Summoner Spells Back to Top

To start off this Mid Lane Tryndamere guide isn't just confined to the Mid lane. If anything it is a Roaming, counter-jungling, mid lane guide. In other words for every second you have open you should be taking advantage of something on the map ( I will explain later.) So to utilize Mid-roaming-counter-jungle Tryndamere we first need a set of summoner spells that will give us not only a lane advantage but also a roaming advantage.

The main two summoner spells that you will be using are Exhaust and Ignite. I say this because you are starting off in the Mid lane. Compared to Ghost or Flash, Exhaust doesn't apply effects to Tryndamere instead it is a debuff against enemy champions. Because of this Exhaust brings a TON to the table.

When going in for the early game kill not only will your opponent not expect exhaust (will vary.) But Exhaust gives great stats to get that early firstblood. For starters Exhaust gives a 30% movement speed and damage debuff. This means not only can you use Exhaust and your Mocking Shout (W) to almost completely stop their movement but it also stops the damage that they do. This means that they are only at 70% of their current damage so it is a real easy way to turn a battle and make sure the opponent doesn't escape. Ignite is also a very good summoner spell to use because it gives 70-410 damage (depending on level) over 5 seconds. Meaning if you use Exhaust and Ignite at the same time your completely stopping the enemy movement, reducing their damage by 30%, and doing a DOT (damage over time) effect for 70-410 damage, all awhile auto attack them and landing MASSIVE crits. This combo can be used in almost ANY situation and is not only good for going all in but you can also use Exhaust to get out of tight ganks.

 Abilities:

Tryndamere's passive is Battle Fury. Tryndamere gets Fury upon every auto attack, critical strike, and killing blow he makes. Battle Fury is in place of his mana bar however his abilities don't cost anything (except his Q.)

Tryndamere's Q is Bloodlust. Bloodlust gives Tryndamere extra attack damage (depending on level.) And it also gives Tryndamere even more attack damage based on every 1% missing health. Not only this but it also gives you a very AWESOME heal in exchange for any Fury you have gained. Your heal will do more healing based on how much fury it consumes and can heal for 0 fury resulting in a very small heal.

Tryndamere's W is Mocking Shout. Tryndamere's Mocking Shout lowers all enemies in range's attack damage (depending on level.) And if that enemy's back is turned away from Tryndamere then it also slows them (depending on level.)

Tryndamere's E is Spinning Slash. Spinning Slash gives a very good engage/disengage depending on the situation, it's cooldown is also reset upon landing a critical strike it is lowered by 2 second. And it also does decent damage (depending on level.)

Tryndamere's R is Undying Rage. Undying Rage prevents Tryndamere from going below 1 HP for 5 Seconds. It also grants Tryndamere bonus Fury depending on it's level.

Maxing and when to get your abilities:

If your team is invading into the enemy jungle to try and pick up a kill or the buff wait and get an ability depending on the situation. However if your starting in lane I ALWAYS take Tryndamere's Spinning Slash (E.) It gives Tryndamere a safety to engage on the opponent or to disengage away from a tough situation, when fighting early fights I suggest you walk up to the enemy instead of using your spinning slash to get close that way if they end up using their flash you can then E into them which makes up for your lack of a gap close summoner spell.

After getting your E I recommend getting a level 2 Bloodlust. This gives Tryndamere an INSANE damage boost, I usually have about 100-120 AD level 2 depending on my health. This not only gives Tryndamere a really good damage boost but it also gives him a heal so he can get out of tough dives by the skin of his neck. Getting this Level 2 and 3 gives Tryndamere a very good early game in addition to the summoner spells and passive.

Getting your Mocking Shout (W) 4th is always best because if gives a great damage reduction and an even better movement speed reduction to help with the early dives.

I always max Q for the insane damage steroid after that however I recommend maxing your W if your fighting a high mobility champion or maxing your E if your fighting a low mobility champ that way if you need a HUGE movement speed reduction then you can have it in those situations. I also suggest getting a point in your Ultimate level 6 (It helps XD.)

Situational Items

    Your Sub-Core
    A MUST!
    Last Choice(last item!)

Start With:

DORANS START: I personally always run with the Doran's blade plus one health pot after the season 3 changes to it. I run this because of it's great sustain (Doran's blade grants 10 health back per auto attack.) if you use the Doran's blade in addition to your lifesteal quints it provides great early sustain without having to use your Q. Doran's blade also grants great early game health to help with getting poked down.

LONG SWORD START: If you don't have any lifesteal quints I would recommend going with the long sword start mainly because of it's cheap price allowing you to purchase more health pots in the early game. Doran's Blade in my opinion gives more stat wise however this is a good start to get you build going faster as well as good sustain and damage.

First Back:

On your first back you should ALWAYS rush your Vampiric scepter. Vampiric gives AMAZING early game life steal in addition to your Doran's blade and lifesteal quints. One you do get your Vamp you are pretty much an immoveable object from the mid lane. I also recommend getting boots as soon as you can because if will help with your counter-jungling and roaming to bot/top lanes. If you want to mainly stay in your lane and farm I would recommend buying early wards, mid lane is one of the easiest lanes to gank but also is one of the easiest lanes to escape ganks. Make sure to keep wards on you!

Core:

Your core starts with a H and ends with awesome! Hydrawesome! Let's talk about Hydra as your core. Hydra gives a great AOE (area of effect) auto attack that doesn't stop. In addition to this it also gives you an AOE active that grants life and does good damage. When playing Trynd Mid it is all about mid lane, your jungle, your enemy's jungle, and ganking. Hydra gives you the skill set to do just that. With GREAT wave clear that has no cooldown AND a unique active Hydra is the core for you. Hydra CAN be expensive at times I normally tell how well I am doing in game based on how fast I am able to get Hydra. My average is 12 minutes (plus boots.) My best is 8 minutes and my worst is 20 minutes. If you are very behind and Hydra is WAY too expensive for you I recommend trying to get the Tiamot and if you still can't get that then I would go for Static shiv. What I am trying to say is you NEED aoe clear because without it your pushing and roaming potential is cut in halves! I would end up selling the static as soon as I can buy a Hydra. Mainly because Tryndamere benefits WAY more from the constant AOE and unique active from Hydra rather then the 100 charge time from Static. Your IE will be your best friend. IE give Tryndamere not only more Crit chance but it also gives tons of damage. Building these on Tryndamere gives you a great core to win the game with!

Sub-Core: Your Sub-core will be your 4th item (including boots not including Doran's blade) It will either be BORK (Blade of the ruined king) or PD (Phantom Dancer.) I do not recommend building both because depending on the games turn out I normally only build one. If I was playing against a lot of tanks and I plan on doing tons of roaming then I recommend going with BORK because of it's minor attack speed and unique slow/speed it helps a lot when ganking an ally lane. I would go with PD if I wanted to do MORE crit damage and was pushing a lot. PD helps with tower destruction and pushing lanes and securing buffs.

A MUST!:

At minimum ALWAYS have at least one BT on Tryndamere. BT is a GREAT item because it gives Tryndamere INSANE AD(when fully stacked.) It also gives Tryndamere GREAT lifesteal. REMEMBER Tryndamere is a tank ONLY through lifesteal and with his Ulti!

Last Choice:

With Tryndamere Mid I normally ALWAYS choose double BTs as my last two items. However if you are fighting a tough game and you need either more penetration or resistance these are always good choices!

VS

Ahri

Easy

Ahri is an easier target in the Middle lane. Because of her amount of skill shots its always good to keep Tryndamere moving in a constant circle around Ahri and using your Spinning Slash(E) as a way to dodge her skill shots while also getting behind her.

VS

Akali

Medium

Akali is a so-so matchup. When fighting Akali you ALWAYS want a pink ward once she hits 6 that way you are able to see her through her invisibility. When fighting Akali dominate her early game and make SURE to prepare for her level 6 game by buying pink wards!

VS

Anivia

Hard

Anivia is an EXTREMELY difficult lane to fight. She has a constant wave clear plus AMAZING poke and a passive that prevents death. When fighting her you NEED to dodge skill shots at all cost. If you don't you will eventually lose early game and have to rely on counter-jungling and roaming to bring you back into the game. You need to be able to kill her early without going all out so that you can prepare for her passive. As long as you are able to farm as fast as her and be able to dodge skill shots the only thing you have to worry about is to be able to kill her after her passive is poped!

VS

Annie

Easy

Annie is an easy early lane and can sometimes give you trouble in the late game. I recommend when fighting Annie to constantly push her up to her tower so that way she is always pressured into farming and won' t always get the last hit. If you do that once you hit 6 it should be an easy kill even if she stuns you. I recommend diving her and constantly moving around her that way she won' t be able to land skill shots.

VS

Brand

Medium

When fighting Brand the two things you need to watch out for are his VERY long stun and his unpredicted ultis. Make sure you watch out for his Ulti that way you can stop the damage with Undying Rage. As long as you are able to stop skillshots he should be an easier lane.

VS

Cassiopeia

Hard

Cass is a VERY hard lane to win. She is a farming beast and is able to poke for tons. Mainly as long as your always moving around her and dodging skillshots then you should have a decent time.

VS

Cho'Gath

Medium

Cho'Gath is another farm lane to watch out for in the Mid lane. Don't let him stack his feasts otherwise he will get really huge really fast. I recommend you take advantage of his early game and get as mainly kills as you can there so you can prepare for when he gets feasts. It is always hard to predict Cho'Gath's feast if he uses it on you. Before he gets a lot of stacks make sure he uses it on a minion and then go in on him as soon as you can that way he won't have it up and you won't need to worry about Ulti timing.

UPDATE:
Be careful around him in the early levels with his sustain and constant farming ability.

VS

Diana

Easy

Diana is another extremely easy match up, because she is mele it gives Tryndamere a real easy advantage. Constantly dodge her skill shots and you will be fine. Also watch out for her level 6 and her fast gap close.

VS

Elise

Medium

Elise is a small threat because of her Q's percentage damage and non-skillshot poke. She can easily harass you out of lane but just make sure to dodge the skill shots she does have and to constantly rotate around her body if shes in a fight with you.

VS

Evelynn

Easy

Evenlynn is really undecided. But because of her invisibility I recommend getting a pink ward if you plan to dive that way if she gets far away you can place it down and predict her direction. Her poke has been nerfed so it shouldn't be too bad of a matchup.

VS

Fiddlesticks

Medium

If you are fighting a MiddleSticks then watch out and don't dive. His fear could be very deadly if he is maxing it so try and fight him away from tower. Also in early levels don't be near his silence chain because it does EXTREME damage if it gets close to you.His silence won't be a problem besides for the damage it does because Tryndamere can use his Ulti during any form of Crowd Control (CC)

VS

Fizz

Easy

Fizz is another easier matchups and long as your able to predict his engage/disengage movements then you should have an easy time with him. SAVE your E for when he tries to escape that way you can close the gap easily. Make sure to walk up engage instead of using your E!

VS

Galio

Hard

I find Galio as a tougher matchup because of his shield of not being able to take damage at all. He is a very difficult challenger for Tryndamere to beat. I definitively don't recommend diving him unless someone is there to help you. His Ultimate is deadly, a 3 second taunt.

VS

Gragas

Easy

Gragas is a decently easy matchup, if you constantly rotate around his body and use your E to dodge his skillshots then you should be fine. Remember his barrels do have an attack speed slow.

VS

Heimerdinger

Medium

Heimer will be a fairly difficult matchup for you. With him being able to place 3 towers and constantly farm you will most likely be harassed out of lane. Remember to use your jungle and to roam to get ahead. Once level 6 you should be able to kill him easily.

VS

Jayce

Easy

Jayce is an extremely easy lane just remember to dodge his skillshots (with the nerf of his empowered skillshot's cd it should be simple.)

VS

Karma

Medium

Dodge her Mantra Q's and you should be fine, watch out for her binding can be deadly.

VS

Karthus

Easy

The only bad part about fighting Karthus is that his farming ability is AOE so if you farming next yo your own minions he can hit you easily. Other then his slow you should be fine.

VS

Kassadin

Easy

Karthus is easy pre-level 6, kill him as many times as you can before level 6. Once level 6 make sure to call MIAs and to roam if he is gone too long. Try to turn the lane into a farm lane post 6.

VS

Katarina

Easy

Just save your E for when she Shunpos away that way you can catch her.
