Summoner Spells Back to Top

Summoner Spells

red_line.png

4.png Twisted Fate is a mage champion who deals lots of damage and can carry his teammates. It is important to take the right Summoner Spells when you play 4.png Twisted Fate as these can make your game easier or near impossible to win.

4.png I recommend that you always take Flash on 4.png Twisted Fate because it is such a reliable and instant Summoner Spell. Because of 4.png Twisted Fates pickacard.png Pick a Card you can use your Flash and stun the enemy. I always take Flash on 4.png Twisted Fate and it is a must-have!

red_line.png

For your secondary Summoner Spell, you have a lot of freedom to take whichever spell you want. You can take any of the next Summoner spells that are listed:

14.png Ignite: If you're in a good matchup and feel like you can win it quite easily, take ignite.

3.png Exhaust: If you're against an assassin such as Talon or Zed, you should take exhaust.

21.png Barrier: If you're against an enemy who has lots of poke, you can take Barrier to protect yourself against their burst damage.

1.png Cleanse: If you're against a champion with heavy CC such as Lissandra, Zoe or Lux then you could take Cleanse. You should also take Cleanse if you're against a gank heavy/cc heavy jungler.

6.png Ghost: Ghost is the one Spell that I usually take on Twisted Fate. This is a very good spell and will allow me to catch up on enemy champions.

12.png Teleport: Taking Teleport is good if you want to roam and help other lanes out. Teleport is a great Spell if you cannot kill the enemy laner.

Runes

red_line.png

A lot of 4.png Twisted Fate players are taking Sorcery as their main Rune tree. This is because it empowers 4.png Twisted Fates abilities which will allow him to deal more damage throughout the laning phase. I recommend that you take Arcane%20Comet.png?width=32 Arcane Comet as your main keystone when playing 4.png Twisted Fate. This is because 4.png Twisted Fate is a ranged champion who has lots of poke and his wildcards.png Q (which is his main poke ability) is a skill shot. If you take Arcane%20Comet.png?width=32 Arcance Comet then when you hit an enemy with an ability, it will shoot a Arcane%20Comet.png?width=32 comet in that direction. So, If the enemy has to dodge your wildcards.png Q and you hit it, then they also have to dodge the Arcane%20Comet.png?width=32 Arcane Comet. In short, this keystone is great for early game poke. Even though 4.png Twisted Fate gets lots of mana back thanks to his pickacard.png Blue card, he will run out of mana if you frequently use your other abilities. I recommend that you take Manaflow%20Band.png?width=32 Manaflow Band to counter this. Every so often, this ability will give you your mana back when you use an ability. This is great in both the early game and team fights. The next Rune you want to take is Celerity.png?width=32 Celerity. This is a good Rune on him because it gives you bonus movement speed which will aid in your roams. It also gives you bonus damage- which is always nice. For your final Rune, you should take Scorch.png?width=32 Scorch. Scorch.png?width=32 Scorch is a great Rune as it will allow you to go for trades more often and deal more damage to the enemies in trades.

red_line.png

For your secondary Rune page, I recommend that you take Inspiration. Perfect%20Timing.png?width=32 Perfect Timing is a good Rune on 4.png Twisted Fate because it gives you an hourglass that can save your life. This will also make your 3157.png Zhonya's Hourglass slightly cheaper. The next and final Rune you should take is Minion%20Dematerializer.png?width=32 Minion Dematerializer. This will allow you to push waves quickly. Instead of this Rune, you could take Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=32 Cosmic Insight for the bonus 5% reductions.

Abilities

red_line.png

Twisted Fate’s Passive is Loaded Dice

Every time 4.png Twisted Fate kills an enemy, he will randomly gain a certain amount of gold.

Screenshot_5.png

red_line.png

Twisted Fate’s Q is Wild Cards

4.png Twisted Fate throws three cards outwards in a semi-circle dealing damage to all enemies they pass through

tf2.png

Tips and Tricks

Your wildcards.png Q is very versatile and can be used in a variety of ways. It will be your main source of damage and wave clear in the early game and in team fights. During the team fights, you want to continuously use your wildcards.png Q to poke down enemy champions. Try your hardest to hit as many champions as possible when using your wildcards.png Q as this can turn a team fight.

red_line.png

Twisted Fate’s W is Pick a Card

4.png Twisted Fate cycles through 3 cards- Blue card, Red card and Gold card. Reactivating this ability will choose the designated card and allow you to use it as your next basic auto attack.

Blue_Card.png BLUE CARD: 4.png Twisted Fate restores mana and deals increased damage.

Red_Card.png RED CARD: 4.png Twisted Fate slows the enemy and enemies around it for 2.5 seconds.

Gold_Card.png GOLD CARD: 4.png Twisted Fate stuns the target enemy.

tf3.png

Tips and Tricks

Blue_Card.png Blue Card: This card deals the highest damage from all three cards. It also can restore a lot of mana which will help you survive the early game. If you are trying to farm under tower, or you’re trying to take a tower- use this card as it will do the most damage and allow you to take it with ease.

Red_Card.png Red Card: This card is an AOE ability that will mostly be used to clear big minion waves and slow down enemies. You can use the Red_Card.png Red card to clear waves quickly and using your wildcards.png Q to push them.

Gold_Card.png Gold Card: This card is a stun. This ability is a click CC which is very frustrating to play against. In most cases, you will use your Gold_Card.png Gold card to stun enemy champions in team fights and peel for your allies. During the laning phase, you want to use this card to stun the enemy champion and follow it up with your wildcards.png Q. It is also very helpful if you’re receiving a gank from an ally.

red_line.png

Twisted Fate’s E is Stacked Deck

4.png Twisted Fate gains bonus attack speed. Every 4 attacks 4.png Twisted Fate deals additional magic damage.

Screenshot_6.png

Tips and Tricks

Your cardmasterstack.png E works passively throughout the gaming giving you slight bonuses in the game. Whenever you use your destiny.png Ultimate, try to have 2/3/4 stacks in your cardmasterstack.png E to do increased damage to enemies. You can use this ability (passively) with your pickacard.png W to do increased damage to enemies throughout the game. This stack can be consumed by your pickacard.png W.

red_line.png

Twisted Fate’s Ultimate is Destiny

First Cast: 4.png Twisted Fate gains true sight on all enemy champions for a few seconds.

Second Cast: 4.png Twisted Fate channels briefly before blinking to the target location.

Screenshot_7.png

Tips and Tricks

destiny.png Destiny is the ability that every Bot and Top lane fears. This ability allows you to blink to a location within the huge range. Whilst using your destiny.png Ultimate, you can cast your pickacard.png W and Pick a Card before blinking to the location. This will give you a higher chance of killing the enemy. You want to land directly behind the enemy or at one of their cut of points so they cannot escape.

Map awareness is crucial when using your destiny.png Ultimate.  Read the section below where I go into detail about using your destiny.png Ultimate.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

You should always take Doran's Ring followed by two health pots as your main starting item. This is because these items will allow you to perform well and survive the early laning phase.

Core Items

Your first core item is going to be Rod of Ages. Rod of Ages is a great item for Twisted Fate because it gives him health and mana and makes him stronger over time. You need to get this item as quickly as possible on Twisted Fate to get the full stacked Passive of this item.
Your second item is going to be Boots. You have 3 or 4 options to which Boots to buy. The normal and most popular Boots are going to be Sorcerer’s Shoes because they give you magic penetration. However, you can get Ninja Tabi, Mercury Treads or Ionian instead.
The third item for Twisted Fate is going to be Lich Bane. Lich Bane is a great little item that will make your auto attacks and W buffed. This will allow you to deal more damage in trades and fights. This item is also really good thanks to the stats it gives Twisted Fate.
The fourth item for Twisted Fate is Zhonya’s Hourglass. This item is very good on Twisted Fate because of it’s active. You can get this fourth or rush it if you’re against an assassin like Zed (Zhonya’s first, ROA second.)
After you have picked up your fourth item, you should get Void Staff. Void Staff is a must have on any mage champion and Twisted Fate is no exception. This is because this item provides you with magic penetration.
The final item for Twisted Fate is going to be Rabadon’s Deathcap. This item is really strong on Twisted Fate because it gives you an increased amount of magic damage and it will allow you to deal more damage in team fights.

Situational Items

Example Full build on Twisted Fate. This is a great overall build as it gives you defensive stats as well as offensive items that will allow you to deal damage and trade with the enemies.
If you’re against a heavy damage team or enemies with heavy CC, you could take Banshee’s Veil. This item will give you a shield that can block an enemy ability which can save your life.

Item Suggestions

red_line.png

4.png Twisted Fate will usually start 1056.png Doran’s Ring and two 2003.png health pots as his starting items. This is because 1056.png Doran’s Ring gives him damage and sustain which will allow him to survive the early laning phase. Because 4.png Twisted Fate is relatively weak in the early game, he needs items that will allow him to survive and scale into the mid-game beast he is. Your first core item is going to be 3027.png Rod of Ages. 3027.png ROA is a great item on 4.png Twisted Fate because it gives him bonus mana, health and other stats that will allow him to be healthier and stronger. This item does take 10 minutes to max out its stats, so you need it as soon as possible. After you have purchased 3027.png Rod of Ages, you want to get 1001.png Boots and upgrade them. 4.png Twisted Fate, like many other Mid laners, can take a few different types of 1001.png Boots. The first is the most obvious 3020.png Sorcerer’s Shoes which gives him magic penetration. These are really good on 4.png Twisted Fate as the bonus pen allows him to deal extra damage in team fights. The other 1001.png Boots you can take are 3111.png Mercury Tread’s which you would take against a heavy AP team or heavy CC team, 3047.png Ninja Tabi which should be taken against assassins like 238.png Zed or 91.png Talon. Finally, the last 1001.png Boots are 3158.png Boots of Lucidity. These boots give you cooldown reduction which would benefit 4.png Twisted Fate early.

red_line.png

Your third item is going to be 3100.png Lich Bane. This item will allow you to do increased damage when you use your abilities. 3100.png Lich Bane will buff your pickacard.png W because it is an auto attack-based ability. This means, when using your Blue_Card.png Blue, Red_Card.png Red or Gold_Card.png Gold Card, you will do increased damage and proc 3057.png Sheen. This is overall a strong item on 4.png Twisted Fate and any champion who deals damage with auto attack-based abilities. 3157.png Zhonya’s Hourglass is going to be your 4th item on 4.png Twisted Fate. However, if you’re against an assassin champion like 238.png Zed, 91.png Talon or somebody with burst damage like 142.png Zoe or 134.png Syndra, then you could purchase this item first followed by 3027.png RoA second. Your next item is going to be 3135.png Void Staff. Because 4.png Twisted Fate is a mage champion and builds multiple AP items, you want to take 3135.png Void Staff to penetrate the enemies defences. This is a must-have for any mage champion. Taking 3135.png Void Staff and any magic penetration item on 4.png Twisted Fate is good.

As we can see, 4.png Twisted Fate will be built AP. For your final item, you should take 3089.png Rabadon’s Deathcap. This item is good on 4.png Twisted Fate because it gives you a huge boost in AP and damage. This will not only allow you to one shot enemies but also allow you to poke enemies harder which can turn team fights into a 5v4.

VS

Ahri

Hard

Ahri has major mana problems in the early game since her abilities cost a lot. The main offender is her Charm at 85 mana - step forward outside the minion wave or play aggressively in an attempt to bait her to use it as often as possible. She will quickly run out of mana after a few Charms.

Ahri has almost no pressure when her ult is on CD. Trading your ult to force her to use hers is always a good idea. Once you force her ult, which is a 110 second CD, continue to apply pressure to her and look for trades since she won't have a lot of options left to stop you.

If you're behind versus an Ahri, make sure to to keep track of her 110s ult CD. If it's down you can feel safe farming, but once it's up you need to try and farm close to your tower.

Try standing outside the minion wave so you don't get hit by stray Ahri Q's that are aimed at the wave. Ahri will look to all-in off of Q poke but if it never lands, she can't 100 to 0 you.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Anivia

Medium

Anivia's pre-6 laning is fairly weak. She has low waveclear and a poor auto-attack animation - pushing her under tower when possible will give you a strong advantage on her since she will drop a lot of CS under tower.

If Anivia's stun misses, look to all-in or trade with her, especially pre-6. Her Q CD is 12 seconds at rank 1, but if it doesn't land pre-6 then she has no way to proc the extra damage from her E. If it misses post-6 she has no way to keep you in her ult so her DPS suffers, therefore, she is defenseless when it's on CD so look to kill her.

Pay close attention to your positioning since Anivia will be looking to use her wall (17 sec CD) to trap you into an easy stun. As long as you play around this ability it's much harder for Anivia to score kills.

Make sure to have enough waveclear or sustain to keep up with her constant pushing power post-6. Attempt to make plays when you notice her mana getting low or deny the enemy blue buff to help you maintain a stalemate where she cannot pressure you.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Aurelion Sol

Hard

Aurelion's only defense before level 6 is his Starsurge stun that has a 10 second CD. Whenever that ability is down, Sol has no way of dealing with champions that can get on top of him.

Aurelion naturally pushes all the time but has no reliable escape. Coordinate with your Jungler to punish Aurelion for shoving in the early game.

He will be looking to roam a lot and impact the map. Make sure to get vision around mid lane or a yellow trinket in the middle of the lane so you can warn your team of his roams as early as possible.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Brand

Medium

Brand often uses his W which has a 10 second CD as his main source of waveclear - it's also his main source of damage early on. Look to harass him while it's down.

If he ever uses his Q for poke, look to immediately all-in or trade into him because it's his only way to defend himself. Bonus points if you can do this away from the minion wave post-6 so his ult doesn't bounce to you.

Brand's burst comes from the combination of landing 3 abilities that trigger his passive Blaze. As long as he's not able to trigger Blaze, he won't be able to kill someone during an all-in.

Avoid standing close to the minion wave to prevent waveclear abilities like his W or his E from hitting you as well.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Diana

Easy

Diana applies the most pressure when she lands her Crescent Strike (Q) allowing her to get off multiple dashes with her ultimate. Dodge her Q and her ability to chase you down will be extremely limited.

Diana's shield has a 10 second cooldown - after you see her use it to push a wave, look to harass her because she has no real way of fighting back pre-6.

Stay away from minions that have the Moonlight passive on them post-6, Diana will look to R to them for a free gap-closer into a trade.

Diana has zero mobility outside of using her ult on minions or champions. If you ever see her use her Q to farm, step up and fight her. Be ready to dodge the next one mid fight by using a dash or Flash if needed because as long as her Q's don't land, she does no damage.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Ekko

Easy

Ekko will try to use his ultimate at critical health. Try saving your CC when he's low, you can try to punish him for holding onto his ultimate at very low HP.

As long as his E is down, you don't have to fear an all-in from him. Make sure to keep track of his E CD, which is 8 seconds at rank 1, and look to harass him when has no way to fight back.

Ekko will be looking to land his Parallel Convergence from fog to score a kill on you. Do not fall for this trick - when you see an Ekko missing be prepared to dodge it.

Ekkos like to hard shove the wave and roam in farming scenarios. Make sure to ward well around mid lane to stop his attempts of killing your teammates.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Galio

Medium

Galio tends to spam his abilities for waveclear in the early game. If you can step up and zone him after he uses his Q, Winds of War, he will drop a lot of CS.

Remember that he has a non-combat ultimate so he is much weaker in duels. Look to fight him right after he burns his Q on the minion wave so he won't have damage to fight back.

His gank assist is something to be feared, especially his taunt + Flash combo. If you ever see the Galio charge up his taunt and a Jungler appears, the likelihood that he will Flash is extremely high, so be ready to Flash away yourself.

His objective is to push the wave and look for roams. Try your best to keep up with his waveclear and be ready to move out to help your team whenever he has his ultimate, Hero's Entrance, up.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Katarina

Medium

Kat's damage output and mobility comes from the daggers she drops on the ground. Make sure to stay far away from them so you don't give her easy trades, or chances to close the gap on you.

Freezing against Katarina can deny her ability to all-in you and cause her to miss a lot of last-hits. Her only way to last hit from range is Bouncing Blade, which has an 11 second CD at rank 1.

Shunpo has a 14 second second at rank 1 if she doesn't pick up a dagger. If you notice her use it without the ability to pick up a nearby dagger, look to all-in her since both her escape and main sources of damage will be gone.

She will look to all-in you as soon as she completes a Cutlass or Hextech Gunblade. Until then, you're fairly safe to farm out against her since she won't have much kill pressure until she gets one of these items active slows.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

LeBlanc

Medium

Leblanc's damage primarily comes from her passive. As long as it does not proc, she will never kill you. The most common ways she uses it are by hitting you with W and then waiting to hit you with Q, or by using W forward into landing her chain. Watch out for these combos - once they've missed, retaliate because she'll be out of good options in terms of trading back onto you.

If LeBlanc uses Mimic, she won't be able to use it as an extra escape. This is a good time to fight - her options for damage output or retreating will be very limited.

Respect her kill pressure whenever she has Mimic up (54 second CD at rank 1). She can easily set up her Jungler, or even look to use Ethereal Chains on you twice for a solo kill. Whenever you see her use it, be ready to Flash the first chain or you will die.

Her waveclear is weak, she's often forced to use her gap closer, Distortion, to help her finish off a wave. Look to push her in as much as possible to reduce her offensive capabilities.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Lux

Easy

Lux's E provides good poke, but her real damage in the early game comes from auto-attacks that proc her Illumination passive. Do your best to dodge her E as it will proc comet( if she chose it), but even if it lands, the most important thing is to stay out of her auto-attack range. You can re-engage the Lux after 6 seconds and the passive wears off.

If you notice Lux miss either Q or E, step forward to punish her since her damage output is quite weak and she cannot effectively fight back.

Lux will look to hide in the Fog of War in an attempt to land Light Binding (Q) into her full combo. Whenever she disappears, don't fall for this trick and stay away from walls to give yourself more movement space.

Stand outside of the minion wave to force Lux to choose between poking you or pushing out the wave. This will leave you open to farm in a much safer manner.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Orianna

Easy

Look to harass Orianna when her ball is far away from her. It's hard for her to shield herself at the right time since she'll have to account for the delay it takes the ball to travel. The other added bonus is that Orianna gains flat armor and MR when her ball is on her, meaning your poke will also do more damage during this window

Whenever Orianna loses her Flash, her mobility is severely impacted. When this happens, time your all-in so that you go in as she throws out her Q when she attempts to poke or farm. This will allow your initial burst of damage to connect before her defensive stats from her E come in.

Orianna players will look to bully you with a Q and W combo. Stand in your minion wave to reduce the Q damage and try to dodge the full combo whenever it's up (9s CD, but watch CDR items), then look to CS while it is on CD.

When farming out against Orianna, the most dangerous thing you can do is be within auto range. If this happens, she will look to slow you with her W into hitting you with autos, followed by ulting you back into the slow for more autos. Due to Orianna's passive, Clockwork Windup, she will be able to kill you or drop you to very low HP from this combo even at max HP.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Ryze

Easy

Do not stand next to low health minions or else Ryze's E will spread to you and will result in receiving major poke damage. If his E lands, Ryze can easily use his Q to chain the damage.

Ryze will try to Recall at the level three siege minion wave to buy his Tear. Either out shove him, or deny his Recall by walking past the wave when he tries to use this timing. This really screws up his plans since he'll have no form of mana regeneration at that point and will have spent most of his mana to shove.

In duels, Ryze heavily relies on his Overload (Q) to deal damage. Save your movement spells to dodge it or hide in minions to decrease his 1v1 fighting potential.

Do not allow him to Spell Flux (E) into Rune Prison (W) because will mean either losing a huge chunk of HP or death if the enemy Jungler is around. The range for this combo is 615 - if you avoid it, you can mostly farm safely as long as you dodge his skillshot.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Vel'Koz

Hard

Whenever Vel'Koz uses his E, a knock-up, he his only self-peel option. Look to all-in him during its 16 second cooldown. Once you're on top of him, it becomes very difficult for him to use his ultimate.

Vel'Koz is a pure skillshot champion. Look to dodge his Q by standing in the minion wave and quickly stepping out from the wave to dodge his W, which he often uses to heavily push you in. It's a bit of a dance where you dodge in and out of the minion wave but if you get boots early on it makes the whole process a lot easier.

Getting hit by Vel'Koz's Tectonic Disruption (E) knock-up or his Q slow will result in getting destroyed by his ultimate Life Form Disintegration Ray (rank 1 CD 120 seconds). Grabbing early movement speed to help you avoid getting hit by these combos is strongly advised.

Vel'Koz's waveclear abilities are amazing and he will likely be able to out shove you in a farming situation. Look out for him using fog or brushes to launch poke from while you last hit under tower.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Vladimir

Medium

Vlad's W, Sanguine Pool, has an extremely long cooldown at 28 seconds at rank one and also costs 20% of his current health. Force him to use this as much as possible since it will not only hurt his health pool, but will also give you a chance to kill him is when it's on cooldown.

Most of Vladimir's sustain and early poke comes from Transfusion (Q). Avoid getting hit by his empowered Q's at all costs or he will sustain and poke you down, even at the cost of you missing some CS.

If you know Vlad has his ult (150 second CD rank 1) and Flash up, be careful when you see him at full Crimson Rush stacks while charging his Tides of Blood (E). He will be looking to Flash on top of you and do his full rotation of abilities which will likely 1 shot someone when he is ahead. To avoid this, walk very far back until you notice Crimson Rush and Tides of Blood are finished charging.

When farming out versus Vladimir, don't bother wasting your abilities on him. Instead, look to push him under tower. The early ranks of Tides of Blood (E) aren't good enough to clear a wave yet so he won't be able to contest your waveclear or at the very least, he'll be forced to spend a lot of HP and time doing so (which is time spent not harassing you).

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Xerath

Medium

Fight Xerath in close combat whenever possible. His stun (Shocking Orb) lasts longer the farther away you are from him, ranging from two seconds at max range to 0.5 at point blank. His ultimate (Rite of the Arcane) needs to be channeled while he stands still, making it very hard to use in melee range.

Xerath has moderately long cooldowns early with 14 seconds on his Eye of Destruction (W) and 13 seconds on Shocking Orb (E). If you see him miss or waste one of them, it's a good time to all-in him since he'll be defenseless and very squishy.

Xerath's passive, Mana Surge, gives him mana back on proc when he autos minions, but gives double when he hits a champ. Make sure to pay attention to when it's up so he doesn't get the bonus mana. He will quickly run out of mana if he attempts to continue to poke you.

When behind against a Xerath, try to buy tier 2 boots ASAP and come to lane with at least one potion. When trying to dodge his poke, make sure to go for last hits after he uses his spells since they have a long CD.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Yasuo

Hard

If you're reliant on projectiles, play around Yasuo's Windwall, which has a 26 second cooldown. As long as you're not using your ultimate, you can safely use your projectile to bait out Windwall without committing. When your abilities come back up, abuse this window timing. You can also keep the wave close to your turret which will inhibit Yasuo's ability to use his dash for mobility and allow you to trade more aggressively.

Yasuo is like a gnat when he's behind. He may be mobile and annoying but at the end of the day he can't actually fight back and escape. If he overextends and you want to fight, make sure to focus and step forward past the wave so to cut off his escape route.

Play cautiously and let Yasuo push the wave to just in front of your tower but not under it. Yasuo will have a hard time using minions for mobility and trading which will give you breathing room to farm and harass safely.

Keep Yasuo under tower or stay close to your tower when trying to just farm out, it will greatly limit his ability to use minions for mobility. Be wary of taking the option to push into his turret because it will often open you up to ganks.

Tips provided by Mobalytics. https://mobalytics.gg/

VS

Zed

Hard

The major cooldown you should play around is his ultimate, Death Mark, which has a two-minute timer at rank one. While it is down, you are free to farm and trade on him as much as you like since he'll have little kill pressure.

Zed's Living Shadow has a 22 second cooldown at rank one, but is reduced by two seconds every time Shadow Slash lands. When it's on cooldown he has no escape and cannot poke very well, so play aggressively on him.

Laning against Zed is about dodging his poke. The best way to not get poked down into kill range is to avoid getting hit by both Razor Shurikens during his W-E-Q combo as you do not want him to also get the Electrocute proc off. To do this, step diagonally as you see it come out, and then quickly change directions. Standing in the minion wave also helps as the Razor Shurikens do reduced damage the more units they pass through.

When trying to farm out against a Zed the key is to not get poked down into kill range. Play around his Living Shadow, which is a 22 second cd at rank 1, while also standing inside the minion wave to reduce his Razor Shuriken damage.

Early Game Back to Top

Early Game

red_line.png

The early game for 4.png Twisted Fate is relatively simple because he doesn't have the greatest of impact during the first few levels. In most cases, you will be unable to kill the enemy straight away in the lane. So it is important to get what farm you can and be proactive at level 6.

Up until you have your destiny.png Ultimate, you want to farm, deny and harass whenever you can. Thanks to your twistedfatepassive.png Passive you will get lots more gold compared to the enemy. You need to abuse your twistedfatepassive.png Passive by getting as much CS as possible to give yourself more gold. Depending on who the enemy is, you may be able to abuse them more often compared to others. If you're against an assassin such as 238.png Zed, 55.png Katarina or 91.png Talon- it may be quite risky to poke them.If you are against a champion who does not have much kill potential early, then laning should be simple.

You should try to poke down the enemies with your pickacard.png W and wildcards.png Q combo, following up with auto attacks and throughout the game. It is important to keep poking and harassing the enemy. If you poke too much, then you will need to use your pickacard.png W and the Blue_Card.png Blue Card to get some mana back. Beware, do not just use your W to farm, you will need it to poke as well.

Mid/Late Game Back to Top

Mid and Late Game

red_line.png

The Mid game is when 4.png Twisted Fate shines. Thanks to your destiny.png Ultimate, you can have an incredibly high impact around the map. It is important to get the most out of your destiny.png Ultimate and you should be prepared to use it whenever it comes up. It can be quite hard to be proactive with your destiny.png Ultimate when you play more 4.png Twisted Fate, you will then learn how and when you can use it.

Thanks to 4.png Twisted Fate's siege potential, you can push lanes and go for towers/objectives with ease. Try your hardest to help other lanes and your team out by using your destiny.png Ultimate. Before destiny.png Ulting to them, make sure to push the wave to save your tower.

Mid-Game-Gameplay:

For a normal Mid laner, you would have two options in the Mid game. You can either split push or team fight. Thanks to your Kit, you can do both! 4.png Twisted Fate is really good at pushing waves and joining his team. Your main job is to quickly push waves with your Red_Card.png Red Card from your pickacard.png W and your wildcards.png Q. You then should watch your team and be prepared to join them with your destiny.png Ultimate.

If your team cannot fight 4v5 then you may have to use your destiny.png Ultimate early. Make sure to keep an eye on your team when you are pushing aside wave.

The late game is basically the same as the Mid game and consists of the exact same actions as you would be doing during the Mid game.

Team Fighting Back to Top

Team fighting

red_line.png

4.png Twisted Fate is a very simple team fighting the champion. You want to continuously poke throughout the team fight, maximizing your wildcards.png Q damage by hitting as many champions with it as possible. You need to poke before the team fight starts as well. This is an incredibly important thing to remember because you can often turn team fights around just by poking. If you poke successfully, the enemy may be foreced to recall making the fight 5 versus 4.

Thanks to your pickacard.png Pick a card you can lock down and slow enemies with your point and click CC. You should use your Gold_Card.png Gold Card on whoever is the closest to your team, this is usually the frontline. You want to stun them so they stay off your team. However, if the enemy has multiple frontline champions or assassins, then you can use either your Gold_Card.png Gold Card to stun one of them or use your Red_Card.png Red Card as an AOE slow.

red_line.png

If you're splitpushing and not with your team. then you need to be prepared to cast your destiny.png Ultimate and group with your team. If you choose to destiny.png Ultimate and blink to them, you need to blink into a safe position and not a position where you can be burst down and killed. You want to either destiny.png Ult to the side and flank, or destiny.png Ult just behind your team.

Team fighting is simple for 4.png Twisted Fate. Try your hardest to poke with your wildcards.png Q, dodge the enemies abilities and poke, and also try to stay alive.

Combos Back to Top

Combos

red_line.png

4.png Twisted Fate doesn't have many combos. However,  choosing the right card can be slightly difficult. For each combo, I will include which card you should take.

red_line.png

  • pickacard.png W (Red_Card.png Red Card) + wildcards.png Q | Standard lane pushing technique. I use this combo mostly to push waves. Position to the side of the minion wave to quickly push it.
  • wildcards.png Q + pickacard.png W (Red_Card.png Red Card) | Standard lane pushing technique. I use this combo mostly to push waves. Position to the side of the minion wave to quickly push it.
  • pickacard.png W (Gold_Card.png Gold Card) + wildcards.png Q | Standard Gank Combo. If you are receiving a gank, you should use this combo.
  • destiny.png R + pickacard.png W (Gold_Card.png Gold Card) + destiny.png R + wildcards.png Q | Example Ultimate Combo. You pick your card and then reactive your destiny.png Ultimate. You will use this if you can target one champion.
  • destiny.png R + pickacard.png W (Red_Card.png Red Card) + destiny.png R + wildcards.png Q | Example Ultimate Combo. You pick your card and then reactive your destiny.png Ultimate. You will use this if you are usually ganking Bot lane. You can use this Red_Card.png Red Card or Gold_Card.png Gold Card.

Whilst your Blue_Card.png Blue Card does the most damage, it doesn't give you any form of CC. So, don't pull a Gross Gore and pick a Blue_Card.png Blue Card.

Pros and Cons Back to Top

Pros and Cons

red_line.png

Whilst Twisted Fate is one of the best Mid laners around. He does have some pros and cons. If you try your hardest and not mess up, then a lot of these cons will not be shown when you play him.

red_line.png

Pros of Twisted Fate

  • Great wave clear thanks to his pickacard.png W and wildcards.png Q. You can use your Red_Card.png Red Card on an enemy minion, then it's AOE damage will deal more to other enemies.
  • Good poke throughout the game thanks to his pickacard.png W and his wildcards.png Q. You can use either your Red_Card.png Red Card, Blue_Card.png Blue Card or Gold_Card.png Gold Card followed by a wildcards.png Q to deal extra damage in trades.
  • Is granted a lot of gold with his twistedfatepassive.png Passive. Make sure to get as much CS as possible!
  • Has great map pressure and ability to roam with his destiny.png Ultimate.
  • Easy to pick up. Because he doesn't have many combos and is not mechanically difficult, he can be quite easy to learn. However, he is hard to master.
  • Can quickly take towers thanks to his Blue_Card.png Blue Card from his pickacard.png W. This is because your Blue_Card.png Blue card deals the most damage.
  • Has mana regeneration thanks to his Blue_Card.png Blue Card. You can use this on a tower, minion, monster or champion!

Cons of Twisted Fate

  • Incredibly hard to master. Especially his destiny.png Ultimate. 4.png TF is not a very easy champion to master because of his  destiny.pngUltimate.
  • Squishy. Especially when you're against an assassin champion or somebody with high kill potential.
  • Is not very good against burst champions or assassins. This is because they out damage him and can out trade him.
  • His destiny.png Ultimate can be quite hard to use to its full potential. This is the mechanic that 4.png TF players struggle to get the most out of.
  • Can pick the wrong card quite easily and mess up your ability to kill them in trades. Don't do a Grossie gore.
  • Requires insane map awareness and map pressure to perform well. Like stated previously, his destiny.png Ultimate is really hard to master.

Tips and Tricks Back to Top

Tips and Tricks

red_line.png

  • Whenever you have your destiny.png Ultimate up, you should look for opportunities to roam. It is important to get the most out of your destiny.png Ultimate as it gives you global map pressure, so it’s important to use it whenever you can.
  • If you’re low on mana, you can use your Blue_Card.png Blue card from your pickacard.png W. This will grant you more mana throughout the game and laning phase.
  • If you are receiving a gank by an ally, you can use your Gold_Card.png Gold card from your pickacard.png W to stun the enemy.
  • If you are receiving a gank from an enemy champion, you can use your Gold_Card.png Gold card to stun them or use your Red_Card.png Red card to slow them. You will usually stun the nearest champion or the champion who has a gap closure.
  • Make sure to get as much farm as possible. This is important as you can gain bonus gold thanks to  your twistedfatepassive.png kit.
  • If you need to back, use your wildcards.png Q and pickacard.png W to push the waves quickly and then recall.
  • When using your destiny.png Ultimate, make sure to push the wave beforehand. This will result in your tower not taking free damage.
  • You can use your destiny.png Ultimate halfway through a wall to extend the range slightly. This acts the same as some 3340.png wards and 4.png Flash’s.
  • You can cancel your destiny.png Ultimate with 3157.png Zhonyas.
  • You can use your destiny.png Ultimate to see invisible enemies. This is really good against 35.png Shaco, 28.png Evelynn and 17.png Teemo.
  • You want to use your destiny.png Ultimate to help other lanes out and go for kills. The best time to use it is when an enemy is either on low health or miss-positioned.
  • Do not hesitate when using 4.png Twisted Fates destiny.png Ultimate. If you hesitate, you may lose the opportunity to engage.
  • When using your destiny.png Ultimate, make sure to position near their escape route. This will make the gank (roam) have a higher success rate.

Ultimate Use Back to Top

Using Twisted Fate's Ultimate

red_line.png

We talked a lot about 4.png Twisted Fate’s destiny.png Ultimate throughout this guide and for good measure. It can make 4.png Twisted Fate incredibly strong or make him a useless pick. If you master this ability, then you will be able to have a high impact on the game and be able to seamlessly solo carry the game thanks to your ability to be everywhere.

red_line.png

Before using your Ultimate

Before using 4.png Twisted Fate’s destiny.png Ultimate, you need to make some small but very important practical observations. Making all these observations will allow you to make your destiny.png Ultimate use more practical and safe.

  • Push the wave. It is important to push the wave before using your destiny.png Ultimate. This is because the enemy will not be able to push down and take your tower so quickly.
  • Map Awareness. Keep an eye on the map at all times, this will allow you to see and find possible destiny.png Ulty opportunities.

red_line.png

Getting the Most out of your Ultimate

Getting the most out of your destiny.png Ultimate is incredibly important. You should only use your destiny.png Ultimate to get kills, help out your allies or to gank your team. You should not use your destiny.png Ultimate to get back to lane. In some cases, you will have to use your destiny.png Ultimate to get away from ganks or collapses.

  • You need to check the map on your ally’s location. If they are pushing the enemy under the tower, then it can be quite difficult helping them unless you’re able to survive the dive.
  • If your ally can set up the gank with hard crowd control, then you will be able to help them. As 4.png Twisted Fate has his Gold_Card.png Gold Card, having multiple CC will allow you to guarantee a kill.
  • Make sure that you ask your allies if the enemy has any Summoner Spells. If you know they don’t have a specific Spell or Ability then ganking is easy.
  • If an enemy is on low health, you should try to use your destiny.png Ultimate to get yourself a free kill. This will not only snowball you but also snowball your ally and put the enemy behind.

red_line.png

Positioning

Whenever you are using your destiny.png Ultimate, you want to position in an effective place. If you position poorly, then the usage of your destiny.png Ultimate may be wasted. You have two options on positioning. In most cases, you will position closely behind the enemy. This will allow you to easily use your Gold_Card.png Gold card and stun them. This is the most effective way of positioning from an destiny.png Ultimate. The other option is to land at one of the escape routes of the enemy. For example, if they start to walk away from the tower, then you can blink to the location that is near them blocking them from taking a specific route.

Positioning takes time to perfect, so do not be discouraged if you are not ganking efficiently.
