Summoner Spells Back to Top

4.png11.png is my go to every game. Flash on enemies with your bear stance as this is your engage tool. Also Udyr can't go through walls so this is also a great escape tool.

6.png11.png  (TAKE GHOST ON TANK UDYR 11/25/16) I rarely use Ghost. I only use it if the other team is highly lacking in Crowd Control. This is a great tool to use for splitting lanes since you can outrun anybody and it has a very low cooldown. Its a good spell to stick to targets as Udyr.

TANK UDYR Skill Order (11/25/16)

Tank Udyr 232323.PNG

Since Courage of the Colossus provides a shield for you when your Bear Stance and stun somebody, you don't need to max Turtle Stance anymore. So movement speed is much more important now.

Items Back to Top

Starting Items

Hunters Talisman because Udyr is mana hungry early. Consumable potions because it is really gold efficient and Udyr doesn't have problems sustaining in the jungle.
(ONLY FOR AP UDYR) After the jungle, on your first back, pick up a Dark Seal. It early ap, more sustain off potions and stacks off kills and assists. If you are snowballing then upgrade to Mejeas SoulStealer as it provides more AP and free Movement Speed at 15 stacks.

Core Items

(AP Udyr Build/MAX R>W>E>Q) If you are snowballing, you can get Abyssal Sceptre instead of Banshee's Veil. If you are really behind, switch out trinity force for Iceborn Gauntlet.
(AD Udyr Build/ MAX Q>W>E>R) If you are behind, then switch out trinity force for Iceborn Gauntlet
    Tank Udyr Build (11/25/16)
My signature build Statik shiv and Runic Echoes both combine do a ton of burst damage with Phoenix Stance

Situational Items

Taking the first 3 boots is situational. If they have a lot of kite/slows then get Swifties. If they have a lot of auto attacking champs then get Ninja Tabis. If they have a lot of CC/Stuns then get Merc Treads. Finally, I like to get Lucidity boots if I'm running ghost on Udyr.
    (Tank Udyr Only) Situational Items

The reasons I love Udyr is that he can go AD, AP, or a mix of both.

Matchups Back to Top

  • Amumu
    Easy
  • Lee Sin
    Hard
  • Xin Zhao
    Medium

VS

Amumu

Easy

Amumu is incredily easy to 1v1. You have more consistent damage while he only has burst. He has no mobility, and is easy to chase down. Easy to invade.

As for teamfights, there's not much you can do if he gets a ult down, but your main job is to make sure he doesn't get near your backline.

VS

Lee Sin

Hard

This matchup can be very easy or hard depending on the Lee Sin player.

You outscale Lee Sin very hard but the problem is Lee Sin is one of top early junglers and can snowball lanes if he succeeds. The longer the game is, the easier it gets for Udyr.

It is also to keep in note that some Lee Sin players have different playstyles. Some like to gank and others like to invade you.

VS

Xin Zhao

Medium

You will never be able to 1v1 a Xin Zhao. You will only be able to 1v1 him if you are 2-3 lvls ahead and have more items. Otherwise, do you not cross his path unless you have teammates. He has too much dps and sustain to 1v1.

His ganks are similar to yours but he has more utility. Bad Xin Zhaos are nothing to worry about. Good Xin Zhaos will get their team snowballing.

Xin Zhao is easy to take down in fights, stun lock him and your team will do the rest.

Runes:

AD RUNES222.PNG

Skill Order:

Skill%20Order.PNG

I get 2 points in Turtle stance early for sustain. Tiger Stance has a slower clear then Phoenix Stance due to not having AoE and what that means is you will take more hits from the jungle camps.

Build:

Udyr Build.PNG

I broke down the build and the items you would build on Udyr only. You can pick either Black Cleaver or Tri Force as your 3rd item (Never take both). Everything else is situational. I always take red smite on Udyr since it does more damage then blue smite and it synergies really well with the DoT on your Tiger Stance.

My Preferred build is: (This is more of a balanced build if they have a mix of AD and bursty AP)

 1412.png3111.png3078.png3156.png3190.png3143.png

Tanky Armor Shredding build: (If your team needs a tanky frontline and you're facing against 2-3 beefy tanks)

1412.png3111.png3071.png3025.png3190.png3143.png

Split Pushing Dueling build: (If you are fed and you need to split push to win the game)

Why Play Udyr? Back to Top

Udyr is the most versatile champion in the game. You can build Udyr anyway you want. You can go On-Hit, AP, AD, and Tank. He has great dueling with his Tiger Stance as it has very high AD scaling and applies a DoT that catches a lot of people off guard. He has great sustain with his Turtle Stance that is a shield with built-in lifesteal. His Bear Stance makes him very mobile around the map, lets him be able to chase/run away, has a stun to catch targets or to disrupt them, and this his how Udyr is able to gank. His Phoenix Stance is also a damage spell that scales off of AP and it allows Udyr to clear jungle camps very fast as it provides a lot of AoE.

Udyr is very versatile as he can do anything but that doesn't mean he can do everything as well as other champions can. The strong points of Udyr is his fast jungle clear and his mobility.

Strengths:

  • Fast Clear
  • Very Mobile
  • Scales Hard
  • Great Splitpusher
  • Great Duelist
  • Flexible Builds
  • Annoying to Deal With
  • Great Peeler/Disrupter in Teamfights
  • Fits Multiple Playstyles

Weaknesses:

  • Not a Early Game Jungler
  • Doesn't Have a Ult
  • Useless When Team or Udyr is Behind
  • Easy to Invade
  • Able to be Kited
  • Cant Duel Until Udyr Has Items

Udyr's Stereotype Back to Top

A common problem and sterotype I always see when myself or others play Udyr is that they associate everything we do with Trick2G. I get hated on if I don't gank or if I farm. Even though Trick2G is famous for being a Udyr main and his playstyle is to split constantly and never group. Just because Trick2G is a well known Udyr doesn't mean you should play like or build like him. What he does works for him, so find what works for you.

Splitpush or Teamfight? Back to Top

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You should only consider Splitpushing under these circumstances:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- You have Trinity Force or waveclearing items
- You are really fed and can 1v1, 1v2 or 1v3 the enemy team
- Your team doesn't have good frontline
- Your team doesn't have good teamfights
- Smurfing in lower elos
- If you're good at dodging skillshots

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------When you are Teamfighting:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Iceborn Gauntlet 3025.png  preferred. Trinity force 3078.pngonly if you're snowballing.
- When you use Bear Stance, try to auto as much people as possible to stun them and make the most use of the spell
- You need to decide when playing Udyr to be a peeler for you're team or a backline disruptor.
- Flash onto key targets with bear stance to catch them out.
- Group with your team if your team needs you or if you're really fed and your team can teamfight.
- When running at the enemy always use Turtle stance before entering into the fight.

Clearing Tips Back to Top

- In this video, you can see that I keep 3 stacks on my passive throughout the jungle clear. This makes sure that Udyr has the most efficient clear because at 3 stacks you get more movement speed and 30% attack speed. This is why you always start blue buff.

- (Depending on what you max first) Press R or Q at lvl 1. This allows you to get free damage on blue/red buff monster as when you first auto, you can activate the ability again.

- You always want to take out the smaller creeps first on raptors and krugs as AD Udyr

- Phoenix Stance is good for farming the jungle cause of its AoE. Tiger stance is good single target damage, slow early but clears the jungle fast later on in the game

- When you use phoenix stance, auto and walk away from the camp and try to align the jungle creep to line up and use your Phoenix stance and just stand there so you hit all the targets at once with your Phoenix and this makes clear faster and more efficient.
