Summoner Spells Back to Top

12.png
Teleport is one of the best summoner spells to bring for Urgot, at least for top lane. Not only is it a fast way to get back to lane, but it can also be used to roam to other lanes.179.png
4.png
Flash is pretty standard on most champions, and with Urgot you can pull off a couple of neat combos with your E.179.png
14.png
If you prefer to play aggressive, or just want to deal as much damage as possible, ignite is definitely an option for you instead of teleport.
179.png
6.png
Ghost is similar to ignite, in that you'd run it over teleport (or flash) you can run this if you are going to be more aggressive.

New Runes Back to Top

Precision

Press%20the%20Attack.png?width=64
Press the Attack is going to be your keystone for your damage page, for a good reason too. When you use urgotw.png  it will almost instantly stack it, giving you even more damage. Plus, you will win most trades because of the damage boost from this, and the shield from urgotw.png.
Triumph.png?width=32
Triumph in general is pretty strong, giving you bonus gold on kill, as well as decent sustain in lane if you keep getting kills. Also, getting 12% of your missing HP whenever you get a kill or assist is nice overall, especially in teamfights.
Legend%20Tenacity.png?width=32
When it comes to the Legend line, Tenacity is honestly your best option. You don't really have much need for attack speed, as urgotw.png sets your attack speed at 3.0 for the duration of the ability, and you just don't benefit as much from life steal as you would tenacity.
Coup%20De%20Grace.png?width=32
Coup de Grace is another pretty useful rune for Urgot, as it is for most champions. Giving you more damage as the battle goes on is nice, especially if you are winning.

Resolve

Aftershock.png?width=64
If you are planning on going for a mostly tank build, Aftershock is pretty nice to have as your keystone. Free tank stats whenever you engage with urgote.png  and also any time you drag somebody in with your ult. This lets you survive even longer in teamfights as well as have a higher chance of getting your ult off around multiple people.
Perseverance.png?width=32
Unflinching is another nice rune to have for Urgot, as the slow resistance helps this otherwise mostly immobile champion. Especially with Summoner%20Specialist.png?width=32  although it may seem counterintuitive because of the lowered summoner spell cooldowns, this rune is nice for a lot of bruisers.
Conditioning.png?width=32
Conditioning is good for any tank, giving a percentage increase to your resistances late game. 5% may not seem like a lot, but once you start getting items, it helps quite a bit.
Second%20Wind.png?width=32
Second Wind is another pretty standard rune for tanks, giving you effective permanent bonus health regen in any fight as long as you are taking damage. This gets stronger as the game, and individual fight goes on too, as it scales with 4% of your missing HP.
Overgrowth.png?width=32
Overgrowth is a pretty simple rune. The more things die near you, the more % HP you get. This makes you tankier overall, and also increases the shield power on urgotw.png, as it scales with 30% of your bonus HP.
Bone%20Plating.png?width=32
Bone plating helps out a lot in trades, as when they try engaging, their first 3 attacks deal reduced damage to you. This will allow you to live longer in early trades, and fights overall.

Inspiration

Glacial%20Augment.png?width=64
Glacial Augment, otherwise known as free 3022.png  means that you don't really have to buy one, later on in the game, allowing you to use that item slot for something else like a 3026.png.
Summoner%20Specialist.png?width=64
Unsealed Spellbook is another good keystone for Urgot. It can synergize well with Perseverance.png?width=32  giving you more uses of your summoner spells, allowing more slow resist and tenacity, both of which are very nice stats to have.
Perfect%20Timing.png?width=32
Perfect timing is nice, half because stopwatch is pretty strong at the moment, and it builds into 3026.png  It also shaves around a minute off of 3026.png's cooldown if you choose to build it.
Futures%20Market.png?width=32
Future's Market helps out a lot too, allowing you to finish your items before your enemy laner. Getting an item lead on Urgot can be massive in some cases; especially if its your 3071.png.
Cosmic%20Insight.png?width=32
Cosmic Insight is literally free 5% cooldown reduction for your abilities, items, and summoner spells, as well as a 5% increase to your cooldown reduction cap. Overall, the extra cooldown reduction is nice, but when stacked with Spellbook, you now have 20% reduced cooldowns on your summoner spells instead of only 15%.
Approach%20Velocity.png?width=32
Approach Velocity is a pretty niche pick, although it works well with Urgot. urgotq.png slows, you will likely be going for 3022.png  as well as Glacial%20Augment.png?width=32 with this page. It also helps out with urgotr.png  If the target is not below the 1/4 HP threshold to be executed, you will be faster while moving towards them, making it easier to get close and deal that last bit of damage you need to execute them.

Sorcery

The%20Ultimate%20Hat.png?width=32
Ultimate Hat is a pretty self-explanatory rune to bring. Urgot's ult is a major part of his kit; so you'll want to have it up as much as possible.
Celerity.png?width=32
Celerity is nice to have, as it synergizes with the rest of the page you run it with, as you have multiple slows on top of Approach%20Velocity.png?width=32 . This will give you a little bit more AD in most fights because of the slows from Glacial%20Augment.png?width=323022.png, and urgotq.png with Approach%20Velocity.png?width=32.

S H O T G U N K N E E S

To play Urgot, you need to understand how to effectively use your shotgun knees. While they do help you when farming, try to only use one or two when doing so. If you at any point find yourself with all of your knees on cooldown, try backing off for a while until they come back up.

Screen Shot 2018-02-13 at 9.38.32 PM.png
Use your Q to poke in lane, or when going in to slow your enemy, giving you a higher chance of hitting urgote.png  Alternatively, you could also use it behind you after hitting urgote.png; but the damage is the same regardless.

Screen Shot 2018-02-13 at 9.38.40 PM.png

Your W is your main ability, and what you will be maxing first. Between the shield it gives, and the set 3.0 attack speed, there's really no way to go wrong with this ability. (Unless you are fighting in a minion wave without hitting the enemy with another ability first) Always remember to hit another ability before using urgotw.png  This will guarantee you are attacking the enemy champion, and not their minions. Also, you can use this ability to push towers. While activated, you can also see which of your knees are ready.

Screen Shot 2018-02-13 at 9.38.48 PM.png
Your E, while most people just see as a simple dash, is actually quite strong on its own. If timed right, you can dodge displacements from abilities like rocketgrab.png or threshe.png, similar to how you can with galioe.png  I personally like to take this ability at level 2, because nobody expect it. Most top laners don't want to fight before level 3. There are some exceptions of course, but not all have a strong level 2 like Urgot does.

Screen Shot 2018-02-13 at 9.39.11 PM.png

Your ult as Urgot is the real money maker. If you can hit it, and get the enemy below the 1/4 HP threshold, there is pretty much nothing they can do except hope you die. urgotr.png can however be cleansed by things like 3140.png3139.png, or gangplankw.png (but strangely not 1.png itself); the death can be prevented by revives such as 3026.pngchronoshift.png, or aatroxpassive.png; and the chains themselves can be blocked by things like sivire.pngfioraw.png, or a well timed 3157.png

    Healing Items

Core

3071.png

Cleaver is your core. All of your damage is physical, and with urgotw.png, you stack it almost instantly.
3022.png
Mallet helps you chase enemies, especially with the movement speed passive from 3071.png and (if you have it) Approach%20Velocity.png?width=32
127.jpg

Armor Items

Enemy ADC fed? Find all you'll need right here

3026.png
Guardian Angel is a pretty self-explanatory item. Even without its revive passive, the armor and AD it gives are both very nice,
3075.png
You'll want to go thornmail into most AD matchups, for example if you are against somebody like 114.png or 266.png. Sometimes you can even go 3076.png on an early back, and you'll pretty much win every trade off of its passives.
3110.png
Frozen heart is, again, good into most AD matchups. Not only does it give a massive amount of armor, but it also gives you mana and lowers attack speed of nearby enemies. Especially when combined with 3075.png, you become a beast when fighting AD champions.
3143.png
Randuins is a good alternative to 3075.png. Both give you massive amounts of armor and have passives that make you stronger against AD champions. Reduced damage from critical strikes is very useful against a fed ADC or 157.png
3742.png
Dead Man's Plate is a strong item for both its stats and passive; allowing you to roam quite easily.
3800.png
Righteous Glory is a good item to have, giving armor and mana similar to 3110.png, but getting an active that grants movement speed instead of lowering nearby enemies' attack speed.
127.jpg

Magic Resist Items

Mages annoying you? Grab some of these and you'll be good to go

3194.png
Adaptive Helm is similar to 3075.png, but against mages. The more magic damage you take from the same person, the less they start dealing to you. This is a good pick against AP or magic damage top liners like 17.png516.png, or 3.png.
3156.png
Maw of Malmortius is another strong magic resist item, but it also gives you more damage and healing. It also helps against more burst-oriented AP champs like 84.png or 142.png.
3139.png
Mecurial Scimitar is useful against teams with high amounts of CC, and similar to 3156.png, but instead of a shield, you can now cleanse any CC, and get a movement speed buff.
3065.png
Spirit Visage is a good item to have if you are going to be building any form of healing, or you have Second%20Wind.png?width=32, as it amplifies any healing you have.
127.jpg

Full Damage Items

Going full damage? Try grabbing some of these items and show the enemy how it's done

3031.png
If you want to deal lots of damage, you can never go wrong with an Infinity Edge. Critting on top of your passive hurts... a lot.
3033.png
Enemy team have a lot of tanks and healing? Mortal Reminder is all you need to shut them down.
3142.png
Similar to 3742.png, Youmuu's Ghostblade helps you roam quite a bit. Only difference being that 3142.png gives you damage stats instead of defenses.
3147.png
Does Duskblade really need an explanation? Lethality + shotgun knees = gg.
3814.png
Edge of Night allows you to take a free hit, and deal more damage because it's even more lethality. Plus you are a little bit tankier too.
127.jpg

Healing Items

Who doesn't love sustain?

3072.png
Bloodthirster is the life steal item. If you want lifesteal, this is what you're going to want to get.
3083.png
Just back away from the fight and you'll be full HP in no time.
3812.png
More sustain except this time, everything heals you.

VS

Darius

Medium

timeWhile a tough matchup for most, you will have the advantage here because you are ranged. Remember that you can avoid the pull from dariusaxegrabcone.png if you time urgote.png just right.

VS

Jax

Medium

Similar to 98.png and 17.png, bait out jaxcounterstrike.pngbefore you go in, and you should win any trade. Also, 24.png relies entirely on autoattacks to deal damage, so an early 3076.png will help a lot against him.

VS

Shen

Medium

Similar to 24.png and 17.png, just bait out shenw.png before going in, and you should win trades.

VS

Teemo

Medium

Just like when playing against 98.png or 24.png, bait out blindingdart.png before going in and you'll be fine. Also consider buying an early 3211.png to help deal with his constant poison damage from toxicshot.png and teemorcast.png. Later upgrade this into 3194.png for maximum effectiveness.

VS

Tryndamere

Easy

If played right, one of your easiest matchups. Because 23.png pretty much entirely reliant on his autoattacks, 3076.png is a massive help against him. Also, keep in mind that undyingrage.png can urgotr.png.

VS

Yorick

Hard

Probably one of your more difficult matchups, mostly because of yorickw.png. If you are locked on, you are unable to target his yorickw.png and yorickpassive.png, meaning you will be taking damage for free, or will have to turn off urgotw.png, severely lowering your DPS. However, if you are not locked on, you will target yorickw.png and yorickpassive.png instead of 83.png. Additionally, urgote.png cannot go through yorickw.png.

Tips & Tricks Back to Top

  • You can use urgotw.png during the animation of urgote.png; and it will cast immediately after you finish dashing.
  • Pay attention to what legs are up at all times. Each leg is on a decently long cooldown until around level 11. They are essential for trading with your opponent, so try to only use one or two while farming. The enemy, if they are paying attention, can go in on you when they know your legs are down.
  • Don't forget, you can reactivate urgotr.png early if the target falls below the 1/4 HP threshold before the 4 second duration is over.
  • You are tanky, but you are not a tank. You can't be running into the middle of the enemy team like you are 54.png or 57.png. Instead, you have to know when to go in, and when to stay back.
  • urgotw.png is your main damage spell, but also your main survival tool. Always keep track of when it is up.
  • Be sure you know who you are hitting/aiming for with urgotr.png. If used right, it instantly turns any 5v5 into a 4v5.
