Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoner Spells

Untitled-1.png

Tryndamere is a very good champion and can take a range of different Summoner spells. You can take whatever you want to take on him but here’s a brief rundown on when you can take them.179.png

4.png Flash: Most popular Summoner spell and is very good, it allows you to escape and engage on enemy champions. I take Flash everytime when I play Tryndamere.

6.png Ghost: You can take Ghost instead of Flash if you want to chase enemies. This Summoner spell is good if you want a speed up. However this spell takes a while to reach its maximum peak and unlike Flash, it is not an instant spell.

14.png Ignite: If you are in a good matchup and can easily kill the enemy and snowball the lane- take ignite for example against a 36.png Dr Mundo or 57.png Maokai.

3.png Exhaust: If you do not want to fight and are in a hard matchup, exhaust can be good. Exhaust is good against fighters or enemies who deal lots of damage such as 114.png Fiora or 58.png Renekton. Exhaust also allows you to catch up on enemies if they are running away from you.

12.png Teleport: Teleport is the second Summoner spell I usually take. It gives you global map pressure and will allow you to join your team if you’re split pushing. It will also allow you to get across the map quicker and get back to lane faster. 179.png

New Runes Back to Top

Runes

Untitled-1.png

I recommend taking Press%20the%20Attack.png?width=32 Press the Attack as the main Rune in the precision tree because it can easily be activated through 23.png Tryndamere’s basic auto attacks. 23.png Tryndamere gets most of his damage through his auto attacks and he will be building attack speed to buff them. So taking Press%20the%20Attack.png?width=32 Press the Attack on him is good as it will allow him to deal bonus damage to enemies. Next you should take Triumph.png?width=32  Triumph. This Rune will allow us to have some sustain when we kill an enemy, and as 23.png Tryndamere- you will be killing enemies! That leads us on to our next Rune, I recommend taking Legend%20Alacrity.png?width=32 Legend: Alacrity. This is because it gives us free attack speed and that will benefit us greatly. One of our main goals will to be split push and kill enemies, having bonus attack speed will allow us to deal more damage to enemies and their towers. The final Rune will be Last%20Stand.png?width=32 Last Stand, this is very good because it allows us to deal even more damage to enemies- especially when you are low on health. 23.png Tryndamere is a hard carry and snowball champion. If you have a good laning phase and are against an enemy that is quiet weak such as 54.png Malphite, 57.png Maokai or 36.png Dr Mundo then you can easily snowball.179.png

For the secondary tree, you have a lot of options. For this guide, I recommend taking Sorcery. For the secondary runes, you should take Celerity.png?width=32Celerity and Gathering%20Storm.png?width=32 Gathering Storm. These runes are good as they will buff your damage and allow you to hurt the enemy more during the whole game. These Runes are really strong on him, especially against weak targets.

Alternatively, you can take more defensive secondary Runes.179.png

Ability Rundown

Untitled-1.png

Tryndamere’s Passive is Battle Fury

Every basic attack that 23.png Tryndamere uses, he will gain 5 fury and 10 fury if that attack was a critical strike. He will also gain fury if he kills an enemy. After 8 seconds of dealing/receiving no damage, he will lose 5 fury per second.

tryndamerepassive.png Battle Fury: Tryndamere gains critical chance based on his fury amount.t1.png179.png

Tryndamere’s Q is Bloodlust

Passive: 23.png Tryndamere errantly has bonus attack damage. He also gains bonus attack damage per % of his missing health.

Active: 23.png Tryndamere consumes all his fury and 7.png heals himself. Each point that is consumed increases the healing.

dot-pattern.pngTips: Your tryndamereq.png Q will be one of your main sources of 7.png healing and early game damage. In the early game, you want to not use your tryndamereq.png Q unless you have high fury. This is because the 7.png healing is not very good unless you have a high amount of fury.

This ability grants you a lot of damage in the early game, so keep auto attacking the enemy if they walk too far forward. In the laning phase, you should be auto attacking whenever the enemy comes to farm, especially if they are a melee champion such as 114.png Fiora, 58.png Renekton or 141.png Kayn.t2.png179.png

Tryndamere’s W is Mocking Shout

Active: Reduces the Attack damage of all enemy champions nearby for 4 seconds. Enemies that have their backs to 23.png Tryndamere are also slowed.

dot-pattern.pngTips: Like some of your other abilities, your tryndamerew.png W is quiet versatile and can be used in many different situations. If you’re chasing an enemy, your tryndamerew.png W may be the first ability you need to use to catch up with them. If you are low you can use your tryndamerew.png W to reduce the enemies damage and use your tryndameree.png E to escape.t3.png179.png

Tryndamere’s E is Spinning Slash

23.png Tryndamere dashes to a target location dealing damage to all enemies he passes through and also gains 2 fury per hit.

Every time he critically hits a champion, tryndameree.png Spinning Slash's cooldown is slightly reduced.

dot-pattern.pngTips: Your tryndameree.png E is very versatile and can be used to engage or disengage. It can even be used to get over walls and towers! In the early game, one of your main combos will be tryndamerew.png W+ tryndameree.png E+ tryndamereq.png Q. Alternatively, you can switch this up with a tryndamerew.png W, start auto attacking and chase the enemies, and then tryndameree.png E away.t4.png179.png

Tryndamere’s Ultimate is Undying Rage

23.png Tryndamere gains fury and becomes immune from dieing for 5 seconds. His health cannot fall below a certain amount during this time.

dot-pattern.pngTip: You never want to use your undyingrage.png ultimate unless you’re going to die. While your undyingrage.png ultimate is down you have to play slightly safer- especially early. Make sure to use your undyingrage.png ultimate if you’re about to die. If you see yourself dropping low, then just ult. One of the worse feelings whilst playing 23.png Tryndamere is to waste your ultimate, let alone not use it at all! If the enemy has a executioner ability like 134.png Syndra's syndrar.png Ultimate or 122.png Darius's dariusexecute.png Ultimate then you should use your undyingrage.png Ultimate just as they are using theirs.t5.png179.png

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Currently the best starting option for him
Good start against heavy poke/damage enemy
Cull start- good if you cant kill enemy (NOT RECOMMENDED)

Core Items

Infinity Edge is a great first item. Provides Crit and higher amounts of damage.
Boots is your next item. Berserker's Greaves are the best for him but you can get a different pair.
Your third item is going to be Statikk Shiv. Gives Critical Strike/AS which you need for Fury!
Your 4th item is going to be Blade of the Ruined King. This item will give you life steal and sustain and will allow you to chase enemies.
Next you want to get Phantom Dancer. Gives Attack speed and Crit, everything you desire as Tryndamere!
Your final item is Guardian Angel. The passive on this item will allow you to come back after death. It works great with your ultimate.

Situational Items

Example Full Build. This is the standard build for Tryndamere.
Can get this early if you're against heavy AP or an AP laner.
Defensive Items: You can get these if you're being chunked in fights.
Get Lord Dominik's if you're against a heavy TANK team. If you are against a heavy SUSTAIN team get Mortal Reminder.
    Other good items.

Item Suggestions

Untitled-1.png

23.png Tryndamere has a few starting options. Each has its pros and cons. My personal favourite is 1055.png Doran’s Blade start, however you can start 1083.png Cull or 1054.png Doran’s Shield if you want too. Its personal preference but you should take the one that you want or need during the laning phase. Your first major item is going to be3031.png Infinity edge. This item gives him lots of damage and gives him more critical damage. That item is something you should always have on him because it allows him to deal more damage, and give him a higher critical strike chance. This will allow us to become stronger too. Your second major item is going to be 1001.png boots. You would usually go for the 3006.png Attack Speed boots which will allow you to get Fury faster and attack quicker, however you can get 3047.png Ninja Tabi or 3111.png Merc Treads instead. Mercs are good against heavy AP enemies or enemies with lots of CC such as 50.png Swain, 111.png Nautilus or 17.png Teemo. 3047.png Ninja Tabi are good against heavy kite enemies, or enemies with multiple AD. Take the boots you need to survive the game. Your third item is going to be 3087.png Stattik Shiv. This item gives you lots of burst damage and increased critical strike. This item should always be brought on 23.png Tryndamere. Alternatively, you can get this item first, followed by 3031.png Infinity Edge. The fourth item is going to 3153.png Blade of the Ruined King. This item is good as it gives you AD, Lifesteal and will allow you to chase enemies who are escaping. Make sure to use the active in fights!  Your final two items are going to be 3046.pngPhantom Dancer and 3026.png Guardian Angel. These items are really good on him because PD gives you crit and attack speed, and GA gives you an amazing passive.179.png

This is a frustrating matchup because they have the range advantage. You will need to play safe and not greed for CS. Read below to learn how to lane against a ranged champion. Tips and Tricks Back to Top

Tips and Tricks

Untitled-1.png

Here is a short list of Tips and Tricks that can help you in game.179.png

  • Use your undyingrage.png ultimate only if you’re going to die. Use it at the last second possible.
  • Use your tryndamereq.png Q when you need to 7.png heal- the more fury you have the more 7.png healing you get from it.
  • Your tryndameree.png E can be used to escape or engage.
  • Your tryndameree.png E can be used to get over walls too!
  • Just because you can splitpush doesn’t mean you should. If your team needs you- try to rotate.
  • It is important not to get burst or poked when going to farm. If you cannot get the CS, just leave it.

Tryndamere Combos:

  • tryndamerew.png W + AA + tryndameree.png E – Standard Combo | Use E to escape, make sure to walk behind the enemy so it hits them too.
  • tryndameree.png E + tryndamerew.png W + AA – Standard Combo | Engage to hit enemy.
  • tryndameree.png E + tryndamerew.png W + AA + tryndamereq.png Q– Standard Lane Combo | Basic combo to get in, slow and deal damage.179.png

Early Game Back to Top

Early Game

Untitled-1.png

Early game 23.pngTrynda is the same in every game. You want to go for an early level all in and try to get an early kill. If this does not work out, then just play around it. If you cannot go for the early all in then do not try it. It’s very risky, but also very rewarding if you can do it. The laning phase for 23.png Trynda is pretty simple, and basic. You want to farm all the CS you can, and get a CS advantage, while also trying to fight when you have the advantage. For example, when you have lots of Fury. You main combo’s throughout the laning phase will be tryndameree.png E + tryndamerew.png W+ tryndamereq.png Q or tryndamerew.png W + tryndamereq.png Q + tryndameree.png E.  Your job early is to abuse the enemies, and gain an advantage. Put the enemies as behind as you can, while also being as strong as you can.179.png

Mid Game Back to Top

Mid Game

Untitled-1.png

In the Mid game you want to have got at least one major item. Because 23.png Trynda isn’t the best at team fighting, you want to keep splitpushing and keep doing so until the enemy comes to stop you. Once they do, you then rotate and help your team. It is Important to find a line between grouping and split pushing, while true you do not have the best team fighting ability and are much better at split pushing- you should group if your team really needs you.

Knowing when and when not to spit push is very hard to explain. Once you start to play 23.png Tryndamere more, you will find and know what you should be doing and when.179.png

Late Game Back to Top

Late Game

Untitled-1.png

In the later stages of the game, you will need to be very smart about split pushing as you can cost your team the game if you split push at the wrong time. Your main job at this part of the game is to catch people out, get objectives and split push. If the enemy is countering your splitpush, then go on the hunt to catch an enemy out of position. During the later parts of the game, you may also need to group and help your team. If you’re team is losing objectives fast, such as an inhibitor while you cannot get anything out of it, just back.

If your objective is dying- and you cannot get something in return, recall and help your team.179.png

Dueling and Skirmishes Back to Top

Dueling and Skirmishes

Untitled-1.png

23.pngTryndamere is one of the best 1v1 fighters in the game. With that said, it can be hard to know when to fight and when not too. League of Legends is a very situational game it takes time and practise to win these 1v1 fights. Even though 23.png Tryndamere is mechanically- an easy champion. Dueling can often be hard.179.png

Tryndamere is good in skirmishes and trades because:

  • His undyingrage.png ultimate can save him from dying.
  • His Kit has no real skill shots, and the one he has, has a huge radius and is easy to hit.
  • He build Critical Strick and Attack Speed and can keep autoing the enemy.
  • He is strong during the mid/late game and can bully enemies.
179.png

Before dueling or fighting anybody, you must first look at the map to see where everybody is. Is the enemy Jungler missing or is the enemy Jungler headed Topside? You should try to know where everyone is before going for any sort of fights or skirmishes.

In the laning phase, you can go for trades whenever you have a high ammount of Fury. Once you have enough- you can go in for a trade. Start with a tryndamerew.png W and follow up with Auto attacks and stand behind the enemy (in their exit path). Once the trade has ended, tryndameree.png E backwards through them. Alternativly, you can go for tryndamerew.png W + tryndameree.png E or tryndameree.png E + tryndamerew.png W.

23.png Tryndamere is very strong in 1v1 fights so keep that in mind when skirmishing. You will, practically- be able to 1v1 anyone if you play it right. 179.png

Do not go in for a Duel/ Skirmish if:

  • You have low Fury.
  • The enemy Jungler is headed towards you.
  • The enemy is rotating towards you, and will make it an unfair fight (1v2 or 1v3.)
  • You have no undyingrage.png ultimate.
  • Your abilities are on cooldown.
  • You are low and can possible come of worse from the fight.

During the game, and whilst you're splitpushing. You may come accross an enemy or two trying to stop you from pushing in attempts to fight you. In most cases, you will win the fights because of your overall damage, ease of the champion, and strength. 23.png Tryndamere after all, can out push and can 1v1 practically all champions.

Another positive is that you can out push anybody and no one can stop you quickly and efficently you push. If they do stop you pushing, they will be drawn away from your team in which they can team fight 4v4. A good 23.png Tryndamere will apply pressure through pushing and trading. In most cases, you will be able to outplay and win any trade in these types of situations because of your damage output.179.png

How to Play Melee versus Ranged Back to Top

How to Play Melee Versus Ranged

Untitled-1.png

In League of Legends, there are a plethora of champions with different shapes, sizes and abilities. Many champions are melee and are recognizable by their point blank basic attacks. If you’ve ever played a game of League and if you’re reading this, you would know how unfortunate and painful it is to play as a melee champion against a ranged one.

Many players seem to give up the laning phase when they see that they’re against a ranged champion. Fear not! We will discuss some things you can do in these matchups to help improve your laning experience. Using the information presented will allow you to be more active in lane rather than giving it over to the enemy.

Starting Items

If you are a champion that doesn’t have the best early game, then I recommend starting with Doran’s Shield. This item is good as it gives you some early defensive stats that will benefit you in the early levels and help you sustain. Realistically, you will be unable to always trade exclusively against ranged champions. Taking early defensive stats will allow you to survive for longer during the early stages of the game.

image1510910303.png
Dorans Shield is a great starting item.

The item itself gives 80 health and flat health regeneration every 5 seconds. This is good because it will heal you back quicker when you are attacked. It will also restore health when taking damage from enemies. I do not recommend taking harass for free, but in some situations you will have to take damage to farm. This is overall a really good item to start with because it will allow you to survive in lane for longer against the enemy's harassment.

Level 1/2

In Melee versus Ranged matchups, the lane is quickly dictated by who hits level 2 first. In the all matchups, you will want to hit level 2 first but especially in melee versus ranged. If you do not get the level 2 first, then you will be denied minions and farm. While you may not be able to do anything against Ranged champions early, it is important to hit the level 2 to stay up in CS. Being an equal level will prevent the enemy going for extremely trades in the early levels. This will also prevent you from being poked out and losing minions and the experience. Farming is something you need to do and you must make sure to keep the wave in a reasonable position so you can farm easier.

Trading

Going for early trades against champions with ranged can be one way of swinging the lane into your advantage. If you can get the level 2 advantage, then you can go for a trade if the enemy is still level 1.

You can try to fight them if you have ranged abilities such as Akali Q, Zed Q and Talon W. However, this is very situational and depends on the champion you’re playing and who you’re against. It is recommended to look up your champion's power spikes. Most Assassins have the opportunity for an early level trade such as Zed’s W+Q combo. Champions who deal damage will benefit more from these early level trades compared to tanks.

Ability Farming

Most champions in League of Legends have at least 1 damaging ability. Some of them cost mana, some cost health and others cost energy. If you're in a matchup where you are being heavily denied CS from a champion with range, then I recommend trying to farm with your abilities.

If your ability doesn't cost any mana, then it is possible that you can farm with that ability. Dr. Mundo, The Madman of Zaun, has his Q ability that doesn't cost any mana but instead health. This ability will refund the cost if you kill the enemy hit. This can be a good way of farming because you are able to regenerate and get the cost back immediately or over time.

There are some other champions that can benefit from using their abilities to farm with such as Zed. While this sounds good on paper, it is highly situational. You should not, and I do not recommend using your abilities to only farm with. You need to poke and last hit. If you are only farming with your abilities, then you lose all your poke potential. You should not use your abilities to farm if they have high mana costs.

Sacrifice CS for Experience

Getting farm is incredibly important. In lanes where you will be poked when going to take farm, it is best to sacrifice some of them for the experience. While you do need gold and minions to buy items, experience and staying alive is more important. You need to stay up in CS and levels to still be hazardous to the enemy. While high elo players suggest getting a high amount of CS at 10 minutes, in lanes like this you will have to take what you can get. I recommend always trying to get Cannon minions, but be prepared to sacrifice some. Is that minion gold worth the amount of harassment from the enemy? Keep that in mind when farming.

Itemization

Depending on your champion, you may need to pick up more defensive items early. If you’re a tank and playing against someone with range such as a Kayle or Swain. I recommend buying early armor or magic resist before getting your first core item.

In Season 7, Bramble Vest was introduced and it is an amazing item. It’s a mini Thornmail with the same “Thorns” passive. It will deal damage back to enemies when you’re being attacked from basic attacks. This is good as it will allow you to deal damage to them when they attack you. At 1000 gold, the item grants 35 armor which will also help you when trading and farming.

There are many other defensive items out there. Some may be more viable then others and you should build what you need right now to survive the laning phase. Ninja Tabi is another good example of an early defensive item. However, you should only get this item if you will directly benefit from it.

Minion Wave

In every laning phase, you should play around with minion waves to get the most out of your lane. This depends on your champion, but you should try to have it in a more defensive position outside of your tower. You do not want to push the wave because the enemy will easily freeze the wave in a position much further up in the lane and deny you CS. This is something you do not want to happen. When backing or roaming, push the wave as far as you can so they cannot take your tower. Minions will act on instinct and if you’re being attacked by autos from the enemy champion, they will switch targets. This means the wave may mess up - keep that in mind when playing around with minions.

Roaming

If you’ve messed up the minion wave and are being heavily denied, then you should roam. If you are a champion with any potential CC, then you can look to roam and rotate with or without your jungler. Before roaming, make sure that it will be worth it. Push the wave so the enemy cannot take your tower. Look for potential opening in the game where you can gank your middle or bot. Wait for the enemy to use a core ability before going ham.

You must remember that you will be in a disadvantaged position at the start of the game. It is important to farm up and play safe especially early. You should try to position the wave in a favourable position to sustain a high level of creeps while also staying healthy and not being poked easily by enemies. It is better to stay a few CS behind early rather than having to back because you took too much aggro. Practise makes perfect when playing melee versus ranged. Every lane is different so keep an eye on what you can do to have the best possible outcome to this laning phase. In many cases, experience matters as League of Legends is a very, very situational game.
