4.png 12.png--> More common summoner spells for top-lane.

6.png 14.png--> Cheese strategy. Used for early level all-in's and chasing opponents down.

New Runes Back to Top

231.png
For Tryndamere, these new runes haven't been all that fitting. Bruisers and dueler-style AD tops aren't preforming well with the new rune system (generally). However, working with what we got; Press%20the%20Attack.png?width=32PTA, Triumph.png?width=32 Triumph, Legend%20Alacrity.png?width=32 Legend: Alacrity, and Last%20Stand.png?width=32 Last stand. For our Secondary, we go into the Resolve tree, and we run; Perseverance.png?width=32 Unflinching, and Second%20Wind.png?width=32 Second Wind. Depending on how you want to play the lane, sometimes you can run Coup%20De%20Grace.png?width=32 (Coup De Grace) or Cut%20Down.png?width=32  (Cut Down) for the 3rd row in the Precision tree for your main keystone route. Normally however, Last%20Stand.png?width=32 (Last Stand) works well with in combination with your undyingrage.png (R).

231.png
PRIMARY: Precision

Press%20the%20Attack.png?width=32--> PTA is probably the best option for Tryndamere right now. Sustained damage is good for what purpose Tryndamere serves.

Triumph.png?width=32--> Triumph is far and away the best out of the 3 options on the first row. Works great for tower dives and high-risk plays.

Legend%20Alacrity.png?width=32--> Legend:Alacrity is a good fit for Tryndamere. Gaining Attack Speed for takedown's can help us snowball harder if we get ahead, and it help's us duel and split-push faster.

Last%20Stand.png?width=32--> Last stand works well with our undyingrage.png (R). Also, it helps us duel target's while we are low, and while our undyingrage.png (R) is active.

*Note: for the third row of the Precision tree, all 3 options are pretty good, I think Last Stand is more fitting for Tryndamere than the other 2, but that's just my personal opinion.

179.png
SECONDARY: Resolve

Perseverance.png?width=32--> Unflinching Increases our Tenacity and Slow Resistance when our Summoner Spell's are on cool-down can be a difference maker to whether we survive a gank, 1v1, etc. It also grants us additional Tenacity and Slow Resistance when we cast a Summoner Spell for 10 seconds. Good at helping us get out of, and avoid, sticky situations.

Second%20Wind.png?width=32--> Second Wind helps us sustain in the lane in combination with our tryndamereq.png (Q) heal. After taking damage from an enemy champion, it heals for a percentage of our missing health over a 10 second duration.

For Tryndamere, maxing tryndamereq.png (Q), then tryndameree.png (E), then tryndamerew.png (W) is usually the best route. Level up undyingrage.png (R) at levels 6, 11, and 16. Tryndamere's tryndamereq.png (Q) helps him trade and sustain in the lane-phase and while split-pushing. His tryndameree.png (E) helps him escape and chase down opponents. His tryndamerew.png (W) can slow opponents (who have their backs turned toward him) and reduce their attack damage for a few seconds. His undyingrage.png (R) grants him fury and makes him unkillable for 5 seconds.

231.png

Tryna.png

231.png
tryndamerepassive.png

PASSIVE: Battle Fury.

FURY: Tryndamere gains 5 Fury each time he lands a basic attack. He gains 10 Fury on a critical strike and or if he kills an enemy. If he doesn't deal damage within 8 seconds, he loses 5 Fury every second.

Battle Fury: Tryndamere gains 0-35% critical chance based on how much Fury he has stacked up.

Tryna1.png

Tryndamere's passive is great throughout the game. Free critical chance while basic attacking opponents is great, more so if you build more critical items. The early RNG critical's can change the lane, and maybe net you a few kills. 231.png
tryndamereq.png

Q-Ability: Bloodlust

PASSIVE: Tryndamere permanently gains bonus attack damage, and gains bonus damage for every 1% of his missing health.

ACTIVE: Tryndamere consumes all of his Fury and heals himself. Heal is determined by how much Fury you have. (More Fury means more of a heal, Less Fury means less of a heal).

Tryna2.png

Tryndamere's Q is what helps him sustain in lane and helps him duel his opponent. Knowing how to properly utilize his Fury is key to finding success with this ability.

231.png
tryndamerew.png

W-Ability: Mocking Shout

Tryndamere reduces the attack damage of nearby enemies for 4 seconds. Additionally, Target's whose backs are facing Tryndamere are slowed.

Tryna3.png

Mocking Shout is a great tool to help you out-duel your opponent, and it offers a slow if they attempt to run away with their backs facing you. Utilizing this ability in a duel can be clutch to ensuring you are able to come out on top.

231.png
tryndameree.png

E-Ability: Spinning Slash

Tryndamere dashes toward a location dealing Physical damage to the enemies he hits in his dash-path, and gains 2-fury per enemy hit. Additionally, Spinning Slash has its cool-down reduced a bit each time Tryndamere critically strikes.

Tryna4.png

Spinning Slash is your mobility and chase tool; in combination with your W, it's grant for dueling and chasing down opponents. Also, landing critical strikes reduces the cool-down, so having high critical chance can make this ability have a short cool-down.

231.png

undyingrage.png

R-Ability: Undying Rage

Tryndamere cannot fall below a certain amount of HP for a few seconds. During activation, he is granted Fury. Additionally, Undying Rage can be casted while crowd-controlled.

Tryna5.png

Tryndamere's R is iconic. It's outplay and dueling potential is amazing. In combination with your Q passive, you can output a lot of damage in those 5 seconds. Timing is the key to fully utilizing this ability.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

    Most common start for Tryndamere.
More of a defensive start. Good against poke lanes, or lanes where you need to survive.
Aggressive start; most likely looking to kill your opponent early on and gain an advantage.
Defensive start against AD champions. Good against things like Jayce or Pantheon for example.

Core Items

    Standard Build.
More dueling/split-pushing. Phantom Dancer here instead of Shiv.
Lot's of critical chance, and high damage output.

Situational Items

Good against non-sustain tanks or heavy-HP stackers.
Good against sustain-tanks, or against target's with sustain.
Not a bad early buy. Lethality helps your attacks deal more damage, and the active is good for chasing.
Good boot purchase against AD match-ups, or against AD-heavy comps.
Good against crowd control, or against AP-heavy comps.
Good boot purchase against enemy comp's with a lot of slows. Also good at chasing target's down and roaming.
Not a bad buy if you need tankiness and some survivability.
Not a bad buy for chasing target's down and being a lot harder to kill.
Lot's of damage and sustain, good for split-pushing. Not always an ideal item to build however.
Good against AP threats early on.
Builds out of hexdrinker; good if we still need the stats against AP threats later on (assuming we bought hexdrinker early).
231.png

1055.png--> Doran's blade is the go-to starter item. AD, HP, and a little bit of lifesteal is good for laning phase.

1054.png--> Doran's shield is good against poke lanes and lanes who can pressure you. HP, health regen, and a little bonus damage to minions.

1036.png--> Aggressive starting item. Offers us 10 AD, and the ability to take 3 health potions into lane.

1029.png--> Defensive start against AD match-ups. Good against things like Jayce and Pantheon.

3155.png--> Sometimes a good buy against AP damage threats early on.

3046.png--> Phantom dancer is the best of the 3 attack speed/crit items in my opinion. The 12% damage reduction and attack speed is to good to pass up. It also offers the critical chance we need in combination with IE to hit 100%. Great dueling item and even in general just a good item.

3087.png--> Shiv is a good option if you're looking for burst and high damage output. However, it doesn't match Phantom Dancer in attack speed or dueling stats.

3031.png--> Infinite Edge is key on Tryndamere. It amplifies critical damage, and offers a large amount of AD.

3022.png--> Frozen Mallet is not a bad buy for Tryndamere. Gives HP, and a small amount of AD. It's passive is also nice for being able to stick onto targets.

3006.png--> Attack speed is ideal to help us stack Fury faster, Berseker's are probably the most common boot purchase on Tryndamere.

3111.png--> Merc treads are great against CC and magic damage. The tenacity helps prevent you from getting locked down, and the magic resist is good against AP threats.

3047.png--> Ninja tabi is good against AD comps and AD threats. Reducing basic attack damage by 10% and giving us 30 armor is really good at handling and dueling AD champions.

3009.png--> Good against teams with a lot of slows; and it's good for early map movements and rotations. Not as good as mobies, but offers resistance against slows in exchange.

3026.png--> Guardian Angel usually rounds out our build. It allows us to go deep into the enemy team and cause mayhem while being able to rely on the revive.

3153.png--> Blade of the Ruined King is great for dueling and tank shredding. The damage and attack speed are also nice stats for Tryndamere, and the percent health damage is great at cutting through tanks.

3156.png--> Builds out of the hexdrinker; good to buy later on during the game if we have already bought hexdrinker, and still need the stats against AP damage threats.

3508.png--> Damage, critical chance, and CDR. Overall not a bad item for Tryndamere. However, one of the three passive's is useless on him; so this item isn't always the right fit.

3139.png--> Merc Scim is good against heavy crowd control comps. The active helps you get out of a sticky situation; and can offer out-play potential against certain champions.

3142.png--> Ghostblade is sometimes good on Tryndamere. Lethality, damage, and CDR are good stats early on. It also offers out of combat move-speed which is good for roaming, and its active is good for chasing targets down or rotating around the map quicker.

3036.png--> Better against comps who stack health and do not have a ton of sustain in their kit. Good against tanks like Malphite and Sion.

3033.png--> Better aginst comps who are tanky and have a lot of built-in sustain. Good against champions like Warwick and Mao'kai.

Playing as Tryndamere Back to Top

231.png
Playing as Tryndamere requires you to master the 3 stages of the game; which is early, mid, and late game.

179.png
EARLY GAME: In lane, you need to understand what their champion can and can't do, and what your champion can and can't do. Tyrndamere is good at 1v1's, with his critical chance, and good dueling kit, he can get kills most wouldn't normally expect.
  1. Do you have lane control?
  2. Do you have Kill pressure?
  3. Where is the jungler at? Where is my jungler at?
  4. What are their power-spikes in comparison to mine?
  5. Am I managing the waves well enough so I don't get zoned? Can I zone them myself?
Of course, many other factors come into play. But this basic questions can help you think critically about how you play the lane. Tyrndamere has a rough time laning against most champions; but he can still win match-ups by getting early cheese (either through critical strikes or the chosen summoner spells) or by playing the lane correctly. As to not set yourself behind, or give the enemy an advantage which they can then use against you.

179.png
MID GAME: When mid-game rolls around, there is another set of questions you must be able to answer.
  1. Have I taken their outer tower yet?
  2. Has my team taken their outer towers yet?
  3. How strong am I in comparison to their top or mid laner?
  4. Can I split-push effectively?
  5. Can I team-fight effectively?
  6. Did I itemize correctly?
  7. What's my CS like compared to my laners?
  8. What is more effective, split-pushing or team-fighting?
Tryndamere excels at split-pushing and side-lane 1v1 duels. With a few items, he can 1v1 almost anyone, and that is where your threat comes from. Pressure is the key to finding success with Tryndamere. Playing the pressure game correctly in the mid-game can grant you and your team an advantage that y'all can then transition into the late game, or just out-right close the game then and there.

179.png
LATE GAME: When late game hits, there is another set of questions you must be able to answer.
  1. Do we have side-lane wave control in our favor?
  2. What major objective is the most important for our team-comp?
  3. Have we gotten all the outer towers yet?
  4. Do we have places warded with regular wards and control wards?
  5. What is my teams strength relative to their team's strength?
  6. How should I play this next team-fight? Should we even team-fight at all? Should I just split-push instead?
  7. Should I pressure a side-lane, or go and group with my team?
  8. Who is the most powerful on the enemy team?
Being able to answer these questions can help you have a better late game, and can prevent you from making a crucial mistake which may cost you the game. As Tryndamere, split-pushing and looking for 1v1's in the side-lane is what your more geared towards when compared to team-fighting.

Dueling as Tryndamere Back to Top

231.png
1. Using your tryndamereq.png (Q) passive is essential to winning trades. The lower you get, the more damage you deal. This is why we don't use the second portion of our tryndamereq.png (Q) (the heal) right away or during trading. We wait till after; since being lower health allows us to do more damage.

2. Also, using your tryndamereq.png (Q) heal after a good trade is a good way to optimize your Fury. It allows you to gain back health after trading, and you can begin to restack you're Fury while the opponent has to sit back and regen up and or wait for cool-down's. Remember, the more Fury you have, the more you will heal.

3. Using your tryndamerew.png (W) early in a duel is good as for it lowers their AD for 4 seconds, and you may be able to get one/two tryndamerew.png (W)'s off in an extended trade. Plus, if you can time it to when they have their backs turned toward you, you can chase or get in a few more attacks before tryndameree.png (E)'ing away.

4. Use of your tryndameree.png (E) after good trades is essential. Getting a few attacks (possibly critical strikes) then tryndameree.png (E)'ing away makes it so the enemy has a hard time trading back efficiently.

5. Timing of your undyingrage.png (R) is essential for maximizing this champion's potential. Using it at just the right time to either win a 1v1, or escape a near-death situation is what you ideally want to use it for.

About me Back to Top

179.png
I began playing league around the start of season 4 and picked up Yasuo around March of that year, and have remained a dedicated main since then (My favorite skin is High-noon, and I like all of the chroma's). After a few months of dedicated playing, my main account hit platinum 2 in season 5 and my smurf had reached diamond. Following that, in season 6 I was able to cruise into Diamond smoothly on my main account and currently in season 7 (as you probably saw by my lolking link). I ended season 7 in Diamond 5 sadly because I didn't have a lot of time to grind out games, and because I was simply not good enough to climb to where I wanted to be. I did however peak Diamond 3, 100 LP (D2 promos), so while I'm not yet where I want to be, I know I can do it in the future.
