, it's useless to build more than 40% CDR!

-Boots are still the same, 3047.png 3111.png 3009.png 3117.png, but you can also get 3158.png if you need to get to 40% CDR (it's somewhat important on support Trundle).

I can't really give 1 optimized build for support, but here are some ideas:
2303.png3060.png3109.png3110.png3065.png3009.png. 3.4k HP, 40% CDR, 3 armor items, 2 MR items.
3401.png2045.png3109.png3110.png3190.png3158.png. PROTECT THE CARRY! 3.4k HP, 2 shields and a damage reduction, 3 armor items, but only one good MR item and 30% CDR. Run with 3.png and the Insight mastery (reduced CDR for summoners) for maximum effect.
2303.png3060.png3512.png3109.png3083.png3158.png. Shoves easily the side lanes, 3 armor items, 2 MR items, 3.7k HP, good against poke heavy comp.
